True, I was looking into getting this but now that I decided to upgrade the battery I don’t know if it’s compatible with the charger that Chi battery sells. If it is I would like to get it and try it, But I think this charger input voltage is only accepts 120 V and not 240 V like most EV charging stations provide.

Thanks again for the video! Used to live at the bottom of West Hollywood! Can’t wait to get back out there and take trips likes these when I finally get a SurRon! 🙌🙌
Thanks! I want more power on tap, and more range for when I don't fully utilize the power I have on tap. It seems like 60v just doesn't have the zip 72v can provide. @@JuicedJoyrides I’m down in Orange County at the moment, but if/when I get back up there with the SurRon, I’ll definitely hit you up and maybe see you on the streets🙏 that’s cool with the 72v. I definitely get it especially bc you’re a very tall 6’5”. One thing that had me concerned (which is why I love the 60/60 gladiator) was overall size/weight for what you get out of it. I’m not sure on the 72v chi’s but I know the 60/60 is only 10-13 pounds heavier than the stock battery which seems like a good balance point for not adding too much weight, yet still doubling your range :-) either way, I just need to get the bike first 😆😆😆
I never got a flat on either tire, but the shinko tires are much thicker and heavier, they sure seem more puncture resistant to me. I’m using the stock inner tubes, probably would have upgraded them but it didn’t cross my mind at the time I ordered my tires.
@@JuicedJoyrides I see. Those surron tires are definitely beefy, I'm sure they'll handle just fine. I found this stuff called FlatOut which seems pretty effect. I'm going to throw some in my tires when I get it
Not only one percent. Also some power was needed to go down. Should be equal to two percents worth. But would be interesring to see the result without the regen on. Aswell as if the lamps consume anything,
I feel like the headlight is negligible energy consumption. Good point about it taking some throttle to get down the hill. I was surprised to see the charge actually go back up, that was the first time I ever saw it go up at all I think.
there is an app called PlugShare for that, it's helped me find some outlets around the city, it's also led me to some wild goose chases. you can share outlets you find on that app. hope this helps dude!

Nice, sooner or later looking to pick up one of those Chi batts. Dont mean to sound like a noob/my current Sur Ron is stock so haven't ventured into the after market batt realm yet. So em is the unlocking part necessary? / is it just to be used with the 4000 bac? if your just sticking with the 60v version of the Chi and the x controller is it necessary?. I know it not a big deal, its commonly done , but i hear that "unlocking" the battery removes fire protections AND any kind of warantees so "whats the point" and does it have to be done?. Thanks for any info, -Cheers
I think what you’re talking about is doing the bypass on the battery. If you buy a 60 V from chi, you will not need to bypass it in order to get full power. The only reason to bypass the stock 60 V battery is so you can get the BAC 4000 controller to pull 7000 W from the stock battery, whereas if you do not do the bypass the controller will only be able to pull 5000 W
I debated many options. I want more speed too, from what I hear and my experience riding other 72v bikes, it seems like more voltage is the better route to go for more power. I almost got the larger 72v 51ah battery, but ultimately decided to get the 38ah so it will look less goofy, and because the ship time was listed as faster. Going from the stock 60v 32ah battery which is 1920 watt hours to the 72v 38ah is 2736 watt hours is a 42% increase in energy. So riding at the same speeds as the old battery I should see a huge increase in range. I hope I’m happy with my choice, but part of me wonders if I should have gone for the larger 72v.
@@JuicedJoyrides Thanks man, I appreciate it! Great video! I really want to buy one of these bikes so am literally watching every video before I pull the trigger. Ride safe!👍😃
I find that the battery percentage drops off linearly, and as the percentage gets lower the power gets weaker and weaker. It goes kinda like this: 100-85% thrilling, really powerful 85-70% pretty darn fun still 70-50% I wish it was more charged 50-40% still holds good top speeds but the acceleration has reduced considerably 40-20%% it's getting you from a to b with good speed but you know its time to go home 20% and less I rarely ride, it can still pop a wheelie at 20% but its not much fun anymore
@@JuicedJoyrides Thanks for the detailed reply. I've only had mine less than 3 months and just trying to understand its system better. I felt it wasn't linear but didn't scientificly test it. Maybe that was due to me using a higher percentage of throttle towards the end of the range than the beginning. I'll have to download that App you were using... did you mention its name in the vid?
Awesome video! I noticed you are in the Playa Vista area. I am in Culver City and ride around that area a lot. I ride a onyx RCR. Hit me up if you ever wanna ride together around town. 🤙
Mine was particularly loud on this day, I actually just posted a new video of the same ride, it might be a little bit quieter now? It’s really my lack of chain maintenance that causes the noise considering converting to belt.
