I'm a 65 year old woman and I enjoy gaming. I love the fallout series, morrowind, oblivion and skyrim.
You should try Witcher 3: The Wild Hunt it beats Morrowind, Oblivion and Skyrim in every possible way.

These are some great games. There's more games like these or similar coming, like The Wayward Realms, Light No Fire, War Of The Worlds, Star Wars Outlaws, Nightingale, The Lost Wild, Jurassic Park Survival, Instinction, Ark 2 and some more!

Because the people who run these places at the highest level don’t want them to maintain any good level of brain function, let alone fix and/or reverse it.
I say run, let me say fund* because I’m sure their actual hand in the specific businesses is either extremely lazy or not there at all.
So I am going to be a dissident voice. I work in the field of psychology and I'm going to tell you the video games and television and all of those electronic entertainments have shortcomings. They do not teach long chain thought. It's all about instant reaction and instant gratification. There are 2 types of thought process. There's long chain thought-that would be like reading a novel which is following a thought process through to it's conclusion. I know there are people out there who are going to say "Yeah, well video games hold you for hours and hours." There's no reward benefit. There's no internalizing it. You are simply watching something cross the screen hopping up, tapping it getting something from it--a small dose of dopamine and moving forward. So I honestly don't believe video games are good for people. I think they are waste of your time. And you have nothing in the real world to show for all of that wasted time. Video games become an addiction for most people. I see people who play video games 8 10 12 hours a day.I honestly know people who have had their marriages break up because they wouldn't interact and they would not even take care of their own children because the video game became more important. So I don't believe for a moment.That video games serve any real purpose in life. People play them because they are missing something. They want to fight nazis or they want to be physically active and they want to do all of these things but they don't want to put the time and energy into it, so they become that person in the video game instead, imagine how much more healthy and more beautiful the world would be if you Were actually doing something real to impact this world physically.
My parents hated me playing as a child, but the lessons I gained were priceless as an adult.
For parents that have a child who plays video games, I recommend two things.
1. Play the games with them like one of their friends. They will remember and cherish those moments for life.
2. Tell your child they must complete the game or hit the “X” level before getting another game. This will focus them on learning to grind for a reward vs just getting it.

I am a management consultant in my mid forties and I just started gaming again (thanks to Xbox Cloud), my partner who is a 'creative' used to try and shame me by saying grown men do not game... I stopped playing PC games towards the end of the pandemic - I can't wait to tell her Elon Musk plays games to unwind and settle his mind!
Gaming was there for me when no one else was, I work and I'm a full time dad. we game together and it has strengthened our bond :)

Me and my son played Demon's Souls. He loves Legendary Tales VR and a bunch of other games. The one that is memorable for me is, It takes 2.
All depends on what ur playing. Some games leave u with a sense of fulfillment like reading a book and some leave u feeling like you just gambled all your time away. Realizing this has changed my gaming experience in a very positive way.
I agree. There is also the issue of over stimulation with a lot of these games. Spending time in nature is more healing and helpful to calming and distressing the mind.

@@matthewbushey5103 Thanks for asking. Im pretty basic so i love legend of Zelda (TOTK specifically rn) but everyone is different. The Zelda/ super Mario franchise is what got me into gaming so to you id recommend recalling what got you into gaming and if there’s a fresh new spin on that idea. Look into it indie developers as well. They’re devs hungry to make a splash into the gaming world and it results in some amazing games like Hollow knight.

@matthewbushey5103 the legend of Zelda breath of the wild, horizon zero dawn, far cry 5, undertale, limbo all gave me a sense of fulfillment. Some games absolutely feel like time wasters to me, mostly the shoot everything types.

I remember working with a couple of women over the years who just could not comprehend how someone could enjoy playing video games but would sit in front of the tv for 40 hours/week. These days I try to only surround myself with people who are less judgmental and more accepting of people for who they are. Fortunately for me, my wife plays some games with me and supports me in everything that I do.
I just wrote something similar. The women that don’t understand it, aren’t neutral, they hate it.
To me, it bothers me why do all people (at least here in my country) spend all day sitting in a garden bench doing nothing. They get up around 6am and can spend all day sitting there doing nothing. I can only think about being retired to play games hahah

i always think its funny when someone talks sh*t about video games or rather I get "i read books" with a condescending tone... but video games are literally interactive books with art... people are stuck in 'their' mind, if they dont do it than its not good, but in reality the video game industry makes more than the film industry. people get great hand eye4 coordination, and the brain is constantly stimulated.... so many people are idiots, ones that game are usually less so.

