  • Golfer’s elbow, or medial epicondylitis, can be very tricky to treat. In this video, I’ll teach you a self-massage to ease pain in the elbow, forearm, wrist, and hand, and gain back wrist and finger mobility. This self-massage is not meant to take the place of standard care, but to assist and promote a faster and more complete recovery.

    It is highly recommended that you take a break from any activity that is perpetuating your symptoms, i.e. golf, racquet sports, weight training, and other activities that require repetitive hand and wrist movements. Make sure you see your doctor to rule out anything more serious, and ask about massage therapy to reduce tightness, increase flexibility, and improve recovery. Also ask about physical therapy to strengthen the muscles of the wrist and fingers.
    Follow along with me as we massage away pain, and get started on healing your golfer’s elbow!

    Thank you for showing how to massage with your forearm instead of just your wrist and fingers. I have it on both elbows so it can be tedious and irritating to have to use my fingers to massage my elbow lol.

    Wow! just did all the massage techniques you so nicely explained as you showed them. Have to say I will be doing it daily until my golfer's elbow heals. Been going to physio for 3 months and not making much progress. I have to step up my macro facial techniques to go along with my eccentric weight exercise. You are the first person I have ever followed. Keep up the awesome videos. : )

    I have golfers elbow in both. The right one is on fire burning most the time. I followed your instructions. The opposite arm across the affected one slowly down the arm gave me almost instant relief. I may be able to sleep tonight now! I also used a spiked lacrosse ball up and down wrist along with all you had in the video. Thanks!

    Thanks beautiful, this gave me some insight to my problem, its so frustrating that yesterday i couldn't do bench press and today the same thing happened with the shoulder press dumbbell. i really like to do them but i couldn't due to the elbow problem. been massaging the way it came to my mind. then i thought why not approach youtube. i am glad i found your video and the other old chick's. your probably is more favorable as it doesn't require any favor from the other person😘

    hello Rachel!
    i want to say thank you for this video it's very helpful. i got this pain on my eblow that seems to be golfers elbow but i'm not sure.It start few weeks a go when i was going to gym (1/2 days a week) and i think i lifted to heavy for my body weight. i been to doctor and he told me i have no problems my bones are ok.
    the thing is i'm not going to gym any more but the pain it's worst some times. i don't feel the pain when i wake up but after the day long becomes very unconfortable, the pain comes from the interior part of elbow. i don't feel it all the time but when i do some particular moves it hurts.
    After i done this self-massage it feels better but i done it in the morning when i have no pain i'll try it and later.
    Do u think it's golfer elbow or something else, first time i feeled this pain 5 years a go but not this intense.
    Thank you.

    what a fantastic video! I am finding where it is most tender for me is just slightly above the inner elbow bone instead of below, just kind of beside and slightly down from the bicep - should I also just dig in there with a few fingers like you have shown?

    • @rachelrichardsmassage9660
      @rachelrichardsmassage9660  10 місяців тому

      Glad you like it! Sure, you can massage above the elbow. I would suggest working gently at first, since it's tender. Avoid causing any pain.

      There's often some activity that's perpetuating the condition, e.g. a sport, playing an instrument, typing, that causes recurrences. Often, you would need to reduce or stop doing the activity for at least a couple of weeks. I encourage you to see your doctor for a thorough treatment plan.

    Hi Rachel is it normal to feel a bit of pain after massaging a sensitive tendon spot? It's just I feel a bit of pain after on inside elbow just above bone as if I've done the exercise that provokes it.

    • @rachelrichardsmassage9660
      @rachelrichardsmassage9660  3 роки тому +1

      It could be tender after the friction technique. If you feel like the massage is irritating rather then helping the issue, wait until your condition isn't so acute. Also, when you do this massage, be very gentle at first. You can always increase pressure later when the area is less sensitive. General rule of thumb is go easy in the beginning, and wait a couple of days to see how the injury responds. If symptoms ease, try a little more and, again, wait and see. If symptoms worsen, stop the massage and follow up with your doctor.

    • @rachelrichardsmassage9660
      @rachelrichardsmassage9660  4 місяці тому +1

      I'm not a big fan of icing, since it can interfere with the healing process and create more tension in the muscles. That said, if you find that it's helpful for you, then sure.

    Would you do ice or heat for golfers elbow?

    • @rachelrichardsmassage9660
      @rachelrichardsmassage9660  Рік тому

      Great question. If you are in the acute phase, or there is still inflammation, stick with ice. If it's an old injury that's just sore now and then, you can put heat on the forearm to help relax the muscles. Avoid heat directly on the elbow.

    I used this to get rid of golfers elbow but it ended up developing into a tommy john surgery. It really worked when it was just golfers elbow. It's been 4 months since surgery. Do you think this massage would work now?

    • @rachelrichardsmassage9660
      @rachelrichardsmassage9660  2 роки тому +1

      I think it would. Although the surgery was on a ligament, the muscles and tendons in the forearm can respond by getting very stiff and sore. Give it a try and let me know how it goes.
