    What about Golda Meir? She was born in the Russian Empire but moved to Milwaukee at the age of eight, grew up in Milwaukee and Denver, and married an American man before moving to Palestine and eventually becoming Prime Minister of Israel.

    I only knew about Rama IX because, he played Alto Saxophone and he hosted a private concert to President Clinton in the 1990s. Clinton also plays saxophone. Tenor to be exact.

    You missed William walker! He was a American filibuster that managed to become the president of 3 countries (2 which he made himself), 2 being in Mexico, and the 3rd being Nicaragua. Though his filibuster reign didn’t last long as he soon declared war on Nicaragua’s neighbors which then caused a coalition against him to form and soon he was ousted.

      It's certainly was not Mexico since it was breakaway region as the self proclaimed Republic of Sonora (Modern day Sonoara, Baja California, and Baja California Sur) many other Mexican States also during this period decided to secede from the Mexican Government with the Republic of Yucatan, and Republica Del Rio Grande/Rio Bravo del Norte, and ofcourse the most famous Texas Republic and California Republic

    Rama IX, or King Bhumibol, was actually a pretty amazing guy. He visited almost every single village in Thailand, across all the impoverished parts of the country, and used a lot of his own sovereign wealth to improve their lives. I knew old people in my village who had met him, and asked for a better road. A few years later it was built. Pretty amazing for a guy who, when he was coronated, had very little experience in the country he would come to rule.

    There is also the story of Hope Cook, an American woman who in 1963 married the King of the tiny Himalayan Kingdom of Sikkim, becoming Queen Consort of Sikkim, a position she held until 1975 when India invaded and deposed her husband and annexed Sikkim into India.

      India invaded? There was a referrendum held and majority of the population voted to joind India due to fear of China invading.

    In the map at 6:02, Kansas, Nebraska, Colorado, and New Mexico are erroneously labeled as slave states. None of these states existed at the time, and the corresponding territories certainly did not allow slavery.

      I was just going to write the same thing, but I just knew someone else had beat me to it in the one year this video has been posted. JJ also showed West Virginia being a slave state on his map, when in reality, West Virginia was created from the NON-slave counties that broke away from the slave state of Virginia. Good Scots-Irish folk there. 😊
      JJ really should have done his research better. That is a heck of a lot of real estate for him to show as slave states that were in fact FREE states and territories (that went on to fight on the winning side and CRUSH the south.)

      the new mexico territory (which controlled Arizona new mexico and Las Vegas area) did allow slavery although many fought against it. and the Kansas-Nebraska territory did allow slavery for a short time, until abolitionist took over and abolished it.

      @@awesomezilla West Virginia did technically allow slavery, but only because they gained statehood by claiming to be the legitimate government of Virginia and using said power to seperate themselves from Virginia. This carried over all of Virginia's laws and they never got around to banning it on the state level before it was banned federally anyways. However, since one of the reasons they became a seperate state was to fight for the union, that demonstrates that they did become a state to oppose slavery even if the time between gaining statehood and passing the 13th amendment wass too short to pass a state ban on slavery

      @@iancypes5911 I think acting as though they "didn't get around" to passing a bill outlawimg slavery is a bit disingenuous. Like most of the southern economy, West Virginia relied on the labor of slaves, maybe not to the degree as Virginia the main part, but slavery was very much still practiced. Plus the war was not turned into ending the institution of slavery for the Union until after the emancipation proclamation, it was not what West Virginia fought for.

    Fun fact: Boris Johnson was born in New York City and up until a few years ago, was an american citizen
    PS If things don't work out in the UK, he could technically move to the US for a few years and then run for president (its easier too because you don't even have to be in congress to do so, although I think most people found that out in 2016)
    Edit: nevermind apparently if you renounce your citizenship its extremely difficult to get it back

      That’s cause the US doesn’t have a parliamentary system. The head of government isn’t the prime minister. In a parliamentary system of government, the head of government is the minister of parliamentary of the majority and is elected by the ministers and not the people.

      Most people see it as such a black and white thing that it's never been questioned.
      Apart from running for president, there isnt any other legal difference between natural born and naturalized citizens, so if such a case came up, it could be questioned can a naturalized citizen be president if he was naturally born?
      There's nothing that says he can't but there's also nothing that says he can

      @@owenfitzgerald5928 Some think that it was just an invention by de Valera's mother to hide that her son may have been illegitimate. As far as I know, no document pertaining to a Juan Vivion de Valera (or de Valero) other than Dev's birth certificate has ever been found. All that is known about him is de Valera family lore.

      I think that fact might actually be known better here in America! I've met many Irish who don't know it, which surprises me given the huge connection to America of the Irish population and eventually its political struggles, and to the fact that de Valera owed his life after the Easter Rising to his American heritage.
      That he was Cuban didn't seem to be known very well by a lot of people, also surprisingly!

    I'm so happy you have mentioned Guyana in a video ☺ 🇬🇾 Guyana has about 5 different main different groups of people from different cultural background who all work together, with the country slogan being "One People, one nation, one destiny" so I don't think much surprise a white woman could lead the country. ♥

    King Rama 9 was very international. He also had some Chinese ancestry, spent most of his youth in Europe and of course was born in the US, but he spent less than a year there. Not sure if he had US citizenship or not, but I don't think he ate hamburgers and recite the Pledge of Allegiance every morning as a kid. His love for jazz was very American though.

      The original ethnic Thai people (including the king's ancestors) came from China. The Thai migrated from China to southeast Asia and took control of the area creating Thailand.

      When he was being birthed, the room he was in was momentarily declared part of Thailand. So he is not an American by birth in that sense.

