What poisonous comments. It is wonderful to see and hear young and good musicians, who know they're good, simply enjoying making music, and so giving extra to their audience. Purcell would have delighted in their efforts. Yes, they have hammed up his work, but with SUCH STYLE.... Probably as an encore. Is it the counter tenor voice your cannot cope with? Manhood threatened?

Sowas ist natürlich immer Geschmackssache, ich persönlich liebe es, wenn man Musikern und Sängern die Freude an der Arbeit ansieht und nicht immer alles bierernst durchgezogen wird (anlassbezogen natürlich!). Und ich glaube, es gibt kein größeres Lob für Komponisten, wenn ihr Werk nach hunderten Jahren a) immer noch aufgeführt wird und b) immer noch die Phantasie anregt, also lebendig ist!

attribute that to the genius of Purcell. He had both voices weaving in and out and around each other, but one voice doesn't drown the other out. A modern rhythmic interpretation just goes to show that music has no end; it always leaves room for reinterpretation.

I would guess that this was performed as an encore at the end of a concert where the traditional version may have been performed. It was not intended to replace the traditional version but rather a light-hearted rendition which was that was meant to take the audience by surprise. It was the last thing they expected at the end of a concert of serious music and, judging from their applause, they enjoyed it, their surprise only adding to their enjoyment. In short, it was not only very clever and well-performed but, boring old queeny perfectionists take note, intended not to be taken seriously but funny - which it was.
