In this video I answer some questions from the community about the RadRunner by Rad Power Bikes. I also go over some new and interesting accessories that I added to the bike!!!
Have watched what seems like hundreds of videos about the RadRunner. Your set up is genius in practicality that no one has represented thus far in my research. I will be implicating your ideas on my very own 1st RadRunner that is now in the process of shipping to my house. Thanks for putting it out there. 👍
wondering if you could show a video how you went about mounting the passenger seat kind of more forward, i like the idea of just using that for the main seat.

Dude it would be great to get an updated video. How's the bike been? What sort of hiccups have you experienced? What sort of things do you love? Wish were different? Might help us choose the right one.
We just bought two of these and we're pumped to get them! Great video! Only thing I'd suggest is that you link your reviewed items in the video description. Thanks for the solid reviews!
Great news Grant! You will have a ton of fun, no doubt. I'll do my best in the future to provide more links of the gear on my bike. Thank you and happy riding!
Sliding the seat forward was genius. Liked and subscribed just for that! Bike looks awesome. You did a great job. Ditch the ear pods during the recording though.
You put a lot of thought into your bike. Great video and thanks for sharing. I ordered the Mastiff bags in red for my black bike. Loving my bike so far too!
so informative, and your delivery keeps folks watching, or not skipping. I am in the install phase now, and now I see there is so much more I can be looking at. The hill question and answer is helpful as I live in San Francisco. I work in Brisbane, and luckily can commute to work on back roads. However the hills had me a little nervous.
Going through the same experiance myself, with a different bike. One thing I've learnt in a lot of years with cycles and motorbikes is that security cables do their best work linked to something immobile, and the best wheel-to-wheel cable in the world won't stop some joker picking up a bike and putting it in the back of a van. Even if you just run the cable through a loop of the cable on the bike parked next bay, that makes it an awkward thing to steal. Oh and in the UK lights mounted on clothing/helmets instead of the bike itself aren't enough: Doesn't stop you doubling up what's on the bike and any increase in road presence is always a good thing. Keep it up guy.
Nice job. I like your seat modification. The stock RadRunner solo seat is very uncomfortable for me and the two aftermarket seats from Amazon that I tried were more comfortable, but too high. How is your modified passenger seat working out for pedaling? Did you have to drill any additional hole in the frame to bolt it on?
Loving your videos. Best practical RadRunner videos I've seen yet. Also, the exact accessories I would look at if I ended up getting one. Had a few questions/requests. 1) Can you and your son both fit with the modified passenger package and basket? 2) Are you able to curb hob with small tires and controller/kickstand down low? Where I would go I would need to on occasion and it might be a deal breaker for me. 3) My biggest question/request I can't find anywhere - can you do a demo of what can actually fit in the center console? It's the main reason I would buy that model over the City or Rover version and I can't find anywhere online that actually show a practical view of what would actually fit in it. Thanks! Keep up the good work! (and I love that you are doing this with you son)
Thank you rockmesteady for the question. 1) Yes 2) Not sure but a good research project for me to do. 3) Time to do some research and possibly a new video. Stay tuned!
DadRunner thanks for the quick and thorough response. I’d love to see the results of your research and those questions in a future video soon! Keep up the great work and enjoy your bike for all of us dreaming of one!
Any chance of a 1 year update on your experience with this bike? Maybe anything you added or anything you removed because it didn't work? Also in the Seattle area so I am interested in your experience.
Great job! I own a Rad Runner and also had lots of fun customizing it. I don't know your profession, but you would make a great teacher, your presentations are excellent! I hope you do more and keep up the good work!
Are you planning on upgrading the bike? I saw someone upgrade their hub and are curious about the acceleration and top speed. Happy to see someone finally going in to detail about this bike!
Hello Mads, Thank you for the question. More than likely I'll find my way into upgrading the bike at some point. My plan is to ride it for a while and upgrade things as I go.
