I love using Vassals for my games in general. Did the same for EU4, did the same for Stellaris. It’s good that there’s a lot more that we can do with vassals now
Honestly, Overlord is best fun I`ve had in Stellaris in a while now. Becomming galaxy emperror not just de-jure with galactic community, but also de-facto with actuall vasals is now finally fun.
One thing that absolutly does not make sense to me is the fact that vassals can say no. Im their overlord, if I say you give me more of your levies then you give me more levies. I was expecting more of a currency system where you gain vassal loyalty from deals that favor them and lose it if you make bad deals. It doesnt make sense that if my vassal refuses my order I cant go and kick their teeth in. Why would a vassal listen to me at all if they can just say no and I slink away with my tail between my legs? Doesnt make any sense. Rest of the dlc is great and I would by it for the hyper relays alone
I just buy all dlcs since I will play from time to time but appreciate what the developers are doing. This is one of the only games I buy all dlc that come out for most others I won’t unless it has a damn good dev team behind it. Hopefully they fix those ui issues as mentioned in the video in another update
I agree with the idea of hyper relays coming sooner in the tree. I always feel by the time I get my network up, I already got jump drives as a threat and it kind of ruins the vibe of protecting those routes.
Hi! I love this game, the phase is that I have it after a site that always adapts it to every update like the original one and it works multiplayer, I will buy it in the future, it's really worth it! I'm glad I got it for free after a site that updates it and I was surprised that it works multiplayer :)
They kinda fucked up human potraits, there is now fewer options than before which all look similar, all names of any leader seem to have disappeared, gender titles are broken in a way where you cannot have both male and female title be different. I think I am gonna be waiting for these things to be fixed.
This is the first one in a while that I'm tempted to get on day 1, I was considering picking up Nemesis whilst it's 33% off but to be honest this one looks like it has far more interesting features that will influence more games.
I think for the next major update the custodian team should focus on adding more content to the base game and DLCs for instance more than one shipset for each type of species.
My first game with Overlord, my fleet and star base refused to attack. My fleet just circle like ground troops in an engagement. Also the damn game started two other civilisations with in four hyper lanes of me.
Haven't been following overlord much and wanted to wait till it's released and see what people think. My take is that the additions are pretty solid, but we might need a patch or two to smooth out some wrinkles. I'm still excited though and plan on getting it now!
Overlord is one of the few must haves I think. It adds and fleshes out do much! Should it be gotten right now? Naw. Feel free to wait for a sale. Unlike Utopiathat both adds more, fleshes out and refiles the game, Overlord only adds new and fleshes out. Propably the second best expansion to grab sp far though.
Maaaan I wish my pc didnt break on me 😭😭😭 I'm playing on xbox and this dlc doesnt come out for a little while now. Getting back into this game after a year break has been refreshing and has me hooked. Only if I was pc tho uugh. Cant wait to get my hands on this dlc
Has anyone had a glitch where your subjects status keeps changing so you can’t renegotiate your Overlord Status. It’s happened four times on the same Empire for me. Keeps flipping between a Vassal and Protectorate. Also, first Impression, I don’t think the Overlord Mechanic makes you feel like you own them. Like they can refuse an agreement you try to propose to them. I’d though idea was you could make demands but loyalty would suffer. But you can only get agreements by consent; just like Federation or Galactic Community. I actually feel I have less control over my vassals right now.
The UI is the real hero of stellaris. Its taken on more pages and tabs than a ui has any right to take. At this point I call it the stellaris directory.
Well. Very mixed Steam reviews, as was to be expected. People are complaining about glaring bugs and lack of QA. I think this video should be marked as ad rather than as review.
Honestly the DLC doesn't fulfill it's promise, being about vassals. Not because we haven't got a lot of new features about them- just they're all free! (This ain't a complaint lol, and I still want the DLC for the other features!)
Regarding UI: They need to fix everything that requires excessive scrolling. Building a building on a planet is an atrocity. I cannot imagine that having a x*y grid is super hard compared to a list.
Loved stellaris, best in its genre for sure. Problem is developers make it too big instead of making some life quality changes. The start is the best part, but then when you accumulate 20+ worlds and have to manage them manually cuz AI is too stupid the game get too tedious and boring...or it was like that a year ago anyway Oh right...spending half a minute scrolling through outliner every time you need to find fleet/planet/station....ok yeah I’ll pass this time. Im sure they’ll make UI better eventually
It's Stellaris, it's always instant purchase lol (The painful experience was starting to play the game, at least since I wanted the full experience from the get go.)
