I am now an Aquatics Enjoyer. I've never been happy with Trade Goods and largely played machine empires because of this. With Anglers however this has been resolved! Trade value, consumer goods, a surplus of food to then make into alloys... My economy is handled practically at the outset!
Too slow aspec, I already bought it 2 hours ago lol But honestly this has the best looking shipset so far and you can definitely tell they put a lot of love into the portraits I can't wait to try it out once I figure out which of my mods are causing my game to crash as soon as I try to start a new game lol
They really missed something if they, in Frank Herbert, didn't think to include an event chain that spawns sandworms on a desert planet on which you can find a spice called melange that increases your leader lifespans and their stats but also makes them addicted to spice. Maybe also a variant on the event chain where a scientist becomes exposed to spicegas and develops some unique trait that lets him jump his ship as if he had jumpdrive long before your civ develops the tech. You must of course colonise the planet and name it Arrakis otherwise the ghost of Frank will appear and smite your home system.
Wanna know something hilarious that just happened to me? The trailer that makes up the intro for this vid played as an ad before the video started. If that ain't appropriate advertising, if a little redundant, I don't know what is.
With the new Deluge weapon I'd love for Paradox to add some more colossus based weapons that can be used with more utility than just "Planet is now dead." For example, I know it would never work for balencing reasons, but imagine a machine empire being able to just dump nanobots onto a biological homeworld and have them turn the planet into a Machine World or just a world of metal for future mining. That would be awesome as hell.
This is the reason I despise the multiplayer community for this game. I don't want multiplayer, I want to play single player. I want jank. I want disgusting imbalance in order to do whacky shit like this.
I don't see why adding Resource Consolidation modifier with a Colossus would be imbalanced. It's a powerful modifier, but by the point when you have Colossus, you're pumping out habitats and machine worlds left and right.
Heads up, they removed the 10% hull strength for aquatic admirals right before release. Something worth knowing if you wanted to buy the dlc for that reason.

The song sounds like the ones that made the really catchy one from Warframe ages ago when the first open world area was released. They are a really nice group that really know how to make good songs like this.

@Acolyte of Dagon It's good. The novelty of having some new stuff is good by default after 1K hrs played, which probably makes me biased, but it's not expensive. The price is in my case justified by the hrs played many times over, even if I don't play aquatic empires too often. I wouldn't say it is "necessary" like utopia, apocalypse and synthetic dawn expansions which I can't play without anymore, but still brings something new to the table like Necroids. I do love how it is integrated with apocalypse for makeshift aquatic-terraforming though.
Gonna be real. I thought arctic worlds were essentially frozen ocean worlds and there was liquid water under the ice. If that were true they really should at least have the neutrality afforded continental and tropical. Hell, I thought tropical was basically a wet world where it is mostly land. Lots of rivers, swamps and lakes. That would benefit an aquatic specie more than a desert, sure, but here we go shaking my perception of things.

on another note i love these sort of games and Stellaris does it well yes people new to these sort of games will find it hard with how the things work and have trouble min maxing things but all the dlcs are worth it as they add many new things to the game and when combined with the right mods the game is so much fun that i have never not wanted it on my computer
The biggest thing I would like to see them expand on though remains diplomacy. Maybe introduce something that makes the galactic community try to maintain a balance of power. That if you grow too strong they will all team up to cut you down to size. That would make diplomacy relevant later on cause you would need to maintain relationships with the strongest members at all times.
when i look at the ships and structures i think "this is avian...but better" although i would love to see a mod where if you had the dragon and this dragon could get together, you can sacrifice a world to them which will remove them from the field but allows you to start your own dragon breeding program
I started an Ocean Paradise Game, I did'nt get any frozen world around. What I got was: A relic World, A Gaia World (unguarded), another relic World tied to the Rubicator and a 25 Ocean world a little farther away. This is so powerful... I amlost feel bad.
Shame they didn't add any aquatic gestalt content...it's all for non-gestalt empires. Instead of "anglers", a hive might have "Coral Brain" giving a coral drone granting a small amount of research and unity. Not sure what a machine would have though. Also, while the ships do look nice, other than the corvette they don't really have an aquatic feel to them. To really understand what I mean by this, take a look at the ship design for the Boron species in X series, specifically X3 or X4. If you like using normal or megacorp empires this is a good pack. A friend and I both got it day of release. He loves it. I prefer playing Hives, and the lack of any content in that quarter is really disappointing. If you like playing hives, skip this DLC for now.
I agree with you, but for the titan if you look down from the top it looks like a cuttlefish at rest. And a lot of the ships are more designed to be oceanic transports rather than aping Earth aquatic critters.

