Almost 30 years later and that slo-mo/reverse scene still kills me. When this came out, I had never seen anyone do a “backwards talk” before and it blew my mind, even though it’s all just gibberish.
A reason Einhorn touched the blood at the apartment might've been because she was murderer. So if she was worried that was HER blood, then contaminating it makes sense.

Fun fact: In the television version Ace goes into a bar and there's a scene based around that. But with television they often have scenes not otherwise seen in movies.
Yes, the scene comes just before Ace goes to the home of Ray Finkle's parents; at the bar, Ace is attempting to track Finkle down. I think that this, too, is on the VHS copy, but is missing from the DVD/Blu-Ray editions.

It's interesting to remember that prior to this Jim Carey was most known for In Living Color. So the producers saw that and decied that he deserved a starring vehicle.
Interesting facts about Ace Ventura: Pet Detective (1994) Jim Carrey revealed on Inside the Actors Studio (1994) that he based Ace Ventura on a smart bird. "A cockatiel or a parakeet of some kind. The clothing I picked was all ... like a colorful bird, a tropical bird. The walk was bird-like. Everything was about a bird when I spoke ... Everything was based on a bird, even the hairstyle." (2) Ace Ventura's landlord is named Mr. Shickadance. When Jim Carrey was growing up in Toronto, he lived in an apartment building that was managed by Schikedanz Brothers. (3) Jim Carrey had his own personal chef on the set of the film, who also was required to prepare meals for Carrey's pet iguana. (4) Rick Moranis turned down the role of Ace Ventura. (5) In a 2011 interview, Tom Shadyac admitted that when he first saw the film, he was worried that it might end his and Jim Carrey's careers. It didn't, as it became one of the year's most unexpected smash hits which launched both their careers, although Carrey's would have considerably more longevity.😊😊
- Hard to nail down a favorite quote... might be Ace's response to if he's ever heard of F.A.N. ... " 'Free Animals Now'. Started in 1982, by Chelsea Gamble, daughter of the famous industrialist Fisher Gamble. Over half a million members from Florida to Finland. NO. WHO ARE THEY?!?!" . Close second is ANY of the exchanges with Ray Finkle's mom. Then there's the Rodger Podacter apartment monologue, which I remember actually memorizing as a teenager THAT'S how much me & my friends loved this movie. - Not just one, but TWO GHOSTBUSTERS alums... the librarian (Ray Finkle's mom), AND the Mayor (the doctor from the asylum, who was ABSOLUTELY laughing now that you mention it). - Never noticed the GHOSTBUSTERS connection OR the apples & banana. - The second one had some good lines & scenes, but I definitely like this one more. Gave it a smidge of sincerity that the other one's missing, and as such, Ace in the second one is just a caricature of the character. The dolphin trainer scene wasn’t in the theatrical version of the movie. It was cut for pacing reasons but when they made the vhs the director added it back in.
This is one of the movies I have the biggest connection to, my oldest sister works with Autistic Kids and once spent a day hanging out with Dan Marino (who has an autistic kid) and as a kid I went on a field trip to a Renaissance Fair that was being held on the grounds of the building used in the party scene, the place where Ace falls into the shark tank, I've walked on those same steps they walk up when they enter the party. the next biggest connection I have to a movie is that same sister was an Extra in the restaurant scene in the movie Cape Fear.
@@WoahLookAtThatFreak That's right! Another Scarface/Breaking Bad connection, Stephen Bauer was Manny in Scarface and Don Eladio in Breaking Bad. How did I miss this?!?!
There’s two actors from ghostbusters in this film. Ray Finkles mom was the librarian and the nuthouse doctor was the mayor in the first two movies. The “nap time” scene where Ace swings the hook at the kidnappers the scene was actually longer. The hook took the kidnappers head off and they needed to bring the rating down below an “R” so they cut away from the actual hit.
