I feel as the channel grows and time goes on, that you have really found your own personality and feautres that differentiate you from the crowd. I really do feel sorry for Blackpool. Back in the 80's when I was a kid a trip to the Blackpool lights was a big deal every year as was the Sandcastle and it was packed with families all the time. The onset of £99 weeks in Tenerife has killed the place and all that is left is a lot of hotel owners with no guests trying to maintain and run places that need a staff of 10 with 2 people.
When I last went just over a decade ago, it was really run down and shabby. It's simultaneously managed to improve in some ways and get shabbier in others. You can tell that the council and government have tried to revitalise it because the actual streets look modern and clean. But the local businesses are clearly still pretty dire and haven't been able to see the same investment. I camped when I was there, and got a real bad case of the trots. We were pitched possibly the furthest point from the toilets in the centre of the ground. That was not a good couple of nights. Mum gave me some Immodium. After waiting a couple of hours it was clear it didn't work. So I got another. And another. After the squits had passed I don't think I passed a log for 3 weeks. And when I use the term 'log'. It was like I was birthing a 200 year old oak tree.
Here in Denmark we've got a show called "Nul Stjerner" (Zero stars), where two hosts travel to rarely visited countries/cities and stay in the worst rated places. It's incredible.

That hotel just reeks of landlord investment. It has all the tell tale signs of checking a box to meet the minimum requirements. the toilet isnt actually inside the room, no it has a curtain, therefore en-suite. any bed that fits will do. uniformity? nah, whatever the secondhand shop has is fine. need a nightstand? chair with a lamp is fine. pay for repairs? nah I can do it myself. looking at the sinks in the rooms, it wouldnt surprise me if it used to be student accommodation.
Nahh, there are a lot of 'Guesthouse' hotels in the UK with shared bathrooms where there is a sink in each room: Sort of one step up from a hostel. It comes from the era 100-150 years ago when mass tourism took off in the UK off the back of affordable Train and Coach Trips from the cities to the seaside. All these large, grand, houses that used to belong to wealthy people on the seafront got quickly turned into hotels to accommodate the influx of thousands of low paid factory workers who could suddenly afford go on holiday for the first time.
I damn well hope that is foreshadowing!! Imagine these two touring the U.S., driving down Route 66 in a cheap shitbox they bought instead of renting something…. Top Gear Style!

I loved Blackpool as a kid, we used to go there a lot to ride the Donkeys, build sand castles, go to the arcade, ride the big one, eat some rock candy, and watch the Blackpool lights. Looks like its not been looked after, although it was always a bit shabby I guess.

