Final update: this little reel is the little engine that could ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxSlytCJqozTF7EbdP4LWP-HUXf9WRDJ0e . It performed flawlessly and was easy to adjust drag in the moment while I was battling a 35lb bat ray behemoth. Mind you, this reel is spooled with only 25 lb braid and 25 mono topshot. It's paired with the kastking telescopic heavy power rod and the two work well together. This has now earned my respect and confidence when traveling and fishing. If you have ever hooked into large rays and sharks, you know they pull extremely hard and can run forever! This thing clamped down on the fish and was easy to adjust during the fight. It has a nice decently fast retrieve as well. Twice the fish went on mad runs and I was able to gain back line quickly to avoid spooling.
By chance, was that Diawa Reel the Saltiga SAGLD35 model? It was hard to tell. That is the one I am chasing now but I want the 2 speed model to have a chance at getting the grouper off the bottom. Maybe he was showing a single speed model? Also, I found the brand rod was called Hearty Rise. I have the Diawa Harrier rod also in my sights to go with the Saltiga reel.
@@jerrykozak3865 Tokayo is the brand (Hearty Rise). 600 for the rod and 600+ for accurate Valiant 500 2 speed, 1300 spooled. I had a Truth (now called Seigler) and hated it, never right from day one so sent it back and they did nothing so I gave it to a guide buddy to play with. The Accurates are hard to beat.
@@fishbluewater In your video description you stated people are using SPJ for swordfish. "However, avid SPJ anglers are tackling everything from snapper, grouper, yellowfin tuna, and SWORDFISH on SPJ gear with great success. " I just wanted to know more. Thanks.
Excellent excellent video 👏👏👏👏👏. Can you please post the name, specs and cost of the rod and reel that was selected for you for the deeper depths? I am new to slow pitch as well. Do you do international sales? I am in Trinidad in the Caribbean.
Accurate spj 300 for under 600ft spj 500 n if over 600ft. Temple reef makes 3 great choices depending on your budget. Biggest factor how much do you want to spend.
Hey man nice video thanks for makin it, gave me CONFIDENCE in my slow j setup! I think that was the ingredient i need. BTW are All married fisherman such sissies? All are scared to let their wives know what they bought lol. I work at a B&T shop in Longneck Del and I hear that statement Daily lol. Thanks again for this video
I always thot it was just me and I was jigging wrong, with vertical jigging. After like 3 drops for real, the sweat pouring outta my pores like a faucet.
Great question. I don’t think that’s a factor whether you are right or left handed but I would contact Reel Deal Bait and Tackle Pompano Beach for confirmation
In terms of the way you jig, is there a different way to jig when it comes to micro jigging or is the only difference the depth of water. I’m on the east coast, I’d like to try this with fluke and bass fishing from depths of 80-150 + feet.
I have not experimented with the micro jigs yet, however, the concept is the same so I would not expect the technique to change. I would recommend you reach out to the crew at Reel Deal Bait & Tackle in Pompano Beach. They will likely have some good insight for you.
I slow off if nj 3 to. 4 times per week. Concepts hold. I use micro as well as jigs upto 280 grams. My go to us 112 and 135 most of the time. I pulled 3 striper less then 2 miles out over 35lbs on them just last week. Was dropping out at the rock pile in 180 to 230 caught so many black sea bass and blues i could barely reel anymore. No exaggeration if i lifted more than 3 times thought something was wrong.
I've got the Tokayo (Hearty Rise) SJ3 Power1 with an Accurate 500 narrow spool 2 speed, sweet combo. Have three of the Accurate 2 speeds, when you drop into low gear it reels so easy you'd think the fish got off. The Ocean Jigger (gray one with the slow fall lever) is a really nice reel also ( heavier than the Accurates), paired with a Poseidon custom rod is a pleasure to fish.
I have the following Saltigas: LD55 2spd, LD40 2spd, LD35 2spd, 30HA star drag, 10H star drag. Which would be best for the Megalodon PE 6-10 that I just bought?
I would go with one of the two speed lever drag reels. Match the size and weight of the reel to the weight of the rod. If you are going to be deep jigging make sure you go with a reel that gives you plenty of line capacity
lol because that has anything to do with being competitive. I’ve spent 30 years competing in fishing tournaments. If you want to throw your hat in the ring, Pompano Beach is the spot.
Would probably want to stick to shallower fishing with that reel or scale down to a lighter braid in the 20 to 30 lb range. Does not hold enough line for deeper jigging
Nice video... that explain how the fishing style much more exciting to do.. f you have old slow jigging reel can i have it pls, 😊😊 i do fishing but only shore casting , really wanted to try jigging and cought decent size for a living.... thankssss
Can you advice please what is the best set up size for deep jigging 200 to 300m deep . Using jig size of 300 to 400 grams max. And what size of braidline need to use. . Thank you so much
I'm new aswell but I ordered a Shimano Ocea Jigger F Custom from Japan. I spent $380 on it. Not sure if you want to spend that much but I figured wth I might aswell get one of the best reels at a great discount.
I am trying to find info about this tackle shop but can't seem to find anything. I would like to stop there. I would appreciate any help. You have done a really good video. Thanks
Once you go jigging, you never go back. When I lived in Japan and Korea, every fisherman uses jigging rod and reel. I can’t believe america is like a decades behind most countries out there.. great video!
I'm right hand dominant. When bottom fishing I've always used a Penn Senator type real with a right hand crank and the butt of the rod tucked under my right arm. I just bought a slow pitch rig with a right hand crank and it feels totally wrong. I've sent the reel back in favor of a left hand crank... I'm wondering what most of you are using if you're right hand dominant... Never seems to be addressed anywhere....