I'm 55 and have been gaming since the Atari. I had a stroke in 2016 and gaming helped me get my eye/hand coordination right again. Taking on the DS series, Bloodbourne, and ER has helped a lot.

I'm 37 and have been gaming since NES and Sega Genesis. Now both my kids, 10 and 5 are into video games. It sure helps with cognitive development, problem solving, and creativity. My son shows great potential of being an architect by playing building games, even inside Roblox. Playing videos games sure has helped to make friends at work and other settings based on this community that has been around for years, even when others would say it would rot our brains and we'd never amount to anything. Like Vin Diesel says in xXx "it's the only education we got".
I was in a bad accident almost 15 years ago now. It left me partially blind, half crippled and a lot of chronic pain. I fell into a depression. I got more into gaming because I didn't want to deal with the world and it was people I met in WoW of all places, that brought me back from the brink. Thank God for games and gamers.

I’ve heard nothing but negativity from family and friends. My whole life. That video games are for kids. I’m 49 love games more than ever. Even better now that I can afford to buy these games. I’m a good hearted person make a good living and it doesn’t harm anyone. Why not enjoy gaming.

It’s a recreational activity. I don’t get why that’s so hard for some to understand. To me it’s more engaging and interactive than passively watching something. I’m 40 and it helps me get my mind off things.

I'm a 63 year old Male. Been Gaming since the early 90's with my sons. It lets me go, and do, things that I would never experience in real life. Now, having V.R. in my living-room is simply amazing. Gaming is a good thing. Just make sure to get out and do activities in the real world too. Exercise, etc.
You should try Conan Exiles. I'm 46 and been having a blast playing. That or Valheim both extremely fun.

I might have a different opinion though if I had played Conan Exiles in VR first instead of flatscreen. That's what happened with me and No Man's Sky. Played the VR version first, now the flatscreen just sucks for me.
61 year old female here, been playing games since the 80's when I had an Oric Atmos.... thankfully it broke down and was replaced with a zx spectrum, I've always loved puzzle's and exploring.... Settler's on my Amiga 500+ was so addictive and I just loved the little guys coming out the castle to build stuff. I'm currently playing the remastered Tomb Raiders on my PS4......Game with most hours played on this machine is Dragon Age Inquisition..so so good.
I can honestly say I've had many a strange glance from women my own age for pretty much my entire gaming life... not so much these days though which is a good thing.
I am 71 years old and have been playing Gaming started to play back in 84-85 like Colico, and play just to have fun on the console and have 3,000 hrs in VR racing. Good video thumbs up

Agreed! I am 50 and enjoy games. With that said the quality of games we can play now on the go with systems like the Nintendo Switch and Steam Deck is not lost on me. If you went back in time and showed high school me a Nintendo Switch or Steam Deck my mind would have been blown.

Thats the issue, the stigma is is that gaming is for kids when in fact that is far from the truth. most games are adult rated and the average gamer is 35 years of age.
This is true. Most of those complains comes from people who doesn't play games. 😂 Why should anyone trust a person's opinion if that person had no real experience with it.
You can't knock gaming anymore. It's the premier and most efficient form of digital entertainment. Makes me laugh when people try and mock playing videogames, yet themselves sit for hours watching soap operas or superhero movies. Gaming provides just as much if not more fun than movies, allows you to socialise and chat with friends and meet new people, and requires skill and interaction. And it's much cheaper. People who knock gaming, are just out of date and uneducated in modern living.

Some games actually train your mind to solve puzzles, it is not just mindless hack and slash anymore. In story telling games it brings people to see things they've never thought of in a different perspective. Games that teach people resource management. Sometimes you get into this zen mode playing it helps relief you from your everyday stress. The outdated stigma of video games is not relevant anymore. It is only a problem when a person lost their ability to prioritizing their real life issues over entertainment. It is not video games to blame but their own. This could happen in any form when a person cannot prioritize their life.

