Yo, I watched this video when it premiered and and a week or two later I was on a 2 day and it paid off. No lie, triple digits cow, night time on 400gram knife jig. I had my lined marked at 100ft lengths (when I had it spooled). When the captain said 350-450 in the water column, I kept jigging up and down (in the target zone) till it hit me on the retrieval. @@kingofslotsmillion3263 yeah the megalodon 609 has been a pretty hot rod lately that everyone wants for jigging 80lb to +150lb bluefin tuna. And I believe it’s rated for 300g - 500g jigs as well which is perfect for what size jigs have been producing these last couple months
I do not, all he mentioned was getting an aftermarket handle. Eric said there will be a recall on the handles in the future, and anyone who purchased a Torque will be able to get a free replacement handle from Penn
Marking the line is the more efficient way. A lot of people get rainbow line or pre marked line. If you have a reel you need marked that is just plain in color, what I did with mine is stretched out my line across long parking lot and measured out every 50 feet. At every 50ft, I’d leave about a 5” black mark And every 100ft I’d do about a 12” bright color with 3” black mark in the middle.
@@KhangHo16216Jsh if you do the marker idea, make sure to use fabric marker instead of sharpie. I did it with sharpie and I can tell it’s already fading.
Can you run the night jig with the C609 with the Penn 40N 2 Speed? Or 60N ? Which Avet reel would you recommend for same rod. I ask cause I’m left handed. So options are slim.
The 40N or 60N are both great options, either will work. Avet's however have a thicker reel foot making it more difficulut to use on proper jigging rod reel seat. Cesar is recommending another option, a bit more pricey but another option, is the Accurate BV800N SPJ Left handed
His rods, the blanks are discontinued but are called the 3 kings jigging rod. The set up he’s recommending is a Phenix Megalodon 609 paired with a Penn Fathom II 2 speed
Most of the time with the bite guard leader of flouro, people will have pre rigged leaders with a crimp to a swivel on one end, and a crimp to a ring on the other end. This way, all it takes to connect your jig to that leader is a split ring.
Good info, the only issue I have run into is when these guys are on a big tuna for hours on a sport boat and the school is gone. Also, those short rods wreak havoc when getting around the bow or over other anglers. I don't think these Rods and light line is well placed on a sport boat with 30 other anglers. Private boat I think they are great. Just my observation so far when one of these little rods show up.
The short rods definitely do add a new difficulty of getting over people or the anchor for sure. But not necessarily fishing super light line with jigging rods. 50-60 lb during the day and 80-130 lb during the night, is the same line rate that most people are fishing on traditional gear.
Happy to share! He’s definitely right though! I’d much rather lose the fish right at first hook up and be able to still be in the zone knowing they’re there, instead of losing them at the boat after however long the fight it
Nothing online for Richwin lures, but I know they’re sold at Erics tackle, Richards tackle, Kens custom reels, Anglers choice, Island tackle, and Seaforth landing. Rods were Megalodon 607 and 609 Reels were the Penn Torque, but I can’t remember 100% what sizes
Everyone has their own personal preference. The top shot just provides a little extra give and absorption with headshakes. While hooked up with such a heavy lure, that addition stretch from the mono top shot reduces the amount of the jig getting thrown around and in theory helps reduce that chance of the hook shaking free
Megalodon 609 and Penn Fathom come out to about $350 each I think off the top of my head. So maybe about $800 - $850 total, depending on what line you get