    Cool video! There’s also Sam Houston, Mirabeau Lamar, and Anson Jones, who were all presidents of the Republic of Texas. (You could also count David Burnet, who was interim president during the war.)
    There’s also Jefferson Davis, though thats sort of a technicality.
    The one I wished you mentioned the most though was William Walker, what a madman.

    In the late 1960’s Andreas Papandreou was a professor at York University in Toronto where my mother was the Director of Graduate Admissions. I had the opportunity, as a teenager, to meet Dr. Papandreou who was very polite and engaged in a conversation without being condescending in any way to a naive high school student. Very interesting that he and his family were highlighted in this video.

    Actually King Bhumibol Adulyadej (King Bhumibol the Great) aka Rama IX, wasn’t a US citizen by birth cause he was the son of a diplomat. As per law, diplomats and their families residing in the US don’t have citizenship at birth in the USA.

    We're a generation removed from The Troubles now, so it is less and less obvious, but if you're intimately involved in certain Irish American cultural groups you'll come across paramilitary iconography, small memorial items to martyrs, and people proud of their backing of the fight. So yeah it's still a thing.

      One weird trend I've noticed online is teenagers (especially American teenagers) being really into the IRA and provo iconography. It's a little unsettling how much these particular young people will fetishise a terror campaign, when it's actual Irish people who have gone through the generational trauma of that period. Even in Cork, most families have a story about someone from that time.

      OAC hallucinating It may be a Canadian thing. To us Guy is pronounced the way he is saying it because of the French influence. Costa Rica is another one that there are two ways it's said.

    JJ, I noticed a rather glaring error in the Civil War portion. Nebraska and Kansas were Free States, and Kansas was even torn apart in a sort of proto-Civil War called Bleeding Kansas where a vote was held to decide if it would be a free or slave state and settlers arrived from competing sides and then shot at each other quite a bit.

    Not exactly a ruler of another country, but Thomas Paine (yes, the Common Sense guy) was elected to the National Convention during the French Revolution, despite not speaking French. His popularity there was due to his book "Rights of Man" which rebutted Edmund Burke's pamphlet criticizing the Revolution.

    The flagg showed as a graphic in the video is from MIRANDELA (the only place in portugal in wich portuguese is not spoken) but the flagg you holding is of a antiga mui nobre, sempre leal e invicta cidade de PORTO (where the best football club is located ;)) They are two diffrent flaggs from two diffrent citys. Im happy you own now a portuguese flagg, because i saw youre flagg collection and noticed that that you havent even a portuguese nationalflagg wich is a beauty in mi opinion. Keep the good work thou

      Ya, have noticed that too! I aas wondering if someone saw that. They are a bit similar if you are distracted, but readind the names in the flags gives it away. I'm Portuguese too, and is nice to see that he has a portuguese flag now, but, ya... having it confused with other flag is a bit distracting 😅

    I generally like your content, but I don’t know where you came up with the map at 6:03. Kansas, Nebraska and Colorado were never slave states. Actually, Nebraska and Colorado, along with Oklahoma and New Mexico were t even states yet when the Civil War occurred.

      Señor MeinKrafter2020 They can’t be called Slave States if they were not States at the time. Slave territories? No just like we don’t say Witch hunting was legal in state of Massachusetts. It was legal in the colony or territory that preceded the state itself. Both entities have the same land but are just that 2 separate entities.

      @@SenorMeinKrafter Well, it's actually a lot more complicated than that. The Kansas-Nebraska Act that created Kansas and Nebraska allowed them to choose whether to allow slavery or not. This led to a lot of bloodshed between both sides, but both territories were legally free. Although, there were still plenty of slaveholders since they were both frontier regions without much law enforcement.

      I think that the “slave state” status was because they had a bunch of slave owners or wannabes who organized their own capital city and legislature who voted to secede and join the CSA before being chased out by a Union company, much like happened in Delaware, Maryland, or West Virginia. Visit Stone Mountain sometime, and prepare to have your mind blown from the CSA propaganda.

    You'd have no reason to know this unless someone told you, but Prince Mahidol is actually pronounced kind of like "Ma-hee-don" with the L making an N sound. It's because the Thais prefer when their language is romanized that the romanized spelling "matches" the way it's written in Thai, as opposed to matching how it actually sounds. And the Thai script is pretty crazy, with letters making completely different sounds depending on where they are in the syllable.

    Interesting fact about King Bhumibol Adulyadej: Even though he was born on US soil, he was never an American citizen due to an unusual exception in the 14th Amendment of the Constitution which establishes birthright citizenship. The relevant part of Section 1 of the Amendment reads: "All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside." Even though King Bhumibol was born in the US, as a member of a foreign ruling family he was not considered directly subject to the jurisdiction of American laws and therefore did not automatically receive US citizenship. In any case, he only lived in the US for the first year of his life until his father finished studying at Harvard and didn't return to the country of his birth until he went on a state visit in 1960.

    I think this would also be case with some Indians. They moved to different countries by will or by someone else's force. And now some of their children and grandchildren are leaders in that country.

      About electing a minority a leader in my country, I would say current situation doesn't seem like it. But just before sometime India had a combination for some years that was like as following :
      The Head of state = President = Abdul Kalam ( Muslim - Minority)
      The Head of government = Prime Minister = Dr. Manmohan Singh ( Sikh - Minority )
      Chair person of party with Majority = Party president = Sonia Gandhi ( A Christian by birth, wife of a former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi, and she is also from Italy)
      And these three were ruling a country with Hindu Majority. And the president changed later but Dr. Manmohan Singh stayed in officer for 2 consecutive terms.

    Should have mentioned Hussein Mohamed Farrah Aidid, a Somalian US Marine who was deployed to Somalia as a non-combatant interpreter. Then later returned to Somalia to lead a his Uncle's Militia and Political party. Ended up becoming president.
