LAPD hired me, I'll be starting the academy soon. Y'all pray for me lol Officer 401 definitely has been dropping gems on me during this process too. Big ups to you!
My dad worked for the LaGrange Police Department for 30 years and in Law Enforcement for a total of 37. He retired as a lieutenant and worked in every position except chief. Been in a shoot out and everything else you could go through. He was a motorcycle cop for years and sadly witnessed his best friend Sami Bulloch get killed when someone struck his bike while responding code 3. But my dad loved being a sergeant but when he was promoted to a Lieutenant he hated not being able to be on the streets with his boys because his chief wanted him doing paperwork so he took a demotion to a sergeant. After falling thru the roof at home one evening before work he decided to go back to being a Lieutenant because of falling thru our kitchen roof lol. But sadly my dad passed away 2 weeks ago from a 2 year long battle with terminal cancer. He worked as a LEO my entire life and LOVED being with his officers and caught hell for arguing with his chief because of things the chief didn’t understand about Officer Safety. But I’m 27 and he retired the first time in 2009 and drove a semi for a year before going right back and stayed for 3 more years before retiring again and drove a truck before going to a smaller department Hogansville Georgia PD being hired on as a Captain. Left after issues and drove again before becoming a Troup County Georgia Sheriffs Deputy. Didn’t make anything at all pay was horrible before training at 63 years old to be a Georgia DOT H.E.R.O Unit Operator in Atlanta on I-285. Then cancer struck. At his service his old night shift officers still called him their one and only Lt. And that my dad was the only superior officer they’ve ever worked for that truly cared about them and that actually had their back and considered them family and only cared about keeping them safe. My dad was a true Cops Cop thru and thru and loved being a father, husband and a police officer. He started his career as a Harris County Georgia Sheriffs Deputy in the late 70’s and worked for other departments before moving from Columbus Georgia to LaGrange Troup County Georgia to work for the LPD. I’ve had to goto two police officer funerals one for Fallen LPD K9 Officer Justin Lane Caine who was killed in the line of duty in 2001 a young K9 Officer on my dads shift and sadly 4 years later someone killed his K9 Partner on a car chase that turned into a foot chase that ended with a man killing the dog. But my dad never worked as a K9 Officer but did do Vice Squad back in the late 80’s. Never wanted to be a detective or anything just wanted to be on the streets with his guys. He was a FTO Sergeant for years and the driving instructor at Georgia Law Enforcement Training Facility Forsyth. I could go on and on and on and on lol. But my dad was born to be a Police Officer and he almost died doing it after a shootout in 1993 when I was only a few months old. But a Georgia State Trooper was his only backup and if it weren’t for that Trooper being with him that night my dad would have been killed. But he sadly passed while in Hospice here in LaGrange Georgia two weeks ago and was given a Police Funeral Service and will be missed so much. Sorry for writing a damn book! Lol..
Johnny Test I don’t know you but that brought me to tears. Thank You! I’ve heard it a million times but all I saw in 27 years was my dad. I never knew how much he really meant to so many people both Officers and normal citizens. Again thank you. I know he would say “tell him stop sugar coating it I’m just doing my job” lol.

Daniel Takawi That comment you just wrote brought a tear to my eye man. Thank You! These last few months since I had to say my final goodbyes to him have been the most challenging and emotional times I’ve ever had to experience and to go through. But I know that he is up there keeping a watchful eye over me as my guardian angel. But on a much more lighter note and somewhat comical enough to me is when he told me months before his heath began to go downhill that if this cancer does decide to take me and if I do make it to heaven and if I’m looking down on you and I see you being a idiot behind the wheel of my z28 Camaro and you so much as hit a curb and cause any bit of curb rash on those expensive wheels I worked my ass off on buying so help me god son I will haunt you until you get to heavens pearly gates to where I can finally once again put my foot so far up your ass you won’t walk right for a month. Even battling terminal cancer he still showed us how much he loved his vehicles more than anybody else except for his German Shepherd CoCo who he loved more than any humans 😂😂. Again thank you for those truly incredible meaningful response sir. So grateful to know that there’s still people out there who have a heart of gold!

i want to go SWAT for my career and i’m gonna find a pd with a full time swat department but i just don’t want to get a call at 3am with me needing to be somewhere and just not wake up to the call
As someone with zero police experience I’d think that swat would be safer than regular patrol since youre always aware of the dangers of what you’re about to do and always with a full team of equally training and equiped officers whereas in patrol you are a lot more likely to be alone with less armour and armaments and never have any idea of what to expect at any given situation
But you are still automatically responding to the most dangerous calls, while some officers rarely or never have to pull their gun out. In reality, most SWAT work it in addition to being regular cops, so you are actually adding it to your danger total, not working it instead.