You missed the “Holy testicle Tuesday “ phrase and then the show Finkel dressed as Einhorn. Love that quote so much and it makes so much more sense at the end of the movie.
At the time this came out, it was Metro Dade County (now Miami-Dade). My dad worked for Dade County Transportation at the time. South Dade was a fictional police dept name. I just could not stop! They do mix up the players in years. Marco Coleman played in the 90s and early 00s; Dwight Stevenson played in the 80s; Jeff Uhlenake and Scott Mitchell played in the 90s; Jeff Dellenbach in the 80s and 90s; Kim Bokamper played in the 70s and 80s; Jeff Cross in the late 80s and 90s. Oh and wasn't this Jim Carrey's first major starring role in Hollywood? Talk about kicking the door to the big time off the hinges. What a way to announce yourself on the big stage. What a performance by Jim.
I studied film and will remember ALWAYS my directing teacher talking at length about the importance of not letting performances become performative, not letting actors emote over feeling true emotions, never allowing projection of thought when the thought itself will communicate more through the lens by itself… “unless you’re working with a Jim Carey. A Jim Carey will break all those rules”… Never a truer word!
Yes, me too. This movie was my life for so many years! I quoted it daily… whenever I see a UPS truck I say “HDS! HDS coming through, gotta package people!”
It shows how versatile and talented Jim Carrey. There’s no other comedian as versatile as Jim Carrey… aside from Robin Williams. They both blow all other comedians outta the water
26:27 If you watch the reverse slo-mo scene again watch Courtney Cox you can see her shoulders shaking and she's trying to hide her face from the camera 😂
There's another cut scene from the TV edit of this, where Ace actually gets on stage with the death metal band Cannibal Corpse after his initial meeting, and it's a great example Jim Carrey's manic energy.
Not only did they cut the Dolphin trainer scene, there's another deleleted scene where Ace makes a call from a bar near Finkle's house. He pulls out a contact lens and breaks it on the bar to defend himself.
Here's 2 reaction suggestions, number 1 The voices, horror comedy starring Ryan Reynolds as the lead, number 2 Grabbers, irish horror comedy, a movie to drink to, would be fun reactions.
Ya, I remember the dolphin trainer scene from the VHS but for some reason its cut in other versions. Can't believe it was cut. One of the best parts of the movie
Oh by the way yesterday I found a dog who had fallen inside the river but couldn't get out and saved it! Afterwards I posted photos of the dog on the internet and the owners who were looking everywhere for the poor thing found the post and came to the location to take their dog! They were all in tears thanking me... I felt a little like Ace Ventura pet detective! haha...
Funny story me and my fmaily all loved this movie so much as a kid... we named our pet lovebird ACE because the way we 'acquired' him reminded us of the white dove/white pigeon scene at the beginning of this movie. Ace was a rescue bird that my dad FOUND escaped in the streets of boston. He was hopping along the sidewalk etc in the city and my dad tried to save him from getting stepped on etc cause a little tropical bird would not last long in the city but i guess it took my dad like 2 hours to rescue him he was following this little bird around stalking him thru the city trying to catch him lol. Ace Ventura had just come out and was a big movie at the time and was a movie my family watched on repeat quite often so one day my dad brought home this little bird and was saying how trying to catch him reminded him of ace ventura trying to catch the white dove.... so thats what we ended up naming him ! little Ace the lovebird. he was one of my first pets and we had that little bird for years
I finally got and clicked at the Poltergeist bit the exact same moment Mrs Movie did... finally, decades later, having seen Poltergeist years before I first saw Ace Ventura. Always thought he was just doing a southern preacher type thing. A small piece of my universe has come to rest.
One of the absolute best moments for me is when he goes to Camps gala and yanks the cellists arm for no reason other than he can. Pure f*ckery for the sake of it.
didn't know the mrs was such a fan of physical comedy! friends and the office aren't really that physical and she said they were some of her fav shows, so was thought she was more into that stuff
The guy at the door in the fancy suit looked like a Cruise ship captain from the Love Boat show that was on a few years ago. That's who Jim is referencing when he asked permission to come aboard.