Love your vids. Just bought 2 Runners and a Rover 5. Your modification videos gave me a lot of great info to consider. Bringing the rear seat forward was a good idea but I wonder if the down angle on the front of the pad affects the comfort of the ride. Also compromises the buddy ride ability of the seats. It still looks like the Runner seat situation has some creative mod opportunities to be investigated. Thanks for the videos!
First off, thank you for putting these videos out there. I really appreciate your perspective. Having the hardest time deciding between the RadRunner and the RadMini 4! All other distinguishing factors aside, in our honest opinion, is the RadRunner a decent option for someone wanting to ease into biking for exercise? I just have some reservations about the lack of gears amounting to a lack of varying pedal resistance for exercise (when I want it). Thanks again!
I am 3 months shy of 70 my spouse and I love our rad runner s I never liked excersise we can’t ride often enough it is for us like going out on a date when we were in our 20’s a continuation of our youth enjoy
Can I suggest that you order a pack of inexpensive BLACK 3M reflective tapes/sheets from Amazon to dress up your bike? I have an all black ebike and as I didn't want to add any yellow or white reflective tapes to mar its stealth look, I found the black ones! During the day, it's not easy to spot but once light shine on them, they reflect... though not as bright as the standard day-glo versions. I could see your bike benefited by having such on the large container box and along the fork tubes? Ride and stay safe!
Time for another update? How are you now finding the bike after 2 years? Do you still have it or have you upgraded to the Rad Runner Plus ? How have you found the battery? Are you still using the original one or have you had to buy a new one? I think they are a bit like mobile phone batteries in that they can only be charged so many times. All the best from Paisley here in Scotland, probably the only place that gets more rain each year (50 inches) than Seattle (37 inches)🌨🌨🌨🌨🌨🌨
@dadrunner thanks for this helpful video, I'm just about ready to buy one. I'm intrigued by your seat and rear basket mod, great idea. I read in one of the comments that you can still fit a passenger on there, which is great! Would love to see a photo or video of that in action--can passengers still rest their feet on the pegs? I'm 5'10 and the 2 people in my life that may be passengers (wife and son) are 5'8 and 5'11. Trying to figure out if we're too big to ride together (2 of us at a time) with a mod like this, any thoughts? Thanks!
I wish I found your page sooner and videos sooner, I ordered the RadRunner 1 but in black right before Christmas Eve should get it this Tuesday. I love how it looks, it’s smaller which is a big plus, I have a ebike I’ve built out of my old bicycle but it’s becoming hard to get on and off it now. Can’t wait for mine to come in, also can you post more videos on it? Do you like the intigraded break light and did you move it on the bike or is it still where it goes?
Sherman C - these are “military-style” bags.... there 4 billion on Amazon and believe it or not, if they’re low cost & made by some bizarre company name BUT have good reviews, GRAB IT because even the Chinese knockoffs are typically VERY solid... I own MANY MANY bags like this. What you want to look for are bags with a “MOLLE” system... that’s the military term for the loops he put the lock in on the front, which I’d describe as “female molle” and this style bag will typically have the “male molle STRAPS” on the back to secure it to another larger bag w/ molle, or a belt, or whatever the person wants. The molle system makes bags like this MODULAR & CUSTOMIZABLE.. when purchasing a bag like this, just make sure the REVIEWS ARE GOOD & MENTION THE MATERIAL IS GOOD STRONG QUALITY. BELIEVE ME, it’s hard to screw these bags up, so very few do, but when there’s a garbage molle bag on amazon, the reviews WILL IDENTIFY THEM FOR YOU. Boys don’t play with their bags.
Hello Carlos. The bags straps are like a belt for your waist with notches. They go over the frame rail and back again. Vary easy and adjustable. Hope that makes sense? Happy riding!
