    • @DEFYfitness

      It's due to the accumulation of volume of pulling exercises. I always recommend to use straps as the forearms will always be a limiting factor with larger muscles.

    I am 4 weeks post op today from right side inguinal repair with mesh, and small umbilical repair with no mesh “both laparoscopic” doc told me I should wait 2 more weeks to start with gym. What are your thoughts? I’m dying to go back to the gym lol. But u don’t want to mess up my repair with no mesh. That’s the one I’m worried about

    • @DEFYfitness
      @DEFYfitness 6 днів тому

      Ideally wait for the doc's recommendation. I mean what's another 2 weeks in the grand scheme of things. However, if you really must, you can always go into the gym and lift SUPER light to almost go through the motions. See how that feels after and the next day and then VERY incrementally go up from there next session. But this paragraph, you didn't get from me. Lol

    Hi Jaycee, thank you for your videos! I had my hernia surgery 3 weeks ago at Shouldice, all is well and I'd like to start exercising/ stretching/ going to gym again. I stopped back in May when developed my hernia. Question: are there any exercises or stretches I should avoid? I'm happy to see that you are doing planks, I'm wondering about stretches like upward facing dog yoga pose, or ab crunches. Thank you!

    • @DEFYfitness
      @DEFYfitness 11 днів тому

      With all exercises or stretches, I recommend doing an ultra east version of it first and see how it feels in the moment and how it feels the next day. Assuming it is all ok, then try it again but making it more difficult. See how it feels in the moment and then next day. Keep repeating this process until you find your "pain point". Keep gradually pushing it just slightly every time you go back to that exercise / stretch and you'll find as you heal and get stronger, you will be able to gradually progress back to 100%.

    You say your left side pulls and has pain, do you think that contributed to your development of a right inguinal hernia? I am considering shouldice and I felt like stitching the abs together has to have SOME drawbacks

    • @DEFYfitness
      @DEFYfitness 6 днів тому

      I don't think "stitching the abs together" contributed to the development of the right side as tissue has quite a bit of elasticity and ability to stretch and get stronger. I think it just has to do with a genetic deposition as it runs in my family.

    • @CK8652
      @CK8652 6 днів тому

      @@DEFYfitness okay I noticed during the video you said you were imbalanced after the muscle repair, which led to discomfort in your back. I am considering shouldice and wondering what the true drawbacks are as docs are saying mesh with expert surgeon is just as good and much quicker recovery. I prefer no mesh but wouldn't mind lapro incisions...

    • @DEFYfitness
      @DEFYfitness 6 днів тому

      @CK8652 I believe the imbalance was more due to me guarding the "injured" area. Similarly to if I sprained my ankle, I would naturally use my healthy leg more to guard the injured one and create a temporary imbalance.

    Thank you for sharing your experiences and I know what you're all going through. I'm not bothered if anyone believes what I'm about to say here, and I could well be trolled or even censored, however I am going to dare to share my own experience. I offer the following advice for free to any hernia sufferers with an open mind, and a willingness to temporarily change their lifestyle until healed, for a gaurunteed recovery without surgery. This isn't a joke. Firstly, trust me when I say that all the advice you have been given here so far, whether dietary, physio or otherwise, from doctor or sufferer, is totally incorrect and will not work, because the problem is that toxins are trapped inside the intenstines, and in effect have destroyed the abdominal wall. These toxins must simply be removed to allow your body to heal from it the proper and natural way. This will work for sports hernias too, which arent even really hernias at all. I am almost completely cured now from a very severe inguinal hernia, right side, around the duodenum, where the large intestine meets the small intestine. It has been a horrific experience, and life threatening if I was to be overactive when it was at its worst. My method was a combination of 2 things; firstly realising that the human need for food is an illusion, in fact diet is the cause of all illnesses, especially with our lack of knowledge when it comes to fluid diet. Secondly, on the subject of fluids themselves, our bodies being 70-80% water, juicing and/or purified water is the ONLY way to cleanse the body from toxins (cue cognitive dissonance for most of you). Hence, my method, the only natural method, was doing long pure fluid fasts. My longest was a 35 day solid food fast - so no solid food for 35 days, whereby I drank between 4 and 8 litres a day of home juiced (masticating juicer) ginger root, melon, beetroot, turmeric and many other fruit juices for pleasure during fasts, however ginger and other root juices clearly seemed the most potent for cleansing the intenstines. This is quite notable when you begin detoxing, without being too graphic. There will be other detox symptoms too, and they are nothing unbearable compared to hernia symptoms themselves, but just trust that your body is simply dealing with the removal of toxins whenever you feel these symptoms flare up during juice/pure water fasts. Purified water as a staple is essential to top up the quantity to at least the 4 litre a day minimum requirement for this therapy. How you purify it is up to you. Before anyone asks, I do not wish to discuss any related water "conspiracies" here, nor about the science of it despite knowing it all only too well, as I'd like this comment to stay up if possible. This is just the way it is, and what I did to gradually beat it naturally. I am almost back to full strength now, no longer having to put my right leg "up" all the time to stop the intenstines jutting out the belly, or worse, down the inguinal canal, and all pain is gone, I just get a little pressure when running, and I am even eating more regularly again now, a big relief after all the fasts (it was probably 80 days fasting altogether but broken down into shorter fasts as symptoms finally began to ease). This was my story. It is the only natural way, and ANYONE can adapt to this lifestyle change for a while, if they are open minded enough and want to avoid the ghastly operation, an op which will only cause more problems later down the line, because as always allopathic methods target symptoms only, and never the cause. That's if you can even get whichever country you live in's health system to bother with you for doing an op. Here in the UK, they were close to useless, and at best outright negligent of the seriousness of mine. So I sought another way, with what I'd learned from my overall health journey over the last 6 years, and as always it never failed me. I wish you all the luck in whatever path you choose, and you can take or leave this advice based on your own preference, or cognitive dissonance. I wouldn't wish this ailment on anyone, and just felt like doing my bit to help others. All the best everyone.

