Thanks so much for tuning in and for the comment @JiggingTV! Really appreciate it. RIGHTTTTT???? Gotta love these reels shimano put together... And the smoothness... its like reeling with butter... haha Thanks so much for the comment and for you tuning in... really appreciate it... I see you also have a youtube channel, I'll check out some of your videos! Hope all is well and your getting on some great fish!!
Super informative. I actually never got into the Shimano reels... but I might just have to. It's great to have a seasoned and knowledgeable fisherman that can offer up so much experience and information. 👍
haha your the best Eric!!! Thanks so much for all the continued support!! Really appreciate it... and yeah let me know if you need some help picking out a great reel for you!!
The Gomexus seems to be better in every single way, expesially the price. The Gomexus is a lever drag, which some people don't like, but I prefer it for fishing from a boat or kayak. Is there something I'm missing about the Shimano? Also, that reel is $280, not $500+.
Hey Tedrutkowsky... Thanks so much for the thoughtful comment... I have to be honest and say I have never fished with the Gomexus and so I can't (honestly) say if I think it is better or worse than the Shimano Ocea Jigger... but, I will definitely ask around the crews I fish with and dig into it a little more. Have you also fished with the Shimano Ocea Jigger and you just didn't like it?? I honestly don't hear too many complaints about the reel... Again, I have never fished with the Gomexus and so you have me really intrigued here. The Ocea Jigger is SUPER expensive, there is no doubt about it, but I will say if you buy it from the Japanese directly on Digitaka you can get it for around $280... How long have you been fishing with a Gomexus? Really curious now... haha Thanks so much again for the comment. I really appreciate it... I'm always up for learning something new ;) Hope you had a great weekend.
I have a Gomexus and honestly, it’s an awesome reel. Very smooth with powerful drag and it’s been very reliable for me. The only thing I don’t like is that the braid can sometimes slip between the spool and the body of the reel and you have to pull it all apart to fix it!
@officialWWM I think I'll have to test out the Gomexus reel... sounds like a really good reel. Yet to fish with it though. Thanks for the feedback though, when you get your ocea jigger you'll be able to compare them! Be curious for your thoughts on the two reels! Haha thanks again for the comment
@@Johnnyfishalot I’ve just ordered a second Gomexus reel. I’m going to put it on a bottom fishing rod. It’s very hard for me to justify the extra money for a Shimano unit. I’d love one but it’s just too expensive for me right now.
Cool video tks for the detailed info. Need some advise please, in the market for a speed jig reel. I fish in greece so no real monsters like in the states. Curious if i go for high or power gear, one has torque and leas retrieve vs the opposite or how does the torque work on high gear? And due to weight thinking the 1500 instead of the 2000.is the drag enough for jigging (noticed the 1500pg has one pound more vs the 1500hg). Meantime, any comments for the okuma cavala or the fin-nor primal jigging reels? Of course any other recommendation is appreciated! Cheers from athens👌🙏🤘
Hello @kostinioagelinio8577 Thanks so much for the great comment, for tuning in, and for the great question. Typically the way it works is the higher you go in gear ratio the more torque you give up... I wouldn't worry at all about a 1lb difference in drag when your dealing with 15lbs / 16lbs of drag (that is a lot of drag), especially if your not fishing for really large wreck fish where you have to lock out your drag to get the fish out of the structure. You'll be good with either drag capacities. Your spot on by giving the weight of the reel your consideration, bc during a long day out on your feet in the sun jigging all day those few ounces in weight starts to make a difference in your fatigue. I fish with the 1500 PG and 1500 HG and they are both great reels, however, I will say the PG has more versatility than the HG in that it does offer good speed, but also gives you the tremendous torque if you do hook into a big fish in some strong current or want to fish a significant depth with heavy weights... The real advantage of the HG is if you are fishing for VERY fast fish like a tuna and the fish hits and swims at you and you need to make up line very VERY fast to catch the fish... But, honestly in most situations the increased torque of a reel can be used far more comfortably in more (versatile) situations. As for the Okuma Cavala or Fin-nor primal jigging reels I have never used those specific reels before, but have used a variety of other Okuma's and Fin-nor reels that were very Very good... However, I think if you were to purchase the Ocea Jigger you will REALLY REALLLLLY like it ANDDDD if you would like to save some money on the Ocea Jigger to make it more close to the price point of the Okuma and FIn-Nor I'd recommend purchasing it from Digitaka in Japan... I actually have a video on how to do this and maximize your purchasing power from Japan... I think the Euro right now is 159 to 1 yen, so your looking at MASSIVE savings there.... The company is great (I am not an affiliate or anything for the company), but they ship within 5 days and offer a ton of deals and you have pure Shimano (Japanese) fishing products... I have bought a ton of stuff from Digitaka and have not been disappointed. If your not after large explosive fish that swim a million miles an hour like a tuna, I'd suggest the Ocea Jigger 1500 PG and I'd suggest getting it from Digitaka to save a ton of money... I hope this posts helps you out!! Let me know if you have any further questions. Thanks so much again...
