Chet was the master! The picker that made me pick up the guitar at 10 years old, 45 years ago! I'm still playin! Thanks Chet, for planting that seed, so long ago👍. R.I.P.
Chet has history. He IS history. The most musically complete guitarist of all time in my opinion. But l love them all, from Django, Joe Pass, Tommy Emmanuel, Jerry Reed to all the others who also loved the older masters!
Yup but Vince ain't a slouch and in the interview you can tell Vince is in awe and thought it was great that Chet says he wishes he could do what another player he admires can do. As a musician that means a lot when it comes from any peer especially one that you totally admire
Chet was a genius; Vince extraordinarily mega gifted. Both were filled with humility and kindness, which elevates them both to rarified air. Untouchable.
Chet Atkins, one of the best in the world ever!! Vince Gill was obviously thrilled to death to be playing music with Chet Atkins and likewise for Chet. I got to see Chet Atkins only once in my lifetime and I'll never forget the concert. Chet was onstage just like he was off stage. A country gentleman, classy gent to say the least. You live on Chet, you live on!!!
Chet puts him on the spot at 3:15. Pretty good for a guy who is in the presence of a legend. At the end he get's out of the way and let's the legend finish. Knowing when to play and knowing when not to helps define greatness.
When Vince says that Chet's playing "blew his mind and still does" , you can see the admiration and respect he has for this icon of music.... All my best to you sir....Mr. Atkins
Grew up in the 60's listening to Chet and others. His guitar made a melody sound like someone singing. Chet was smooth like we've never heard.....and Vince a voice like we've never heard. Great Combo
Vince always displays humble, respectful of others, a class act, and great humor that I love as well as being such a great singer, song writer, and a world class guitarist.
classical music 74. his biggest asset is his humanity. he is all you say and a great humnan being as well. i have seen this guy four or five times in person and twice i watched him cry unashamedly when singing about his father and his brother. his feelings are on his sleeve and he doesn't care who sees it.
@@denisjl100 exactly this man, Vince, writes his songs, sing his songs, and plays (on guitar) his songs better than damn near anyone out there. The best musicians hone their craft from their heart, Vince in one of the rare few that can do the three from his heart. Writing, singing, guitar playing (or any instrument), he is damn good, but when put together, yeah he is one of the best of all time. A once in a lifetime talent is what Vince truly is.
Chet was and will always be the master. His self accompaniment is just a wonderful thing to hear. In his later years he would fall asleep in his chair every night playing his guitar.
I remember a music book I somehow wound up with as a young guitarist, and Chet's transcriptions almost look like a foreign language to me. I have enjoyed listening to both of these guitarists through the years. Each for what they bring to the table for all of us to enjoy. My wife once asked Vince during a rare opportunity we got to meet him, "my husband wants to know why his strat does not sound as good as yours." He just smiled at me, and said he had no social life.
I had an original copy of "Chet Atkins Picks on the Beatles". It is priceless and what he does to those familiar songs is jaw-dropping. Michelle and Yesterday in particular. Vince makes it look easy, Chet confirms just how difficult it is.
I happened on to these videos when I was researching for Gibson Guitars. And boy, what a joy it has been to listen to these. I taught guitar for 14 years and it brought back a lot of memories.
I just love that tone. I will go to my grave in awe at the beauty of guitars that sound like this. For the most part I will never understand why people use effects. This is how the guitar was meant to sound and be played. I have played a long time now and could never get the skill of these two ( I was never obessed like chet and vince about the practice required) but if and when I get the tone right I have reached my goal.
Far canal, that's some pickin'. These guys are legends, and doubly great together. Lovely ringin' tone from those guitars. Thanks for this priceless upload!
What a wonderful clip. It's great seeing the generations connect. Both clearly have so much respect for the other's work and talent. I enjoyed this very much, thank you.
Being a musician for yrs, incl playinh, piano, tenor banjo, guitar, mandolin, string bass, sax & clarinet, I do know musical talent & having met Vince Gill in person & watched him perform, he's a great guitarist & singer.
Such warmth and kind words exchanged from two incredible artists as guitarists! On the same "Freight Train", both possess lovely gifts and what is more, the respect and humbleness shown between these legends is so exemplary. You can really see how much Vince loved and admired Chet, and that he was so honored to be there him in that moment and revealing how mind-blowing Mr. Guitar really is, was and always will be. Chet shows immense gratitude and gives such a wonderful response towards Gil as he shows the world that Vince is truly a gifted player. For me personally, this is a wonderful find and thank you for posting this gem!
Anytime Chet plays, he can put a smile on your face. Such an extraordinary talent and a great loss now he's gone. He did an album with Mark Knophler called Neck and Neck which is still one of my favourite examples of two masters playing together.
I'll second that. Neck and Neck is one of my favorites albums, and Mark Knopfler is often overlooked as a guitarist, but he is one of the greats too. Chet Atkins with the Boston Pops is a great bunch of music too.
There are many guitar players in the world that can technically out play Chet (it doesn't make them the overall best). But the one thing they could not do was out entertain Chet. Chet Atkins was the peoples guitar player and there hasn't been another one since his death (Tommy Emmanual is the closest one to Chet). I saw an Austin City Limits performance on TV years ago. Chet did a song about his dad that had been written by someone else. Chet was not known for his singing talent. Chet sang this song with no fancy guitar work that he was famous for. As the camera panned the audience it was clear that there was not one man that did not have tears in his eyes. This was the most Powerful Performance I had ever seen in my life. When you impress people with your playing, that is good. When you can reach inside and grab them emotionally, that is GOLDEN. Chet could do it and you cannot learn that in any music college. You learn how to do it when you mature as an open minded musician that has performed for countless crowds of people. Chet certainly did that and learned from his experience to end up being the most sought after Nashville Studio Guitarist and well known TV guitarist. RIP Chet and thanks for entertaining me since I started playing at 10 years old. I always knew you were the best.
@Vince Gill 🔵 I truly like that you can play any instrument that you pick up. And the fact that you are truly country. I now live in Maryland. But I was born and partly raised in SW Virginia. A little town called Hurley, Va. near Grundy, Va. So naturally, my heart is still in the Applications Mountains. I understand that you are from Kentucky. Not too far from where I am from. We share that fact along with a few other country entertainers like Ricky Skaggs and Patty Loveless to name a couple. Vince just keeps on doing what you are doing. You are truly one of the best Country Entaniers. Thank you so much for replying to my post. God Bless you always.
Vince Gill is a legend. He is such a humble personality ..great guitarist ..super singer.his voice like an angel also song wrter.. God gave him so much talents . Nice.
The guitar, unlike all the other instruments, can be played in one hundred - a thousand ways and each of them expresses a personality. Greetings. ua-cam.com/video/eavkz78hWL8/v-deo.html *SHAZAM!* Gretsch Guitar cover by *Duane Eddy*

