How refreshing, a video not trashing a car, which is very easy to do. Every car has faults. Especially an older one. And knowing how bad the conditions are that car is living in (U.K. weather and roads), it's actually surprising to hear all this. Thanks for not going the direction everyone else on youtube is going.

I don’t own a Cayenne, but I’m delighted to hear you yet again mention that a majority of these cars are actually quite reliable; if you only read a few comments on some trashy forum you’ll get a bunch of Lexus people complaining about RR’s being unreliable. These people have also (mostly) never owned a Range Rover.
This is coming from someone who owns a QP5 and have had many Range Rover’s, and a new Defender 90….

Keep it - I have the exact same car on a '56 plate & I will confirm that the costs can get a bit saucy but then again, you kind of know it will when you buy it. For example my wipers broke the other day & it is £800 to get the whole issue sorted with a fit etc. If that was something cheap like an Insignia it would be about half that price for the same job. However, dont let it put you off as these really are fantastic & I would say the V6 is the better option to avoid some of the other really painful issues they can have (and 250bhp is fine for daily driving, I never feel short on power really). It is much more interesting than the equivalent range rover as well!

Something that isn’t taken into account a lot, and should be. If I have to spend 2k a year on my 2001 jag xkr, I can live with that. Because the 330e I sold recently, lost me just shy of 1k a month on depreciation. Granted if I kept it for an extra year the depreciation per month would be less, but still a hell of a lot more than 200 per month that old car maintenance works out to be.

Hi Joel, always love the content but in particular the cayenne content, mainly because I picked up a 955 V6 at a similar time to you, so it’s been great to follow the journey.
Unfortunately my experience has been vastly different to yours. I found the engine to be super reliable, however that couldn’t be said for everything else around it. I had consistent EML’s & PSM alerts, driveshaft knocking as mentioned in the video, coolant leaks, gearbox issues & what ultimately killed the car was a rotten subframe that made it uneconomical to repair.
That being said, I do still think they are fantastic and the prices they are currently at makes them a pretty low risk gamble, even if the running costs are quite high!
That being said, if another one came up around me and it had been well looked after then I’d happily pay a bit more to get behind the wheel of one again!

There is a saying my dad said who was in the motor-trade 50 odd years.
People who complain shout the loudest.

So most of the comments you see on forums are negative.

  • @redsidebiker

Joel, I'd keep the Cayenne. As you say, it has proven to be reliable and not overtly expensive over the last 12,000 miles. I know that it isn't good for your channel views, but you need a car that you can basically rely on 100% - you have it there. Mess about (pardon the pun) with the Maserati or whatever follows that. Good viewing and good for shouting down some of the naysayers.

For me, as an owner of a Turbo, mechanical sympathy is key with these, just like it should be with all cars, and maintenance - so... Well you have gotten your car to be reliable and you trust it, and now have an understandable itch to try something else, it's the idea of have something new to you that is exciting. The basic choice here is now cost, you are in a good place (apart from the fuel thing) and you could go for another car, but you being you, you are going to have to go through all the preventative maintenance things again, at a cost, and who knows what will come of that... Ultimately it is just a question of how much you want to spend. A good well cared for vehicle will look after you, an abused one will punish you, and the people who do that always blames the vehicle... I look forward to where the winds of fortune take you...

  • @ford890a

That's the problem with forums. If 300 people say my car was a unreliable nightmare it looks bad. They ignore the fact that that the other 50,000 buyers were basically happy. Just have to try and buy one that hasn't been abused.

I've had a couple of cayennes and also a v10 touareg(basically the same car). They have nice quality mostly. But i've found quality is lacking in some areas. they usually get water inside because of blocked water outlets. And that leads to a lot of electrical problems. Air suspension is a pain sometimes when it starts to act up. Auto valve body can fail, front differential can fail.. interior plastic is not very high quality, V8s can have cylinder scoring and lots lots more that happens with these cars. I think you got a bit lucky with this one. They are great cars when they run :)

I daily drive my 2001 BMW V8 X5. It’s hard to beat an old school V8 in a fully loaded vehicle with all the toys. I’ve had some major works done on it in the last 10 years since I’ve owned it that’s cost a few quid but it still soldiers on.
I did have a 955 with the proper engine before the X5 and although it was reliable I always felt it was fragile - especially the interior trim bits. I quite often keep a look out for another but it’s gonna have to be a silver or gun metal grey with brown interior..
Just sold my Audi Q7 4.2tdi as well. Nice car but a bit too long.