I am 63 years old, began gaming on console in 2008. I moved to PC about two years ago. I play a plethora of games and completely relate to the discussion. I have an arthritic hip and gaming has become my primary recreational activity. Don't worry, I have added time for a physical regiment. Additionally, there is no doubt that gaming forces me to work out my eye hand coordination. I think the mental benefits, (especially for seniors), has yet to be fully explored.
Gaming has done something like this for me. It was at first a major hindrance, until I spent years away from it getting healthy in mind, body, spirit and financially. Now it helps calm me when I'm having issues or allows my mind an escape so an answer comes smacking me in the behind.

You hit the nail right on the head with this segment. I went through a bad divorce a few years back and the thing that really helped take my mind off going through all that mess was playing Resident Evil 7 Biohazard.

Agree totally. Video games, board games and tabletop roleplaying games are some of the most engaging activities you can engage in. I play with my children all the time.
I’m 41 and been playing since Atari. I remember my friends and I used to dream of playing each other from our homes without having to go to each other houses. Though we enjoyed passing the controller to the next person if we lost. But it was fun! And now you CAN play and connect with people all over the world who shared the same emotions in the same games. And some have even become real life friends. Whom I’ve met up with and know me more than others. Good games and good vibes man!
Edit: and now my children and I even play games together and share moments. It’s beautiful
I am an OG, started in 1975 and still play video games daily. There are many things at play in video games, interaction, concentration, strategic thinking and reflexes are required depending on the game. Gaming has taught me ecnonimics, logistics, geography and many more things depending on the genera you are into. Video games have bad rap because of the shooter games that have violince killing other human avatars. Even twitch games requires fast thinking and physical fittness to excel at them. I find, I sleep better when playing a couple of hours of gaming before bed time. Enjoy the hobby!

My entire life revolves around maximizing my available time to play games, including early retirement and massive downsizing.
Despite popular believe I do not do it to fight demons nor am I 'addicted' anymore than anyone else is when doing something they enjoy doing.
Heck yeah! I stasrted at around the age of 5 with Pacman and pinball machines in 1982!
I'm an OG gamer too but I've moved on to VR games. It's a new frontier of gaming with far more immersion.

OG here started in 76 with pinball machines! Loved playing those, then pong came out and my dad bought one for me and my siblings to play when the weather was bad outside. We would have champion matches the entire family would team up and play together! Ahhh those were some great gaming times! Then of course the advent of the arcades in the 80's! I can see the black lights and hear all the sounds of those arcades now. I grew up playing and I'm not going to stop playing videogames, they 100% have given me enjoyment over the years!
I’ve played since 83 when I was 2-years old, when I got a Sinclair Spectrum as a present, and I haven’t stop playing since then. One could say I was born as a gamer, and because of this playing games is like breathing for me and I cannot understand why someone doesn’t want to play them, as for me games are the best form of entertainment and art
I relate very strongly to this, as this was around the same time I started playing and haven’t stopped. In addition to what you said, the cost to value of video games is excellent compared to most forms of entertainment.