Okay totally unrelated but at 23:50 I heard the talkshow clapping and cheering and got confused for a second not remembering that from the movie, then realized why you added it and my heart melted lol
The dolphin trainer scene was taken out of the theatrical release becuase the directed didnt like the pacing, he thought it slowed down the movie. It is on the VHS version as a selling point of 'extra footage not shown in theaters". Then taken out again. Im not even sure there is a DVD version of that scene. Could be wrong on that though.
I highly recommend another Jim Carrey movie that is even early than pet detective! titled "Earth Girls Are Easy" I believe this came out around 1987! So this is when we get the first taste of his comedic brilliance! Also staring Jeff Goldblum. Cheers!✌️❤️❤️
The dolphin talker scene was on the original VHS, but the first version without it was on HBO. I never knew why either, it was also my favorite scene as a kid.
You can see Courtney Cox smirking and trying to hold in the laughter at 26:35 I don't think I would of been able to do it. My favorite lines are "Your number still 911? Alrighty then" and "Excuse me, is Greg here? ... Thank you"
I saw a real pet detective in action in a Japanese documentary! It followed her around and showed how she finds and catches pets... of course paid by the owner!
NOoO! why would they cut out the dolphin trainer scene?! that was one of the best parts of the movie haha "I am saying to Snowflake, "Akay!... Akay Akay Akay?" und he is saying "AKay Akay!" und he is up on ze tail "Eeeeeeeeee!" und you can quote him! ..:::SPITS: at Feet::: "
We bought little football cakes for the Super Bowl this year and in the supermarket, I turned to my gf and said "look, they're little footballs" and she replied with "laces out!". Lol
The TV version of the entire movie, at least the one televised on CMT, edits out certain sections of the theatrical cut. However, those cuts are replaced with multiple deleted scenes. Look them up sometime. They actually enhance some of the story.
one of my favorite lines that I had forgotten is, "If I'm not back in 5 minutes... just wait longer."
Yeah I've use that line when served customers who are rude lol

Oh and wasn't this Jim Carrey's first major starring role in Hollywood? Talk about kicking the door to the big time off the hinges. What a way to announce yourself on the big stage. What a performance by Jim.
Dude that brady tuck rule comment deserved more than it got, bravo sir
I studied film and will remember ALWAYS my directing teacher talking at length about the importance of not letting performances become performative, not letting actors emote over feeling true emotions, never allowing projection of thought when the thought itself will communicate more through the lens by itself… “unless you’re working with a Jim Carey. A Jim Carey will break all those rules”… Never a truer word!
So that's why I have the dorsal fin part on my copy of it... I've always wondered that..
it would be nice to see Cable Guy on the channel too, for me one of the best roles of the legendary Carrey
Early Jim Carey reminds me a lot of Robin Williams. A comedy force of nature, anarchic, chaotic and very funny.
One Of Jim Carrey's Best Performances Ever Made, Cool Reaction As Always Mr. & Mrs. Movies, You Both Have A Good Night
Literally quoted this movie for about a decade or two
Yes, me too. This movie was my life for so many years! I quoted it daily… whenever I see a UPS truck I say “HDS! HDS coming through, gotta package people!”
Man, this so made me wanna rewatch his 1991 "Unnatural Act" Comedy Special for the 200th time...What a talent!
It shows how versatile and talented Jim Carrey. There’s no other comedian as versatile as Jim Carrey… aside from Robin Williams. They both blow all other comedians outta the water
My personal favorite line has always been: Yes, Satan? Oh, I'm sorry, sir. You sounded like someone else.
Such an iconic movie.
