    The best and most comprehensive video I've seen so far on this topic. For people with bi/tri turbo setups, another infamous failure point is the vaccuum system but otherwise doing all the things you showed will solve the problem for 99% of people.

      Hi Carl, could a drivetrain fault on a tri turbo set up be completly unrelated to egr and caused by vaccum system alone? I had the egr cooler replaced last week (recall) and ever since picking it up from bmw the drivetrain fault pops up on cold engine, power loss when accelerating. Im adament BMW have caused this whilst they worked under the bonnet 😒 They are trying to blame it solely on the turbo- and im not buying it

    • @thisissparta9
      @thisissparta9 Рік тому +1

      @@hallefranklin2646 Can definitely be caused by vaccum system. The pressure converters and electric changeover valves frequently go bad and they operate the turbine control flap, multiple actuating air flaps and wastegate. Could also be an issue with the vaccum lines themselves, possibly a cracked, disconnected or pinched line. I'd recommend using smoke to test the vaccum lines and a vaccum pump to see if the pressure converters and changeover valves hold vaccum properly.

    Great job. I work at a BMW dealership I change 1 or 2 EGR valves and a cooler every day most of the BMW series even new ones have recall. Because they have issues with the EGR valve and cooler leaking. The old ones are Korean the new parts are from Germany they make new parts and BMW pays all expenses.

    You may find this interesting - I had the same faults on my 2015 BMW 218d (F45) with 115000 miles. I had the EGR valve changed, but it made no difference. However, there is a recall from BMW on the EGR cooler, which they say may cause these symptoms. I contacted their Customer Services and they sent a breakdown truck to my house and took my car to the local BMW dealership. The EGR cooler was replaced AND the intake manifold was also replaced as part of the recall as the original faulty EGR cooler had also caused damage to the intake manifold. My car now runs great with no faults, and the total cost? NOTHING - all done free as part of the recall!

I heard a click and the charge air hose is locked and seal. No more leaks and the turbocharger works at last. The leaks was caused by the car worker do not use silicon when he connect the charge air hose to the turbocharger and the hose did not slide into lock position. I have bought two new charge air hoses and my plan is to replace both when I do a service on my intercooler. Thank you very much for all your fantastic videos. I have learned a lot. :-))

    i'm curious, did it it fix your problem ?
    I've done most of what you showed here (but still have to redo the swirl flap actuator) other things to consider that *will* break : all the power pulleys + crank, accesoiries belt, waterpump, thermostat.
    These diesel bmw's are superb machines, but all that diesel gunk kills them in time if not properly maintained as you showed.
    If you have *any* error in the hole thing (glow plug, relay, any sensor really or motor error) , regen won't start ! I've learned the hard way this is *crucial* on these cars....turbo, dpf, egr, manifold, it will kill it all if dpf regen is not working.
    This video is gold by the way, really impressive good work, well done.

    Hi, I had a lot drive train error messages after a turbocharge crash and even after a new turbocharger is installed I got drive train from 1200- 3000 rpm. I found the map sensor was glogged with oil and carbon. I clean the map sensor with brake cleaner. Use a cloth and put som egr/turbo cleaner and clean the hull where tthe map sensor is installed 5 times. After this clean operation, the drive train error disappeared. The map sensor is supposed to give up to 4 bar pressure for an engine to work properly. Now at last my new car workshop has managed to replace and install a new turbocharger. He use only one day and the turbocharger is working perfectly. I have to replace the booster pressure solenoid and the charger pressure regulator ventile. There are two booster pressure solenoids and two charger pressure regulator ventiles. I am going to replace all four of them. Even the map sensor will be replaced. Excellent work. wish i lived close by to bring my car up to get it sorted
    I have a 535d with an EGR and DPF delete. i noticed that it has a slight uneven shake at idle, I don't know why
    the car has good full economy though (7.8 l/100km in the city) and doesn't feel lethargic or low on power
    but that slight unevenness is kinda anoying

    • @TheKeenMechanic
      @TheKeenMechanic  Рік тому +2

      Thanks for your message buddy. 535d is a great car. This is very impressive economy you are getting by the way. Not sure why it will run uneven at idle. I assume your intake is clean due to your EGR delete. It would be worth checking with the person who mapped out the egr to get his opinion. I am currently in the process of taking the engine and gearbox out for timing chains major service and rebuild. There will be many videos coming🤝

    EGR systems should be binned as all this crap in the inlet side wouldn't be there otherwise.
    What's more planet friendly, a few grams of emissions, or having to buy a new engine / car?

    • @TheKeenMechanic
      @TheKeenMechanic  Рік тому

      Totally agree. The whole industry and emissions regulations is a total scam. It is costing the average joe an arm and a leg to keep their cars on the road but then a war starts and it is ok for one of the wealthiest countries to start using coal🤯

      Hi
      Thanks for reaching out. My schedule is full months ahead so I am afraid I can't help you out buddy. I go into detail in my video which should allow anyone who has basic knowledge and tools to be able to do it. Bear in mind that a lot of cars are remapped and modified nowadays and this makes it more difficult for mechanics to get to root cause. Try some local BMW specialist and I am sure you will get sorted as these are common problems with the N47 N57 engines🤝