"You're killin' me, Chet." Both excellent in their own rights - both very humble men.
Miss you, Chet.
Chet has history. He IS history. The most musically complete guitarist of all time in my opinion. But l love them all, from Django, Joe Pass, Tommy Emmanuel, Jerry Reed to all the others who also loved the older masters!
Yep! 100% On all points you made.
Yup but Vince ain't a slouch and in the interview you can tell Vince is in awe and thought it was great that Chet says he wishes he could do what another player he admires can do. As a musician that means a lot when it comes from any peer especially one that you totally admire

Atkins and Vince Gill are too great guitar players love to hear them play the guitars together

What talent on one stage! Chet and Vince, both fantastic musicians and gentlemen...
Vince always displays humble, respectful of others, a class act, and great humor that I love as well as being such a great singer, song writer, and a world class guitarist.

Much like Chet, he takes an interest in young talent and does everything he can to help them.

Wow. Chet Atkins what a gift and that young feller (back in the day this was filmed) such a talent as well.

This is why the Eagles pegged Vince after Glen passed. Vocals and guitar play are both elite.
Pure pickin gold masterclass. Two humble, talented musicians in a friendly sparring match.
Chet is the first guitarist I heard as a kid every Saturday morning at 6:00 am growing up. Cool dad had great taste ✌🏻🎸❤️
Such an honorable and humble man. Wish there were more like him with his love and Morals.
Wow. What a humble talented man. I love country music. It makes my heart happy. Best music ever.
2 guitar masters; complimentary yet confident in their talent; great post
Great respect displayed by Vince. He didn't even want to solo in front of Chet.. RESPECT.
Be still my heart...damn
"You're killin' me Chet." When Vince Gill wants to lay out you know he's facing the master.
chet on his death bed could crush just about anyone
Vince. Gill. Is. My. Favorite. Singer. Has. Been. Ever. Since. The. First. Time. I. Heard. Him. Sing
No. One. Cañ. Beat. Him
I could listen to Chet ALL DAY LONG.....I like Vince too....
Vince Gill aparantely have the background vocal on Chet Atkins & Mark Knopflers 'The Next Time I'm In Town'. What a trio!
I had an original copy of "Chet Atkins Picks on the Beatles". It is priceless and what he does to those familiar songs is jaw-dropping. Michelle and Yesterday in particular. Vince makes it look easy, Chet confirms just how difficult it is.

