Therapist Reacts to Ren X Chinchilla - Chalk Outlines

Every video of yours brings me to tears. I can’t fathom trusting/having a good day, a good out come, a good conclusion, a good ending, a good nothing. This mental health journey sucks and its also very therapeutic
The line "it's a beautiful day, take it just in case" is truly heart breaking. That feeling of wishing to enjoy what seems like a good day but not risking it and taking the chalk outline.
Hi Keilani, hi James, I've been enjoying your Ren reactions and can't wait for more. There's one thing that I hope you change in your future reactions that would help grow your community and improve your content at the same time, and that is please don't watch the video before you record your reactions. The way you're singing along and enjoying the song; although lovely and endearing, in truth robs your audience from witnessing your initial reactions to a track by Ren, whether it's delight, surprise, shock or dismay we miss out on the initial impact that we're all tuning in to see and relive through your eye's. Cheers and see you in the next🍻
Hi. I agree with your comment. I think she's trying to prevent catastrophic misinterpretation (which is understandable and hard to recover from). I think an acceptable compromise would be to have the lyrics on a separate screen so she doesn't misunderstand anything but still shows the initial expression you talked about.
@@jamiew899 I agree, that would be the best solution. Hopefully she'll consider your situation.👍.
Agree...the entire point to a reaction video is to watch the authentic first time emotional reactions to the songs...I really enjoy everything else about your reactions though. You have good insight and are very good at catching the MEANING and MESSAGES in his music...it just would be so much more impactful and authentic if you had NOT already been familiar with the songs. I would recommend watching once through just feeling the emotions, then once again where you analyze and talk about what you pick up on and have just listened to for the best of both worlds...this way your viewers can experience your genuine reaction AND get the benefits of your amazing break down and insights.😄✌
Another option would be to record your initial reaction and then go back during the editing process and add some comments or captions after you've had time to process the song more and allow it to marinate a bit. There is certainly entertainment value in seeing someones true first reaction, but there is also value in going deeper. Find the balance that works best for you. 😄
Support this statement 100%
This is my favourite song of the last 10 years , together they are just incredible and individually the same. How To Be Me is another stunning performance.
How to be me live version if you like ballads. Awesome voice together again
"How to be me ; ", "Freckled Angels" "Suic*de", "For Joe", "Depression", "Insomnia" & "Dominoes" All by Ren
+ "REN - Power"
No one captures the human experience like Ren.
At first I was a little bummed that you had watched it first. But I think in several ways that added more richness to the video. It isn't often we get to hear someone talk about a Ren song after they've had time to really give it thought and let it marinate. I'm grateful you brought this perspective, and I LOVE that you've been able to share this with some of the people you work with! Ren's music is healing, and it fosters a lot of kindness and community. Thank you again for your perspective, I'm subscribed and can't wait to see what else you bring for us ❤
I'm glad to see that you reacted to this song. Ren's choice of lyrics resonate with so many people. He writes in a way that although it may be about his experience, it also relates to so many other people's situations. This song hit me hard the first time I heard it and still does. I'm a 50 year old guy with Asperger's and I have difficulty showing or feeling emotions. Not with this song, or some of Ren's other works. I had tears running down my face because he expressed so eloquently what I went through many years ago. I've been in pain daily since I was 17 years old. All the doctors I've gone to through my life always prescribed pills. None of them even tried finding the root cause. At the age of 17 I was given high dose codeine to manage my pain and I was supposed to take it daily... for the rest of my life. After about the first year I decided I couldn't live my life with the effects the narcotics were giving me and I stopped taking them. I developed depression and anxiety due to the expectation of pain. I was prescribed anti-depressants (SSRI). I was on them for almost 2 years but I just didn't care about anything while I was on them so stopped those also. One of the medications actually made me become violent. I've come to the point where I have learned to manage my problems without medications. It's difficult at times but at least now I can feel and care about what goes on around me. Ren is bringing attention to topics that we all need to talk about. To express our stories so others will know they are not alone.
Hi Kelani. 😊💜I just wanted to say It's not okay for anyone to criticize you because you watched it first. You were honest about it and why. That should be enough. Most Ren fans are not like that. To those who criticize, why? If you don't like it, don't keep watching. Reactors are people with feelings. Negative comments affect negatively. It's good practice to wait before clicking send on a negative comment. Just one persons opinion.