Hi dude I’m from the Uk just purchased radrunner 2 looking for the link for your side bags but can’t find dude great vids but you haven’t updated fir a while
ive located the mastiff website but am unable to find the bike bags you have. would you mind sharing a link? love the set up and am doing somewhat of the same to my own radrunner2 thanks for your time and efforts
This is a great video and I love what you did with your bike. I'm looking at several of the same upgrades. It would be incredibly helpful if you added links to the products you added (become an affiliate cough cough*). lol. I never found your bags on Amazon. Would love to find some replacement lights.
Did you drill more holes to move the passenger seat up? If not and it just sits on the original seat position, is the plastic underneath the seat damaged at all?
Thank you Vince for the question. I did not need to drill more holes to move the seat forward. As of now, there is very little wear on the plastic under the seat.
Hey cool video! Thanks for sharing so much info. I am considering buying my first eBike soon, (maybe 2, one for the wife also!) I believe the RadRunner has cadence type sensing on the pedals which senses only that you are pedaling & not how hard u are pedaling. Some say that this can be a limitation, makes a bike inferior to one that has a true torque sensor on the rear sprocket. Bikes with true torque sensors are said to do a better job of sensing how hard you are pedalling and applying a proportionate amount of power assist. I am wondering what your experience has been with the Rad. DO you find the power assist jerky or unpredictable in any way? Is the bike easy to start off on a hill (without using the throttle?) What about the fact that it has only 1 rear gear (sprocket) Do you find that a limitation in any way such as starting off or any difficulty pedaling the bike when the power assist is off (or a dead battery?) Appreciate your feedback very much!
This was awesome. Wish I saw this video before I went thru the same scenario on the bike seat. Got the cloud9 too. Didn’t work for me either. Let me know what seat u did go with. I’m still searching. Also where did you get the horn? With people not hearing You cause they are wearing earbuds, Rads lil bell doesn’t help
First I would like to say awesome videos!! Would you happen to know/or have an idea if this bike too tall for someone 5'6? Would be nice to see the bike in action fully viewed. Again Awesome videos!!
Bluewolf, thank you for the positive comment. I am about 5'3" so my guess is @ 5'6" you will be just fine, even with the seat on. I do recommend you upgrade the seat however, the original seat is quite hard. Hope this helps? Happy riding!
I want one of these so badly for commuting to college but the idea of the bike being unattended for several hours while I’m at class gives me anxiety. I’d like that LCD display but I feel like that would get snatched after the first week.
Since you've altered the seating position and added the bike bag, can this realistically be used with an adult passenger? Just thinking of peg location, the lock, etc. Looks awesome, btw. I just ordered the upgraded display and will likely add the light as it seems to be easy to keep charged via the USB
Looks great! Can you tell me the model# of the Abus lock you have? I have the identical bags coming, but too many locks to choose from and various sizes.
Hello Lovely, thank you for the question. Here is the link to the bags. smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B01MDU3R2C/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o08_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
To "The French Guy and Derek", thank you for the interest in this topic. I am not a tall human as Derek stated. I purchased this ebike due to that very reason. However on "www.radpowerbikes.com" Leg length inseam on the RadRunner is good up to 34". Thank you Guys for the interest in this channel and happy riding!
@@dadrunner8056 all good dude. I'm gravitational impaired as well so your vids have helped me and answered some questions I had. Is there a reason why you went with the Runner instead of the Wagon? I've narrowed it down to those two for me.
Where you go man? I hope your doing ok. Hope you can post some of the adventuress and misadventures you are having on the bike. Rsdrunner is the bike implant on getting (I want the foldable one tho but I might reconsider but my apartment is very small)
Hey man, why did you go with this bike over the RadWagon? Just curious... I’m about to order the RadWagon 4 on Monday so I can wait til SEPTEMBER to actually ride it, but this bike was my runner up (especially because this green color matches my wrangler 100%) - I decided I wanted the heftier payload capacity and cargo space and knew I could just grab a sheet of vinyl wrap to make it any color I please once its here.. It looks like you went with the RAD brand basket & front rack, but since ordering the bike, have you found a better option for either that you wish you’d done instead?
