    When my eldest was 4, we were walking into a BBQ restaurant as two officers were walking out. She looked up at them wide-eyed, and said quite loudly in an incredulous voice "Mommy, I thought they only ate donuts!" They laughed the whole way back to their car.

      i wish my experience with the police had been good ones, the first real encounter i had was in cincinnati, i was 15 and had just been robbed, somehow that managed to go south so badly, but it always did, i dunno if it's because of my autism or lack of social skills, my size (i'm a big person) or what, but the police can never turn their damn brain off and stop trying to "figure out" what i'm hiding, because i'm never hiding anything, but i have autism so i don't communicate well verbally, i don't make eye contact i get very anxious and stressed out because i have sensory overload issues, so lights and the sirens stress me out, i do my best to contain it but eventually i will get irritated and then i'm in shut down mode, i'll just try and leave , to remove myself from the things causing the stress, thats when they get physical and then i have a full on meltdown mace and tasers are not effective i just pull the barbs out.
      i type great though, i wish i could text the police to be honest, when interacting with them, it's almost always a disaster i'm pretty sure my past interactions with the police have caused ptsd, i had my arm broken in highschool during a meltdown that was really bad but i understand at that point what else can they do with a 6'3" 200lb 13 year old with autism, but to this day just seeing a police car causes anxiety, even though i have nothing against police officers. ..it's kind of like how you feel i guess, "can i trust this person enough to tell them i'm a cop" ..for a lot of us it's "can i trust this person to be decent and respectful and human, because he's a cop"

    • @jadejewell7716

      It's called loyalty. Police officers have a discipline, loyalty, and brotherhood developed by such a dangerous and stressful job. They risk their lives to protect people who, for the majority, don't appreciate it.

    Hardest transition for me was, when my wife and I went to a house party and everyone was talking about work, there wasn't really a lot I could say that they could relate to. They were all pretty good people and never had any dealings with Police Officers, and didn't want to hear about bar fights, domestics, DWIs, etc. Within a couple of years I found that the only people I hung with were other Police Officers and City Firefighters.

      "until the good ones weed out the bad ones". There is never ever ever going to be a time where all 900,000 cops in the US are good or do not make a mistake. Just like how we will never ever not have doctors that malpractice or teachers that dont have sex with their students. Get real dude, this whole typical anti-police phrase of "until the good ones weed out the bad ones blah blah" is cheesy, overused, over-exaggerated and cliche. Officers are disciplined and fired every year.

    Hey, my name is Campbell and I just found your channel at 1:24 AM in the morning. I'm a naturally compassionate person, so I'd like to say thank you for all of your service and everything you do for our country. Every time i've dealt with a police officer it has been a great time other than the one power drunk cop who pulled me over for going a few miles too fast over the speed limit on my BICYCLE. hehe, but anyway, thank you. I suffer from adrenal insufficiency and hypothyroidism, so my thyroids and adrenal glands don't produce proper hormones or regulate my body properly. I've been to the hospital over 20 times, about 15 times by ambulance, and I'd like to thank you police officers for the many escorts through traffic lights for the ambulance, and checkups at my house to make sure my health is good while on routine strolls through my neighborhood. I truly realized how amazing you guys are when I was recently arrested, for getting in a car accident in a parking lot while under the influence. The parked car I rolled into either was stolen, had no insurance, or was dirty in some way (what's your opinion?) so the driver ran through the parking lot and got in the car and ran off after I hit his vehicle while I was parking to make sure everything was okay, so I guess it was a "hit and RAN." I am a kind person, so when I arrived at home (100 feet away, I emphasize this because I said I was under the influence), I called the police on myself to report the accident and my driving while intoxicated. Because I could've been to myself and not called the police, the police officers who arrived on scene were very kind to me and thankful for me acting the way I did, and arrested me very nicely (as much of an oxymoron as that may sound) as well as letting me play Pink Floyd in his patrol car on the way to the station, because I was nice to him and all of his coworkers (fellow police officers, what's the right term?) and I described my music tastes, albeit quite more relaxed than his tastes, metal and screamo music, which I was surprised to hear from a police officer. At the age of 17, I have a deep respect that's been set in concrete in my head for the police force. While it may not be considered the police, I also have a huge amount of respect for the fire department and paramedics who protect and serve our country. Thank you for everything you and all of your buddies do for our country, whether it be arresting those who need to be arrested, not pulling me over for having too much camber in my MK7 golf or not ruining all the car meets I go to, or assisting the paramedics in their ventures to save my life, or saving my girlfriend's life when she was both sexually assaulted and attempted suicide. I love you police officers with all my heart, whether you're a rookie, a veteran, a state trooper, a secretary at the precinct, etc. Once more, Thank you.
    I hope you see this,
    Campbell.