I didn’t attempt top speed climbing the hill, I’d guess it would be able to do mid 40s, about 45mph, but it will drain the battery really quickly and also cause the motor to potentially overheat running too much power up a steep hill for a long time.
Hey your Sur Ron chain noise sounded fairly loud and I only inquire because I had quite the learning curve getting the chain tightness correct on mine and discovered that my bike was loud cause it wasn't right. I only comment out of concern could completely be the microphone picking up that chain noise but maybe your chain could use some adjustment 🤷♂️ otherwise very cool video my city is very boring to ride in when compared to where you get to ride, love it!
Thanks man, you’re def right, need to tighten up the chain again as well as clean it again, the noise creeps up on me and then suddenly I realize it’s super loud and needs maintenance. Where do you ride?
@@JuicedJoyrides definitely don't mean to be negative I just had a week of adjusting before I realized where the chain should sit (I'm used to dirt bike chains) so I'm plenty experienced in the different noises the chain makes haha. I'm up in Canada but in the flat part so no hills/mountains to ride through unfortunately, just means I'll have to plan a road trip the USA one day and bring the bike along 👌
@@JuicedJoyrides oh! I didn't even realize it wasn't the stock chain (like I have) lol that could even be part of the reason it sounds different 👍 This was my first video suggested on my feed I've watched of yours, can't wait to dive into the others. Keep it up 🤙
definitely designed for 1 person, however I do know a guy who squeezes two people onto it. There is only one set of pegs for 1 riders feet. The suspension would be quite compressed with two people on the bike.
😆 this battery has 3x the energy capacity as the Prius battery, thanks for pointing this out, made for some interesting research and google searches for me!
Yes, absolutely. I bought mine as a toy and now use it as my daily driver since gas prices are so high and it’s just so much fun. So far I’ve had it for 2 weeks, put 451 miles on it, and have saved roughly $150 bucks on gas. The surron is just way to much fun because you have absolute freedom on it. You can ride it anytime, anywhere, for anything, literally! By far the best purchase I’ve made!
Those e bikes are 😎👍. It's jus not in my world 🌎 of what I can afford. I just went ahead and find similar type of frame as I had 1 bike already I converted. It will be the ER standard type of frame I will always use. The other 1 shock 1 piece frames should be obsolete as the frame is not really fitted to adapt to the speed of e bikes for the various conditions of road or trail.
i hate how u have a 10 dollar bike lock to lock a bike that cost 5 grand if ur gonna spend that much money at least spend 100 dollars on a good lock for it
These type of bike frames is the standard for e biking. Being a very expensive e bike in these ,the market is flooded with ecomical ones starting at 700$ range. Majority of these cheaper ones goes up to the 1000$ range depending on power of motor and so on. Most used the standard 1 piece frame of jus front shocks. E bike speed differs from jus foot power as I found out with 1 piece frame with jus 1 shocks in the front wheel, the comfort when going 20mph is still a bit rough. I bought a Conversion Kit and used sam we typ we of frame as the ones in to his video of 2 piece frame Dual Shocks being a hardtail type. It goes 40mph and way smoother of handling the road much like the suspension from Mercedes-Benz Cars. Knowing the difference ,every future buy or CKit I get, it will always be the 2 piece Dual shock frames I will only use.
Thanks for the comment man, I used a kit to build one in the past back in 2016 and found the same experience as you. The actual mid drive motor conversion made a powerful and fun electric bike, but the lack of suspension is what really killed the vibe of the whole thing. Been loving this bike, happy riding!
the reason the batter was going down realy quickly was because u had ur phone pluged in next time dont have your phone pluged in and the batter might last longer but good video i liked it
Kinda doubt it affects range at all, a phone draws milli-amps, then thing runs on 100 amps ish, The amount of energy the phone would take to charge from 0 to 100% might be enough to power this bike for a 10th of a mile
I don't follow your channel (until now) and I don't know how tall you are. I'm very tall and I wonder how I would fit on this bike. You look tall, it will help me if I know your height so I could compare. We weight almost the same.

@@JuicedJoyrides yes 2 pounds per tire extra, but they definitely seem worth it :-) no worries on Instagram. I feel THE EXACT same way about twitter 👍
What you need is J 1772 to nema 5-15/5-29EV charger adapter you can plug into any auto ev charging station and it's under $100.00
True, I was looking into getting this but now that I decided to upgrade the battery I don’t know if it’s compatible with the charger that Chi battery sells. If it is I would like to get it and try it, But I think this charger input voltage is only accepts 120 V and not 240 V like most EV charging stations provide.