Based on the numbers you showed that hill was a little more than an 8% grade, pretty steep. Here's how you compute it: You said it was about a 1/3 of a mile, which is 1760', the rise was 213', therefore 1760 ÷ 213= 8.26%
Have watched what seems like hundreds of videos about the RadRunner. Your set up is genius in practicality that no one has represented thus far in my research. wondering if you could show a video how you went about mounting the passenger seat kind of more forward, i like the idea of just using that for the main seat.
We were wondering as well and if there's enough room to mount a Yepp seat behind it.
Would you mind adding links to the accessories in video description? Thanks!

Rad Runner should pay you for doing these things - amazing. I have a similar mirror on my mountain bike for street traffic - very nerdy indeed!
Really well done. Great info presented in a clear and concise format. Love it.
Awesome Tom, thank you for the kind words. Happy riding!

@@dadrunner8056 could you like where you got the bags? Looking but can't find
Thank you for your videos. Could you show a video of how to rig the passenger seat to fit as you have it (without the single post seat)?
Hello Joanne, thank you for the question. I will work on something to provide a more detailed explanation soon.
@@dadrunner8056 any update on a video for this mod?
@@dadrunner8056 i agree. how did you get a back rack on with the passenger package? its an unusual setup and i'm sure a lot of people wonder how
Any word on an update for this? I love your configuration.
Does moving the passenger seat forward interfere with opening the center console?
That other seatpost with the three bolts is called a tripod post. You can absolutely get other seats for it. Just search tripod seats:)
Sliding the seat forward was genius. Liked and subscribed just for that! Bike looks awesome. You did a great job. Ditch the ear pods during the recording though.
I have been lookimg at Rad Powerbikes forever. I'm so glad you talked about your height. Thanks for the videos!!

Thanks for the informative content. Thumbs up for the R/C buggies!

Have you found a way to charge a phone (from the bike battery) while cycling?

It would be incredibly helpful if you added links to the products you added (become an affiliate cough cough*). lol. I never found your bags on Amazon. Would love to find some replacement lights.
brilliant
Does the center console open from the front? Looks like the passenger seat won't allow opening from the front.
Great setup! Does the new seat position interfere with the center console opening?
I'd like to know too please..
@@tazbud33 I think the whole top piece of the console comes off, so it doesn't look like the seat would block that
I want one of these so badly for commuting to college but the idea of the bike being unattended for several hours while I’m at class gives me anxiety. I’d like that LCD display but I feel like that would get snatched after the first week.
Where do you buy that box that mounts the frame in betweeen the seat and handlebars?
20mm or 40mm ammo cans would look good in place of the bags.
Clean setup
I just I just love the bag. Can you leave a link I tried looking for them on Amazon and I could not find them?
Hello Lovely, thank you for the question. Here is the link to the bags. smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B01MDU3R2C/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o08_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
What tensioner ring are you talking about with the seat post? The one inside the actual bike frame? (To move the passenger seat forward)
Any update on the bike?
Very nice set up man! I think I'll go exactly the same way. I'm 6'1 and I'm about worried about the comfort in your configuration. How tall are you?
he's 5'4"
he said it in another vid
I'm going to get a dutch style bike so I can mount a huge battery bucket onto it. Would love to buy this bare frame though.
What light is that under your bike? I want to get one!
OHigherThanStarsO my question also!
@@ryanschreiber9183 I waited the whole video for him to discuss it! He only mentioned it for a second! Tease! Haha
I have the exact question. What light is that under your bike and how did your mount/power it? Great video! Thanks.
I really like your seat mod. The stock seat looks very uncomfortable. Look into a Bolton bike upgrade. It gives more on tap torque.
Hello all,
I would like to ask if the RadRunner Passenger Pack 2.0 is comfortable? How soft/hard is the seat approximately?
Based on the numbers you showed that hill was a little more than an 8% grade, pretty steep. Here's how you compute it: You said it was about a 1/3 of a mile, which is 1760', the rise was 213', therefore 1760 ÷ 213= 8.26%
