  • It's tinker day at WIngsGeo. An easy and cheap solution for better sound and maybe a wee bit more torque for the V85. Easy reversible in 10 minutes.

    Wow - that sounds _really_ good. True story: I recently pulled up on my 2021 V85 in front of my girlfriend's elderly parents' house, with them sitting on the front porch about 30 feet away. They commented, "oh, what a quiet motorcycle - we didn't even hear you coming down the street!" So that's the exact moment I knew she needed some "sound enhancement."
    So I've been thinking of getting the stainless Y-pipes (with cat delete) for mine. Figured I'd try that setup with the stock muffler and see if that loudened her up enough, but haven't yet gotten the strong enough urge to plop down the ~$800 for it. But hey, now that I've heard that sweet note you get from just yanking the muffler, I can see that happening soon. I'll know I've succeeded once I get a solid look of disapproval the next time I roll up to the old folks home. Thanks for sharing!

      Haha, I felt the same, besides the money, my objective was to keep it simple and able to revert back to stock form. Mission accomplished for me … :) The idle sound does not feel that much louder but it added a more V-Twin grumble to it. Now open it up and the difference is definitely noticeable in a good way. Let me know what you think if you give it a try.

      I was thinking about the same thing. Get rid of the down pipes and cross over and go with the complete system from Mistral minus the muffler. Theoretically, the bike should run better, less restriction, less HEAT because the cat is gone, better flow from the oversize pipes and fairly quiet with the stock muffler. I have the Agostini pipes on my V9. It is a bit loud, not obnoxious but after an hour of riding it gets tiring. Going through a tunnel with it, even wearing a full face Shoei helmet, anything over 2-3,000 rpms your ear drums will be destroyed. Well, it is a bobber so the sound matches the bike theme but the V85TT is a faster long distance bike and it shouldn't attract cop attention.

      @@tedmarakas2626 Good to know, as I just got a V7 as well. I like it a lot and after initial thoughts of modding, I will leave it as is, its almost perfect the way it sits! On the V85, that sounds intereting, but I wanted it to be as least intrusive and reversable as possible, so I like this solution a alot and it is not that much louder over stock, the video does not totally do it justice.

    This is exactly what I did to mine last week. Leave the emmisions/CAT on , loose the rear muffler and about 15lbs, + add a shorty pipe. Runs beautifully ! Just Fine without a tune. Additionally be sure to remove the one or two sticky tape on the factory air box.. you feel and hear far nicer induction noises. All for free.

      Exactly, we in the US here can do it, our friends in Europe not so much, due to their restrictions and laws from what I have been told.

      @@Thirty-OughtSick I had it for a while and if you don't do any serious off-road, it is a viable solution. Of course, I just changed my complete system for weight savings reasons and I needed a muffler in place again in case I do silly stuff like a water crossing, as it could ingest water otherwise.

    Since Josh brought up a good question. I measured with my Decibel Meter app, It shows 78db at idle and 84db at 4000 rpm. I think rather tame still.
    My H2 in comparison is showing 92db at idle ... =) ... and 102db respectively.

  • @StockySnail
    @StockySnail 2 роки тому +1

    Can definitely hear it coming/going now. ;) Earplugs are required now? I wonder what the decibels are with it? I just got the Agostini x-black and the db are about 3-5 more at 3k rpm in the garage compared to stock.

      @ThatGermanFella  2 роки тому +2

      I thought about it afterward to do a comparison ... lol, anyway, it is really not that bad. That said, I ALWAYS wear earplugs no matter what, my hearing is very near and dear to me ... =) Like you said it's a proper V twin now ...

    Very interesting ! I just checked in my garage to measure the diameter but I saw the side stand bracket wire is exactly in the tip axle (if I put one)... Don't you get an interference there ?!
    Thank you and I appreciate your videos !
    Best regards

      @ThatGermanFella  8 місяців тому

      Mine was barely touching it where it was not an issue. If your tip is longer or has a larger diameter, I can see where it could be more of an issue. Thanks for the kind words, it is appreciated.

    I've watched many videos of you already and I'd love to know one thing since your accent is really lovely: Where are you from?
    Also, even if removing the slip-on were conform to E4/E5 regulations, this would still be against the law in (presumably) most of Europe.

      It is my dirt and gravel bike and the clearance was fine. Now depending on what your definition of off-road is if you are talking hardcore, no, the bike itself is too heavy for that anyway. I also broke down and installed an Agostini for the V85 as they did wonders for the V7.

    😢 why, it's a sub 80ps motor and you knew that before you bought it. It's not that kind of bike man. So seriously, why? Anyways, may your titanium valves burn up due to lack of back pressure.