This is my second video watching your reactions and I love your insights. One of the things about think about often when I watch/listen to this song is when they’re both belting to each other with eye contact is the wall of sound that is created as they’re voices collide. The sounds washing over both of them enhancing their emotions. It must have been so profound and intimate.
Dammmnn…. 💯💯💯 it’s almost like it’s a ballet dance they way the move together, coming back and forth battling the emotions..
thank you for continuing to react and support my favourite artist ever sending big love to you and James from the UK ❤❤❤
I love the reaction and that you have shared this with your clients. Music is one of the ways that I connect with mine. As an MSW student in a clinical placement with adolescents and young adults and only 65 days away from graduation, I have multiple playlists of songs for my clients and myself. They are songs in so many different genres that are from the point of view of being fully in the throws of untreated mental health diagnoses (medication or therapy), relapse, all the way to on the way to healing from trauma. Music has been a great starting point when it's hard to find the words, we've started with the words of others and gone from there. A few artists that make my playlists numerous times: Shinedown, Three Days Grace, Papa Roach, Blu Eyes, Alec Benjamin, Anson Seabra, RORY, NF, Ren, Youngblood, Icon for Hire, The Score, and Citizen Soldier. Good single song that often gets repeated on lists: Fletcher the song "Healing"; Em Beihold "Numb Little Bug"; Ashley Kutcher "Survive My Own Mind" Imagine Dragons "I Don't Like Myself"; Ryan Mack "Only Human"; Set It Off "Lonley Dance"; Royal & the Serpent "Overwhelmed"; and As It Is "IDGAF" (this is explicit). I could go on for quite some time, as now my classmates are joining forces to see if they can find songs I don't have.
Thank you for the recs and congratulations on being in the home stretch! 🎉
Same with me... I've listened to this song few times and I woke up with it! ... and im Italian
"Fire Away" by Chris Stapleton. Makes me cry every time.
SSRis caused so many problems for me, and about 15 years ago being quickly switched from different medications and over medicated literally turned on anxiety in me, I never had anxiety before that. I wish I could go back to just depression. Throw in chronic trauma and stress and a mental health system that victimized me and I am afraid of everything, every move I make, unable to allow myself to feel decent about myself. You're right, it's very hard being human and we are so flawed. Thanks.
I've recently walked away from my therapy, i'm 49 years old, been in some form of therapy since I was 12 years old, recently I was talking on my social anxiety and mild agoraphobia, forcing myself to go the grocery store because I am literally down to 1 ramen noodle, and while i'm in the aisle of the stores I get dizzy, my heart races, I get this metallic taste in my mouth, ears start to ring, I feel as though every one is staring at me, and while describing this my therapist said " are you really that important? you actually think every one there is looking at YOU? " think i'm done for a while, just gonna see where life takes me but therapy is on pause, great reaction by the way, i'll look on your channel to see if you have done NF's leave me alone, if you have not I recommend it.
excellent analysis of what this song represents
Seconding the comments already mentioning that it’s better to share initial reactions and not pre-watching. You seem open to feedback so I hope this helps you improve your channel and your videos and build a community who are here to enjoy blind reactions.
Hey, I know this is late, I know Ren, and this song, but hadn't seen this video. The rawness of Chinchilla reminded me of a sign you HAVE to react to; Donna Missal & Macklemore Over it
@delightfulpod your voice gave me tingles. Hope you list to Over It, it's about a couple breaking up, but can't keep *stop going back & forth, it's amazing.
*edit
You need too react to money game 3!! It’s awesome, his skill on the piano is awesome!
Chinchilla only wears the nails when performing haha. She takes them off afterwards.
If you want to hear songs that make you feel something check out Lewis Capaldi. The man has an AMAZING voice but his lyrics make this battle hardened Veteran cry every time. He unfortunately has had to take time off because in the last two years he started with Tourettes Sydnrome and it gets worse when he's nervous and it's effected his singing but man he has such a beautiful voice. He's also realllllly funny. Like funnier than most comedians.
But check out his songs Wish You The Best, Someone You Loved and Before You Go, but make sure you have tissues ready!
Please also check out Shawn James’ “Brother.” An emotional take on a friend suffering from depression and the will to continue.