I'm an almost 58 (next week lol) registered nurse, and yep, people are judgmental about my gaming. Currently I'm playing Enshrouded and Palworld lol but I play an assortment of lots of genres'. Even got my mom hooked and she's nearly 80. Love your vids :)
I had a severe traumatic brain injury when I was 9 years old, which left me with damage to the left frontal lobe of my brain. I had always loved to play videogames but after the accident, I actually used videogames as a way to rewire my brain. Videogames really helped me to gain cognitive function back. I am 40 years old, was unable to get disability even though I qualify for it. But yes many, many people (family, friends, coworkers, employers and church people) all have had a problem with videogames and me playing them, telling me that I am wasting my time when I could be learning something useful. This is useful to me, I can't help it. I have ADHD as well and this helps me greatly in many aspects. A dementia preventative, focus, dopamine, cognitive and critical thinking, reflexes, and hand eye coordination to name a few. I have had employers deny me employment because I told them during the interview that one of my hobbies was videogames, they thought I was ridiculous even though I was qualified for the career. Either way, no regrets! 😁
Absolutely Clayton!!! I'm 27, havent stopped since age 5 and I'm not gonna stop. Apparently binge watching TV shows is acceptable for adults but video gaming is not, even though most Triple-A games now are Mature 17+. It makes no sense
That's the simplest Intelligence test: assuming that something is only for kids because they saw 1-2 games and those were for kids ;-)
Gaming is my relaxing reward from hardwork.. I'm more comfortable spending time in gaming treating it this way and more advantageous.
Video games are special. They’ve given me experiences I wouldn’t have had otherwise. They’ve sharpened my reflexes, improved my strategy, and have pushed me to think outside the box. I love experiencing a new world, and learning about it, and the story within it. Video games are an amalgamation of different entertainment outlets.
My dad never understood video games until he watched me play rdr 2 for hours
I had this experience where I played through Read Dead Redemption 2 on my Twitch stream. My dad has been a cowboy his whole life. When I got to the end of that game I was moved so emotionally that I had a stoic cry with my stream and it was a powerful experience and cherished memory. I'm tearing up just thinking about it. I was able to share that story with my dad and got him into watching my Twitch stream (there is a ton of emotional distance between us) and it better connected us.
My dad is 69 and loves playing Halo 2.
I love that games can connect us across so many spectrums. I remember reading that carvan shooters (now called shmup or shoot'em ups) (super popular back in the last 80s by companies like Hudson soft) and one of the reasons why was that children and adults could compete in a level playing field and often because the kids practiced more they could show their skill to their parents (very much Asian/Japanese culture)@@Syzygy77 I'm working on a carvan mode for my game Interstellar Sentinel and in part I think about this history that we all share in gaming. It's super cool.

💯 This is why the souls genre is so popular. I'm just about into my forties and it blows me away that gaming is becoming a pop culture pastime. My whole childhood was dominated with video games being associated with nerd/geek culture and shunned. It really is great to see.
Now we need to convince the community to stop pre-ordering games. To hopefully stop the half finished 2 year delayed games. That and buying digital only.
If we had renting digital copies. Cool. If it's worth the money I want a physical copy. Stores and developers are pushing heavily toward a, "you'll own nothing" type of world.

I used to be into fishing, but then I developed thalassaphobia (thanks Jaws), and eventually the paranoia of getting a hook in my thumb just made me give up the hobby. Fishing in games though, I could do for days on end.

You've gotta understand a lot of the people who hate gaming either have bad memories of it like a big brother who played it for hours, never let them play and xp for themselves and beat them every time so as a result they hated gaming.
Or they are people who like just watching movies or TV Shows but never interacting or engaging with it. Coz that's what video games are (especially these days), interactive cinema. Which is why ur far more likely to fall asleep watching a show or movie than u are playing a video game.
Some people don't like being in the drivers seat, they just like to live life passively in the passengers seat and let others have the real fun.

I'm 55 been a gamer since i was 14. Made many friends through the hobby. Currently squishing bugs in Helldiver 2 with 3 friends and having a blast!

