Wish my dad had the same mentality. He will be ur "friend" but go back to not using his meds, not seeing his doctors, not seeking help but being locked up time after time. Legally, the state says even with his EXTENSIVE mental issues after military, no one can keep him against his will. Even now that he is homeless. But he doesn't want help. Or not the kind that this guy wanted and realized he needed.

Honestly, these type of stories, as well as other stories I read online is what enhanced the interest in this career field of law enforcement and security. Of course, there are other things like guns, cars, and lights when you back to things I liked as a child. Now I am a Security Forces Defender in the Air Force. Thank you 401 for your informative and entertaining content.

That doesn't seem like a dumb arrest at all, but a great story. Sad, for sure, because that's exactly what the guy wanted. I'm glad you, of all cops, were the one to take him in, and that he got the help he needed in the end.

That’s great that you were accepted in that area. Also, apparently the man must of needed that time in jail to help straighten his life. Also thank you for taking the time out of your day for speaking with him. People need to just to talk sometimes. Who knows, you maybe saved his life, sometimes when people get that low in there life, will take their life.
Great job Officer401. You are an amazing man/cop. 👮🏼‍♀️ We need more like you out there.

This is just a badass story and amazing vid...I'm a former deputy and combat vet who now works with at risk kids in a middle school...when these kids act out, sometimes violently, I have to dig deep to remember what they're going through mentally (for instance, two of my boys are now experiencing their first holiday season since losing their moms to drugs)...keep fighting the good fight brother, we're on different fronts, but equally important in these people's lives...

Here's my favorite one: I was in a parking lot just talking with this lady that I knew from previous encounters was a crackhead. She wasn't in any trouble, I just saw her and she saw me and started chatting. In the middle of this conversation she slowly reaches into her hoodie pocket, pulls out a crackpipe, and VERY obviously leans over and puts it on the ground. Maintains eye contact the entire time. I sigh and tell her shes under arrest and place her in cuffs, all while shes saying she doesn't know what she's being arrested for and she's never seen that crackpipe and doesn't know who's it could be.

I'm not even from the same country as this guy and I'm pretty sure I'd fly there, rent a car, disconnect a tail light or something just to get pulled over haha. Even if not just him, his entire PD (as well as several others in the US) seem to be completely awesome. Conversely, in my own country I carry spare lights for all types of bulb in my car, jump leads, a jerry can, basic tools and $50 on me at all times (tell you why in a second). If not for myself, for helping others. Avoiding all cop interactions I possibly can. Even having those on-site and offering to fix the issue immediately still isn't a guarantee I won't have to dish out a bribe (or "coffee" as they call it here) to avoid getting out of the interaction without being charged for some BS they make up on the spot...
"Pretty sure if we sit down for some coffee we can think through this more clearly" is the standard LEO go-to line here. Pay up. Or they WILL harass you with something. It makes me sick. Some departments might go light on it but it's still a constant fear AND I still haven't really found a way to consistently get informed on how to handle interactions with LEOs here...

    60 dollars * 12 hours = 720 dollar hours^2
I did the math, but something feels wrong. Oh, right, it's 60 dollars per hour
    So,
    60 dollars / hour * 12 hours = x
    (60 dollars x 12) * hours / hours = x
    60 dollars * 12 = x
    Thus:
    x = 720 dollars

Dumbest arrest? I sure have a hard time seeing it that way. Dumb moment? Sure! But definitely not on your part, mainly because of the clerk. Imagine what he could have done the same day had you not taken him in after the store owner decided against pressing charges. We lose too many veterans every day because they can't get immediate help and you, you made it to where we lost one less that day and who knows how many other days, all because you did your job. Interact with people and make hard calls. Another 12/24 hours waiting on a qualified therapist that might not even get the job done could have had life-long consequences including loss of life and that goes for anybody, not just veterans, some people just know how easy it is to get that immediate help they know they need and this is one of those examples. Just sayin'

Officer401, I really enjoy your stories. What you did for that Vietnam Vet is wonderful by taking him to jail and turning his life around. A family friend of mine is a veteran from Vietnam and I knew a little bit about his service; he served for a little under five years in the USMC, was a POW, etc... He used to suffer tremendously with PTSD. He'd often lock himself in the restroom speaking in Vietnamese. He still suffers from PTSD today, but it's gotten better. It's unfortunate a lot of these men lacked proper treatment when they came home for their condition. They got hassled by civilians.
There was some stuff I did learn about him when I pulled information up about him online, that he never mentioned. He was a POW for one or two days, before he and another man broke out of POW camp. I was thoroughly impressed after learning that.

I agree with your observation late in the video, not a "dumb" arrest but a "sad" arrest. Great story with a good ending as the Vietnam vet got the help he needed. You did good.

This will probably be the new format. It's much easier to film and sync everything this way. But who knows...maybe I'll do an old-school one for the hell of it sometime :)

Rick Nash Every week theres kind of a spreadsheet of overtime job offerings like the one he's doing. The senior officers get first pickings and the newer officers get the scraps. You can choose to take the jobs and you can choose not to, but the overtime pays are so good that most people will take em, it's inevitable. You don't do much, it's like they're paying you to just be there literally. I'd say take construction site jobs that's a definite if you can find one. 40% of the time you're in your vehicle, the rest is either you're talking to people to get through the day or dozing off from boredom. But most if not a large najority of OT jobs offered are so relaxed and easy that you'll sacrifice that little bit of free social life because you'll make so much money that when the time comes for you to use your 10-20 days of vacation time you'll make up for it.

I grew up in a small town and got arrested when i was 17 for "mailboxing." Long story short they never gave my parents a citation of release so they couldn't charge me with the felonies i would have faced. Now i don't know if they did that because i had no history with the law and the sheriffs didn't want to ruin my life or because the fact i was with someone who was 18 and had prior charges...but ever since that night i've became really good friends with the sheriffs that put me in cuffs and realized that officers aren't there just to ruin your life, but are there to help you become a better person in the long run. Much respect to officers like your self! Stay safe!
