    .....and with most Honda’s you can use a paper clip to ground two wires on the four pin OBD plug and the MIL light flashes in a sequence to advise of the fault codes. Another thing the dealers don’t want you to know. In fact, if you search you can find a Honda part that connects the two wires in question so you really don’t need the dealer appointment most of the time unless you need the live data to diagnose a problem. I just did this to my Honda scooter to find out the CKP sensor had gone bad.
    Nice video and subscribed!

      Yup. That sounds appropriate. Fortunately, we can buy the OBD tools / scanners and pull the codes off of our cars or bikes. With that info, we can then do our own repairs. There are enough resources out there to help us. I have saved loads of money doing it this way.

      Did you replace all the seals in the carb? The ethanol used in modern fuels effectively rots the old rubber. Perhaps the float bowl seal has perished?

    For Sprint ST 1050 2006 works via wi-fi via iPhone 12 mini, tested. Erases errors and finds. Only it does not see the throttles separately, it detects them as one. But the errors can be erased.

    Gave me the idea of using a wireless one (I've got USB ones already) and using the iPhone app, then bring up the speedo while riding with the phone on a stem mount. For old bikes with analogue dials that are hard to keep track of, it could be better than building and coding a digital speedo.

    Just bought a diagnostic tool. Will try it on my Yamaha FJR1300 as ABS light won't go out. Obviously there's a problem. Would be great if the tool gives me a little more info to help me fix the issue. One of my friend's car had a warning light on recently so would be fun to see what the problem was. The car had a seized throttle cable that I loosened up which meant the car was idling at a fixed 2k. Car hadn't been run for months and was in storage. Just curious. Could be interesting.

    Hi Tony...sorry to pester....came across your vids a few days ago.....can I ask a question not connected with this vid you look like you know these bikes inside out
    I bought a brand new T100 Bonnie Sept 2020....on cold start I let the engine warm up as I get my kit on.
    Around 3 months ago I noticed a light rattle...may better described as an irregular tapping sound that makes its self heard maybe 30seconds after a stone cold cold start...come in gradually just as the cold start fast idle revs just start to reduce.
    The tapping gradually goes just as the cold fast idle drops to the normal idle speed....so maybe I only hear it for say 1 to 1.5 mins
    Its gone then till the next cold start.
    I suspect its not the timing chain tensioner as its not there till maybe 30secs to maybe 1 min after a cold start.
    At the first service I took the bike to the dealer on a trailer to demo the noise with a cold engine....they said long as it goes dont worry....and could not give me a reason for it.
    But I do worry....and would love to know whats tapping....important or not.
    Nick from Cheshire.

    • @mancavemoto
      @mancavemoto  3 роки тому

      No problem Nick. Without hearing the noise it would be hard to say, but I've found that most bikes make some kind of odd noise until they warm up. It could well be just the effect of the throttle bodies whilst the ecu is taking it measurements in the warm up cycle? If its not loud and its going away after a minute or so, I would say its not important.

    Personally I would use "TuneECU" which is a dedicated tool for Triumph and costs about the same :)

    • @mancavemoto
      @mancavemoto  6 років тому +3

      Thanks, I’m not saying this is the only solution. I did look at TuneECU but didn’t go with it as it’s only available for pc or Android, none of the Triumph modern classics are listed as compatible (it’s general use not triumph dedicated) and it requires a tethered cable and not Wi-fi OBD2 scanners. Lastly TuneECU does more than I wanted, I just wanted something to detect error codes. Having said that if I wanted to mess around with mapping TuneECU is a very good tool

    I took your advice and ordered this OBD II scanner. However, the software download was flagged as dangerous. And my phone is making me basically sign a liability waiver. Stating that if anything happens after downloading this, that Google Chrome is not responsible and it's all on me.
    Maybe recommending something with malicious software isn't a great idea?

    • @mancavemoto
      @mancavemoto  Рік тому

      I downloaded that software onto an iPad with no problem. Is it a case of where it’s being downloaded from? Or chrome being over sensitive? It will sometimes do that purely with a zip file because it can’t see what’s inside it. There’s plenty of OBD software out there.

    I have a used like new 2008 Triumph Bonneville t100. A family member let it sit in a garage for about 2 years with fuel. I pulled the tank, pulled the carb, thought I cleaned the carb well enough, but I may not have gotten all the nooks cleaned out. I am new to this. Finally, bike is running, however, I notice it's sputtering and runs more like a 250cc. This morning I noticed the exhaust pipes were barley glowing. I parked it. So, anyone have any helpful information that could help me figure what I need to be looking for?

    • @jamesdarnell8568
      @jamesdarnell8568 4 роки тому

      I can't speak for the UK, but here in the US all vehicles manufactured after 1996 must have a standard OBD II connection. This is because certain states require periodic testing, much like your MOT. In Illinois, you have to go through a testing lane every three years. They shove a probe up your tailpipe and connect to your OBD plug. If you removed your cat or if your engine is running poorly, you will fail the test. If you do not get your vehicle repaired and retested, they will take away your driving license. So anyway, my point was: all vehicles here must have the standard plug (even Hondas) so they fit the government's machines.