    I was never a cop, but was in the Navy and I can relate to stepping into a normal conversation while off duty and when the question of "what do you do for a living" comes up. Not for the exact reason because I never felt they might not like me or want to hurt me, but because the most common questions when you tell somebody you are in the military are "did you kill anyone", "did you ever jump out of a plane?" No and No, I was a Hull maintenance technician on a Frigate and mainly maintained a damage control locker because My ship only had 2 Damage control guys, 3 damage control lockers and 4 HTs and since there was more of my rate than needed and we were short DC guys I got picked to help the DCs. I refilled SCBA tanks and made sure they were good to go in case of a fire.

    **QUESTION** if you’re driving your patrol car for personal use, are you required to be in uniform? You said if you’re in your patrol car for personal use and something happens like an accident, you’re required to act. So would you have to be in uniform? Thanks

    • @chrisjones6002
      @chrisjones6002 6 років тому +8

      No would wouldn't, at least you aren't where I live. It would depend on department policy and in some cases your local laws. For example, where I live an officer has to either be in a marked squad car or in full uniform to make a traffic stop. So in theory you could be off duty in street clothes and stop someone for a traffic infraction legally. Some departments will require that you be armed whenever you are in your squad.

      Aaron T not at my local department, they allow take home cars (with a mileage restriction on how far from the PD your house is) and you can use your car for personal use as long as you’re in the city or have business in the city that trip, I believe they also require a sidearm and badge but IMO you would be stupid to be driving a marked unit without sidearm and badge on you.

    About the taking your car home and using it as a personal car... a buddy of mine is a Connecticut State Trooper, and since their patrol vehicles have no livery, they are just grey, you are allowed to take your car home, detach the lightbar, lamp, etc, and use it as a personal vehicle. It's kinda cool and interesting

    The thing is that video camera evidence from a third party cell phone is problematic because it can't be authenticated. Most phones record in the .mp4 format which is digitally compressed. From the forensic standpoint you need a non-compressed format for a reputable digital forensics expert to be able to testify that the video hasn't been tampered with to a high degree of certainty. (i.e. an avi or a mov file). This is because of the fact that the tools we use to verify the integrity of video footage don't work with compressed formats that require a codec.

    *I'm not sure how to word this into a question so I guess I'll just explain myself. (Also, the user name is just a joke! But probably true lol) Something I often think about is when there are marches or protests against police brutality or if a police officer shoots and kills an unarmed man or woman (for example) and the family/friends/public are protesting against the police departments across America or that particular department .. How does it make you feel? Do you ever feel like it's the police (nationwide) against the public? Do you ever wish you could just tell some of these people that you understand and actually agree with them? I hope this statement/question makes sense..
    And one more if you're ever able to.. I'm a 29 year old female who's been addicted to heroin/opiates for roughly 10 years. I spend a lot of time in the inner cities. I obviously get to know and talk to not just my dealers but ppl in the neighborhood(s) and something I hear constantly is "oh shit.. Here come the police.." and this person might have nothing on them.. They aren't doing anything wrong.. No warrants.. But in their minds and I know bc I've asked.. They always think it's better to avoid and ignore the police regardless of the situation at that moment. They are convinced the police don't give a fuck about anything but fucking them over if they have the chance or honestly and truly catching them if they really are doing something wrong and for those reasons they won't even say hello to a police officer. Do you think if police officers that patrol the inner cities were to slowly try and interact with some of these ppl maybe over a quick game of basketball (we've all seen those videos) or even just getting out and speaking to these ppl especially the young men.. Do you think it would make things better for everyone? Like, do you think it's possible and important for the police to try and build some type of relationship when they're able to with the ppl in their community?
    I probably sound insane but I really think about both of these things often and I hope you understand what I'm saying/asking*

