  • I was fortunate to have been able to document and share my recovery experience at the world renowned hospital, Shouldice Hospital. This was my second inguinal hernia that I was having repaired here.
    Stay tuned for the next videos where I show my recovery when I return back to everyday living.
    Icing works wonders for the swelling and pain. I would recommend icing 20 min every hour and especially after walking or exercise. These ice packs are the perfect size.

    I just had a left inguinal hernia repaired yesterday morning, so far I’m still retaining a decent amount of motion. I am only 24 and work out every day, definitely ready to get back to it! Nothing seems to touch the pain unfortunately, but at least that is only temporary. Looking forward to getting back to working out.

    • @DEFYfitness
      @DEFYfitness  8 місяців тому +2

      Youth is on your side! I’m sure you will bounce back quickly. Just be cautious with working out as you are still healing. I actually got back it a little quick and tweaked my back a bit. With the hernia site, my body is likely guarding it still and so I’m not totally aligned properly.

      @@DEFYfitness Gotcha, makes perfect sense! I noticed the guarding, so I feel my first priority will be getting my posture slowly worked back to its natural state. Definitely glad I’ve found your videos! Will come in handy during my recovery, thanks!

    I think you had it rougher than I did. I walked around the building the day after surgery. I walked slowly but I made it. In hindsight, I probably shouldn't have but they want you to be active. I do recommend folks walk to the end of the hallway and back and do that once an hour. That's a good safe walk past the nursing station. Grab some prune juice while you walk by, you'll need it!
    I left one day early as they often ask patients if you want to. I probably would of stayed, but the final breakfast was almost all carbs. I decided to head home instead, so I could up the protein levels to help with the healing.

    I had my inguinal hernia surgery repaired here two months ago. Amazing experience I’m young and athletic, the recovery for few first days was hard and wasn’t able to walk properly but I’m doing well now I stand and walk for hours without problem just uncomfortable feeling sometimes.
    The scar tissue was looking the same one in pictures and now looks healthy and tiny.
    I’m wondering when the scar will be soft and break down ?

    • @DEFYfitness
      @DEFYfitness  8 місяців тому

      Glad to hear you had a great experience! My scar tissue on my fully healed side took more than a year to be soft. I did a lot of stretches and even massaged the area. It takes some time.

  • @carlosfonze727
    @carlosfonze727 4 місяці тому

    Great videos! Thank you for making them. I’m planning to try to get in soon. This helped a lot! Do they not suture the site on the outside? It didn’t look like it from your video. With the side fully healed can you feel the inside sutures if you touch the area? Are the inside sutures metal? Does it fell natural once healed or is there any tension or tightness? Thanks in advance for your time!

    • @DEFYfitness
      @DEFYfitness  4 місяці тому +2

      Shouldice doesn’t suture the outside but uses clips instead. With their procedure, I can’t feel the steel sutures they used but I definitely feel a ridge of the overlapping tissue. That ridge flattens over time. I’d say about a year later it’s quite flat. My first one had more tightness but in all fairness it was my own doing as I didn’t stretch it out very much. After doing a routine of stretches, it was totally fine and back to normal.

    How much did you weigh here? I have to lose a significant amount of weight to qualify for the surgery but worry about losing a bunch of muscle.

    • @DEFYfitness
      @DEFYfitness  2 місяці тому +1

      I was probably around 165 lbs. I didn't lose muscle. Worked out 5 days a week even to the day of checking in. Then back to the gym days after surgery. You won't lose that much if you keep your protein levels up. I also programmed my lifting schedule so I needed to deload the same week as surgery.

    • @coreybelliveau3479
      @coreybelliveau3479 2 місяці тому

    • @DEFYfitness
      @DEFYfitness  2 місяці тому

      @coreybelliveau3479 do you have a gameplan as to how to lose it yet? You will feel great losing that weight and having your hernia fixed. If you keep your protein levels up (1g of protein per 1 lbs of lean body mass and reduce your fat to under 100g per day and adjust carbs accordingly, you will keep your muscle - assuming you are lifting and resting enough).

    • @coreybelliveau3479
      @coreybelliveau3479 2 місяці тому

      @@DEFYfitness that’s pretty much the plan. I’m just starting to get serious and cutting bad habits like night time eating is the first step. I’m getting the sense it’s worth it. The alternative is to not worry about the weight and settle for mesh

    • @DEFYfitness

    • @DEFYfitness
      @DEFYfitness  8 місяців тому

      My first one happened when I lost my footing lifting a large awkward box. The second happened a year later on the opposite side for no apparent reason at the time. A surgeon told me it could be a genetic weakness in my tissue in this area.