Everybody needs to buy the starter pack at least or if you can, just buy the entire ULTIMATE BUNDLE. otherwise, the base game alone felt shallow. only by buying the ultimate bundle, that's when you feel the game is complete.
The DLC does look rather promising, though figure I'll give it a day or three to see if there's any major issues. On the issue of UI, I gotta admit it's begun grating on me to the point where at times the game's becoming noticeably less fun for me, just because there's all these really obvious top-level user-experience things just sitting there, being minor aggravations that persist year after year. I'd straight up prefer to skip some new features if it meant getting fixes for the hot mess that is the fleet manager, the fact that many system icons on the galactic map (for megastructures, etc) are invisible and/or have incorrect on-click behaviours, oddly located buttons, etc.
IDK if i missed it but it also introduced a slue of new bugs as well... I know they'll fix them but id rather they delayed updates instead of rushing them out...
Started a Rogue Servitor (should have picked a new origin) playthrough and at least early game I am not seeing too much of the new mechanics. It’s 2250 and it’s feel like it will take a long time to grind these vassals down before they do what I want. Maybe once I get some of the railroads and later tech it will start to feel different but atm I am not seeing the changes. Maybe I am getting massive penalties because I am a machine empire and using the vassal mechanics?
if you are a canadian the price is a kick in the teeth. you literally pay more than anyone in the world with a possible exception of Israelis, pending the current exchange rate between the CAD and NIS, and Americans themselves.
I’m not Canadian but isn’t it only like 27CAD? In Iceland it’s 1usd/134isk or in Vietnam 1usd/20,000vnd . Not saying you aren’t paying a little more but a kick in the teeth seems a little exaggerated.
I’m really hoping that the next big dlc includes a combat rebalance, everything in stellaris at this point is so well made and expansive with multiple options that combat being the only thing that’s not really like that makes it stick out even more than it already does
How do you do it without adding busy work though? Wars are already stressful trying to manage everything at the same time (on top of your economy), even when you have the overwhelming advantage. If you had to refit ships to deal with different set ups mid-war it would be a nightmare. Especially if you are fighting more than one empire at a time. And the fact that you don't actually have to manage the battles themselves is one of stellaris' biggest strengths compared to other 4X's which always get bogged down as soon as wars kick off.
Tbh with the habitation ring stuff I just had starbases and shipyards and such turned off on my outliner so it’s only really a problem if you wanted to have that open
I don't know if there will be but it would be super cool if we could get a Stellaris 2 with updated ui and qol. I love this game but some things do feel odd.
When this finally hits the console version it’s going to make the game harder every time there’s an expansion and it finally Comes to the console version It makes the a.i God like well it was already like that when I bought the game even on easy and the empire I would run into They will already be massive well I’m just trying to get my feet wet I don’t have every single expansion but I know when I finally have all of them I probably wouldn’t even be able to finish a game In a good position

I just bought the 100$ pack for all the DLC…wish me luck I guess I’m going to have 0 clue what is going on
I would strongly recommend turning on own expansion each play through. Or maybe every other.
Not counting distant stars. That one is mostly stories, and you should turn on right away..
This keeps it from being overwhelming, but also let’s you appreciate what each expansion brings.
@@taylorledet3993 -- I also just bought it. If you watch a few UA-cam videos you'll soon pick it up. (I have had the other DLC's turned off while I pick it up though.)
@@taylorledet3993 you will do great, people like to overstate the complexity of the game.
I love using Vassals for my games in general. Did the same for EU4, did the same for Stellaris. It’s good that there’s a lot more that we can do with vassals now
I just wanted to buy the DLC for the OST but sadly my money expectation doesnt got meet, looks like imma wait for my checkouts.
Really good to see a well structured and thought out video from yourself. Much appreciated
Thanks for the recommendation and review.
You're welcome
Thank you so much for explaining the quantum catapult
Literally scheduled a game to launch 30 min after expansion launch so, waiting about 9 minutes over here.
The subterranean one is such a dwarf origin
What do you mean should i buy it? It's already in the library
Buy it again
Alright, I'll watch this in a year when overlord comes on console...
Honestly, Overlord is best fun I`ve had in Stellaris in a while now. Becomming galaxy emperror not just de-jure with galactic community, but also de-facto with actuall vasals is now finally fun.
I love how I got almost every dlc along with the game for the summer sale, it was awesome, only cost around 100 dollars total
Wait till the Beta test is complete and its on sale.