Well, I am sure vince used some pedals, my dood. But you can't beat Chet, that's a fact.
Way to go! Love, love. Thanks for great tunes.
Just great, awesome and well I ran out of words to say. I've been playing guitar for over 60 years and Chet and Vince together is guitar heaven.
Chet Atkins is definitely one of the best guitar pickers of all time, Vince Gill is right behind him
What a joy to see these two masters together !
"You're killing me, Chet"..... that statement was priceless!!

Great playing... Very tasteful playing with Chet .
Awesome player Chet Atkins. Unique in his own ways. Humouros interview. Vince did a great job
That was just beautiful. All the things I love about life and music in a brief clip. Humility stands out all the more nowadays.
Absolutely a joy to watch two of the best play a song by one of my favorite songwriters "Woody Guthrie"! Thank you for uploadin' this!
Great respect, for both. Amazing talent.
Great! 2 tremendous guitar players! ...thanks for posting. Peace & Blessings, Mario
I wonder how Vince felt when Chet said I wish I could do what Vince does on the guitar? Humbleness from both men.

There will never be another gentleman, nor another guitar slinger quite like Chet. Thank you Lord, for that guy.
vince is a great guitarist,,,CHET IS THE GREATEST OF ALL TIME…THANKS for this great piece of history
damn right Son
Two legendary guitar players playing together. Wow !!!!!

Awesome pick'in. Thanks for posting.
I miss u Mr Atkins. What a talent. So many gone.
Beatles cover album was the first for me, I was in my twenties and had only recently dove into the Beatles catalogue. Chet blew my mind.
I loved it. Great interview and great guitar-playing. No wonder Mark Knopfler asked Vince Gill to join the Dire Straits. He's good! Grtz, DutchRecords
it's amazing to watch two fantastic players like this. thanks for the post

NZ
Chet was dam amazing!!!! Those guitars are classics, awesome
Thanks for sharing this upload. Just loved it and THUMBS UP
Eric
Chet had the guitar playing DNA. You have to be born with the talent he had.
The two best pickers in the entire world. It doesn't get any better than this. Thanks for sharing your video.
@Vince Gill 🔵 I truly like that you can play any instrument that you pick up. And the fact that you are truly country. I now live in Maryland. But I was born and partly raised in SW Virginia. God,...I love it. My Roots to the core.
Vince is like a beginner when sitting next to Chet....Thanks for posting.
That might be the funniest, most wholesome, and musically entertaining video I've ever seen.
So rare it’s right here on UA-cam for everyone to see
Even Vince knew he was in the shadow of pure greatness
I met Chet Atkins at the airport in Dallas in 2002. He was one of the nicest people I've ever met in my life. RIP, Chet.
when Eric Johnson and Brian Setzer say Chet was the best.. he was the best
+frank maffa Yep.
True God given talent, honed and perfected, I grew up on his music and so many of the greats, my Grandparents played nothing else.
Singing ain't bad!!! Love it!!!
Mind blowing talent!
Beautiful!
Once Mr. Gill got past his bashfulness, he laid down a lovely line. Just a great moment in guitar-player history.
147 people thumbs down two of the best guitar players from two different generations playing together. Wow. Why watch it, if you just hate life in general.
Chet, Jerry, Glen. Ten million guitars. Thank you for posting Mr. Deep Waters.
Smooth, calm, and effortless. When your that good you don't have to show out. Nice! Thanks for posting this, WSRD.
Hello
I am French, please, can someone tell me, what is the name of the song that Chet and Vince play in this clip, thank you
C'est "Going down the road feeling bad".
Merci beaucoup, c'est sympa
à une prochaine fois ;o)
wonderful!
thank-you reall enjoyed this!
Yow! Such talent. So different and from the same roots.
Fun fact. All great rock guitar players have country axe masters on their list of “damn I wish I could do that”. And Chet takes lead on that list too!
Can you imagine sitting down to play guitar with Chet Atkins and then in the middle of the song he tells you to take it. I would lock up. Props to both of these guys.
It's so cool that this is in stereo!
Awesome!
