Wow, I watched the whole King's Field retrospective like 2 days ago for the first time, and then this comes out! Amazing timing! The algorithm must be working behind the scenes, frankly, and you deserve it! You do a good job selling what makes these games good!
As a HUGE fanatic of early From Soft, I remember when we were pre-Elden Ring seeing the trailers I was so pumped at how varied and whack the enemies were, made me feel like they were drawing from old games like Shadow Tower.. Kuz dayum Shadow Tower has some of thee most bizarre monster designs and I fekin LOVE it!! Prolly my second favourite From Soft dungeon crawler, VERY close second after King’s Field 4. I know it’s kinda in vogue to hate degradation system in games these days, but it’s actually my favourite part of Shadow Tower. I love how unforgiving the mechanic is, pick up a weapon and it’s already almost broken. Really makes the game have this cool survival element. Man how I would love for From Soft to make a new slow paced punishing exploration focused first-person dungeon crawler like Shadow Tower again 🙏😭🙏
I haven't watched it yet, but I'm just gonna say I'm glad that you liked how it was just to make it. Edit: It's great! Well written, covers all topics well and thoroughly, and explains what's necessary to the mechanic being explained. I love it!
I love this game and always play it around Halloween because of the creepy and dark atmosphere. This game really feels like a culmination of King’s Field and proto-Dark Souls, especially the acid level reminding me of the acid pools throughout Drangleic and the way illusory walls open in King’s Field ❤ I hope one day we get a remake of both Shadow Tower games and see an actual spiritual successor.
Thank you for sharing this video =w= The comparisons between this and King's Field is a very neat lesson in how changes in atmosphere and mechanics can make the base gameplay feel so different. And I already felt that KF1 was dark and oppressing, this has some real body horror that's super up my alley :3 and also the freaking VS mode, it has some similarities to Lost Kingdoms VS mode if you haven't checked that out before. Lovely video, thank you!!
Thanks for checking the video out! I had no idea Lost Kingdoms had a VS mode too, I'll definitely give that a similar segment when I get to the game. All I know is you control monsters with cards in LK so I can imagine the VS Mode probably has you controlling those monsters, I didn't think Fromsoft would attempt another VS mode after Shadow Tower though
Also wonder if both Shadow Tower games used King's Field 4 system, where hitting enemies would wear out melee weapons more if "attack power" bar not fully charged...
I'm not sure for the original Shadow Tower since the weapons already have very low durability and degrade quickly (when KF4 has all weapons at X/100), but it could very well be the case for Abyss if the weapons function similarly to KF4 (I'm not sure since I haven't played it yet)
Absolutely! I'm doing them somewhat in order so Evergrace should be a few videos from now (I'm working on Armored Core atm and will do Eternal Ring before Evergrace)
32:15 Looking for Moonlight Greatsword in Spriggan Lunar Verse was such a pain without much English coverage for that game, would you mind including the way of obtaining it when you'll cover that one?
@@Cryveil I honestly can't even remember if I used a text guide for that or a Japanese youtube video. Only vaguely remember that you need to play through the game with first two characters, and then go through 15th or something level while activating something.
12:25 Fans of Shadow Tower should check out Devil Spire. It's a roguelike, but it's the closest thing to a spiritual successor to this game that exists
After you beat the game you are returned to the game with all your progress. If yoy check your bestiary youll see that the crown will be there under the name "demon king".
You really think I’m going to sit here for over half an hour just to listen to you ramble about a game I never played? Well I am, but I’m also unsubscribing.
As much as I love this game... but I find it dumb when a system basically eats itself. "Repairing your stuff costs HP." Ok... I can deal with that... "Here is a ring that passively heals you." Aaaand I have unlimited durability...
HP Regen does break the durability system a little bit, but it also takes til near the end of the game to get decent enough HP Regen, otherwise in the mid game you can wait 10 minutes to repair your equipment again but it's still tedious
Too true. The regen ring and the healing pool you activate around Water World basically breaks the economy, but that doesn’t take away the challenge the enemies will provide lol.

I'm a simple man, I see Shadow Tower content, I consume it.
It really impress me how these Shadow Tower games have variety of enemies and levels... sometimes some monsters are really strange

In the Illusion World, I ran into these freaky Natulus creatures with wailing faces and yelled out "WTF IS THAT!?"
I'm ready to delve into the tower

Some of the animations for sword swings look like they were taken straight from the English military sabre system.
That's really cool to see.
New video lets gooo 🗣️🗣️🗣️🗣️, congrats on finishing this project
Pour one out for my boi: Gonad the magical cave frog.
Kingsfield has so many funky little horrors and i love them all

Shadow Tower was the original Demon's Souls
@@inslayerclone4679 "The real Demon's Souls begins here"
peak shadow tower video, now i know the difference between kingsfield and shadow tower !
Love your early fromsoft videos, will you be covering evergrace?
Absolutely! I'm doing them somewhat in order so Evergrace should be a few videos from now (I'm working on Armored Core atm and will do Eternal Ring before Evergrace)

I'll make note of that and try to include it if I can find it myself!

I feel the demon souls games were the successor of this game, more than any other ! (monster killer)
I'll look out for similarities whenever I inevitably do play Demon's Souls
Thank you !
HOLY SHIT HOLY SHIT HOLY SHIT HOLY SHIT