Hey ! You said you used this for tog fishing so I wanna buy this for SPJ but also want to see how well it does tog and sheepshead fishing too. How did thst work for you and what setup?
Hey MouaFishing... thanks so much for the comment and for tuning in... I absolutely love this thing for tog... just caught a few big 10 pounders (3 in a row) right before the season ended here in NJ. Works like a dream. Never caught a sheepshead with it, but if this thing can handle a big taug in a VERY sticky wreck it can whip a sheepshead. For Tog I'm either using the HG or PG 1500 (I would prefer the PG for bottom fishing (like tog where you need the extra horsepower) and HG for faster speed jigging (amberjack, tuna, etc). For Tog I use 65 pound high viz braid (any brand honestly, but I was using spider wire and suffix on my reels), with a 60 or 65 pound fluoro top shot. Rigged to a slip rig or stinger rig (5/0 hooks) and 10 oz of lead for high current at 65ft depths. I often use a custom rod, but do like using the shimano trevala's, teremars, the tsunami slow pitch jigging rods are great, AND of course the Jigging World Black Demon Jigging Rods. Always happy to help, let me know if you have any additional questions or comments.... Thanks so much!!
Hey @g0ldf1sh65... Awesome!! So glad to hear you got yourself an Ocean Jigger, I hope its working out great for your. That nob your talking about is called the "spool tensioner" or "spool tension nob" This device helps you control how fast the line comes out of the reel when you are dropping or casting... I hope this helps. Thanks so much, again, for watching and the comment!!
Thanks so much Gerard!! Really appreciate you tuning in and the comment!! Yeah its a really great feature, but not sure how well that is advirtised on the reel... So glad you found the information valuable. Nice!! Good luck with your purchase. Let me know if you have any questions.... thanks again.
Hey Yair, thanks so much for watching and the comment/question. To answer your question directly.... absolutely to both... However, I would say its not really designed for casting long distances from the beach... while I have seen many folks use custom rods on the beach, if they have to get lines way out there (shark fishing for example) they will usually use a boat or kayak to get the lines way out there... if your fishing like that, where a lot of line is being placed out to sea from the beach I would say go for it.... but, given the price of the reel, I'd say your better off with a much cheaper spinning reel set up for casting from the beach. As far as mono goes... sure thing... You can absolutely put mono on this reel, for line recommendations it really just depends what kind of fishing your doing... If you need a lot of shock absorption to your line then mono is best, but if your looking to get a lot of line on the spool with increased sensitivity for bites, then braid is the best... Hope this helps... let me know if you have any further questions... thanks so much for tuning in.
@Yair thanks so much! Yeah my pleasure answering questions and helping you catch more fish! It's the whole purpose of the channel! I hope your enjoying the content! 😉 let me know if you have any additional questions
THat's a great question... honestly I have not used the ocea jigger XG or MG versions. I've only used the HG and PG versions and I can tell you the situations I use the PG I actually want the extra power and torque, so I don't need a slightly faster reel with less power (that would be the MG) nor have I needed a faster gear ratio than the HG (that would be the XG). I think the PG and HG is really good and if ain't broke don't fix it... that's my opinion without using the XG and MG... I will also say, I have used other reels for deep drop fishing with very VERY fast gear ratios and I've always thought they were horrible because the strain caused by heavy weights and deep depths I was fishing (again very fast speed means much less torque/power)... if using any form of significant weight like tile fishing or some fish like that I always prefer the slow gear ratios and more torque (so PG is for me)... If your catching an explosive fish like a tuna that has the potential to run straight up at you that would be where I would use the HG, but I have never needed a faster gear ratio that what the normal HG reels offer, plus for a fish like that I still need some torque on the fish when I'm reeling, so I don't really want to sacrifice any more power/torque for speed, its plenty fast so I would want the extra power... Again, those are just my opinions... How about you??? What's your thoughts on the higher reel ratio on the XG vs HG?? or MG vs the PG? Have you seen a major positive difference in your fishing going to the XG or even MG for higher speed? The thing to remember is (generally speaking) as you increase the speed of your reel (ratio) you will decrease the power... and vice versa. I hope that helps you make a decision on your fishing reels that best suits your fishing tactics and preferences... Thanks so much for the thoughtful question... I love talking fishing. Thanks again!!!