    Hey man, I'm 19 and graduated a year ago, i keep thinking i wanna be a cop (detective later one hopefully) but i have a few things i feel hold me back. For one i haven't had a serious job with much responsibility, and i heard the hiring process is hard, and that leads me to believe i wouldn't get hired. On top of that, i don't really know the streets around my area too well, and sometimes get a little anxious driving in the highway (inexperience i believe), other than that, I'm in really great shape, I'm a combat sports athlete, do you think i should pursue it? Any specific advice?

      King Kong Hi, I'm not a cop yet, but I do know that your best shot is to either join the military or go to college for criminal justice. Better yet, do both; it'll make you high up on the list of applicants.

    • @BhappyD
      @BhappyD 6 років тому +7

      King Kong If you really truly want something enough, you can find a way to make it happen. Perhaps you should ask some of the police officers from your local police department, as they are going to provide you the most accurate information for where you live. In the world we live in today, a college education is going to help you in most job applications. There are many different degrees that can be of great use to a law enforcement officer, and so it would be a good idea for you to really look into your options and figure out what the best fit is for you. Not to mention, if you don't end up being hired in law enforcement, that college degree will aid you in alternative career choices. As the other reply mentioned, the military is also a good option for giving you a better chance of landing the job as a LEO, but you need to go into the military for the right reasons, not just because it would look better on a job application. The military isn't for everyone, and that's ok. Plenty of police officers have no military background. Driving anxiety is definitely something that gets better with time, so I really wouldn't let that be the thing that holds you back. As for the job history aspect, start working now. Even if it's a part time minimum wage job, it's going to help you not only in the application process (that goes for any job you're applying for) but it will also help you transition into a working environment. Additionally, get involved in service and charity work. Volunteer with organizations that serve the public, especially organizations that reach out to the same demographic and population that police do. Even more helpful, would be to try to work your way into more of a leadership position in the organization your volunteering for. Dedicated service work looks good on any job application, but that is especially so when you're applying for a job that deals specifically with public service and outreach.
      Whatever path you decide to take, I wish you the very best! Anything is possible with hard work and dedication. God bless! 😊

    I’m curious how y’all are getting around the 4th amendment when you seize the property of someone not remotely suspected of committing a crime. It seems like a really quick way to turn a cooperative witness into an uncooperative individual. When someone is filming they often see more than what is in frame, including what happened before the recording began. Wouldn’t it be better to get the recording emailed to a work email along with a detailed witness statement, then to get only the actual recording along with a “I didn’t see anything” statement?

    • @BhaktaChase

    • @lukewarmwater6412
      @lukewarmwater6412 5 років тому

      I would bet that 9 out of 10 times that is exactly what happens. cooperative witnesses make for a better case in court. although in some cases if you were to say, make some sort of comments while filming the phone might get taken 'just because' since I am sure there is a process that takes a month and is really inconvenient and it would be a perfect passive agressive way to get back at a jerk......

    The thing about mannequins is relatable to me. I am a security guard in New Zealand and I respond alarm activations as part of my job. In NZ security guards are not permitted to carry any kind of weapons. In the last couple of weeks I have responded 3 alarms that had unexpected mannequins onsite. Each time I nearly shit myself.
    At the last actual burglary I responded (2 weeks ago) a police dog handler also attended. He had a tazer, a German shepherd , a baton and a Glock 17. Most New Zealand cops don't carry guns on their person, but I was told dog handlers do because they are first responders. I got there three minutes before him.