Sir I so appreciate your videos, I'm starting week 16 at the Baltimore county police academy tomorrow and figuring out what precinct I want to go to after graduation and where I would like to go after my probation is done is on my mind every day!! This helps coming from a experienced officers mouth.
It’s interesting to hear different depts schedules and plus/minuses if each division. In my department (around 670 sworn officers in a city of 300,000) You can’t beat the schedule of Patrol. We work 4 ten hour shifts and get three days off in a row. It’s not based on seniority it’s based on your squad (A-D) and the days off rotate every three months. Right now I have Saturday-Monday off until April-June then I’ll have Monday-Wednesday off. Then in July-September I have Friday-Sunday off. Most everything is relatively the same that you said except our traffic division. They do monday-Thursday and have to rotate the overtime for events like concerts, sporting events etc
0:58 - new police start patrol. 4:34 - traffic - legally they can't put a numerical quota on u. 5:22 - SWAT 6:50 - aggressive patrol - high crime, high drug areas. 7:53 - K9 (8:43 - most peopl r very afraid of police dogs). 9:06 - CID - criminal investigations (10:19 - could get called out 30 to 60 min after u fell asleep). 12:16 - administration

Been a fan of this page for years. (Was a really motivated MP in the Guard lol) And always come back to this video for motivation or whenever I move, which went as: Patrol > SWAT > Crime Interdiction Unit.
I remember a person I knew...he was a lawyer, police officer, reservist, college instructor, and sometimes worked traffic...my only thought on hearing this information is...when did he ever SLEEP?
Congrats on 12 Years in Law Enforcement. You obviously love what you do and just by watching a lot of your videos we can tell your a very good Police Officer and leader in the community you live in. Continue the good work man!
Officer 401, thank you for your continued service brother. For all of my blue line brothers and sisters out there on the front lines, be safe, be healthy, and God bless you all.
My friend who's a state trooper says the best part about working holidays is you get to skip seeing the relatives you hate. So, kind of an perk, I guess.
Congrats on your 12 years of service & keeping everyone safe. My father spent 20yrs as a MP/CID (back when there were no computers in the department) & 20yrs DEA Forensic Scientist
Always appreciate your forthrightness. I do understand that there are conduct parameters you are constrained by, having been in the military, but you walk the 'info insider' line very well. Thanks. People need to hear from those on the job, since the MSM has not been fair.
I thank you soooo much for starting this channel and making these videos. I see myself being a police officer in my future and your videos have helped me learn so much! Thank you.
Just wanted to drop in and say I appreciate all of the videos you do and are a part of, please keep up the great work bud. If I ever see you out in town I’ll try and get you a beer
Officer 401 do a video on coroner work! As someone who picks up human remains for a living I would love your take on it! Much respect for everything that you do.
Let me ask this and I mean no disrespect or anything like that. I'm just curious to hear the answer. Let's say I stop you for Speeding at 13 over the limit and you ask me for a warning instead of a citation. My response is, I just stopped another car about 10 minutes ago for the same violation with the same excuse of "I wasn't paying attention, I didn't mean to speed....I just left Church and my mind was elsewhere" but I issued a Citation. Let's say I'll give you a warning, but you have to speak with the other driver face to face and explain why you deserve a warning and they didn't for doing the exact same thing. What would you say to him or her?
I'm proud that you are one of the few that came up through the ranks to get to where you are now. I know many times it's just who you know or politics that get the positions and those people try to BS their way and blow smoke up everyone's ass. But i'm proud you like it. One question. If you are offered a higher position, What are the next 2 steps up?
First thing first, thank you for making this video and providing us with all this useful info! Second thing; I am so excited to become a CHP officer after listening to your video! Stay safe and looking forward to more content like this.
Congrats. This month made 13 years I've been on the Police Force and I'm currently in our Traffic Division and I love it. But I do get call out when a fatal accident occurs because I am a Crash Investigator/Reconstructionist. That part does get annoying.
Awesome video. Very informative. I forwarded it to my nephew who is studying to be a police officer. I told him to subscribe to you, Donut Operator, and Mike the Cop. God Bless and stay safe.
Many of the K9 officers here have 2 dogs... One land shark (GSD) and a drug/explosives detection dog (often a springer spaniel) So they get loads of callouts to drugs warrants to search properties or vehicles for concealments
I am a medic in the ARMY, currently work in an ER doing graveyard shifts 12-16 hours sometimes, I am hoping to become a TN state trooper next year when I go into the reserves. I am looking forward to getting overtime pay, cause I work 60 hours a week regularly. Keep up the vids! Looking forward to writing up tickets!