instant idea for mod: the aquatic colossus gets reworked into basically just a big balloon and a syringe or something on planetary scale. you need to make it eat ice asteroids untill it is full and then it takes no setup time at all when you dump all of the liquid on whatever world you targeted. also include terraforming by making the world resulting in your deluge be one level more wet than it was before. can be repeated of course.

I still want to help populate my new worlds/conquered worlds with my armies that can be disbanded and turned to colonists. Like every army counts as 0.5 pops so you can't just dump armies willy nilly but dropping a 10 stack army on a world they just conquered could help a long way and be an awesome Rome style RP
@@A_Spec that would be interesting. You would have to really think about how you would build up an invasion army. Maybe if you has an excess amount of jobless pops or unpaid interns and just throw them up in an auxiliary army so they got something to do and won't be burdens to your empire.

I don't know, but I'm of the opinion that if you deluge a molten world it takes twice as long and generates a nebula in the system. You know, for making a sauna on a stellar system scale. 😆
i would have liked more actual aquatic based portraits. We already have molluscs, arthropods, etc for the game, we have very few fish or aquatic mammal based portraits and that was what i was hoping to see (and no, sorry, but i dont' count 'put animal head X on humanoid body' as good enough, as well as WHY would a aquatic species evolve a highly inefficient humanoid body for underwater ) But the ships look great!
LOL where are my space sharks, sea turtles and orcas? Most of those portraits for aquatics have humanoid bodies. One half naked humanoid dolphin can only take your so far!

If the colossus can turn planets into Ocean worlds, what would happen if you used it on a barren, molten, or toxic world? Wouldn’t that mean that you can have almost as many planets as you want?
At that point, the player has usually won the game versus the AI. In multiplayer, with how slow the pop growth is now, you just don't get that much out of it as the planetary development is slowed down significantly
@@dmytroshulga4578 True. I typically set the pop growth settings to be closer to how it was before 3.1, but yeah under the new pop growth settings, that doesn’t really benefit much. Still a fun idea with the Colossus though.

@@A_Spec that would be interesting. You would have to really think about how you would build up an invasion army. Maybe if you has an excess amount of jobless pops or unpaid interns and just throw them up in an auxiliary army so they got something to do and won't be burdens to your empire.

I don't know, but I'm of the opinion that if you deluge a molten world it takes twice as long and generates a nebula in the system. You know, for making a sauna on a stellar system scale. 😆

i would have liked more actual aquatic based portraits. We already have molluscs, arthropods, etc for the game, we have very few fish or aquatic mammal based portraits and that was what i was hoping to see (and no, sorry, but i dont' count 'put animal head X on humanoid body' as good enough, as well as WHY would a aquatic species evolve a highly inefficient humanoid body for underwater )

LOL where are my space sharks, sea turtles and orcas? Most of those portraits for aquatics have humanoid bodies. One half naked humanoid dolphin can only take your so far!
Not played in some time. This is the only DLC I do not have. Considering getting it and trying again. Pretty much forgot how to play so will have to check out your tutorial videos.

If the colossus can turn planets into Ocean worlds, what would happen if you used it on a barren, molten, or toxic world? Wouldn’t that mean that you can have almost as many planets as you want?
At that point, the player has usually won the game versus the AI. In multiplayer, with how slow the pop growth is now, you just don't get that much out of it as the planetary development is slowed down significantly
@@dmytroshulga4578 True. I typically set the pop growth settings to be closer to how it was before 3.1, but yeah under the new pop growth settings, that doesn’t really benefit much. Still a fun idea with the Colossus though.

I don't even know the mechanics of that particular hybrid (assuming it can actually be done), but it sounds absolutely f*cking terrifying.
@@palladin1337 I haven’t tested it out myself yet, but I think one of the bigger stellaris streamers did and it actually worked.
Remove the Lithoid from that and you have the Aquatoids from Terror From The Deep.
