Motovlog - Sometimes less HP is faster
Seems to be a lot of confusion around this topic lately, with manufacturers bring out new "downgraded" models... But is there method to their madness?
Let's discuss.

The grand tally of every bike I ever bought and rode, not including my wife's bikes. Yes, it's a long video, but there is a lot of ground to cover! :-) Let's go through a quick journey of where I started, and the line of bikes that led to what I have today. Not gonna list them all in the description because nobody ever reads that anyway. :-) Ducati Yamaha Honda KTM Aprilia Triumph Kawasaki

Bulova has a weird reputation that I don't think gives them proper credit. They make excellent quality watches, have just hit their 150th anniversary, and they are the second watch to make it to the moon, and some other cool "firsts" in the watch industry. Let's chat about the brand, and then around the 7 minute park we will get into the watch itself. Link to the Racer line, options and specs: ...

Finally got up there to play, a little. Still learning the bike and getting the settings ironed out. In a lot of ways, its complete overkill... In the mtns, you are better off with a naked sportbike or the smaller ZX6R. Maybe when I get it out on Road Atlanta, the power will come into play, but in the twisties, you really need to be careful... Let's discuss this a bit more, in the video...

    I find that litle curved glass to make the date number bigger so ungly and old, somehting should just stay in the past, it's not classic, not good to look at, just plain ugly and destroys watever good the watch has.

    Found your channel from your Seiko PADI review. Just subscribed 👍 I was recently gifted a Citizen Eco-drive amd have been going down the rabbit hole 😂 In between the PADI solar and this Seiko GMT at the moment.

    • @Daves_Man_Cave
      @Daves_Man_Cave 18 годин тому

      That's a tough call... The PADI solar is a little larger, and you set it and forget it... The GMT is interesting and automatic... So if I were the sales guy at the store and you were looking to buy, I would ask you what feature more fits your needs for this watch? Do you actually need to monitor 2 time zones and don't mind winding the watch occasionally or the lower(100M) water resistance? Or do you want the less maintenance and better water resistance of the PADI?

    • @JonahCrisanti-hi3bo
      @JonahCrisanti-hi3bo 8 годин тому

      @Daves_Man_Cave thank you for the reply. I work in aviation and often fly +1/-1 hour from home. All of our maintenance is recorded in GMT, so the GMT function would have some benefits in my daily to day life. The things about the GMT that are holding me back are the friction fit bezel. I just feel like that would drive me nuts on a dive "style" watch! Another little gripe would be the push-pull crown as opposed to the screw down found on the PADI. My best bet would probably be to get both!

    If you see this how much do you weigh and do the springs help with a additional passenger if you ever had a additional passenger riding with you and how's the ride quality

    • @Daves_Man_Cave
      @Daves_Man_Cave День тому

      245lbs plus gear. I never ride with a passenger, ever. The only exception would be if someone's bike broke down and they needed a ride back.... But for me it was spot on... Made the bike track or even race ready, while still being compliant on the street.

    • @bahe57
      @bahe57 День тому

      @Daves_Man_Cave nice I weight like 290 was wondering if the springs and shock would compensate for my ride style

    • @Daves_Man_Cave
      @Daves_Man_Cave День тому

      If you weigh that much, then getting it sprung for your weight will absolutely make it ride better. The only issue is that for someone your size, having springs stiff enough to get the sag set properly, those springs might overpower your damping circuits(compression and rebound), so you might need to address those as well. Find a good shop that does this kinda stuff and they can set you up. If you are anywhere near the Atlanta area, I can point you to the right shop.

    Dad bought us Swiss Army knives for Christmas one year and it was my favorite gift. I forget which model but I just felt good that he trusted me to own a knife. Few years later our house was burglarized and they took a lot of stuff, including my knife. Years went by and my dad died but for one of my birthdays my brother gifted me this Swisschamp, to replace the one I’d lost. So it has a lot of sentimental value for me but its also a great SAK. It took me about 10 years to realize it has that little pin hidden in there lol

    Interesting observations going 2 teeth up on the rear. At 12k miles on mine and ready for new chain and sprockets...considering going to 45 in the rear as well. Still on the fence. But for using auto-blip/downshift, I absolutely have to close my throttle all the way or it will buck in protest. For this bike, that's how it's designed to work. Not sure what's going on there with your bike. That's a little odd.

