    Final update: this little reel is the little engine that could ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxSlytCJqozTF7EbdP4LWP-HUXf9WRDJ0e . It performed flawlessly and was easy to adjust drag in the moment while I was battling a 35lb bat ray behemoth. Mind you, this reel is spooled with only 25 lb braid and 25 mono topshot. It's paired with the kastking telescopic heavy power rod and the two work well together. This has now earned my respect and confidence when traveling and fishing. If you have ever hooked into large rays and sharks, you know they pull extremely hard and can run forever! This thing clamped down on the fish and was easy to adjust during the fight. It has a nice decently fast retrieve as well. Twice the fish went on mad runs and I was able to gain back line quickly to avoid spooling.

    So I have a short jig rod combo. I'd like to retire the stick... move reel to popping rod. Then either run this set up , or rod with talica 16 or new 20 think jigging for hours late at night is possible with that 20? In the past I've been a victim of flip and rip. I need to control jigs on the way down to get more bites. I love jigging!!

    Would you think the Penn 16 VSX would work on this setup instead of the Talica 16?

    If I wanted that same blank; all I need to know is it’s the 450g?

    I’ve seen the Palomar finished two different ways. (1) with the final loop seated at the highest point of the knot/ against the tag end and (2) with the loop seated across the knot base/ touching the eye of the hook. How do you prefer capt?

    would you say with conventional vs spinning, that conventional reels you are fighting the tackle - keeping the reel positioned up vs the spinning reel you can keep it down. conventional are more cumbersome in my opinion. but interesting information

    Do you recommend the OJ4000 with the 4.4:1 gear or the 4000HG for tuna around 150-200lb class?

    What type of connection was used to connect the 40lb flouro to the mainline?

    • @OnTheWaterMedia
      @OnTheWaterMedia  2 роки тому +1

      It's a loop to loop connection with the wind-on leader and the hollow-core with end loop.

    Really handy. That gear is similar to what we use here in New Zealand. Primarily on kingfish anywhere from 8kg to 40kg. Interesting that nobody uses swivels here.

      As matter of fact a video by a deck hand says DO NOT attach the split ring to the swivel . He says the swivel will fail under the twist and mega pull pressure . By the way Capt didnt mention the size of the swivel and the brand , it was so tiny but strong .

    • @MrEli204
      @MrEli204 Рік тому

      @@Ninurtha1I think there are just as many people who say tie to the solid ring as there are people who say attach at the split ring. Like all things fishing it’s based on what you were taught and personal experience.