@@Johnnyfishalot yeah there is actually something different in the 2021 version that make up for less torque… infinity drive and micromodule gear II, to my knowledge the older versions ( pg and hg) dont have those options… Infinity Drive (2021 XG): • The 2021 XG model includes Infinity Drive, which enhances cranking power under heavy loads by reducing internal friction. This is a significant improvement over the 2017 model, giving the 2021 XG superior power despite its faster gear ratio. MicroModule Gear II (2021 XG): • The 2021 XG model also benefits from MicroModule Gear II, which offers smoother and more efficient gear engagement, further contributing to better cranking performance under load.
@@Johnnyfishalot i still doing my research before purchasing i decided on the 1500 size but i still havent decided hg or xg , but with the newer features i am leaning towards the xg
@MBahnassy you know what... if those modifications include tech that still increases torque, but your still getting the fast/faster gear ratios then yeah I'd go ahead and get the XG. keep in mind I haven't used the XG, but if your not giving up torque for speed I'd say that's a great option 😉 I'd say go for it!! Let me know how it works out!!
Thanks so much Ken... I really appreciate it. So glad you found the info valuable. I agree with you, really is a great reel. Thanks again. Let me know if you have any questions. Thanks.
Sorry @shinkizer0 I checked the audio on my end and everything seems to be working.. audio is fine for me... have you tried a different device? Or had any other problems with other videos?
Thanks so much for the comment and for tuning in... we do use offshore spinning gear as well... these days that spinning gear is super light and holds a ton of line as well. I guess it just really depends on the gear your using and how you are fishing. Thanks again... hope this helps. Glad you enjoyed the video... I do have to say spinning or conventional very few reels are as good as this ocea jigger it is one of my favorite reels by far!!!
Haha I hear ya... that is an awesome, but expensive reel! Don't worry though I'm working on a video right now that will save you hundreds in future reel purchases 😉 just give me a few days to edit haha... its coming soon!! Thanks so much for all the support and for always tuning in!! Always appreciative!
@@Johnnyfishalot it’s absolute beast of a reel that worth every penny, but I hate having a 300$ reel just sitting there collecting dust. I was actually considering getting the OJ low gear for deep wrecks but you had a good point here in regards to the retrieve rate. Thanks for the amazing content as usual!
@@bebocarbon Heyyyy... I love all the feedback, thanks so much again for your comments... I would say this... A lot of this is up to personal preference, as is everything with fishing, IF you are just looking to deep drop with heavy weight down to deep wrecks a slower gear ratio with more power may be what you are looking for... if you are jigging with a lure and you need to catch up quickly to a fish that massacres your lure at high speed... that's where you need the high gear ration (the HG) version of reels... I fish 300ft rockpiles for seabass withh 2-3 pounds of wieght and I use the PG styles of reels for this as I need the extra power to deal with all the weight and the fish... The OCEA Jigger comes in both, so it really just depends on your fishing application... Best of both worlds is that Talica (WAY MORE Expensive and for TUna though)... that reel comes with both PG and HG gears, so you can switch between the two... I hope that helps... and I didn't confuse you.... hahaha let me know if you have any questions... I'd hate to see you spend 500 buck on a reel then it not be right for the type of fishing your doing... Avet and MAXEL make WAY more affordable versions of these reels for deep dropping by the way... good for striper trolling too, as you typically don't need speed for that... anyway... again, hope that helps.
Really informative video. I was looking at a saltiga but I think I will get this instead. I was wondering what pole you would pair it with for tautog fishing on wrecks
Thanks for watching Mark, never said you should lock the drag and test ripping off the handle, but the well built feature of the handle is very reassuring if you do have to turn up the heat... Used this reel to horse big black fish up out of wrecks and it works like a dream... thanks again for watching and the comment! Appreciate it.
What are you talking about?? Did you watch the video? And yes I can compare different shimano products together when discussing how they are used... there is much more to reel than just its drag capacity... thanks for the comment...
haha yessss absolutely, it is very expensive if you buy this in the USA, however, if you buy from Japan is its much MUCHHHHH cheaper... There is a way to get this reel about 30 - 40% off though... I actually made a video about it... you can check it out here if your interested... ua-cam.com/video/DPL7Vl5r9Og/v-deo.html
@officialWWM ahhhh I gotcha... yes, I agree with you these reels are very nice, but getting more and more expensive... crazy. Give digitaka a shot and let me know what you think. Hey @ausableangler not sure what you mean by "I'm lying" I clearly highlight both the pg and hg reels... I literally have a chart and I'm circling the exact information you put in your comment... Shimano is the standard, and nothing is wrong with that. My first spj reel was an Ocea Jigger 2001RNG new for $335. Thanks so much Ken... I really appreciate it. So glad you found the info valuable. I agree with you, really is a great reel. Thanks again. Let me know if you have any questions. Thanks.