Random one for you guys - Whilst in Blackpool last month I stayed at the Travelodge South Shore. I happened to come across the old Car Throttle Honda SMX... Looking a bit abandoned... 😂 So if you or anyone is in Blackpool again for whatever reason, go have a look 😂
Last time I stayed in Blackpool I stayed at the Holiday Inn near the North Pier. Nice, new hotel, close to the Trams so you can go anywhere and the breakfast was awesome. Highly recommend that hotel.
I remember in 2023 I travelled from the Netherlands to Leeds and to split up the drive I wanted to go into London and sleep there in a hotel. I literally took the cheapest I could find within the M25 perimeter and I think it was 47 quid a night. Sure, it wasn't great and I vividly remember a weird smell, plus my room didn't have a window and it was the middle of summer and really warm, but for 47 quid I could have a break from driving, a shower, a bed and a way to arrive fresh as a daisy in Leeds. Cheap hotels are not for staying weeks in. They're for having a bed and that's it.
I've just stayed in a hotel just around the corner owned by the same company and I can confirm that the deco and chaos plumbing is company wide. The toilet door only being held on with one hinge was a personal highlight .
I used to work for a company that did all the maintenance for a large bargain shop chain in the uk. We used to travel to pretty much every corner of the uk to work on these shop and when working away we used to stay in the cheapest hotels the company could book for us. Some were actually decent. Others were like hostels. This one is rank somewhere in the middle. I’ve stayed in much much worse and I know the company has paid much more for worse rooms
I live in Blackpool, it's very seasonal, those prices will not be the same in season they just knock the price right down for locals that might need a place to stay for a bit I stayed in a hotel for like 2 months in the off season while I looked for a house if they dont do they they'll close until the end of the off season
Great video guys. That hotel didn't look too bad. Perhaps it's just owner-managed and the owner doesn't make enough to justify employing cleaners so takes a bit long between cleans? Still, it's cheap and one to consider when visiting Blackpool 🙂
Booked a room in Blackpool for £40 for 2 nights for the air show, honestly for the money it was more than expected! Shared bathroom but better than others I've booked at twice the price!
this brings back memories of a hotel me & some friends stayed in at manchester, (merchants hotel) we left it to a friend to book, he booked the cheapest place he could find, we looked at the reviews the night before in the pub (were from blackpool strangely enough) hotel was an absolute dive, no towels, dirty, tvs were bike locked to the wall (the one in my room was misssing) awful views of a rough backstreet alley, we got back at 4 am dying for a drink to find no cups, had to drink out of little plastic dishes, was grim at the time, but we definitely look back and laugh about it!
To be fair lads,me and my team of bouncers and mates,came down from Glasgow to Blackpool for a couple of mad ones in around 2010, we had nowhere booked and found ourselves traipsing around the side streets for somewhere at 6am,We came across a wee B&B, They had vacancies and was a princely sum of £20 per person per night,the place was a bit dated but spotless,the food was amazing and for an extra fiver it was a huge dinner too,every time you turned around the wee woman was bringing more food to your table, lovely old couple, clean and warm, amazing food and zero regrets If I could remember the name of the place id post it, but if I ever go back to blacky for a few sherberts, I know where ill be staying.
Blackpool as a Mancunian child was a delight for me - took my 2 kids there to see the lights aged 5 and 6 and seeing guys getting blowies up side streets yards from the sea front was a shock. Went back a couple of times for conferences more recently and its a proper hole - terrible place
One of my weirdest experiences in a hotel was in Paris. There was a noise like someone was using a really old electric shaver and it just did not stop. Was staying with my brother and we both were thinking there must be a guest in a nearby room who had the worst beard gorwth ever. Shaving-shaving-shaving - he just could not get it finished... The next moring the sound was still there. Leaving the room, we found that the sound was emanating from an old emergency exit sign...
To find truly ridiculously bad hotels you have to visit other continents. One was in a border town in Bolivia, the dodgiest town I've ever visited, it really was massive stains on the walls, doors, and on the mattress. Outside the miniscule window there was a karate club training. The window just went another room. We didn't stay the night thank god. My wife started crying and some old folks let took us down some back streets to a hotel that wasn't a disaster. Anyway, not sure I'd want to stay at the Seaview Hotel...
I like that the roo. with fire hazzard extensioncord, also has its smokesensor in the worst place. Just in the corner where the heat makes a nice smoke free pocket.
I used to work at a Shilton hotel and a room there could cost more than that entire hotel per night (mostly mid week business nights). And some rooms were on par with the Seaview there. But that is mostly down to the money people not wanting to spend money on keeping maintenance up or paying for paint/fixings.
Hence the sinks in the bathrooms, it's something from the olden days when bedrooms had sinks in them but instead of removing it, they just keep the plumbing in place and maybe replace the sink because they're cheap
Challenge idea: Buy a lost suitcase from an airport and go on holiday with whatever is in there

@@Lb.q2 Even if it swivels you are watching TV what is in a end of a narrow hallway, there is pretty much only one spot you can watch that TV comfortably 😂
I loved Blackpool as a kid, we used to go there a lot to ride the Donkeys, build sand castles, go to the arcade, ride the big one, eat some rock candy, and watch the Blackpool lights. Looks like its not been looked after, although it was always a bit shabby I guess.

Last time I stayed in Blackpool I stayed at the Holiday Inn near the North Pier.
Nice, new hotel, close to the Trams so you can go anywhere and the breakfast was awesome.
Highly recommend that hotel.

I remember in 2023 I travelled from the Netherlands to Leeds and to split up the drive I wanted to go into London and sleep there in a hotel. I literally took the cheapest I could find within the M25 perimeter and I think it was 47 quid a night. Sure, it wasn't great and I vividly remember a weird smell, plus my room didn't have a window and it was the middle of summer and really warm, but for 47 quid I could have a break from driving, a shower, a bed and a way to arrive fresh as a daisy in Leeds. Cheap hotels are not for staying weeks in. They're for having a bed and that's it.