I have a PhD & I've always played video games -- thus, if I am compelled to explain or justify why I would choose to spend my time playing video games by some dubious individual, that person is likely to receive a highly informed answer from someone trained to be exceptionally arrogant & condescending in the delivery of said answer.
Anyhow, aside from all that nonsense, I would say Gran Turismo 3: A-Spec (2001), Grand Theft Auto III (2001), Romance of the Three Kingdoms VII (2002), Viewtiful Joe (2003), Rome: Total War (2004), etc., ...these were all pretty momentous & elevating games for me. What a video game could be was beginning to grow tremendously. For example, outside of JRPGs, it was easy to get lost in a video game once my ongoing conquest of Europe was at stake! Before then, I mean, playing 8hrs of Madden or Mortal Kombat...(?) That's not fun... A couple of hours at a time, maybe; but, that's what most video games offered up until the turn of the millennium, imho.
my mom always hated me playing games all the time but i always told her its where i felt at peace. Every person needs an activity that can stimulate their mind the way video games do. I always come back at people that say games are bad that tv is much worse since your just sitting there mindlessly watching.
It always boggled me even as a child that 'watching TV' was more valuable than playing a video game. I'd often get told to read a book instead and it would confuse me because video games often were 'books' of the new era. I'd be playing story driven RPG games and experiencing those. Not that I didn't read novels either, god I love books.
It's ultimately just a bunch of insecure children in adults bodies whom don't have any real hobby of their own and fill it instead with mindless telelvision/media. Realising that helped me to accept my hobby is okay as long as I do not cause harm to other people with it.
I’ve been gaming since I was 4 and I’m 33 now. I’ve been slowly divorcing my long time hobby because I recognize the amount of time I’ve wasted NOT acquiring new skills, not learning a language, not reading books, not spending time outside, not spending face to face time with my wife, and many other things .
These games have a time and place, but most young people should be getting educated and learning new skills rather than gaming all the time. If I could go back, I never would have touched a game console outside of rare situations.
Here come the flood of arguments I know. But you simply cannot disagree that wasting time on video games, TV, smartphones is what is stupefying our nation.
This is because our real lives have been governed into suckitude.

Warframes a serious addiction.. It devoured me for years when I had started again after a 15 year hiatus from gaming.
Chrono Trigger introduced me to RPGs. And the The Division 2 was my first looter shooter - awesome music and set pieces. I went back and played the first one, then replayed the second one lol.

It started as a "kids" thing. But all those kids grew up and many of them made better games. Now here we are, reaching two generations that grew up with games and view it like how the family would gather to build a puzzle or play a board game.
Gaming is also become a form of therapy. When i worked in a hostile work environment for almost a year, I would come home after a 10-12 hour shift and jump into No Man Sky and get lost exploring the infinite galaxy and in Valheim building a castle from the ground up. I wouldn't have traded it for a person and a couch.
Some will never understand, and that is ok. But it doesn't take away the benefits, and I've been able to stay in contact and play games with friends I've made around the world that no longer live in the same neighborhood.
I would have been dead without gaming, and I wish that was exaggerated. I suffered severe, crippling depression in my late teens and early 20's where I would literally be in bed all day, sleep 16 hours, I would pile up dishes on the end of my bed etc. It was about as bad as it could get.
I always had my online friends, and they never judged me, expected anything of me, or let me down. Now I'm a nurse who graduated at the top of my class and I'm working towards specializing in mental health so I can do my best to help others. Met my wife playing a game as well.
The research on how it promotes healthy brain activity and reduces instances of dementia are very encouraging, and I believe there will be many more positive aspects when we've looked at the data.
I'm 75 (a retired network techie) and have been playing video games since Wizardry came out on the PC in 1981. Since then I've played every major PC title released. I still play 6 to 8 hours a day. MMOs, single player, survival, world building, RPG, etc I love them all. I believe it keeps my mind sharp because quick thinking/decisions are what gaming is all about.
Not all games. I for one became way too lazy with games and always striving to be in my comfort zone.

I used to game a lot when I was younger. Final Fantasy, Fallout, Dark Souls. Took a break from it all for about 6 years to focus on my spirituality. I recently picked up a mobile game on my phone and the kid in me loves it. So happy to hear that the negative judgement surrounding video games in society is lifting to an extent ✌🏼

I can say that those who are quick to judge have never seen/played video games. They offer a break from reality. I love video games for the gameplay but what I love just as much is the music. I always think of video games as movies that you have take part in. I still don't understand why there are still some people who think video games are for kids, but they have no problem with movies even though it's almost the same thing nowadays,and in many cases even better than movies.
Yes, some video games are like interactive movies. I play when I want to be directly involved in the story or action or puzzle , I watch a movie when I'm lazy and just want to relax. People who say games made for kids are uninformed, unintelligent and close minded.