You absolutely wonderful. My child is going through cancer. And it's really crazy. But we appreciate you! So much mate. Going to my child in Madison Wisconsin. And doing everything we can don't get me wrong. Everything is fine. Just want you to know I will lay with Kris after I leave Dubuque, thank you mate
My opinion differs from some here, don't get me wrong I love first reactions, but I also enjoy someone that has listened and took the time to study the song and artist. I think that is of value to the first time listener that may not appreciate or just miss the deeper meanings or talent involved in the video. ❤️
Both of Ren's released collaborations with Chinchilla, Chalk Outlines and How To Be Me, are Ren composition but adapted by both Ren and Chinchilla to fit a duet. You can actually find earlier versions on social media, with Ren singing them, with more use of the singular and slight lyrical and musical differences elsewhere. They're both intensely personal songs. The first describing his experiences with prescribed drugs, the other about how the suicide of his best friend affected him.
I really like your perspective.
Basically we love you, thank you
There is a song called "Precious" on the Big Push page- which is a band Ren was in - there is a video that looks like a scrapbook, great video to the song. Also there is a really old song by Ren called 'Patience' - look for the one on Ayesha Jones page, there is a great intro of him talking. This song was from before he got the Lyme disease diagnosis, so still miss-diagnosed.
You say you want to hear songs that will make you cry... many of NFs songs. He's on a different level. Dax, another good one. Sleep Token... Are you really ok ... another one up your alley
Tool - Wings for Marie pt1 & 2
An emotional song you might like Leave by Glen Hansard
emotional songs? Monsters by James Blunt ( saying goodbye to a family member ) , Je suis Malade -by Lara Fabian ( subtitled version - relationship heartbreak), Piece by piece by Kelly Clarkson ( The American Idol live version - daddy issues ) Sorry for the tears 🤷🏻♂️ :)
I’m a new follower of your channel. You said you were a sucker for an emotional song, with that you should check out James Blunt’s song “The Girl That Never Was”. This song makes my eyes water every time.
I also have had the random thought about the nails in the bathroom 😂
It’s very very weird people get upset they don’t get to see someone see something for the first time, even tho they’ve already seen it probably 20 times themselves. If you think about it, it’s just odd. What is it they think they’re getting robbed of? And if they got it, how different would anything be? It really is a self manufactured problem. I have a hard time even understanding what it is exactly they’re thinking they would gain. Because the way they act it’s emotionally important to them. That doesn’t seem normal to me. But I’m not a psychiatrist, just been to a lot of rehabs, so what do I know 🤣. Reaction video comment sections are strange places man. Reactions aren’t mutually exclusive with first watches, but the two have been attached in the UA-cam world.
Thank you for getting it!
@@delightfulpod Which means you still don’t understand what reaction videos are.
To me, this song resonates on treating the symptoms, not the problem(s). Because we often can't fix the problems, so the symptoms are our only avenue. Consider it next time you listen. I'll avoid interpreting it outright, but give it a ponder.
If no one has yet recommended these other two for you, and since you asked for tear jerkers;
try their other duet, "How To Be Me (live)", not as much a tear jerk, but if you exercise, i'd avoid doing ab day prior.
and "For Joe" by just Ren. As long as you're paying attention, this one's actually hard to get through the video without a tear falling, doesn't really seem to matter how many times you watch it. Though, one verse is from one of your most recent reactions, so i don't know if you might want to delay it for that reason.
Bonus news, Both these two collabed again just last month, and recorded two more tracks for us, as yet to be released.
THAT song is WAY TOO SHORT. Thanks for the reaction.
At the end Ren's voice is dominant at first and he is in focus, but then the focus transitions to Chinchilla and Ren's figure is blurred at the same time that her voice becomes more dominant than Ren's until only Chinchilla is singing the last line and Ren is not in the frame at all as if he has been erased.
What a great description of the video and the filming.
they are medical records at the beginning
That makes so much sense! Thank you for connecting it for me!
Yes. I took antidepressant and all it did is f me up. No less depression, just nonsense
Oh and Fallen in Reverse... Last Resort.
You wanna cry watch " why did you leave us " by NF

Recommend emotional ballad: IU Love Wins All
You really want an emotional song? You need to check out Daniel mustard covering creep. Few things have hit me harder then that
❤️👌
Curious... have you recommended Hi Ren to any paitents of yours???