Is it me or is the audio messed up? I cant hear anything.
Sorry @shinkizer0 I checked the audio on my end and everything seems to be working.. audio is fine for me... have you tried a different device? Or had any other problems with other videos?
Great video, but you can never compare a spinning real with that real they will never even close.
Good stuff as usual! This reel is so damn awesome I was figuring out a way to sell my Komodo 463 I use for deep tog fishing to get one 😂
@@Johnnyfishalot Thank you for sharing your amazing knowledge. newbies like me totally appreciate it!!!
Really informative video. I was looking at a saltiga but I think I will get this instead. I was wondering what pole you would pair it with for tautog fishing on wrecks
Change the audio channel to mono. It's only coming out of the right channel.
Thanks for watching @none76ui.... not sure I understand, though. Something was wrong with the audio??
The handles strength isnt enough for that heavy drag...😂😂😂😂😂😂😂. You Americans.....
Compared to a 3k spinner 😂 and don't compare to a Talica with 40lb drag
What are you talking about?? Did you watch the video? And yes I can compare different shimano products together when discussing how they are used... there is much more to reel than just its drag capacity... thanks for the comment...
These are nice but they are very expensive!
haha yessss absolutely, it is very expensive if you buy this in the USA, however, if you buy from Japan is its much MUCHHHHH cheaper... There is a way to get this reel about 30 - 40% off though... I actually made a video about it... you can check it out here if your interested... ua-cam.com/video/DPL7Vl5r9Og/v-deo.html
@@Johnnyfishalot thanks. I’m in Australia, so it’s even more expensive here!
@officialWWM ahhhh I gotcha... yes, I agree with you these reels are very nice, but getting more and more expensive... crazy. Give digitaka a shot and let me know what you think. I think best part about that company is they offer seasonal deals, way less expensive reels, and they ship to your house within 5 business days (from Japan!) Haha hope it works out for you! Let me know if you have any questions. Thanks so much
@@Johnnyfishalot thanks, I checked it out and it does appear to offer some great savings. The only problem I found was you need to be very clear which model you want cause they don’t have much info on their site about the differences. I need to do more research before I place an order. Sadly, it seems. Like they don’t sell, the one model I am really wanting (Daiwa 18 Saltist 50h)
@@officialWWM Yeah that is true... you do have to know what you want to buy. And yeah they don't sell everything... but, the fact that a store overseas doesn't sell everything is usually a good indication that they are legit. Just quick tip if you do find yourself shopping on overseas webpages. Let me know if you need any more assistance with the reel purchase. Def a big purchase, well worth the time to figure out exactly what you need and want.
You're lying on your video. I can see the reel stamped with 1501PG which only has 31in per turn. They also only offer this reel in LH retrieve overseas unfortunately.
Hey @ausableangler not sure what you mean by "I'm lying" I clearly highlight both the pg and hg reels... I literally have a chart and I'm circling the exact information you put in your comment... I clearly state I own both reels and I like the pg for bait fishing and big fish like black drum that need some torque and I prefer the hg for fast speed jigging or fishing very deep water, so (again) not really sure where your coming from... i also called the stile king valient eagle the strike king sharkey iii in the video... just fyi.. Also, if your looking for the 1501 left handed reel all the more reason to watch to the end of the video, where I direct you to another video featuring digitaka, where you can save hundreds on this exact same reel.
Lol. If this channel was ‘shimano official’. Would be a big lawsuit
Out of sheer curiousity... why would there be a lawsuit for a youtube video focused around reviewing a fishing reel?
Hows these clowns in the comments.. these reels get put through their paces over here in aus SPJ and hold up against 35lb fish if you know what you're doing
Thanks so much for the comment @islandhopper7224 Yes I agree with you... the only thing I think of is the price point throws some people off??? That's really the only thing I can think of, because I agree with you... The reel is simply amazing. We've thrown that thing at everything and it always holds up great!! Love this reel... even did a video about how to get the reel cheaper from Japan to help some folks out... Thanks so much for your comment and for tuning in.
Shimano is the standard, and nothing is wrong with that. My first spj reel was an Ocea Jigger 2001RNG new for $335. After I decided I loved slowpitch jigging, I switched to Studio Ocean Mark Blue Heaven OTA Garage L50Hi/L S2T hands down the best spj reel on the market. That being said, nothing is wrong with Shimano price point. lol
@@bringit3164 Definitely good value for money, I live on the Great Barrier Reef one of if not the best fishing ground in the world! me and my mates put these reels through their paces and I've never seen one fault when used properly. Most of us use the 1500HG on pe3-4 rods from islands to the reef and they punch well above their weight.
You don't know wtf you are talking about. Ty for trying
Hope you find something you like Ken... good luck fishing!
