    sounds about right. I had an epigastric hernia treated at the Shouldice. 1 year later it's as though I never had a hernia

    Your experience matches exactly what I experienced when I was there in October 2022. I too was half awake during part of the surgery and could overhear some of the conversation in the room on and off but did not feel any pain. Post surgery I didn't have any pain or stomach issues, and initially I even thought I would be able make it through the night without painkillers. But later I gave in and accepted a painkiller - just for the first night, didn't need them after that.

      Yeah it's definitely different for all hernia surgeries. My first one I don't even remember walking into the operating room or laying on the table. I just remember waking up in my bed. Lol

    Your 3 days after surgery workout video helped me after my surgery. Played it for 5 weeks after my surgery. I could not do your 2 weeks after surgery video for first 6-8 weeks. Hurt a lot . Same if I sneezed or coughed. That said 12 weeks after, fully recovered. Running weights yoga and skiing. Thanks again for your 3 days after video…but stay away from the 2 weeks after…lol… speedy recovery !!!

      Thanks for letting me know! The 2 weeks after surgery video was just my personal journey whereas the day 1-3 are more of a general public guideline. I have a 21 day post hernia surgery program on HerniaSurgeryRecovery.com that goes through 21 days of a gradual increase in difficulty. Glad to hear you are back to normal activities! 👏🏻😊

    I just got back on monday from the shouldice hospital. I had 2 inguinal hernias done 2 days apart. Was in for almost a week. Nice hospital. If you need hernia surgery, it's the best place to go.

    I had an excellent experience at Shouldice end of August 2023, I didn't experience much pain at all the first day except that I cut back on the pain meds and by the third day I knew that I had to be back on full meds. Food is fabulous, the nurses, doctors and staff are wonderful. The grounds are just beautiful, basically a very well tended park which is great for recovery which is walking and a physio session everyday. I followed DEFYfitness hernia exercises after I left the hospital at the beginning of September and they really helped. At the beginning of November I went to a physiotherapist to continue my recovery, this included some scar massage which helped a lot. I also returned to the gym but followed a very light regimen as advised by my physiotherapist.
    Coughing was very scary and yes it hurts a lot.

    Great videos! Thank you for making them. I’m planning to try to get in soon. This helped a lot! Do they not suture the site on the outside? It didn’t look like it from your video. With the side fully healed can you feel the inside sutures if you touch the area? Are the inside sutures metal? Does it fell natural once healed or is there any tension or tightness? Thanks in advance for your time!

    • @DEFYfitness
      @DEFYfitness  4 місяці тому +1

      You're very welcome! Thanks for watching the videos!
      The inside layers are sutures. 2 layers, to my understanding with metal sutures. The outside layer is clipped and heals quite well. When it heals you can feel a ridge but after about a year or so, it does flatten out. When I press firmly I can feel a slight line but otherwise it feels pretty normal. I have a bit of tightness but seems to be fairly "normal" around the 4 months mark (for me).

    Thanks for the videos! I just came to know im having one on the left side 😮 its 1.3cm direct hernia a small one. Plan to do the laparoscopic surgery, tensed and not sure if i should continue working out or just Quit. The laparoscopic is too expensive searching a country its cheaper if possible. Ive seen all your videos on working out post surgery. Will the belt help to use only while working out ? Im not planning to do the surgery right away

    • @DEFYfitness
      @DEFYfitness  Місяць тому

      You can use a belt if you’re working out however I would advise using it only if it bothers you while you workout. In my opinion I found that the belt gradually made my first one worse as the “bump” in the belt wedged into my hernia “hole” and while working out made it bigger.

    • @ibrahimssa7132
      @ibrahimssa7132 Місяць тому

      @DEFYfitness Thank for the reply, much appreciated. Oh ok, it's not that I need to push it in yet it's too small as the surgeon said doesnt bother me in anyway just psychology. But working out can make it worse he says.

    • @DEFYfitness
      @DEFYfitness  Місяць тому

      @ibrahimssa7132 yes it could get worse with working out but also could get worse from just daily things like lifting groceries. In my opinion, it’s important to keep your body strong and working out should be a controlled environment whereas picking up groceries and walking with them is less controlled and more likely to make your hernia worse.

    Hi, i will be going to shouldice to get checked out and book a surgury date. Is the operation for inguinal hernia painful. Do you feel pain during operation. What kind of medication is given to put you out. I have never been put to sleep. Is the pain bearable after surgury?. Thanks in advance, just worried, never had any surgery.
