  • This is a follow up to an earlier video, where I go into a little more detail to try and cut down on some of the common questions.
    If you have a fuel injected Triumph motorcycle, watch this.
    You need an Android phone, the TuneECU app and a correct Bluetooth Adapter:
    App and instructions:
    www.tuneecu.net/
    BT Adapter:(price has gone up since I last purchased one)
    amzn.to/3biNSbX
    Link to the TuneECU Box map database, to help locate what map you need for your bike, country and VIN range:
    app.box.com/s/...
    Link to the modified maps I made for the 2021+ Speed Twin 1200. Map 31127 is for US, 31126 is for UK models:

    I have a 2023 Tiger 850 Sport. If you want to laugh, I highly recommend loading up the Tiger 850 Sport map and looking at ETV 2 (highest of the only 2 modes). Now load up A Tiger 900 and look at ETV 3. The 850 Sport at 100% throttle is mapped to 100 from 0-3500 RPM then it drops off a cliff to 71.3 and even down to 59.1, hovering between those till redline. They marketed this bike as having good low end torque, easier to ride, etc etc...I'm just laughing at this table. They tuned it to look like a half wet noodle. Comparing even down to 12.3% throttle the 900 has higher numbers throughout. Anyways, I am going to be adjusting my 850 sports table to be like the 900 and then give it the beans at the end. Much cheaper then going to a tuner! Thanks for the video.

      It doesn't surprise me. It makes sense from a manufacturing perspective. You invest R&D, tooling and manufacturing costs into one motor, and then in software you create different power profiles for different applications/bikes...

    I FINALLY loaded the tune you made for me! I only got it for a couple mile ride because it’s in between raining here. It definitely feels better up top thanks to richening it up some and adding a bit of timing (I only run 93 octane anyway so it can handle it). Unfortunately the throttle/power doesn’t seem much different because the Street Triple was already at is max throttle values all the way to redline so I didn’t get that big difference like a lot of bikes get. It is quicker to come up from the midrange though because it was dialed back on throttle opening down under around 7,000 rpm’s. It’s got the idle hanging really high for about 5 seconds and the throttle sensitivity feels very twitchy but that’s due to the parameters being reset. It’s gotta relearn itself. Thank you again very much for putting that base tune together for me!!
    Oh, and mine only took about 2 minutes to reprogram?? I was expecting much longer like yours. Do you think anything was wrong with that? It said it was complete and it starts and runs fine. Just seemed very fast for a reprogram. Even my truck takes like 5 minutes to load a new tune.

      Apparently through either one of the latest updates to TuneECU, or having the latest firmware in the OBD connector, you are the second person that has told me that the ECU flash process went from 18 minutes, down to 2-3 minutes. If this is on every bike, that is a MASSIVE improvement!

The most irritating issue on my rally pro is the slightly jerky pickup at very low speeds from a closed throttle. I assume this has a setting to prevent the ecu from shutting the fuel supply completely on a closed throttle? It also runs a little lean with my slip-on and it definately has a strict nanny at waiting for me at aroung 200kph!

    Hey Dave, thanks a ton for these videos! I have a '16 T120 with TEC cam, x-pipe, air filter, mufflers, and a DNK tune I bought years ago, which in all honesty works pretty good (and definitely better than the stock map), but I ended up stacking a booster plug on top of it to get the crisper 'sport mode' throttle response I was after. Now I feel I have an understanding to poke around and see what I paid for lol. A question comes to mind-- if I ever wanted to take my bike to a Dyno tuner, does this mean a (competent) tuner shouldn't need to install a power commander to make changes? Or is that device still necessary?

    • @SquireSCA
      @SquireSCA  Рік тому

      The Booster Plug is snake oil. I don't know why anyone buys those things. All it does it trick the MAP sensor into thinking the bike is at lower elevation, so it adds more fuel everywhere. it does nothing for the throttle. I would remove the Booster Plug, and go into TuneECU and adjust your Sport mode throttle settings and then tune the bike...

    • @Automagine
      @Automagine Рік тому

      @@SquireSCA I bought a booster plug in the early days of my T120 hoping it would alleviate its notoriously snatchy throttle off idle (it didn't). Back then I might have agreed with you. Fast forward a couple years, a TEC cam, and a DNK tune later-- I was debating going to a dyno tuner, but one day I decided to first try out that old booster plug I had laying around for shits and giggles. I rigged it up and spent an hour testing it out on the same stretch of road getting on and off throttle in all gears across the rev range, pulling over and bypassing it, doing the same run, replugging it, repeat. Respectfully, the throttle response now changes significantly when it is plugged in, and is much more FUN! Almost like a Sport mode, which doesn't come on the T120. No exhaust popping, no gasoline smell, and always between 45-55 mpg. My theory: the DNK tune was maybe not intended for the cam, and as such was too lean. Adding "more fuel everywhere" fixed that.
      I'll pop into TuneECU one of these days. I do love to tinker.