Yes, but unfortunately people these days are offended by it 😒🙄
26:27 If you watch the reverse slo-mo scene again watch Courtney Cox you can see her shoulders shaking and she's trying to hide her face from the camera 😂
There's another cut scene from the TV edit of this, where Ace actually gets on stage with the death metal band Cannibal Corpse after his initial meeting, and it's a great example Jim Carrey's manic energy.
"I gotta go guys, I've got a date with your MOTHERS." 😂😂😂😂😂
Not only did they cut the Dolphin trainer scene, there's another deleleted scene where Ace makes a call from a bar near Finkle's house. He pulls out a contact lens and breaks it on the bar to defend himself.
“Heinz Kissvelvet” 😂😂😂
Hector Salamanca is the landlord!
Salamanca did !
Salamanca money !
Salamanca blood !
The OGs know him as the Shadow in Scarface.
@@doesnotexist305 yeah baby !
and also, tony montana's mother is tuco's granny in BCS .
and also Manny Ribera = Don Eladio
I felt a little like Ace Ventura pet detective! haha...
this is one of my favorite childhood movies... so much of it went over my head as a kid but i still loved it .
When he said "stars your favorite Friend," i also immedaitely thought "Snowflake?". 😂😂
Ace Ventura had just come out and was a big movie at the time and was a movie my family watched on repeat quite often so one day my dad brought home this little bird and was saying how trying to catch him reminded him of ace ventura trying to catch the white dove.... so thats what we ended up naming him ! little Ace the lovebird. he was one of my first pets and we had that little bird for years
That comment at the start about him living next to Dexter was great. Never crossed my mind. Greetings from Serbia
You're right Ray finkle's mother in this movie is the librarian in the opening scene of Ghostbusters
The guy at the door in the fancy suit looked like a Cruise ship captain from the Love Boat show that was on a few years ago. That's who Jim is referencing when he asked permission to come aboard.
the guy dressed like a sailor is captain stubing from the love boat series of the 80's
Lol! No it’s not, he just looked like him. That’s why he called him that 😂
Okay totally unrelated but at 23:50 I heard the talkshow clapping and cheering and got confused for a second not remembering that from the movie, then realized why you added it and my heart melted lol
3:20 I did that to a noisy dog on our street once. You've never seen a more confused dog! :D
The scene that always gets me is when he walks by the cellist and just pull his arm randomly 😂😂😂
I grew up on the VHS, so whenever I see it online I'm always so confused/upset that scene isn't there! xD
Peak Jim Carrey is the funniest man ever in Hollywood.
NOoO! why would they cut out the dolphin trainer scene?! that was one of the best parts of the movie haha
"I am saying to Snowflake, "Akay!... Akay Akay Akay?" und he is saying "AKay Akay!" und he is up on ze tail "Eeeeeeeeee!" und you can quote him! ..:::SPITS: at Feet::: "
That doctor when Ace is being committed is the mayor from the first ghostbusters.
Legendary movie
Legendary actor
Just another masterpiece from Jim!
*COMEDY GOD*
I love the reaction when your daughter comes in
Used to have the VHS back in the day. Blew me away seeing all the extra scenes on the TV version.
Watched this movie when I was a child and it's still one of my favorites!
Notice the dr at the looney bin is the mayor from ghostbusters
We bought little football cakes for the Super Bowl this year and in the supermarket, I turned to my gf and said "look, they're little footballs" and she replied with "laces out!". Lol
The TV version of the entire movie, at least the one televised on CMT, edits out certain sections of the theatrical cut. However, those cuts are replaced with multiple deleted scenes. Look them up sometime. They actually enhance some of the story.
When I first saw this I was working at Airborne Express, a now defunct overnight UPS. The opening scene is exaggerated but not untrue.
" Excuse me. Is Greg here ? Thank you.😂😂
Aces landlord looks like the guy thats in a wheel chair in one if those breaking bad shows, or something like it.
If you haven't seen it you should check out The Crying Game (1992) , it'll make the song use in this film funnier
That was the actual actor that played Captain Stubing on the Love Boat.