I've just stayed in a hotel just around the corner owned by the same company and I can confirm that the deco and chaos plumbing is company wide. The toilet door only being held on with one hinge was a personal highlight .

I used to work for a company that did all the maintenance for a large bargain shop chain in the uk. We used to travel to pretty much every corner of the uk to work on these shop and when working away we used to stay in the cheapest hotels the company could book for us. Some were actually decent. Others were like hostels. This one is rank somewhere in the middle. I’ve stayed in much much worse and I know the company has paid much more for worse rooms
I live in Blackpool, it's very seasonal, those prices will not be the same in season they just knock the price right down for locals that might need a place to stay for a bit I stayed in a hotel for like 2 months in the off season while I looked for a house if they dont do they they'll close until the end of the off season
Great video guys. That hotel didn't look too bad. Perhaps it's just owner-managed and the owner doesn't make enough to justify employing cleaners so takes a bit long between cleans? Still, it's cheap and one to consider when visiting Blackpool 🙂

Booked a room in Blackpool for £40 for 2 nights for the air show, honestly for the money it was more than expected! Shared bathroom but better than others I've booked at twice the price!

this brings back memories of a hotel me & some friends stayed in at manchester, (merchants hotel) we left it to a friend to book, he booked the cheapest place he could find, we looked at the reviews the night before in the pub (were from blackpool strangely enough) hotel was an absolute dive, no towels, dirty, tvs were bike locked to the wall (the one in my room was misssing) awful views of a rough backstreet alley, we got back at 4 am dying for a drink to find no cups, had to drink out of little plastic dishes, was grim at the time, but we definitely look back and laugh about it!

Buy yourself an ultraviolet torch for any such (low cost hotel) stays. Check the walls, check the floor and check the bedding!
To be fair lads,me and my team of bouncers and mates,came down from Glasgow to Blackpool for a couple of mad ones in around 2010, we had nowhere booked and found ourselves traipsing around the side streets for somewhere at 6am,We came across a wee B&B, They had vacancies and was a princely sum of £20 per person per night,the place was a bit dated but spotless,the food was amazing and for an extra fiver it was a huge dinner too,every time you turned around the wee woman was bringing more food to your table, lovely old couple, clean and warm, amazing food and zero regrets If I could remember the name of the place id post it, but if I ever go back to blacky for a few sherberts, I know where ill be staying.

Blackpool as a Mancunian child was a delight for me - took my 2 kids there to see the lights aged 5 and 6 and seeing guys getting blowies up side streets yards from the sea front was a shock. Went back a couple of times for conferences more recently and its a proper hole - terrible place
One of my weirdest experiences in a hotel was in Paris. There was a noise like someone was using a really old electric shaver and it just did not stop. Was staying with my brother and we both were thinking there must be a guest in a nearby room who had the worst beard gorwth ever. Shaving-shaving-shaving - he just could not get it finished... The next moring the sound was still there. Leaving the room, we found that the sound was emanating from an old emergency exit sign...
Next time you two do something similar you should bring a UV flashlight...
To find truly ridiculously bad hotels you have to visit other continents. One was in a border town in Bolivia, the dodgiest town I've ever visited, it really was massive stains on the walls, doors, and on the mattress. Outside the miniscule window there was a karate club training. The window just went another room. We didn't stay the night thank god. My wife started crying and some old folks let took us down some back streets to a hotel that wasn't a disaster.
Anyway, not sure I'd want to stay at the Seaview Hotel...
I like that the roo. with fire hazzard extensioncord, also has its smokesensor in the worst place. Just in the corner where the heat makes a nice smoke free pocket.
I used to work at a Shilton hotel and a room there could cost more than that entire hotel per night (mostly mid week business nights). And some rooms were on par with the Seaview there. But that is mostly down to the money people not wanting to spend money on keeping maintenance up or paying for paint/fixings.
Hence the sinks in the bathrooms, it's something from the olden days when bedrooms had sinks in them but instead of removing it, they just keep the plumbing in place and maybe replace the sink because they're cheap