    • @SquireSCA
      @SquireSCA  Рік тому

      @@Automagine Its just dumping more fuel in there, so if the bike is lean, the bike will feel better.

      It is crazy to me that people still quote that nonsense, no offense. Anyone that tells you that the bike will just remap itself for a full exhaust, doesn't know anything about these bikes. Will not hurt it at all. Its the same motor as the RS, same internals, same tune. The only difference is the ride by wire table. Your "sport" mode is more like the "Road" mode on the RS. All you would be doing is making your sport mode match the RS. If you want, you can open up the ETV table for the RS, copy it, and then open up the R map and paste it in.
      If you tell me what your base map is, I can do it for you and send you the link.

      drive.google.com/file/d/1YeoHdJU63pkqVMonKbg22jWhpMTjPuK3/view?usp=drive_link
      When you ride it in Sport mode, it might feel too aggressive at first, but that's because your muscle memory has learned that "this much twist gives me this much power"... It's going to give you more power per bit twisted... It's not changing the tune or what the motor us capable of making, it is taking what was already there, and changing how it is delivered... Before, you might twist to 45% and it would only give you 29%... Now, if will give you whatever you twist it to.
      Start with that and if we need to tweak it from there we can. Install that, reset adaptives, let it warm up for a few min and then go rip on it and see how it feels and report back?

Reconnect the hose to the airbox, now its disabled 100%, and if you decided to reverse it later, just pull the hose off the airbox and squeeze the greased marble out of the hose. 🙂

      All my files start as OEM base maps from Triumph. If you tell me the year, model, country and last 6 digits of the VIN, I can put together a map in the morning...
      And the bikes will always be a bit snatchy for two reasons... They are torquey 1200cc twins, and there is a fuel cut off hard coded into the ECU.
      You can smooth some of it out with fuel or ride by wire table changes, but a lot of it is you learning to adapt and ride around it.
      I say this from experience. One of my bikes is making just shy of 200hp at the wheel, and around 110ft/lbs of tq. I learn to ride with a smooth throttle hand.

      I would leave them on, unless you decide to tune it, and then get rid of them. What I found on mine, is that it idled kinda funny when I disabled them... So I plugged TuneECU in while the bike was running, and watched the short term fuel trims that the O2 sensors were providing... It would bounce around from +7 to +13 on each cylinder, meaning that the bike was ADDING fuel to the idle area, not taking away...
      While the bike's ability to "adjust" is narrow and limited in scope, it does work both ways... So if the bike is a little lean there, it can richen it slightly, and that will help you.

      No it doesn't. That isn't a fuel table. That's an AFR target table, and 13.2 is considered the ideal AFR for the cruising range. I would have to go back and check, but my typical base file for a largely stock bike is a tweak to the ignition tables if needed, a remapping of the Road or Sport mode for a much more aggressive and linear throttle response, removal of the top end throttle restrictions, adding a bit of fuel to the typical lean areas, and changing the AFR targets to 13.20

    Does the 2018 rs street triple not need this retune? Very interesting.

    • @SquireSCA
      @SquireSCA  Рік тому

      No, for the 2019-19 models the motors have a different cam, which means they also have a different fuel and ignition tune. No way to turn the R into the RS without swapping out engine internals and doing a full tune, which at that point its cheaper to just sell the R and get the RS.
      In 2020, they started using the exact same motor, same internals, same fuel and ignition tunes, and then they just manipulate the power output with the ride by wire tables... Just like they give a different power profile for Rain, Road and Sport... those 3 modes can be one output on the RS, and then they just dial them back for the R model...

    • @SquireSCA
      @SquireSCA  2 роки тому

      If you fitted a full exhaust, then you NEED a tune. I don't have one for that bike, so you will either need to find someone with that bike and that had a map made on a dyno, or put your bike on the dyno and get it tuned.
      There is an Arrow map, but I think that is for the slipon... it's map number 20760. I will look at the map, but I don;t think that that bike has ride by wire.
      Just looked at it, no restrictions to get rid of. If your tuner can work with ECU, toss it on the dyno and tune it. If he can't, then use TuneECU to disable O2 and SAI, flash the ECU, then install a Power Commander and have him tune it with that.
