      ' everyone ' is the correct word
      Diagnosis Dan cannot diagnose that as he is linguistically totally clueless
      He does not understand the concept of ' one '
      He still needs to take English language lessons.
      The question then becomes : Is he teachable or not ?
      Not knowing is ignorance --- which can be remedied
      Refusing to learn is stupidity - there is not any remedy for that symptom

    I had exactly the same thing on a BMW X3 I bought cheap. Local mobile mechanic replaced DPF, it blocked again so old owner took it to the main dealer who said the turbo was dead and the head needed a lot of work. I found the hole, cut off the retaining band where it mounted to a hard pipe and pushed it on another 25mm. New Miclaor clamp and it was as good as new. The boost pipe had been rubbing on the coolant fan for some time.

    I'm surprised there wasn't a boost pressure code. My bet is that issue was there before the previous dpf failed and forced regens with too much soot in the old dpf cracked it. Cleaning is always better than forcing a regen when the pressure is too high! Sometimes people reset the learned soot values to make the vehicle regen when in reality it shouldn't be doing.

    As an aviation mechanic , it was very refreshing to see an auto technician use a logical approach to diagnosing the cause of a problem and not just the symptoms. I do have a question for you though. Why did you not look for TSB's on the symptoms before you started all the troubleshooting? It seems that checking for the TSB first could have helped you reach the solution faster.

    • @deerhunter8533
      @deerhunter8533 Місяць тому +1

      You still need to diagnose the cause. Proper diagnostic procedures is the most important step for a successful repair and should always be your first step of the repair procedure. Cars are not like airplanes. Every system in a modern car is computer controlled

    • @That_Stealth_Guy
      @That_Stealth_Guy Місяць тому +3

      @@deerhunter8533 I wasn't suggesting that you shouldn't have done all the other steps to verify that the problem the TSB indicated as the most likely root cause was indeed correct. Especially the cleaning of the DPF system and verifying the pressure sensor was operating within parameters. I was just curious about the order in which you did them.
      Cars are more like modern aircraft than you realize. For instance the F-22 Raptor can tell the mechanic that there is high iron and nickel content in the engine oil which is a precursor to bearing failure. Not to mention the various other sensors for coolant levels, fuel , hydraulic oil levels, etc..even the length of time a relay takes to activate all are monitored by multiple redundant computer systems.

    What a difference in service compared to Australian dealership. My Mitsubishi Triton MQ 2015 2.4L 4N15 my RPM is dropping b 625rpm every time I come to a stop and then quickly comes up to normal rpm 650. Same when idling with AC on, AC clicks in rpm goes up, AC clicks again rpm drops to 625 an then quickly goes up to 650. I have no trouble codes, tested all seniors all good.
    I bought a smoke machine to test for vacuum leaks and found that the EGR has a leak at the hole used for atmospheric pressure to allow the diaphragm to go up and down. Tested the EGR with vacuum tool and it does hold pressure but has a leak when test from the intake. Purchased new EGR, and had the same leak, ordered another and the same leak. So bit the bullet and booked it with the dealer$hit and I told them what needed to be fixed and that the car has no trouble codes, they said diagnostics are done on a Thursday. Went to the dealership and sat there for half a day but they only looked at car for 15 minutes. Result was it has no trouble codes but we updated the computer, that will be $200 thanks, paid the bill got into the car only to find the same problem.
    When back in and told them it's still doing the same thing, they said maybe it could be the EGR or valve adjustment, the quote was $1850. Not paying $1850 for a maybe.
    Can anybody confirm if the EGR leak is normal as I can't get a confirmation from any dealer and the internet has mixed reviews.
    My EGR has vacuum operation and electronic built into the same unit.

    One of the most common causes I've found of dpf high frequency regeneration is the intake pipe leak.... experience has came to find usually the pipes split when the dpf gets blocked to the point the car struggles to start or doesn't and the back pressure and intake pressure meet and blow out. Often tend to find the dpfs block up due to oil leaking from the turbos, which is typically caused by poor and infrequent oil changes is usually the biggest cause of them blocking up..... always great to have ddtsb though dan.... like in terms of precisely.... Great Diagnose Dan: As an Automotive TAFE Teacher, I told all my students: Before you reach for the scan tool, LOOK AND LISTEN, UNPLUG AND REPLUG CONNECTORS. It is amazing how many times this fixes an Issue, finding the CAUSE ,as you state.

    • @Diagnosedan
      @Diagnosedan  Місяць тому

      Unplugging connectors before reading faultcodes is not the best of advise in my opinion. Unplugging connectors could set faultcodes that have nothing to do with the cars issue and send you down a Rabbit Hole.

    I have connected an indicator light to the rear window defroster. During regeneration the light comes on and I continue driving until it goes out. This way I have a complete regeneration in one go. This takes 10 minutes. This is a very useful solution for those who drive short journeys. I do this on Stellantis (PSA) cars. I don't know whether other brands also switch on the rear window heating during regeneration. Stellantis diesels use an additive 'Eolys) to lower the regeneration temperature. From this I conclude that other brands that work without Eolys also switch on the rear window heating to achieve the desired exhaust gas temperature.

    Hi Diagnose Dan, trust you are super well... love watching your videos.. I have an issue with my car - VW Tiguan 2020 TSI. I have checked with numerous VW dealers and other Mechanics and still no one can find an issue. In the morning on cold start when turning left at a stop has a noise that sounds like metal that is loose / dragging. As I said you here this when the car is at a stop then taking a left. I have not heard anything when the car is turning right. The noise is more prominent when turning left up a hill. Shocks, struts, bearings, links and sway bars have been checked. Nobody can find any issue. This is only heard in the early mornings on cold start...

The diesel market in the diesel community is finally catching up with all of the extra cats and everything else that are put on all the cars and the trucks and everything else and now all the little problems are now finally showing their ugly little heads and all the codes to come with it and everything goes in limp mode. If you get stuck out on the road, you’re kind of like upper creek without a paddle going nowhere thank you again Dan.

    That's great you had that bulletin. It helped show the damaged hose. (Not Enough Air)
    I started to think blocked air filter or air inlet, but without a Mass Airflow Sensor reading, it makes the diagnosis more difficult.

    Looks like Dan spent a couple of hours on the fix and, to my mind, it wasn't a 'come back' job but I know from my time in the business that the customer will say it is and that the Service manager will write off the bill as a goodwill gesture. That cost would then be deducted from my bonus at the months end and this is one of the reasons I retrained and left the motor industry. Best decision I ever made as, for the first time, I could afford to buy and run new cars rather than patching up other peoples cast offs.

    I usually look at MAF and Turbo pressure, if I have good MAF and lower than usual boost pressure that means the air is metered and escapes between the turbo and intake. A leak and as this is already metered with the MAF the ECU gives fuel for that metered air, but the engine in reality does not get that air so we get rich mixture (black smoke).