Police work is pretty much the same wherever you go. All of your points were very familiar to me even though I've been retired ten years after doing 30. Grass is always greener elsewhere and I found you exchange one set of problems for a different set as you transfer. Never got to SWAT, always got beat by seniority. Loved traffic but had a high standard for cites, no chickensheise tickets. My favorite spot was fraud section, that was great! Brass left your squad alone because they didn't understand fraud. But fraud was easy once you understand the laws and money systems. So it was like being on vacation for after years of patrol and traffic. :)
Swat is dumb in most cities the sit in the rear with all the gear. Set the perimeter and wait an ungodly amount of hours for the person to shoot them self in the head then go clear the empty house. Not all, but most swat teams.
They don’t know what the outcome will be. They are there to attempt to negotiate that outcome. It’s kinda a 50/50 chance of what they’ll do. Give up or take the other route (which can be suicide, running, etc.) but SWAT also does raids and sometimes can help serve warrants if necessary.
In my area, you're patrol and traffic all in one. If you're not active on a call, you can be doing traffic enforcement. My county doesn't have a SWAT team, but they've been trying to work out a Task Force team in case of a mass shooter. Where one law enforcement team would go in after the shooter. Then only appointed EMS would be allowed to go in with a different law enforcement group and render aid to injured people and get them out
I’m currently a senior in high school, going to college to get my associates degree, looking into law enforcement, mostly interested in chp in California. This helped
In Québec (Canada) cops have ticket quotas so they're a lot stricter...my parents once got pulled over for not stopping at a stop sign even though they were fully stopped (they even felt the car jerk back). The officer litterally said to them "Don't try to get out of it, you're the 6th one I pull over at the same spot today." They had to pay the ticket.
Not an LEO, and you provide a lot of perspective on what it's like. Personally, I hate jobs that involve a lot of politics. That would have been more of a bummer for me than a higher danger level or a bad schedule.
Hey officer 401 can you make a video how your department is preparing for the crisis and what your depart protocol is for when the nation goes into state of emergency
It must be a really good feeling to know that when you are your team are in a neighborhood all the trouble makers stay in doors. What happens with the K-9 dogs when their human partner leaves that department? Or the dog retires. Do many officers keep the dogs, is there a doggy retirement home? Do dogs transfer well to other human partners? CID fascinated me as a teen an younger man. Still does now. The idea that you have to figure out a crime, and the truth of events. It's part of why Columbo is my favorite TV cop. However the reality of a detective being inundated with cases, and the horror that can come with them seems crushing. I just don't have a mind that can handle multiple things like that.
Funny I was watching some of the first videos he did & he was saying how he never wanted to end up in administration lol. Glad it’s working out though. a few years, different experiences & opportunities can certainly change your perspective on things. Reminder: Never say never
I loved being K9. I NEVER had to run after a perp. As soon as I yelled, "Halt or I'll release my dog!" they froze and gave up. So fun.

“You know, I always wanted to be a cop.”
*This isn’t the best time bro.*
“Oh right, EVERYONE HIT THE FUCKING FLOOR THIS IS A ROBBERY”
i want to go SWAT for my career and i’m gonna find a pd with a full time swat department but i just don’t want to get a call at 3am with me needing to be somewhere and just not wake up to the call
Not safer, you’re better trained and with ultra elite teammates. You also have more equipment.
Thank you for doing what you do !! You inspired me to finally go for law enforcement!!!
5:22 - SWAT
6:50 - aggressive patrol - high crime, high drug areas.
7:53 - K9 (8:43 - most peopl r very afraid of police dogs).
9:06 - CID - criminal investigations (10:19 - could get called out 30 to 60 min after u fell asleep).
12:16 - administration
My favorite assignment was being attached to the Commonwealth Attorney's Office as an investigator. Great gig.
Law abiding citizen: Watching for entertainment
Me on the traffic bit: Taking notes
Ya know at this point I’ve grown so accustomed to seeing your face, I’ve almost forgotten that for a long time it was just car vlogs. I remember how big of an event it was when you did your face-reveal, man your channel has really taken off since I subscribed!
Unless I just missed it, what’s you danger rating for aggressive patrol? Thanks for all you do man!
I might have missed that! My bad! I'd put it at about an 8 or 9. We were always in foot chases.
@@officer401 Might want to pin this comment just so that everyone else gets this info who might ask the same question.
officer401 that sounds sketchy as fuck how do you know when youre chasing someone that they’re not gonna cut around a corner and pull out a Baretta waiting for you to come running around the bend
@@pathfinder9071 Pretty sure he mentioned that in another video of something like that happening to one of his partners and the guys gun didn't shoot.
8:50 yeah, thats because if an officer uses excessive force he is liable, you can't really sue a K9 if he butcher your arm.