If so... how did they receive it???
Edit... lol... figured ya prolly have! Still... curious about their response!
I Know ya cant say specifically... just in general!
I do! It’s so fun to bring his music into my sessions and unpack what comes up with my clients.
Maybe I am reading too much into this, but.
there is significance to not seeing Chinchilla until the last moment, it shows how Ren was not aware of his surroundings.
I will even take it a step further, it's like Chinchilla doesn't recognize Ren is there until she is almost on top of him. Watch how she stands and walks toward the camera and it's not until the last minute does she turn to Ren as if to say, where did you come from.
How do you wipe? Those nails are temp. Like make-up. So not on forever. How do ppl not know this
my hot take is that Chinchilla is not actually there. The story seems to be Ren isolating himself and deep in his thoughts. as the camera pans around, Chinchilla isn't there. after the flickering lights (supernatural events) she appears. could she be a previously deceased friend or victim of the mental health machine that has returned to claim him. it is her voice and presence at the end and he has faded from view.
Ohhh that’s a cool interpretation!
Chinchilla only wears the nails when performing. It's actually really frustrating watching reactors become obsessed with the nails and lose focus on the masterful performance from these two amazing artists. Why are people so terrified of anything even slightly out of their norm?
That’s like having a 2 foot mohawk and wondering why people notice it. Or the people that wear super revealing clothes and wonder the same thing.
You reallllly should react to James Blunt - Monsters. Bring tissues
Just added it to their queue. Great recommendation!
@@Improveology it really is a great song and is powerful!!!
Wait, are you listening to the songs ahead of time? You really shouldnt do that. The whole point of a reaction channel is to let people see your initial reaction
As a therapist it's smarte and professional for her to listen to the songs ahead of time.
@@JasakaD why
@@DomAtaGlance it isn't obvious? In her field she can not speak out of hand and outside of her mental health professional oath without risk of lawsuits. Her words even if emotional have to be considered and measured. It's unreasonable to expect her to blind react and it would be irresponsible for her to do so.
Yeah... its not a 1st time or blind reaction. Just a reaction. Nothing wrong here 😅
Where did people hear that? I don’t understand the rationale.
"Therapist reacts"... right. She already knows the song by heart, but she "reacts".
I'm confused. How is this a reaction when you already know the lyrics enough to lip sync them ahead of them being sung? This is just a video of you watching something you're already familiar with. That's not a reaction. It's commentary in review, and loses much, if not all, of the appeal of reaction videos - being able to watch someone's very first and natural reaction to something they've not previously seen or heard.
She's honest about watching them first up front. There's no problem with her style. It's different. I like that she gets to know the song first before giving her analysis. It's cool and different and I like it.
She mentioned she shows it to patients, she is using it as a tool. That has to be the highest compliment for Ren and Chinchilla to receive.
Who said a reaction and a first watch is mutually exclusive?
Gotta add to the constructive criticism? First time reactions are the real thing, posting a reaction to a song that you've been listening to all week and know all the words to isn't really a reaction is it? It's more of a critique.
A person can react to something at any time. What’s missing from it, and why do people need it?
I think the words ”reacting to” is misused here. When I see a reaction video, I want to see a first time reaction.
Why? I don’t understand what difference it makes. I really am curious what the issue people have with that is.
@@81ghale A reaction is just that: a reaction. Not a review, not an analyzis. I want to see a reactors first time response to something, reliving the first time I saw it myself.
@@jonasmandersson you just said it. You want to see them react to their first time seeing it. They can react at any time. You just want to watch them the first time they hear or see it. There are different types of reactions. There’s even a term for some, like a “knee jerk reaction”, which is similar to what you’re wanting. We can react to anything we’ve seen before, and a lot of times our reaction is different after some time has passed, but it’s still a reaction.
@@81ghale You do you bro.
Wait did you already know this song before? Not cool, not a reaction... Sorry can't sub, which is something I do for everyone I enjoy. But yo don't lie in your title. We don't want to see someone talk about a song that they know about in a reaction video. We want to see someone encounter something new and see it for the first time...
I think you would really enjoy NF-Happy✨🤍☘️🕊️✨💯