I've been gaming for decades since I was 7, won a gaming tournament when I was 17. The only criticism I have about gaming is if you play it obsessively to a point where it hinders your productivity or grades, or when you use it to escape a reality you should be dealing with. Some games can be incredibly addictive depending on your inclinations and what you have going on in your life. I stay away from some kinds of games and have to "parent" myself, sometimes even regularly uninstalling them.
But that's more a me problem than a problem with games. Apparently the most productive man on the planet plays videogames too, so, playing games and being productive are not incompatible.
I got fascinated by arcade games in 1980 or so. Played Pong and its variations, Scramble, Time Pilot 84, Commando, Pole Position, Pengo etc. I got those electronic lcd games like Donkey Kong, Snoopy and Green House back then.
Later on I got to play with my friends C64, MSX, Amiga games. Later PC.
My first console Playstation. It was a wonderful machine. Still got one in working order.
Built my first PC in 2001.
Recently been playing Gran Turismo 7 and Virtua Fighter 5 on PS5. Revisited Fallout 3 yesterday on PC.

Games like Chrono Cross, Legend Of Mana, Sea Of Stars, am Playing Star Ocean Second Story R on switch now, Listening to The original music score, the visuals, storytelling, pacing, gameplay - it’s a masterpiece. Sometimes I just let the music play in between the dialog because it’s so transcending, like it feels more than just a game.

I have made long lasting friends through gaming, MMO’s are socialising for me with like minded people. Nothing better than disappearing into the Fallout world, it’s a shit ton better than the real world we live in 😆
If you're in a difficult place, where everything in the "Real World" seems out of control, diving into to a game for period of time where a person can be "in control" may have a positive meditative effect.

Yes, some people think games are waist of time, and it's for children only, because they are not open minded people and perhaps they luck intelligence.
There's actually quite a few mental benefits from playing videogames. I also studied psychology some time ago and back then I theorized it could be used to prevent or delay degrading mental disorders like dementia. And a few years later... there was actually some research that indicated as such. Basically, a huge contributor to those disorders like dementia is the lack of brain activity. Old people often don't do much and what they do is usually very repetitive, which puts them at high risk for developing a mental disorder like that. Videogames can keep the game active in a variety of ways. Fantasy, imagining, calculating, puzzling, hand-eye coordination, etc, all of it is healthy for the brain.
And yeah, games can also be pretty calming and reduce stress. Though honestly... if I'm stressed I don't play a lot of videogames since I have a hard time enjoying them. So basically they're best enjoyed by me when I'm already kinda calm in the first place. I usually also do prefer games that offer me somewhat of a challenge. Back when I was a teen and in my 20's I often preferred very challenging games, but now that I'm a bit older I do tone down the difficulty slightly. So basically instead of very hard I play on hard instead, though sometimes I do still go for something very challenging (Resident Evil 4 remake on professional in less than 5.5 hours with limited saves really pushed my limits. I forced my way through in a short timespan because I knew it wasn't going to happen if I didn't do that).
I'm 68 and had to stop working 20 years ago due to back injury - my son introduced me to gaming and I loved watching him play - when Skyrim came out I was in awe and wanted to learn how to play it. It was a very painful process for my son! But after many hours of perseverance I got it .... best thing I ever did, now I play every day. My latest games are Horizon Zero Dawn and Forbidden West, also Hogwarts, Avatar is now downloading on my new pS5; gaming has saved my sanity! My grandkids think I'm awesome for playing, my generation that I know just don't get it

I remember being a kid and spending entire summers playing games like Fable II and Fallout 3. Some of my favorite memories.
Others may argue this fact, but for me fallout 3 is my favorite game ever made.

I used to hate HISTORY back in school.
But when I started playing historical games that covered different eras (e.g. the total war series, panzer general, silent hunter, etc.) -- I began to love history.
I was a video game hater as an adult. I started playing Ghost Recon a year or so ago and began to try to wrap my head around gaming. Then I started playing Conan Exiles on a private server. It's been almost a year playing and I must say gaming with quality games has been a game changer for my mind and body. Not only is th emersion a welcome aspect of RPG but you should have seen how I was able to defend myself from an attacker in the the street in real life. The guy tried several times to hit and tackle me but was unable to. Because I have been in stressful situations in Conan and had to learn to be calm so I could process the information and not die. I went into a state where I didn't have to think about the attacker. I just had to be aware of my situation and how to move my body in order to not get hit. It was badass, and yes, I got it on camera lol.