    • @Daves_Man_Cave
      @Daves_Man_Cave 7 днів тому

      Yeah, I think it just works differently on that bike... not sure if its because of the sprocket swap or not... on my 24 Streetfighter V2, if you changed the sprocket sizes at all, it would mess with the quickshifter... But on my MT-10, R1, ZX10R, and other non Ducati's, no issues stock or with sprocket swaps and I can autoblip with a closed throttle or partial throttle, no issues...

      @@burner188 Yeah, as electronics have gotten more complicated, these things are starting to pop up... It used to be a simple wheel speed sensor on each wheel, comparing speeds to determine slipping or a wheelie. Now some of them look at each wheel and the RPM of the motor and base their calculations off that, to help anticipate a slip right before it happens... So when the wheel speed sensors say one thing, but the RPM isn't where it is expected to be for that speed, it can throw things off and make it glitchy...

      I ended up buying a proper angle grinder and some cutting discs, and spent 45 minutes cutting the ends off of all the stock studs. You only have to cut the nubbins off, where the thread starts, so it doesn't impact them in any way as far as strength, or if you remove the spacers and went back to stock, they work just as they should. On the Mustang, the wheels that I had as part of the factory Performance Pack had no clearance issues. Either the pockets were deeper... or, I think those spacers were 25mm, so there was less of the stock studs sticking through...

    Have taken long range rides on my 2021, surprised how comfortable it was as all my previous bikes were touring V-twins.

    Great quality vlog and insight. I'm 27 and a little over a year and a half in on my CB650R and have grown very bored. Clocked 33,000 KM on her. It's a reliable city commuter, you can find enjoyment in the twisties but ive consistently pushed the bike to its absolute limits and need an upgrade. I'm a few weeks out from pulling the trigger on a ZX10R but still want to weigh my options. Your comment on the Ducati's high maintenance costs is precisely why I'm opting for the ZX10. Popular machine with wide aftermarket availability that wont kill me financially. The ZH2 is nearly the same cost but my understanding is the supercharger eats fuel but that instant torque throughout the rev range sounds exciting too. But it's a face only a mother could love. GSXR1000 and R1 are also bikes I've gone to look at but are more expensive out the door and arent ad widely available in my neck of the woods which leaves me concerned about maintenance and aftermarket care. My wife has ridden smaller displacement machines years ago so im going to start letting her practice on the 650 snag the ZX and hope it keeps me entertained for at least a few years.

      Going from a 650 to the ZX10R is a massive step up. We are talking 100hp at the wheel, more. Have you ridden a modern liter bike recently?

      @@Daves_Man_Cave I'm aware of the sheer difference in power. I intend on throwing her in rain mode and working my way into it. Have the break in period anyway before I can star to act rowdy on it.

      Gotcha... Yeah, I don't do the 600 mile break in... I ride it easy for 100 or so miles, get on it a good bit till 150 miles and then do the first oil and filter change. If it all looks good, I just rip on it, charge it again at 1000 miles and then every 2000 miles or a track day, whatever comes first. And rain mode is a good idea. Its nice that modern tech lets you have 2 or 3 bikes in one, at the push of a button...

    I have a LOT of knifes, my father is a knife smith, and I can make my own too. I have knifes from 5 USD to...I don't know. But I don't use the most expensive ones. What I carry on a daily basis is a Brualetto pocket knife, and a Brusletto in my belt. They are practical, good enough steel...and about 60 USD each. And if no one knows the brand, it's Norwegian. It's kind of where I live. ;)

    Nice grab and go watch, I hadn't seen that one. I also spontaneously ordered a blacked-out Citizen 44mm (but lug to lug only 46mm) dive-style (100m) automatic with functional bezel awhile back and enjoy it when hiking, fishing, etc. It's a real strap monster too (22mm). There are other watches in that series which I might add to the collection, with silver case and blue sunray dial (NH8389-88LE) or with silver case, black or green dial and compass bezel (NJ2190-85E, NJ2198-16X). Simple, robust, good-looking watches. Cheers!

    I'm sure people will say 440c is not great, but it's a good steel for the money. I have old Spyderco knives with worse steel. 😂
