    Could you further expand on how you constructed your flip up passenger seat? Another video of the details would be amazing! I think it is awesome and would love to make something similar. Where to drill the holes/ screws used etc...???

    • @BenLandersMedia
      @BenLandersMedia  4 роки тому +4

      Screw pack is linked up in the description and at 21:28 there is a picture/diagram of where the holes go and which screws I used in each hole.
      1 - Cut the wood with a jigsaw by drawing a line around the seat while the seat is placed on a 1x8
      For all the screws I just lined up the size of the screw with a drill bit that was the same size and then once I drilled the main hole I used a larger bit and drilled in reverse to create an inset for the screw head so they would be level with the wood
      2 - Holes for the seat - for the holes to attach the seat to the wood I dusted some chalk in the holes of the seat and then laid it on top of the wood and slapped it so the chalk made marks on the wood were I needed to drill holes to attach the seat
      3 - For the holes that you put the stabilizing screws you just place the wood piece on the back rack and drill upward through the holes in the rack (I would use a couple clamps if you have them to make sure it stays in one spot)
      4 - Drill holes for the para cord and cut what you need and loop it through the wood
      5 - Attach the seat to the wood with the screws
      6 - Put the seat on the rack and make sure everything lines up and then attach the pipe clamps to create the hinge
      7 - tie the paracord the correct distance that you want seat to lean back
      8 - I screwed a small square piece of scrap wood to act as a spacer between my child seat and the wood base (you can see it in the video) so that the exposed screws wouldn't damage my child seat
      Done :-)

    I bought the center container & you are right. It’s bulky and can be annoying, especially when I take my bike upstairs 😭But I like that I can put my phone down for the map & no one can see what I have in it.

    Great video. Thank you for sharing. Pls show how you use the locks in a future video. I have the (2) New York Cinch (formly noose) for three bikes (Runner, Rover and mini step thru) and I struggled locking inside the the locking triangle on the Runner with the plastic passenger package guard. Thanks again.

    • @BenLandersMedia
      @BenLandersMedia  4 роки тому

      Thanks! I normally use the Noose with my Rad Wagon, but when I've used it on the Runner I had the child seat on, so I just used the tubing right above the battery, basically below the bike seat - put the noose around the bike lock and then lock the padlock straight to the tubing.

    I know all about that. I did the trailer thing too and now both are too big for it. Living in a hilly area too and that can be more challenging than I'd want. It may cost a bit, but I'm guessing you can add gears to it assuming the frame is the same as the current Rad Runner 2.
    The RadWagon was a bit scary for me to ride with the kids. Just a bit long and heavy for me in the areas I ride. Also be careful, if there's even a slight slope to the side the center stand isn't secure. My kids almost fell. Luckily I was close by next to them when the whole bike was tilting over.

    Hey, love the video and thanks to tour reviews I just got my Rad Runner, it's simply great. Now, one question, does that seat with a back rest (the one you have in the wagon model) fits well the runner or do I need to have skills to adapt to the bike?

    • @BenLandersMedia
      @BenLandersMedia  3 роки тому

      I think it would fit pretty easily, but haven't installed it myself so I can't say for sure - the runner has plenty of space on the cargo rack so I don't see why it wouldn't

    Thank you so much for this video! I build a similar hinged platform for my passenger seat (based off this video) about a year ago so that I could swap between it and my daughter's Yepp child seat quickly. She has since graduated to the passenger seat, so I need to get rid of the hinged plank system that I built. Contact me if you're interested! Free to a loving RadRunner owner.

    Super helpful review and parts list. I would add a couple things:
    1) Tribit StormBox Micro bluetooth speaker is smaller, cheaper, more portable than the JBL, and has shockingly good sound.
    2) Controller / Display upgrade doubles your amps, which basically doubles your torque for going uphill. Not much added speed, but the extra torque is great for climbing, passing, and clearing busy intersections.

      Usually I have a backpack in the Milk Crate and put it on top of the backpack and then bungee the cargo net on top of it - you could put it in the water bottle holder too, but it might bounce around a little so I like to stick with the backpack method because it's less likely to damage the speaker

    • @BenLandersMedia

    • @BenLandersMedia

      I think it really just depends where your riding and how busy the traffic is in the area. I have ridden with my 6 year old on the cushion around the neighborhood and on greenway trails, but wouldn't take her on big roads with heavy traffic
      She also like riding on the seat and then I sit on the pad with my arms around her - I probably wouldn't do this on heavy trafficed roads either though

    I have an almost 6 year old and am considering a Rad, either the wagon or the runner plus. We need to ride up a pretty steep 1 mile hill though that has some traffic on it to get to school. My daughter is a bit timid so I want to have something secure for her on the back but I don’t know if I want the weight of the wagon for the hill as that seems to have more secure accessories for kids. There wasn't an option when I was looking, but I think I would have still gone with the Runner - of course gears and the display would be nice, but I don't find them that necessary for what I'm using it for. It really just depends on where your riding and what you want eg.) if you are going to upgrade and get the fenders, passenger pack, display anyway then it makes more sense to just go ahead and get the plus, if that stuff doesn't matter as much to you then the Runner is an awesome bike with a big payload and lots of versatility.

      Not sure, the Yepp seat in the video is recommended since Rad designed the rack to fit its attachment system specifically

    Ben, does it handle steeper hills OK with the throttle?

    • @BenLandersMedia
      @BenLandersMedia  3 роки тому +1

      It really just depends on how steep the hill is (and also what your payload is - if I'm solo it's alot easier than if my wife is riding or even my oldest kid) , if it's a slight incline no problem, but if it's a steep hill like a 45 degree angle it's gonna be really tough - I can get through the hills in my area, but the steeper ones, I just normally avoid and find another route

    • @BenLandersMedia

      Not sure, just a normal sheetrock anchor pack for hanging stuff around the house - basically something similar to this www.homedepot.com/p/E-Z-Ancor-Twist-N-Lock-50-lbs-Drywall-Anchors-with-Screws-25-Pack-25200/100133106

      Yep - of course you can choose how much effort you want to put in by controlling the pedal assist level - the lower the level the more work you'll be doing.

    It went together easily in less than an hour. ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxHL1v1R3NE5x4KiYfyt8dnQmyNYz7qi5L Make sure the front fork is forward or the pedals will hit the front tire. Tires are both a little soft so it needs air before I ride it. The rear wheel didn't come with a clamp regular bolts hold it on. The front had the clamp. No scratches out of box. Rims are a little off with a slight wobble. They could have spent more time with the spoke tool fixing the run out. So far out of the box I'm happy with it. I did replace the pedals with a nice aftermarket set. After riding it a bit my A$$ is a bit sore so I ordered another seat. Overall I'm nearly 60 and didn't ride a bike in 30 years. I like my new 29" Schwinn. It will be used for casual rides with my friend.
