@@jxavier3876 You mean which dynasty? Almost every major dynasty. The last imperial dynasty definitely had quite a few, including the very last monarch of China himself, who first came onto the throne when he's 3. And his predecessor came to the throne at 4 if I remembered correctly.
The reason I would say that is sometimes leaders have to make emergency judgements that are extremely serious so you want to someone to have their judgement part of the brain fully developed. I also sort of feel like we should have an age limit or at least a cognitive test for old candidates.
In Brazil, when we where a monarchy, our king Dom Pedro II came to power at 14 years old in a coup after his father went back to Portugal (and became king there too). He was a nice ruler and the person who stayed the longest at power in brazilian history. Also he looked like Santa and he is one of the best playable characters in Civ V and VI.
It wasn't a coup that brought him to power. He was nominal Emperor since he was 5 (when his father left), but the misrule of the three regents caused parliament to give him full power when he was 14. He ruled well and was much beloved until overthrown (by a coup) in 1889, which he refused to oppose.
Tem duas fotos antigas dele na casa dos meus avós no Rio de Janeiro. Eu gostaria que o Brasil permanecesse como império ou reino e não como república (e a Grécia também).
The youngest prime minster we ever had in the UK was William Pitt the younger (the name actually refers to him being the younger of the two William Pitts, the elder being his father). He came to power in the late 1700s at the age of 24. He also served as the chancellor of the exchequer at the same time during his second term. His overall collective terms as prime minister total around 20 years which only ended at his death at the age of 46. He served at a crucial time in British history especially around the French Revolution and the rise of Napoleon. I wouldn’t say he is one of the great prime minsters like Churchill or the Duke of Wellington but he was one of the smartest men who held the office of First Minster. I don’t think his youth had much of a factor though in how he ran his government, rather I think it was down to his abilities as an administrator that had the biggest role to play. But he was a critical in shaping the Tory party of the time and I must say he is one of the more well known prime minister of our country (outside of the post war modern era).
The youngest prime minister ever in the UK was Pitt the Younger who became prime minister at 24 and is widely considered to be one of the best prime ministers we've had. I think it's entirely possible for young people to make good leaders, but they have to have matured enough and have been exposed to the right environment for enough time to develop the skills they need. Pitt the Younger was a great leader, but he was in a good position because his father had been prime minister so he'd grown up around politicians and diplomats and statesmen so developed the skills needed to do well in that environment early on. For most people, it takes more time than that because they won't be born with the same advantage, which is why I think young leaders of his calibre are quite rare.
I know it's kinda random, but the text overlay at 1:47 was timed really well! It was there just long enough to be comfortably read, while not staying longer than needed (a problem that I find exists with many text overlays/cutaways).
Here in the UK, our youngest monarch was 9 months old and our youngest Prime Minister was 24 years old when he first formed a government with consent by the King. He went on to win several elections and 6 terms in office. There have been several prime Ministers who have been in their 30s at inauguration. Our oldest one was 82 when elected for his 4th term, and 84 when he left office. Also, there is no age limit to become Prime Minister. You have to be at least 18 to serve as an MP, but you don't need 5o be one to become PM. You merely need to become one 'at one's earliest convenience', so a 5 year old could be chosen by the Queen to be the Prime minister, and since said hypothetical 5 year old has to be at least 18 years of age to be an MP, he is not able to become one, and thus doesn't have to.
I'm in my mid 20s and I definitely couldn't be a good world leader, but I think someone else a similar age could be if they had dedicated their life to learning the kind of things and developing the kind of skills one would need. Along with a healthy dose of humility and willingness to surround oneself with experts.
Sebastian Kurz was the Austrian Chancellor, not Prime Minister. Austria doesn't have a Prime Minister. And Kurz isn't even Chancellor yet. The coalition hasn't formed until now.
Very interresting video. I am an Austrian and at first I really found that age quite young. I got used to it, and I think 18 is a reasonable age to set a limit even though having some experience might not be bad Other very young leaders might include Irakli Gharibashwili from Georgia (33).
In general I would say that a definitive age wouldn't be an issue as long as you are qualified for the job (in this case ruling a country). The difference lies in what political systems you would get into power. In a democracy the 'young' people get elected, in which you could say they are considered to be experienced enough by the voters. In a monarchy, where the monarch is succeeded by his/her offspring this is of course not the case, but since these are predominantly ceremonial positions, this will be somewhat less important. Moreover, the crown prince or princess is often prepared for the job by the current monarch. Bottom line: a definitive age is in my opinion not important, as long as the person is qualified by experience
I agree with a past comment made by "Thomas Boerman" that so long as they are qualified then age shouldn't be a problem but I'd add to that an observation that acquiring the qualified knowledge would take until 21 (3yrs at university, standard in England and Wales but most places *that I know of* are 4yrs) with campaigning to be elected taking a year at best if party isn't currently in power and maybe shorter if there's an election almost immediately then the part voting you to replace a resigned PM. Hence, if all factors were in the individuals favour the theoretical earliest would be about 22. However, I'd think the country would be more democratic and stable if the individual had lets say 3 years minimum experience and professional relationships with either other world leaders (foreign sec), businesses (Chancellor? Finance sec/min?) or at minimum other party members. I'd also prefer the individuals had a masters degree (min of 4yrs in Uni at least in UK) so my personal minimum is about 25. That was a greatly informative and very interesting video, J.J. Thanks!
In Norway, there was a 21 year old that became mayor in a municipality back in 2019. Almost as impressive was the fact that he is the youngest mayor in Norway ever, and came from the Christian Democratic Party. As a leader of a country, I believe the youngest acceptable age is around 30, since it is quite unacceptable to have a leader without life or adult experience, or a leader who has not done a day work in their life. A leader should neither have foreign citizenship or have stayed more of their life outside the nation, as it can lead to a leader not loyal to the nation. Treason should also be a punishment dealt on the leader of a country, often with heavy prison sentence or even death if his or her actions are too severe.
Definitely! Treason need to be taken more seriously. In today's political landscape in Western/Northern Europe the politicians are betraying their peoples and nations left and right... I'm from Sweden so I very much know :(
