This is so useful, thank you. I own both a Sur Ron and a Cake Kalk&. I am going to change my & 72t sprocket to the OR 80t which is the largest they have right now. Even though it will reduce my top speed for the street it will still be fast enough for the roads I travel. And since extending range is my goal I'm hoping this will work on the Cake. Thank you for this test. Sustained high speed (40+MPH) on the road to get to offroad areas really sucks down the juice. I have figured out a way to charge my bikes (both the SR and Cake) at level 2 EVSE charging stations which is a game changer for the dual sport Kalk&.

thank you for your work. this will help me and others a lot. the only think would be: does this also apply for doing long tours on easy terrain or street. I think of that: In a race like yours you have a lot of breaking and acceleration. With higher teeth on your sproket you need less power to accelerat. But when you have allready speed, you would need a higher rpm to maintain the speed. But of course you need also more power to stay at that rpm with less teeth. So the question is: Does the surron take more battery when opperated with higher rpm and need less "power" to hold the higher rpm, or does it need not so much when operating with lower rpm but need more "power"

    want even MORE range?
    make the wheels lighter.
make the wheel sprocket freewheel with a pawl clutch system like on a mtb.
use slimmer but taller OD tires.
tires with a more dualsporty tread style.
set the suspension so the front is softer, but the rear is harder.
    try braking less.
drop the seat lower, and the bars too.
    eliminate batery sag.
go higher voltage for more eficiency.
less start and stop less slow down and speed up = more range.
yeah i think that abt covers it lol. you might wanna go dual belt too, to further make the bike lighter and the drivetrain too. but havent looked into that fully yet, i do know BMX chain/track bike chain would extend range for sure too, but that means you need to swam chains 50% faster

I put a monstrous 64 tooth on my Sur Ron X. On my 48 tooth, I got a top speed of 48 mph and on the 64 tooth, I get a top speed of 35 mph. The 64 tooth turns the bike into a great rocket for stop and go riding and carves up the hills of San Francisco. My body weight is 240 at 6 foot tall. I did notice that my battery seemed to be lasting longer. You have to use a gps app to see your actual mph. Cheers.

Tires are the same , if there the hot tire to run on Sur Ron there outta stock also . Fuck If I knew then what I know now I would of gotten a 58 off the start . Gas vs elec there way different like you explained.

Just a interesting thing though I do a lot of road riding (extended time at WOT) to get to my short off-road trails and I swapped to a 52t sprocket from the stock and I got significantly worse range just going up 4 teeth when I swapped back to stock sprocket I was getting home with 20% more battery than with my 52t sprocket, I wish I could use the 52t I love the torque and quality of the sprocket itself but I’m stuck running the stock one I guess.

  • @johnnyzee383
    @johnnyzee383 3 роки тому

This analogy is the same as gas cars with respect to LOAD...with the 48 T and doing the trails compared to the 58 T there was too much load on the motor, hence the lever was improved using the 58 T sprocket. My Fiat 500 with only 101 HP revs at 2500 at 60 where my Challenger is coasting at 1400..because the smaller less powerful motor would actually use more fuel if the gear were taller and the RPM's were lower because the load would be too much. Im waiting for my Sur ron and one of the first things ill be doing is making another 30 ah 60 volt pack run in parallel under the seat in a nice designed case with brackets and a thick gauge wire running to the original battery. Has to be running the SAME ah as the original or you get into issues with the bigger pack trying to charge the smaller when its out of juice..I see some people running a smaller 20 ah in parallel and that isnt a good idea. That would save you from switching out the packs but would add some weight carrying the additional pack, but for me it doesnt matter.

Depends on how many teeth you up it.

@@electricisbetterwell it does in a straight line for what you are using it for maybe it does actually help but i have seen multiple test videos that show in a straight line the 48 accelerats faster that the 58 and the 48 has a higher top speed of about 5-8 mph but in tight turn and off road probably dosent affect it as much

Hey there, I’m surprised that in the test you described the 48 tooth accelerated faster. I have rode dirt bikes for years. Generally speaking if you raise teeth in the back sprocket you increase torque. If you decrease the rear sprocket you would gain top speed. If you have a smaller front sprocket you increase torque and if you add teeth you will increase top speed. Maybe it’s the electric drive is totally different. Anyway thx for all the videos. I would like to buy one soon. Curious what the realistic range is in a trail with elevation up and down. Does it actually have power to climb up a steep hill? Thank you

@@p20dirtrider changing the rear sprocket will DROP the top speed. But at the same time, get you to accelerate faster

Sonic Riders how long could you ride it for if you were on the throttle pretty hard. Like that 4 lap race I watched?