I agree with the idea of hyper relays coming sooner in the tree. I always feel by the time I get my network up, I already got jump drives as a threat and it kind of ruins the vibe of protecting those routes.
I forsee that not a single person will ever use the quantum catapult while the randem effect is present.
I dunno sounds good for deep strikes into unprotected territory
@@ProvostZarakov that is the purpouse. What about the price? Would you rather build this or a dyson sphere? The answer is obvious.
@@UnusualDeathCause I mean you act as if it's one or the other? Por que no los dos?
@@UnusualDeathCause why not both?
There have been a number of complaints about this DLC. Should I wait for the bugs to be fixed and some re balancing to be brought in?
No need for that tbh. I have played for about ten hours with no major bugs encountered.
Since this is the only video game I'm currently investing in, I'm buying it.
Thank you for the review! Are you going to do a new beginner series tutorial tutorial after the release of 3.4? :)
Yes
@@A_Spec Excited for that!
Only complaint I have is the lack of new music. The Nemesis theme is starting to get on my nerves every time I load the game up.
It had 4 new tracks
@@A_Spec 👀Just listened to them and they're great. Stargazer would be perfect in the main menu.
Haven't been following overlord much and wanted to wait till it's released and see what people think. My take is that the additions are pretty solid, but we might need a patch or two to smooth out some wrinkles. I'm still excited though and plan on getting it now!
Does anybody know why Paradox has deleted the African, European and Latino races and swapped them out for various shades of Pacific Islander...?
Probably because Sweden is obsessed with dying.
Just the video I needed
It's a bit of a mess in places though
@@A_Spec like the yellow pages. ;p
Quite
Stellaris is a new game again
Well. Very mixed Steam reviews, as was to be expected. People are complaining about glaring bugs and lack of QA. I think this video should be marked as ad rather than as review.
Ah yes, my opinion is different from the norm therefore it's prolly an ad...
I really hate how bloated prices of Paradox games are with DLC, it's insane.
Honestly the DLC doesn't fulfill it's promise, being about vassals. Not because we haven't got a lot of new features about them- just they're all free! (This ain't a complaint lol, and I still want the DLC for the other features!)
Fast answer: You shouldn't. You should crack it
2:05 back in my day we could fit a whole hyper relay into a starbase.
We are now in the seventh year of Stellaris. Will we get to eight, or we are getting into Holy Fury territory with Overlord?
Planets that actually orbit DLC that im currently waiting
I just want the late game lag to go away idk why its still a issue and I got a beefy system :C
Thanks for the heads-up about the UI issues.
When I saw the new human portrait, the fist word that came to my head was Chad
Proceeds to watch a "Should you buy" video AFTER I bought it.
PS. VaZZals :P
Regarding UI: They need to fix everything that requires excessive scrolling.
Building a building on a planet is an atrocity. I cannot imagine that having a x*y grid is super hard compared to a list.
Ultimate Bundle is only 110 on steam right now. Waiting for it to drop to 80 on G2A again and I'm picking this up.
I've gotten every single pack so far and one of my favourites is the federations pack
Loved stellaris, best in its genre for sure. Problem is developers make it too big instead of making some life quality changes. The start is the best part, but then when you accumulate 20+ worlds and have to manage them manually cuz AI is too stupid the game get too tedious and boring...or it was like that a year ago anyway
Oh right...spending half a minute scrolling through outliner every time you need to find fleet/planet/station....ok yeah I’ll pass this time.
It's a 10$ dlc right I don't think it's worth the same price as federations and nemesis.
Cannot wait for this to hit console edition!!
Maybe I am getting massive penalties because I am a machine empire and using the vassal mechanics?
if you are a canadian the price is a kick in the teeth. you literally pay more than anyone in the world with a possible exception of Israelis, pending the current exchange rate between the CAD and NIS, and Americans themselves.
wait how much is it in cad? wtf are they charging?
I’m not Canadian but isn’t it only like 27CAD? In Iceland it’s 1usd/134isk or in Vietnam 1usd/20,000vnd . Not saying you aren’t paying a little more but a kick in the teeth seems a little exaggerated.
@@historyrepeat402 i did the conversion math and it's literally cheaper here lol
I really think this is as good as utopia. My reasoning for myself is I like vassels more and the progenitor have mind is by far my favorite orgin.
As on all Stellaris new content DLC's...wait at least 2 months for the devs to fix all the bugs and the big balance problems.
I don't suppose they could talk to one the UI modders contract them to officially rejigger said UI officially?
I'm starting to think it's time for Stellaris 2!
