An excellent rendition of this fast aria, which of course expresses not only anger, but actually a complicated blend of emotions. To my opinion, only a person who could do better would be entitled to criticise PhJ´s singing or Haim´s conducting in this, and obviously none of the "clever critics" here does. Of course, some people are so frustrated that they try to feel better by finding errors in everything....
Haïm, la musique qu'elle produit est parfaite. Et c'est une TRES belle femme. Philippe c'est la VOIX; le reste est secondaire.

@vitellia That is still the most furious I have seen him, so far. He is improving as an actor. But it is sure that his timbre will always be a problem in this kind of arias. He cannot convince anyone that he is upset or evil. That is not in his nature.
That castrati sound is not something I would die for....

Benz hexol as much as I like PJ, I do not think he would be able to sustain a messa di voce for one minute or perform pieces as Amor, dover, rispetto which were written for Farinelli and the castrato used to fill with even more embellishments, judging by the surviving sheets.

Although you have to remember that people went to see Castrati perform these operas, whom generally were reported to have had terrible acting skills. People just wanted to hear nice sounds, and he certainly brings us those! (I still agree with you :) )

Not fair on Haim. A conductor has a very hard job. (S)he has to read all the music for all the instruments, and put them together so the music comes together, all those different melodic lines and accents That requires being expressive in ten ways at the same time, so everybody can follow you. As a musician, or a singer, for that matter, you need that lead. Give me a clown, a dancer, a jumper and a bouncer any time, I'll follow. A good conductor(or singing teacher) lifts you up above yourself.
@vitellia I agree. His voice lacks the power for Rinaldo, certainly in such an aria as this.
Ce n'est pas un chant Castrats mais un contre ténor à ne pas confondre. Les castrats avaient une voix encore plus haute et féminine. Pour les critiques quant à cette prestation ; il est le seul pour le moment à pouvoir rivaliser avec une soprano qui joue habituellement le rôle, donc ... relativisons ce qui peut éventuellement vous gêner : une voix d'homme même aussi haut perché que Jaroussky ne peut rivaliser avec une voix de femme soprano qui remplace les vrais Castrats.
I like him, but I just don't think he's a great Rinaldo, despite the fabulous coloratura. I'd prefer Rinaldo with more punch in his voice. The same goes for his Teseo (from "Arianna in Creta") whose difficult music he recorded with Maestra Haim. He might wanna consider Alceste from Arianna; his "Son qual stanco" would be spell-binding, I can only imagine.
hmmmm sa cadence habituelle. un petit changement au tout debut du da capo mais ce n'etait qu'un effet sans lien aucun avec le texte! on aurait peu l'imaginer tenter de seduire les forces que son personnage est sensé tenter d'invoquer. C'est vraiment dommage... Meme si la qualite de chant est la.

I don't like it! Surely he sings well, but the colour of his little voice is terrible, not at all for aria di furore like this.

italianoperafan he's good in singing, but he has such an annoying timbre... he doesn't have a good falsetto. He's very precise with the coloratura, but his voice is too feeble and sounds false. Fagioli, Scholl or Rexroth are way more pleasant to the ear.
