Funny how this is the game that got me into the kings field series, even crazier is that this is the first fromsoft game I actually beat. (love the video)
Finally someone who effectively explains the Ring Crafting system. I did comment back when you revealed you were doing this game, i think i get how it works now 😂
I picked up Dark Souls 1 in 2012 and had to see their past work. The 3 american KF games and their early rpgs are really chill and enjoyable for me. No dialogue, just you and an adventure.
"Is that the best you can d--" I find Eternal Ring to be the weakest entry in the first person FromSoft library, but it is still solid and a great introduction for newer or more casual fans of the studio who are starting to reach back to the roots. It is far easier to approach than King's Field due to its significantly higher speed, generally brighter atmosphere, lower combat difficulty, and overall linear progression from area to area. Two things not mentioned in the video: - The PS4 port is a genuinely updated port, not simply an emulation. It runs at a stable 60fps and has a new Souls-esque control scheme with full analog support. - In the original JP version the first boss dropped a unique ring that let you run. International versions freed up a ring slot by making this an inate ability and instead the boss now drops the Ring of Insight which gives EXP.
@@Gehrich_ huh, I didn't know the PS4 port changed anything at all, I didn't want to play it since I figured the port would look less authentic as a PS2 game
@@Cryveil It definitely looks less authentic if you're a purist. Outside of the pre-rendered cutscenes it runs at a native 1080p instead of 448i. No upscaling, no deinterlace filter, and no artifacts, just a crystal clear image. I think it's also widescreen, but it's been a minute so I'm not 100% on that.
I feel like Fromsoft should do remakes of this and King's Field. They are old and so beloved. I'd like to see them with a fresh coat of paint and have their original ideas done even better.
You mean like barren shores, jumping beast-men, and “flying” enemies with bat wings? I think I also saw an enemy type really similar to the giant stone guys in the DLC forges too.
Would you do a review of Evergrace? It's equally as jank and fun ^-^ thanks for the video:edited, saw rest of video. Neat! Sharline deserves MAOR fanart imo.
@@Meowmixery Yep! I'll be doing Evergrace pretty soon, I was deciding between that game and more Armored Core next and I felt like taking a break from FromSoft fantasy games so the next video will be Armored Core related. After that though I'll move on to Evergrace (and eventually Evergrace 2)
Cant blame you, though I love fromsoft KF|Souls and such I enjoy their mechs too|though still waiting for Chomehounds 2 personally... Or at least a remaster
I started playing this game the other day and the 1 thing I'll give it compared to KF is that the movement and camera is nice and fast and melee combat seems more responsive. I'm confused as to why KF4 didn't keep this movement and turning speed
@@jeffr6062 The speed is nice but I think From decided to go back to a lower speed with KF4 to retain some of its difficulty. I think KF4 would be way too easy with the same movement system as Eternal Ring so I'm glad they reverted it back
Eternal Ring? More like Eternal Bling. Would not be surprised me if this game was just simply a pet project, then they just look at it for like 10 seconds, and went: "LET'S SHIP THE GAME!"
when it comes to the games being connected, when you really start to look at DS2 and KF4 as well as some other parts of the other KF games DS2 feels way more like a KF game than a sequel to either DS1 or DeS
The giants/golems of DS2 remind me a lot of the golems from KF, also the emphasis on Kings in DS2 and the King's Ring to open special doors is very reminiscent of KF4 especially. That's something that stood out to me ever since I played KF4 and part of what makes me like DS2 so much
@@Cryveil yeah the giants and golems especially, holes in their face, using the golems to unlock doors. the basic hollows also look way more like KF undead than ds1. lots of area parallels like throne of want and shulva. I once gathered a bunch of comparison images and the similarities are everywhere
Also I think this is important to note, ds2 is the only game since KF to have hidden walls activated by pressing a button instead of swinging at them or rolling into them. and the doors of pharos always reminded me of the golem crown totems or the teleport stones.
This game is atmospheric and intriguing. It was rushed through development which is a shame as there are so many cool moments throughout. My only criticism is the voice acting and the instant death in liquids thing. Give it a chance. Lights off. Headphones on. The PS4 port has trophies and is patched to work ok now. Its not for everyone - But try and let it be for you. King's Field until I die baby!

First Ring-like game
We have Elden Ring at home
no because this is years before
I don’t think that meme works in this particular scenario, seeing as this game is made by From Soft too
I like how many cursed islands surrounded by fog their are in Fromsoft. It's in nearly as many of their games as the Moonlight Sword.
