- I made a corrected version in the form of darkening the eyes for Batman. I think that this is an actual problem for those who notice these details in films, etc. If you like my work, then support me in these difficult times

the eyeshadow fits the arkham batman surprisingly well
Wish he didn't include animated Batman though because that doesn't make any sense.
Agreed
Bale and affleck too
Arkham Batman looks like he should be a member of Ramstein and I am all for it! Gotta say the eye make up is a really nice touch.
@@bigdoubleu117 animated batman didnt do it for the same reason. He just wanted to continue the tradition.
For the animated series Batman, it makes sense for him not to be wearing eye makeup because his suit has white eye lenses and his eyes are not exposed.
agreed. animated was only error. rest was legit
I always wondered whether white eyes in comics and animated are just a way for artists and animators to put less effort into creating the facial features or do they really wear white lenses canonically. Sometimes other characters have their eyes exposed wearing a mask in the same show while Batman doesn’t but that’s a very rare occurence so it might be the latter possibility after all?
@@rhetiq9989 it just looks cool
@@rhetiq9989 Well, it didn't hurt that good eyes are hard to draw, but from what I understand superheroes like The Phantom started having blank eyes because of classical statues. Even though sometimes it just meant the paint had long since worn off, alot of ancient Greek or Roman marble art featuring gods or heroes had plain white eyes, so superheroes followed suit.
@@rhetiq9989 Depends on the iteration. Some are just to look cool but there are specific instances where they show or hide their eyes. A few Batman writers have added explanations; like the white lenses are high-tech displays or prevent facial recognition. There was also a Flash comic where Barry Allen noted that Batman wears white lenses so they're a real part of the costume that Batman wears in that universe at least.
Here's an interesting note: the script for _The Batman Begins_ actually includes a scene in which Bruce Wayne is wiping off eyeshadow from the mask. It's during a scene just before he enters the party near the end of the film. He's quickly taking off his suit, slipping into a tux, and just before he's about to go into public Alfred catches him and reminds him about the eyeshadow. It's really interesting how this idea of the makeup was in the script, but they decided to leave it out of the final cut.
Reading your text, I imagined how it could look like. And you know what? - It's damn good!!
By the way, I first learned about this from you. Thank you!
@@ellejart I only learned about this since I recently started reading film scripts to see how they translated it into movie form. There's a ton of interesting differences from the screenplay and the actual film. Another instance is that apparently Bruce Wayne was already well adept at martial arts before running away on the ship. The scene where he confronts Falcone as a younger man is vastly different from the film.
@@Profile__1 Woah, that's awesome. Where I can find those scrips?
@@freddyjosereginomontalvo4667Hey sorry for the late response, but basically you can just google these PDFs online honestly. It's pretty easy!
I'm imagining somthing like the scene in The Incredibles, when Bob shows up for his wedding and Lucius reminds him he still has the mask on.
At first I didn't like it, but now I do. Its like you can still see that there is still a piece of Batman even without the mask; like a visual representation that the Batman is inseparable from Bruce Wayne.
Exactly what I thought
Damn, that's hits hard.
Bruce Wayne is the mask.
@@tylercrowe1259 yes and no.
There are obviously different versions of him, but for the most part there are 4 main faces to Bruce/Batman. There's the Bruce the public sees; usually either a playboy or a philanthropist but often times the former before becoming the ladder. Love interests like Vicki Vale and Silver St Cloud get to see a persona closer to the true Bruce but are only allowed to see so much. Then there is the Batman that villains and most other heroes see - the dark knight with a terrifying presence. And lastly there is the true Bruce/Batman. The characters that see this face are basically limited to just Alfred, the Robbins, and Barbara; but other characters such as Superman, the other Bat-family members, Gordon (especially), and even at times Joker can all occasionally catch glimpses of the true face.
The true face is kind of where the "broken child" and the "elemental monster" merge. Batman and Bruce are both masks, or maybe 2 different sides to the same face might be more accurate.
@@HughMansonMD it's a joke goofy
Let's appreciate the fact that once the cowl is off and the eye shadow is revealed almost all them continue to look menacing
It makes them look more menacing tbh

