The beautiful thing is, none of of us know more than these two greats. Huge fan of each. Chet is so smooth. Makes the ridiculous, look like child's play. Les was untouchable in his younger days. Always enthusiastic, brimming with new ideas. Simpler times, created one of kind musicianship. Be thankful you just watched this clip.
This is the coolest guitar moment there's ever been. These two play like they're having a conversation in the kitchen while doing breakfast. This is how music shoud be.
Chet and Les were so cool, and funny, when they performed live. They were both music legends, great friends, performers. And they both had such an amazing sense of humor. They were funny together.
Les Paul and Chet Atkins are guitar monsters. Les Paul's speed picking is otherworldly. It's so on point and fast and with his "Paulverizer" doubling the guitar line it was just unreal. Bravo!!
Incredible Les Paul plays his looper invention in 1978! What guitar masters with Chet...! Our poor technology of today has nothing to do with creativity...
modern shredders couldnt hold the same versatility and finesse as these old cats. Love the first loop pedal attached to Mr Pauls bridge. What a rare and humble individual. That crazy shit he was doing at the end, nothing to compare with, save perhaps Zappa.

that was beyond amazing...both playing the guitars named after them and Les Paul with the mind blowing fusion riffs at the end...he was and still is in a class of "amazing" all by himself
To anyone who might like to know, FYI, in mid 60s I heard Chet Atkins shred like Bon Jovi and Van Halen. Chet played both clean and dirty, Les Paul invented the little back box that could play multiple tracks at the same time. It was so small it would mount in front of the bridge.
There are certainly many, many, many great guitar artists but the 2 "smoothest" players are Les Paul and Chet Atkins. Uncannily flawless, even between each note. Simply amazing. Thank you so much for posting this.
Just Lester Paul. Technical-wise, there are death metal bands out there who play with more technique than les paul. But considering his era of music, he's probably the only one who can play like that.
Arthur Napolitano One thing to keep in mind, comparing Les Paul to today's metal guys, is that Les is playing with a clean sound, and with what kind of action? As you know, it's easier to play fast if you have a fuzzed out, super-saturated sound, on a metal guitar with a very low action. I've seen Television live, and Tom Verlaine and Richard Loyd work their asses off to play that stuff on Strats with almost no distortion.
wow, that was awesome. thanks for sharing!! I wish I had seen of one of les' weekly shows in n.y.c., I definitely missed out there. I would give nearly anything to have that guitar with les' delay pedal built right on. don't want to forget chet, just as amazing as the legend himself.

Les Paul just made some guitarists pack away their guitars for a long time. That stuff at the end was insane.
