As a somewhat-respectable (non-pro) guitarist who has truly always loved the instrument and the people who play them ~ I find it amusing when I see headers like 'World's greatest guitarist' and the like. Atkins is one of the greatest pickers of the 20th Century and Knopfler one of the most uniquely-gifted rockers ~ who as one can plainly hear can play way outside of the rock genre. You cannot miss the mutual admiration seen on this clip. What lovely playing!
A master and his apprentice. You see the love and respect here. Knopfler understands how much more there is to learn and the interplay between them captures it so well. No wonder this has 10 million views - I never get tired of it and I'm sure many others feel the same. Music is timeless.

As God told Bender on Futurama... If you're doing it right, nobody will ever be sure you did anything at all. This applies to Mark Knopfler. He wasn't in it for the fame, and still isn't. He's in it for love of the craft. (for what it's worth, the same applies to Chet Atkins)

And this is very simple compared to the stuff he can put together.
I’m enjoying this so much! Mark has the most endearing, genuine smile!
No matter how many times I watch this I am still in awe. Watching these masters at work is timeless.
What lovely playing!
couldn't agree more dude.
Exactly. I'm sure Chet would have said and Mark would say 'there is no greatest/best guitarist'. Two of my 'favorites'.
I hope this never gets deleted
Two of the greatest music Masters in the world! Jamming together- what a TREAT! 🎸
Still one of the best videos ever to come back and chill to. Absolute magic - the kind that's hard to see these days.
A master and his apprentice. You see the love and respect here. Knopfler understands how much more there is to learn and the interplay between them captures it so well. No wonder this has 10 million views - I never get tired of it and I'm sure many others feel the same. Music is timeless.
The ultimate bromance - both enjoying the beauty of each other's playing. Love revisiting this performance ❤
2 Two legendary guitar players at the same time. We live in great times.
It is unnatural how effortless they make that look. What spectacular performances.
What amazes me is Mark Knopfler's name never shows up on lists of greatest guitar players.
I know. :(
Who doesn't love Sultans of Money for nothing? Iconic guitar riffs everyone knows.
hes not exactly rock. which is probably why you dont see him on these unnamed lists you are reffering to. Generally speaking hes still probably one of the best known guitarists in the world thats still around. Like as in foreign places that cant speak english all those latin countries that still listen to 70s and 80s alot etc.
Huh,? I hear that all the time
I absolutely love his playing...he really fingerpicks everything including his lead instrumentals and I find it exquisite!!

Your vibrato Mark will always be in my heart every winter
Two of my all time guitar heroes, when they played "imagine" it sent shivers through me, absolutely fantastic