    Thanks for the videos! I just came to know im having one on the left side 😮 its 1.3cm direct hernia a small one. Plan to do the laparoscopic surgery, tensed and not sure if i should continue working out or just Quit. The laparoscopic is too expensive searching a country its cheaper if possible. Ive seen all your videos on working out post surgery. Will the belt help to use only while working out ? Im not planning to do the surgery right away

    • @DEFYfitness
      @DEFYfitness Місяць тому

      You can use a belt if you’re working out however I would advise using it only if it bothers you while you workout. In my opinion I found that the belt gradually made my first one worse as the “bump” in the belt wedged into my hernia “hole” and while working out made it bigger.

    • @ibrahimssa7132
      @ibrahimssa7132 Місяць тому

      @DEFYfitness Thank for the reply, much appreciated. Oh ok, it's not that I need to push it in yet it's too small as the surgeon said doesnt bother me in anyway just psychology. But working out can make it worse he says.

    • @DEFYfitness
      @DEFYfitness Місяць тому

      @ibrahimssa7132 yes it could get worse with working out but also could get worse from just daily things like lifting groceries. In my opinion, it’s important to keep your body strong and working out should be a controlled environment whereas picking up groceries and walking with them is less controlled and more likely to make your hernia worse.

    I had hernia surgery in the morning and then they sent me home with a friend that committed to drive me. There was practically no information other than "take Tylenol and use these icepacks." I wish they would of told me I'll feel like desperately needing to pee all day long as I would of brought a urine bottle with me for the ride home. Fortunately I got to keep the thick plastic bag for my belongings and used that to pee in while being stuck in rush hour traffic. Thanks for your site as I had no idea on what kind of exercises to do while here at home recovering from hernia surgery.

    Its nearly a year now since I went to laparoscopic surgery due to inguinal hernia at my right groin , what im notice right now is im feeling discomfort and bit pain but no bulging anymore what should I need to do to relive the pain and discomfort, do I need to wear again my truss belt/hernia belt ?

    • @DEFYfitness
      @DEFYfitness Місяць тому

      I would get it double checked by the doctor but I don't think a truss would be necessary unless you have a buldge. Trusses usually have a portion that "fits into" the hernia area and I personally wouldn't want something pushing into that area. May I ask if there is a pattern to when you have discomfort? Ie after you workout, sit in the car for a long period of time, etc.

    I was watching your video about recovery after surgery at Shouldice Hospital. Are you doing those exercises after your surgery? How much time has passed since your surgery, and you're already exercising-so great! I had surgery over a year ago in Saskatchewan, and it has really affected my life in a negative way, so so bad :( I'm thinking about becoming a patient at Shouldice Hospital and getting the surgery done there. Anyway, I'm really glad for you, man.

      @@DEFYfitness Hey, thanks for checking in. I wish I knew exactly what's going on myself. About 4-5 months after my hernia surgery, I started experiencing pain again. Unfortunately, I relocated to another city far from my original surgeon, so I couldn't see him in person. I called him, but he couldn't pinpoint the issue and advised me to seek help locally. I went for an ultrasound, but they messed up the process-lost the results, then found them later, and it was a weird experience. The doctor at the walk-in clinic told me that nothing on the ultrasound could explain my pain and suggested it would take time to heal. So, I’ve been trying to get on with life, but I always have some discomfort, especially when sleeping on my side or bending over. It's been mentally and physically exhausting, to the point where I had to quit my job because of the frustration. After a few months, I went back to another clinic, but the doctor there wasn't much help either and just told me to call my original surgeon, which I wasn’t keen on doing since he didn’t seem to care much. Now, a year after surgery, the pain has increased, so I went for another ultrasound yesterday. The doctor who sent me for this one will be back on September 10, so I’ll have to wait until then for the results, not sure what to do, probably will go to emergency room and say not going anywhere until you find out what is going on with me :( I think something went wrong with the mesh and I might need another procedure to fix it. It's been incredibly frustrating to navigate this medical system where it feels like patients are just numbers and not people who need real care. I'm just hoping to find a doctor who will actually listen and help me get back to normal. life and not suffering. Anyway sorry for long story 😌