Clayton as someone who SCUBA dives and plays games, i strongly recommend Subnautica. It's a futuristic singleplayer survival (the survival part is easy) game where you crash on a water planet and have to try and get off it. You spend 97% of time under water and it's BEUTIFUL, the sense of scale and depth is amazing. You gather resources and build underwater habitats and improve your gear so your could go even deeper because there's a mystery you stumble upon...a good one :)

I’m 29. Been playing video games since I was 5 back in 2000. I can proudly say I’ve almost never skipped a day playing video games to this day. I will always be a gamer and I don’t care what anyone says about it. Video games are at LEAST 50% of who I am. I run a successful Pool Business, I make good money and I game all night. So what! Currently playing tears with the kingdom and I am enthralled with this game. Utter masterpiece.

I love games and have put thousands of hours into games like Dark Souls, Bloodbourne etc. I just don't have time now. In my free time I have to make a choice about what I'm going to do with my time and playing games just doesn't get priority anymore. I've got two young sons who I want to spend time with, my wife, I love making music and I'm studying to advance my career. All those things take up what used to be my gaming time. Maybe once my kids have grown I can be a gaming grandad.
It's great to know someone as intelligent and successful as Elon Musk plays games as a hobby ( a main one at that). Growing up in the 80's games were seen as nerdy and only for boys. Now they are more main stream and an even bigger business than movies and music. Like any other media, it can be good for you or bad, you just have to be smart about it. My whole family are gamers, my wife and kids, my sisters and brother. Even my mum (mobile games) in recent years as when i was a kid, she nor my dad didn't really understand them. I think that's the main reason why people mock, they just don't understand that they're just another form of entertainment. Especially nowadays where there's great stories that can get you emotionally just like movies and music. They get you thinking, they help hand eye co-ordination. You can learn a lot from games that are relevant in the real world.
Honestly its like reading a book. You get lost in fantasy. But with video games you get something just a little more tangible.
Hey Clayton, this is interesting that you devoted a video to this subject. Very cool. I'm a retired 70 year old. I just finished my latest home-built PC. Intel i9 CPU, 16GB Nvidia video card, 32 GB of system RAM, NVMe M.2 drive... The components (the equivalent back then) I could not afford as a young man. I'm working my way through Call of Duty Modern Warfare (remastered 2017 version) right now and I am really enjoying it. I just finished Half Life 2 and Black Mesa. They don't take advantage of my PC's horsepower but they are FUN games! I definitely agree with you and Elon.
I put 240 hours into AC Odyssey. I honestly felt like I experienced Greek antiquity in person. Especially Atlantis, although it was not at all what I imagined it to be (futuristic and so advanced for almost 10,000 years ago).
Downloading it as we speak. Cant beat this sale LOL.
@@thegyrfalcon65 Just ignore the hate it was getting and experience it for what it is, and you'll love it. I enjoyed that game so much, it's hard to describe how gorgeous it is. Oftentimes i stopped mid climb, just to see the little details they put on temple walls or statues.
Just one word of advice, as it might burn you out if you try to finish everything 100% as you go, as the game is overwhelming and huge, and there's soooo much to do on the side, so try to avoid feeling that you're missing out if you skip a side quest or ?'s on the map for time being and just come back later when you feel like it.
Me and my wife enjoyed Odyssey so much, that we booked a flight to Athens and visited all we could, also spent time at the beach :) It was amazing seeing those relics, but much different when i could more easily imagine the cloth decorations, the colors the life...i think Ubisoft for all their faults and fails did an amazing job at recreating those ancient settings, they don't get much praise for that.

Some of the most succesful or educated people I have met and are adults who have proudly demonstrated their gaming hobby wether in person or social media.
I mean in this day and age it is ridiculous judging someone for their gaming.
There might be worrying cases like extreme addiction or a downward spiral of spending or gambling but that might be their way to cope with undiagnosed mental issues like depression or addictive personality or maybe untreated adhd etc. If gaming was not going to ruin their life then it would be either alcohol, drugs, casinos, voting democrat (lol) etc.
I am a 64 year old woman that had two grown children killed in an accident. I play video games because I lose myself in them. It’s the one time I am not thinking about their death it has kept me from losing my sanity
