I was a vehicle tech for 34 yrs, I did a proper RTITB apprenticeship in 1980, I got City and Guilds and also a Btec in motor vehicle engineering as well as an IMI, I worked for a family garage in Windsor Berkshire for 6 years before moving on to main dealer dross!, My mentor at my apprenticeship garage in Windsor was an old guy called Bob who liked me and took me under his wing and he worked previously in the army as a mechanic towards the end of WW2! When de mobbed he got into car mechanics, He was a renowned Austin 7 engine specialist, He taught me so much about car mechanics and bench work, He could fix any problem and back in those days we were working on Morris Minor's, Mini's, Maxi's, Allegro's, Escort's, Cortina's, Rovers etc, Baz has the same work ethic that was drilled into me, Do it once and do it right! I love Baz's content as he shows viewers how to do a job right! The guys a pro 👍

You're absolutely correct, if that bearing doesn't sit in exactly the correct position the feel will be awful. I had a brand new (2022) Kia CEED that had to have the clutch out because the release bearing fork wasn't sat exactly as it should be due to a slightly rough casting. It came back feeling completely different and it cured some vibration and rattling from the bearing. The main dealers were brilliant and said the faulty part was only very slightly out of shape.

I've been an automotive diagnostics tech for 35+ years and forgotten the amount of customers who have bodged their own cars trying to save money or got their mate Dave to do it and then blame a garage when it goes tits up,or genuinely get a garage to do a job but then when faced with extra cost or delay through needing more parts, will happily ask for or demand a bodge to get them going again. I have caught out plenty over the years when they have blamed other garages and mechanics that I might personally know, rather than confess to their own fk ups.Generally the worst stuff I regularly see is part exchange stuff from a dealer pal, cars with no clutches, fkd transmissions, turbos, smokers, leakers, misfires, death rattles............. and even downright dangerous stuff that the customer part exchanging ' wasn't aware of'. But it's always easier to blame the dealer. Its incredible how people bitch and whine about little insignificant things on used cars, the sort of things they can claim for free under warranty stating how important that one particular niggle is to them, while disregarding the fact that it's ten years old and 1/10th of the price of a new one,but funnily enough if they had to pay for those 'niggles' themselves the car would still be like it the day they sold it.The general public are no more honest than your average car dealer, especially when it comes to spending money,to think otherwise is laughably naive, the many ridiculous and dangerous requests I have received over the years from private owners and dealers alike are an endorsement of that fact.

I had the timing chain done on my 1 series BMW not long ago got back everything seemed fine then a week later the car developed a weird vibration had a look underneath and there was only one bokt holding the front flex disk on to the propshaft and that wasnt tight 🤦
Spoke to the mechanic and after a few messages he admitted they must of forgotten to torque them down and basicly said we all make mistakes.
I drove 50 miles to that garage as they were meant to be BMW specialist and were meant to garentee there work for 12 months, they wouldn't even cover the cost to replace the bolts that had fell out.
It's completely put me off going anywhere to get work done had nothing but problems with garages near me as well, at this point I'd rather try learn and do the work myself.

Baz uses the word "lazy", but I would add on "stupid" ! Problem is that as cars age and get worth less and less, their owners tend not to be all that well off, and hence are less and less able to spend money on repairs. Cars depreciate in value, but the spares don't !

@@phaeton_buggy1575 yeah well done mate, it destroyed the clutch because of the bodge, if it's off by being too far back it will burn the clutch every time it is used, if it's too far forward it will burn the clutch every time it's in gear. My point is with the correct set up it will last. I'm talking about Baz's work. Not the fool driving the car. So don't be one of those twats who sees lifetime guarantee on a tool and says, I'll see about that. Grow up. It's very clear that the last mechanic was useless and doubled that clutch replacement cost for that customer, . I wonder will you fall for this, I bet your clutch will last more than a week. The worst is stainless into alloy, it looks nice on custom jobs but the inside reaction can be horrendous so use copper or nickel anti sieze. I did my time on landrover/ rover cars and up to series 3 and p6 rover used some green coating on threads and once the tension was off the spring washer you could usually undo stuff with your fingers unlike now.

Why do you not tell us WHY you must disconnect the negative terminal first from the battery , I do not see any difference

If you remove live first, the bare terminal post is a shorting risk (to engine or body). If you remove neg first, there's no similar risk. In practice it doesn't really matter, but doing it the foolproof way is a safer habit.