He said “I don’t really want to carry 5 pounds on my back” lmao brotha I usually roll out with at LEAST 10 pounds lol, camelbak, spare parts/tools,ouid, and snacks lol 1:54
Do you think I should wait for the 2023 model or just get the one they have now?
I’d get the new one with the bigger battery if you plan on keeping the stock battery and if it doesn’t cost much more than the previous model
@@JuicedJoyrides okay thanks! Do you know when it comes out?
That was a cool trip. I’m from the UK and haven’t been to LA yet. One day 👌
Thanks! Enjoy your visit when you come!
What is the iPhone speedometer app called? Great if you could share link to it and/or name?
I think its just called speedometer app in iPhone App Store
How tall are you, how do you find the size of this ebike for yourself?
Hey man, as always amazing video! Love this😃 was curious though… Why upgrade to 72 V/38 amp hour battery versus the 60 V/60 amp hour gladiator battery? Are you going more for power than range? Thanks again for the video! Used to live at the bottom of West Hollywood! Can’t wait to get back out there and take trips likes these when I finally get a SurRon! 🙌🙌
Thanks! I want more power on tap, and more range for when I don't fully utilize the power I have on tap. It seems like 60v just doesn't have the zip 72v can provide. I am partially having buyers remorse for not going with the larger 51ah version of the 72v. It's hard to decide without having the ability to actually try them out, I hope I'm happy with my purchase. It's a fun are over by west hollywood, where did you move to?
@@JuicedJoyrides I’m down in Orange County at the moment, but if/when I get back up there with the SurRon,
I’ll definitely hit you up and maybe see you on the streets🙏 that’s cool with the 72v. I definitely get it especially bc you’re a very tall 6’5”. One thing that had me concerned (which is why I love the 60/60 gladiator) was overall size/weight for what you get out of it. I’m not sure on the 72v chi’s but I know the 60/60 is only 10-13 pounds heavier than the stock battery which seems like a good balance point for not adding too much weight, yet still doubling your range :-) either way, I just need to get the bike first 😆😆😆
What app are you using on your phone
Strava, it’s really for cycling, which I do that too, I just click the eBikes activity for this so I’m not stealing PR’s from real cyclists 🚴♂️
@@JuicedJoyrides thx I’ll try it
As an Italian, we need to have a fairly long discussion about the specific hand gestures you're choosing to use while you're talking.
😂 you may need to get a translation from my Italian girlfriend
I would really love to see super charger feature in new e-bikes.
Would be cool to have the charger built into the bike like that, although it does add weight, I think it would be worth it in my case
Cool vid my man
thank you!
Way to go buddy!
Thanks buddy
Kinda looking at one of these. What’s the grinding noise?
Late reply, but I believe his chain is too tight
Are the aftermarket tires more puncture resistant?
Yes. I’d say twice as puncture resistant than the stocks. I also upgraded the tube when I switched to the Shinkos which helps also.
@@gottadrumitup oo nice.. I'm expecting a fat tire ebike soon and hear dof ppl using heavier tires for more puncture resistance
You should photo the location for the charger socket and post it on Google Maps!
there is an app called PlugShare for that, it's helped me find some outlets around the city, it's also led me to some wild goose chases. you can share outlets you find on that app. hope this helps dude!
what is your daily job haha i would love to be able to afford one of these
Affiliate marketing, real estate investor, also have a second much larger YT channel, but I want to grow this one and make it my “daily job” because it’s what I really enjoy most
@@JuicedJoyrides good job man I look up to you this was a really good quality video!!
Surrons are loud as hell what is that the gear box or the chain
There are adapters available to charge PEV from most charging stations.
I’ve been looking into that, the new battery I ordered uses a 120v input so this may be an issue
@@JuicedJoyrides Ah , thanks that clarifies alot of things/thanks for the info, great channel. -Cheers
How much hate do you get rolling down paths normally used for walking? Great ride!

@@JuicedJoyrides Same here with my Bafang DIY, I get looks and comments from people who are ignorant of the law.
THOSE ARE SHINKO 244S NOT 241S
Did you cut the green wire or no? Also what regen sheeting are you on?
10% Regen, green wire snipped from day 1
@@JuicedJoyrides Thank you
Curious why you didn't go Chi 60v 60ah max battery instead of 72V 38ah compact. Sounded like you were looking for range.
@@JuicedJoyrides Cant wait to see your results!. Thanks for being the guinea pig for me lol
Should your controller be where it is? Completely exposed to all the dirt and grime thrown at it from the front wheel?
It’s the stock location, probably should add a cover of sorts
@@JuicedJoyrides Thanks man, I appreciate it! Great video! I really want to buy one of these bikes so am literally watching every video before I pull the trigger. Ride safe!👍😃
How do you find the battery percentage dropoff... does it reduce linearly... or does it drop off faster during the last 3rd of the capacity?