I am actually shocked that they do. I thought it would look silly af but god damn it looks fraking amazing
The Batfleck one looks really cool.
Some look terrible.
Michael Keaton
The animated series version
And BatFleck
Others were.... so-so at best
I'm impressed at the fact that this looks good on ALL iterations. And to think they didn't do it because they thought it would look silly. Perfect example of needing to fully commit and take risks to achieve something brilliant.
It looks better without it though
@@penguinwolf3330 It honestly doesn't.
@@penguinwolf3330 Nah fam, the eye make up looks badass.
Doesn't look good on the animated one. The animated batman has glowing white eyes
Feels like a warpaint ya know?
I always disliked how the eye paint disappears in Batman Returns when he's about to unmask. It was so noticeable.
WOW you are right, I just looked for the scene and you are right. XD
@Can't aim fo sheet when the bait is obvious
Yeah we fixed that years ago.
It was definitely the most blatant one.
The eye shadow honestly looks better, when the mask is removed… it also makes tactical and functional sense to have it. Plus is looks cool.
@John_Constantine_1999I known the products like that promotes better adjustment for rubber equipment. Also protect the skin against a harsh contact with dirt and sand. The black one it’s good to blur the facial features. It’s harder recognize the guy without it.
I think the main reason live action depictions of Batman started doing that (Batman '89 onward) is because the black paint make the eyes blend into the mask to capture the look of having the white eye slits from the comics and be able to change shape like they're depicted as doing but without hiding the eyes so the actor can act with them. I think it was Bat in The Sun that had him with the black eye paint but also white contacts that hide his pupils and iris. Looked comic accurate as well as inhuman and intimidating. If the Batman '89 novelization is anything to go by, he was originally going to have mirror pieces over the eyes like sunglasses. I don't think that would have worked.
I ran into an argument with a guy that was claiming that Robert sucks because he wore eye shadow, I told him and other people in his comment that every Batman actor wore eyeshadow and somehow disappeared immediately. His initial reply was "That doesn't change the fact that Robert sucks as Batman." At this point people are idiots nowadays.
BrUh
Robert Pattinson was a badass Batman!!! Idc what other people say
🤣🤣🤣☠
Robert owns the walk of the Batman.
Those type of people are stuck in the "hating on Robert Pattinson because of Twilight" days tbh.
IMO, this works for all of these except the animated series. We pretty explicitly couldn't see his actual eyes, so there was no reason for him to be wearing eyeshadow.
Maybe he just liked the way it made him feel
Only Patterson and Keaton look good.
@@chadjohnson738 lol
This was literally the first time I seen the eyeshadow on a animated Batman.
There's an episode where he's trapped in a wax house I believe and it's revealed he has a mask under his cowl
This has actually always bugged me in the movies it's always clear hes wearing black paint around his eyes but when the mask has come off in the past absolutely nothing 😂
It's not paint, it's eye shadow. (Makeup.)
Such a minor detail that honestly improves things.
The batfleck stare down is way more menacing with the eyeshadow. Hard to believe it was never there in the first place. Seems like it would be more effort to make it dissapear than to just leave it.
he is a supermans bitch in a dungeon, its not his role to be manacing there, the eyeshadow would become meme for years to come and would probably damage afflecks career and his personal life

Always wished they kept the makeup in The Dark Knight to show the duality between Bruce and Jokers eyes

Not me. Bruce's eye makeup is always my first curiosity on every Batman title
Prob since Bruce is younger in this film
That was one of my main gripes, he has to have that black makeup around eyes otherwise it looks a bit ridiculous but it's omitted in every movie, you never see that process. Very early on-screen Batman flicks omitted the makeup entirely and bare skin in that black outfit surely doesn't look as cool. I'd think Nolan's Batman would at least show a glimpse of removing that makeup in a couple of scenes but no dice. Good thing they dealt with it here.

It always bugged the hell out of me. Tim Burton could have easily solved the issue by using a different angle or cutting to another shot as he started to rip the mask off.

I think the eye shadows looks good because it kinda reminds me of the main character from The Crow, the one that stars Brandon Lee before his death.

@@killabean990 Because he…ya know…played Beetlejuice
Because the makeup wasn't originally meant to be makeup Bruce put on before putting on the mask in-universe. It was just a fix to avoid having the skin around his eyes stand out through the eye holes.
Im glad they finaly took inspiration from Kickass and made the eyemakeup a essential part of the suit. Im hoping this becomes the standard now.
The eye fix actually makes all the versions of Bruce look more menacing. Wonder what made previous filmmakers and animators drop that detail.
My take is that it wasn't actually supposed to be eye shadow, it was just to help the mask appear more seamless around the eyes. This is why the makeup disappeared when the mask was removed.
If you've seen shots of the mask without the eye make up, it looks dumb.
I think is because makeup is commonly associated with women and feminine men. And most heroes, if not all, tend to represent the peak of masculinity. So I assume is because the film industry would perceive showing Batman with eyeshadow as not masculine enough.
