The L-Cluster is probably my personal favourite storyline in Stellaris, both because I find nanites a very interesting piece of technology, but also because the concept of a swarm of nanomachines getting bored and simulating the lives of the creators they killed to pass the time is a darkly hilarious one.
There should be a story where the gatebuilders defeated the nanite swarm, we discover a "fallen empire/resurgent conqueror" empire that thanks us with nanite tech for freeing them and then goes on a reconquering rampage or something similar.
paradox, hire this man but they should function as an extremely agressive materialist FE. they were attacked by nanite AI, so they would hate all AIs bc of it.
@@IkhtiyarDaGreat I think it would be interesting to start as the Nantes or dessaneau locked in there. Locked in until another player or the ai free you.
I deal with the L-gates the same way I prepare for Shard. I build a citadel in the L-gate system, complete with every defense platform I am physically able to build. Then I place my main fleet (at least 40k fleet power, preferably 60k+), Only then do I open the gate (or in the case of the Rubricator system, excavate the archeology site). Anything hostile comes through, and it will get absolutely rocked. If I get any of the peaceful alternatives, I explore (and if possible settle the systems). If the Dessanu copies are there, I send a cloaked fleet to take care of their home system before they can stop me, then I settle.
I tend to do the same thing but I also fortify my borders in case there are L gates I don't own and then let them run throughout the galaxy To weaken the other Empires significantly. So when I hit the late game, every Empire has fallen behind due to the fact that their economies were shredded.
We of the Hydra fortify our l-gate, open it and allow the nanites to destroy out enemies, occupy the nexus and take control of all l-gates to gain a foothold thoughout the entire galaxy
What do you mean there is a Grey Tempest Paragon? Every time I open the L-Gates I just get attacked by them or the once in a blue moon the race is still alive.
There are 4 outcomes when opening the L Gayes. The two you encounter are the "proper" Midgame crisis. The hostile ones being the Gray Tempest and them being "alive" are the Dessanu. The other two outcomes you could get are neutral L Drakes (small ether drakes) that appear per L gate in the galaxy that you can tame and finally, the Legendary paragon Gray, which you find in an empty L Cluster. What event you get is random and chosen at the beginning of the game so you can't reroll a save to get a different outcome.
I have opened the L-gate. I have opened the L-gate. Gues what's inside it! Me 20 years into MP game, about to unleash gay tempest. PS: I got gray for 3rd time in a row, heading for ultima vigilis.
I think.....(this is random) but I think yall forgot they already released the BEST song for a "pirate themed" origin in ' Stellaris: Aquatics | Trailer Music '. its just a good sea shanty
That is funny I like conquering the Lgate and takeing over the cluster as it is a great spot to turrtle up with giga structers. and Ancient Cache of Technologies mods. As I can really turrtle up and take on most end game problems.
Huh I didn't know there were other outcomes, I'm a cautious and peace through strength kinda empire so I figured they'd be trouble. Made sure to build up my fleets, conquere my neighbors and such then opened the gate with 2 100k fleets in system, got my paranoia validated and crushed the fleet that came through. They also had other fleets that went elsewhere (one into a vassal) so while 2 fleets did mop up through the galaxy i had three dive into the cluster and start capturing and bombarding everything while claiming every system I could. Eventually took it and about 100 years later it became my new capital sector. Nice to know there is some variations though
I remember having this one game years ago as a Hive Mind that got screwed over early because some idiot opened the L Gates way too early to the start of the game. I decided to bail on the run but before I did I used console commands to reveal the galaxy and I was like oh oh wow. More than half of all the L Gates in that galaxy did not spawn scattered about but were clustered in one corner of the galaxy where my Hive Mind empire started. So even if I destroyed one fleet (and I definitely did not have the resources or fleet power to take on one), the others will be very nearby.
Currently at year 300 and I've avoided L gate insights the entire game but the game has been force feeding them to me and I 6/7 a couple years ago, I'm not ready :(
Update, the atomic clock opened up and dropped a nanite interdictor for me on year 310, also forcing the seventh insight, do y'all hear those trumpets too? They're not for me
My favourite empire was the Cevanti Shard, which I made to be the last remnant of the builders, and the entire purpose of the empire is to open the gate and then recolonize the L-Cluster, with habitats or otherwise.
Wait, wait wait wait; so, the Dessanu created the gateways, and were native to the L-Cluster. But, how did they get to the Galaxy to install the L-Gates and other Gates, if they couldn't leave the L-Cluster...? Cuz if they could do that, the Nanites could as well
Is there ever any reason to fight the L Drakes? I've never had a situation where they were ever hostile so the idea of fighting them never crossed my mind.
Me still playing on 3.4: what the heck is a paragon? (I'm not dealing with the trouble of rebuilding my whole mod list to update to modern versions, if the change is small enough, I might go to 3.5 for cloaking but probably not much higher)
Thanks! I can't recall it that well, the only difference I can clearly tell is Cetana, so I can't give any feedback, but I watched the video pleasantly if that counts for anything.

It really is 😂

i mean.. only a fraction of the gatebuilders were in the Lcluster.. im more curious about what happened to the rest of them
Agreed, this would be fantastic! Probably tough to balance if it was an FE, a chosen like empire would be good.

Yes, i learned in my first game, why the L-gate is an event for Late game and no when you only have a fleet of 5K

You only get one outcome, but you can find out most of the story from either the Gray or DC outcomes, 4 possibilities in total :)

thanks!! Hope you enjoyed it
Thug-of-War on the cluster gate is one real pain in the arse during the War in Heaven
The lgates are invaluable when playing a war only build like determined exterminator. Really hard to hold on to though as the game goes on.
Be silent, the Empire requires those nanites. Open the gate!

Those pesky L-Drakes, always tearing shit up

Last three playthroughs where I've opened the the L-Gate, it's been completely abandoned