Roscoe also there is no running for a German shepherd.
@@unkn0vvnmystery yeah that would be cool being a k9 patrol
@@unkn0vvnmystery or Belgian malinois
Thanks for your service my Brother in Arms and I hope you and your family are safe and well.
This was a great video, it gave me a whole new perspective on what kind of law enforcement officer there are out there.
My friend who's a state trooper says the best part about working holidays is you get to skip seeing the relatives you hate.
So, kind of an perk, I guess.
That is one smart Trooper! I purposely work any holiday I can just for that reason.
Congrats on your 12 years of service & keeping everyone safe. My father spent 20yrs as a MP/CID (back when there were no computers in the department) & 20yrs DEA Forensic Scientist
Finally met my backgrounds investigator!
Officer 401 you definitely motivate me!!!
Still not the biggest fan of Cops overall but your channel is really incredible. Extremely well deserved support and following.
I’m planning on joining police scotland soon, very different from US police but I still love watching your videos
20th
Best Police channel to me. Thanks for your continuous videos!!
I’m stuck between wanting to go with either GSP or Gwinnett PD. I’ve watched several of your vids. They’ve been helpful. Keep up the great work!
Love you bro be safe
I love sims training. Its the best force on force training a agency can put on
Always appreciate your forthrightness.
Thank you.
I’m loving how this sound I’m currently going into the police academy rn so this is really helpful
Officer401, you and your videos are absolutely amazing! Thank you so much!!!
Have a great day everyone. 👍😀
This was one of the most informative vids i have ever watched.
No sarcasm at all.
This was really great!
“Fugitive Apprehension Response Team” imagine being a unit, quite unstoppable
Just wanted to drop in and say I appreciate all of the videos you do and are a part of, please keep up the great work bud. If I ever see you out in town I’ll try and get you a beer
Always love the videos, man. Keep em coming.
Officer 401. I just pass my P.O.S.T exam. I really want to say thank you for your videos & advice on being a police officer.
Officer 401 do a video on coroner work! As someone who picks up human remains for a living I would love your take on it! Much respect for everything that you do.
I love your videos!! I literally stayed here at my barracks (U.S.Army) (Fort Benning Georgia) thank you for all the valuable knowledge
600k awesome! Good job congratulations!
Congrats on your 12 years man. Stay safe out there and keep up the good content!
Cop killers don't get to pretend that Blue Lives Matter. Rest in Peace, Officer Brian Sicknick.
That's cool he got detective and gave the most breaks on traffic stops.
Yes that shows he has a heart and actually cares unlike most traffic cops
I already work 14 to 15 hour shifts 🤙 glad my sleeping and energy levels are ready for this kinda of work schedule
Administration seems like I would love it. Keeping up reputation and public speaking and articulation is my jam!
Awesome Video love to see all the depts get broken down and be understandable !!!!
Congrats. This month made 13 years I've been on the Police Force and I'm currently in our Traffic Division and I love it. But I do get call out when a fatal accident occurs because I am a Crash Investigator/Reconstructionist. That part does get annoying.
Thank you for your service sir! 🤝🙏
Thanks for the video, I enjoyed your dry humor. May you have a long and effective career!
Can you do a video on Gang/gang Intel units in police departments? Thanks for the great content!
Damn he been through it all a lot of experience there.
Funny thing is my department gets every holiday off but no retirement!
Awesome video. Very informative. I forwarded it to my nephew who is studying to be a police officer. I told him to subscribe to you, Donut Operator, and Mike the Cop. God Bless and stay safe.
Many of the K9 officers here have 2 dogs... One land shark (GSD) and a drug/explosives detection dog (often a springer spaniel)
So they get loads of callouts to drugs warrants to search properties or vehicles for concealments
Then only appointed EMS would be allowed to go in with a different law enforcement group and render aid to injured people and get them out
Nice!!! I was wondering about CID, My mom did patrol, NARCOTICOsSS and she swithed to administratuon once i was born... This is a very helpful video!
Thank you for sharing your experiences and god bless you and keep you safe. Thank you for wearing the uniform and the badge.
I’m currently a senior in high school, going to college to get my associates degree, looking into law enforcement, mostly interested in chp in California. This helped
got my final interview coming this week!
Thank you for your service officer 401
Traffic is very underrated. You do a lot of arrests and can catch all type of people in the car
I agree with your assessment! Good video. Have you made a video about leadership in law enforcement? Both good and bad examples would be nice.
To all police. Please be safe and we support you guys. Thanks for keeping our community safe. Amen.
Congratulations on 12 years!!! I just hit 22 as a firefighter...
These videos are awesome. Thank you!
Yay!!! Congratulations on 600k !!!!