I find that the battery percentage drops off linearly, and as the percentage gets lower the power gets weaker and weaker. It goes kinda like this:
100-85% thrilling, really powerful
85-70% pretty darn fun still
70-50% I wish it was more charged
50-40% still holds good top speeds but the acceleration has reduced considerably
40-20%% it's getting you from a to b with good speed but you know its time to go home
20% and less I rarely ride, it can still pop a wheelie at 20% but its not much fun anymore
Awesome 😎 thanks brother 🙏
Thank you brother
Awesome video! I noticed you are in the Playa Vista area. I am in Culver City and ride around that area a lot. I ride a onyx RCR. Hit me up if you ever wanna ride together around town.
🤙
Thanks man, would be down to ride, I need to organize something soon
Sounds good! I work from home so I'm up for a ride almost anytime.
that surron is loud... or are they all like that?
Mine was particularly loud on this day, I actually just posted a new video of the same ride, it might be a little bit quieter now? It’s really my lack of chain maintenance that causes the noise considering converting to belt.
14:42 Do we mess or not?
😂 not a chance a cop is saying anything in Hollywood dude, riding an “illegal” ebike through there you basically look like Jesus passing out bread
Impressive ride. I too use Strava to record my rides on my 60v scooter under ebike mode.
What's the top speed for that grade climb
I didn’t attempt top speed climbing the hill, I’d guess it would be able to do mid 40s, about 45mph, but it will drain the battery really quickly and also cause the motor to potentially overheat running too much power up a steep hill for a long time.
i get like 70km. I bring the charger with me now. Im surprised theres not many nice options to carry your charger while we ride
It’d be great to have a streamlined way to just plug this in to an outlet anywhere or an ev station!
how do i get work reviewing bikes like this
use it 2 years, 12k miles a year, all seasons in Alaska, tell me how the battery is then...
I’ll write back and follow up here in September 2024
@@mitchstarr5317 for sure! I think this new renthal chain I put on is stretching out more than my previous chain stretched

Isn't the tires the shinko 244's not the 241's. The 244 is much heavier then the 241's
Where can I buy one?
Luna Cycle is one place
54 tooth sprocket not stock WHICH WAY? Are we supposed to guess?
48 tooth is stock, mine is 54 tooth
what seat do you use?
The Luna cycle leather seat
Is it a one seater or 2?
definitely designed for 1 person, however I do know a guy who squeezes two people onto it. There is only one set of pegs for 1 riders feet. The suspension would be quite compressed with two people on the bike.
Its seems you get more range on youre bypassed battery then i on my stock battery i get like 25 miles out of it
The larger sprocket and tires may help there, also I wasn’t giving it the full apple juice🧃I just cruising
2k for a bike battery holy shit. thats the same price to replace a prius battery
😆 this battery has 3x the energy capacity as the Prius battery, thanks for pointing this out, made for some interesting research and google searches for me!
What is that in metric?
You’ll have to punch it in a conversation calculator
Why is you Surron so loud ? Does it have a chain instead of a belt ?
Yeah, it has a chain, and it’s dirty again. When I clean it the bike gets quieter.
The truth. Are these surron worth the money?
Yes. Upgrades are addicting though, loved it from day one. I think the question to ask is are the upgrades worth the money.
If your rich then yes. Otherwise no way build something as fast less noticeable to cops and 1/4 to 1/2 the price
@@seetheanimal5867 I'm not rich, but I have 2 of them. They are the coolest things I have ever owned!

Is there any way to make a Suron street legal?
you can register them as a moped in some areas, also i know you can do things to add tail lights, turn signals, etc
😎
i hate how u have a 10 dollar bike lock to lock a bike that cost 5 grand if ur gonna spend that much money at least spend 100 dollars on a good lock for it
True, really need to upgrade that too. Gps tracker is on it too
Damn dude, you spent like $10k overall on the surron. Do you think it's better to just get a road legal Storm Bee?
😆 that is a good question
Whats the charging time
32ah divided by 10 amp charger = 3.5 hours from empty
Been loving this bike, happy riding!
the reason the batter was going down realy quickly was because u had ur phone pluged in next time dont have your phone pluged in and the batter might last longer but good video i liked it
Kinda doubt it affects range at all, a phone draws milli-amps, then thing runs on 100 amps ish, The amount of energy the phone would take to charge from 0 to 100% might be enough to power this bike for a 10th of a mile
great bike for around town and streets. pity woodnt last 2 mins on a hill trails .more into down hill elec bikes
For sure
