Why Jim Carrey Is One Of The Only Actors You Can’t Replace

  • Jim Carrey is one actor that no one can follow. His comedic intelligence, and off the wall physical comedy is something that only he possesses. Which is why any time movie studios try and replicate Jim Carrey's magic in the form of a sequel, it fails. But what makes Jim Carrey the one actor no one can replace?

An aspect you didnt mention, is the fact that when he first hit the scene, everyone mocked him for being a terrible actor. Saying he only did faces, and talk with his butt, but now we're sitting here watching a youtube video on how he's irreplaceable. I hope the critics in the 90's understand how wrong they were.

To be fair, those movies were mostly him doing faces and talking with his butt. It's just that it didn't matter, he was hilarious. And turns out he is a great actor too as later films showed he could do more than make us laugh with outrageous over the top antics. His roll in Cable Guy was funny, creepy, and at times genuinely scary, Eternal Sunshine showed he could do drama, and on and on the list goes. Great actor, once in a lifetime comedic performer.

It didn't require any uniquely Jim Carrey traits. That being said, it was great to watch a guy known primarily for comedy hit a role like that out of the park. Well, during this era where characters are undervalued, a star is a able to inject a certain amount of their own self into their parts. It's the opposite of an actor who vanishes into their role. You know who's doing it, and that lends the role some charm. I think of Meryl Streep in "The Iron Lady," for instance, who was able to humanize a definitely polarizing historical figure, and all of that was attributable to Streep's performance.

Because it's like every role he has played is irreplaceable that no other actor could play those characters like Ace Ventura or The Mask better than Jim Carrey can.
Including for an actor who was skeptical on sequels, At least he has his reasonable conditions to return on some certain ones like Sonic 2 for him to feel genuine on reprising a role on screen.
But all of those Carrey less sequels just proves that those films cannot replicate or have that same magic without Jim Carrey himself.

Jim Carrey doesn't know how much his fans miss him especially, myself as he said "goodbye" to Hollywood, I have a feeling no one will be prepared when Carrey isn't between us anymore. I apologize if I get emotional, but this man like Robin Williams, made me love comedy and he's one of the reasons why I became a comedian. So, if I had him face to face, I'd tell him; "Thank you Jim for making everyone's childhood throughout your movies".

I'm really surprised to hear about the problems JC went through while filming Ace Ventura 2, I think it's one of the few sequels that surpassed the original and one of my all time favourite films.

Robin Williams is an actor who cannot be replaced. I love Jim Carrey's comedy, he's unique and awesome in his own right, definitely one of the greats. Yet when it comes to comedy and one who will forever impact comedy, television and the viewing audience, Robin Williams is the one that cannot be replaced for me.

Jim is more of a physical comedy guy and he played outrageous characters or chose over the top scripts for the most part whereas robin williams chose grounded characters and had realism in the scripts.

You can replace him though. Aladin’s remake made 1 billion dollars without him. Whereas with him the movie made half that at 502 mil in 1992. The movie made more when Robin Williams was replaced. However if you adjust for inflation they made the almost the same amount of money give or take a couple thousand. Jim Carrey’s first movie role before he was at the level of fame he is today (I’m giving Robin Williams the leg up) made 107.2 million dollars in 1994. Which is now worth 2,136,925.79 dollars today however Ace Ventura Jr. the sequel without Jim Carrey made 108,360,063 which is 284,986,965.69 dollars today. That is about an 1/8 of profit without Jim Carrey at the start of his career vs an equal profit without Robin Williams after being well established. Robin Williams can literally be replaced with Will Smith whereas not even Jim Carrey can replace Jim Carrey. You’re entitled to favor Robin Williams however you are incorrect in saying that he is irreplaceable. Also I wasn’t gonna reply to this but I wanted to see if you were anywhere close to correct, and after I figured out the 2009 inflation rates I figured I might as well share this information.

Jim Carrey has nvr received an Oscar, Williams has 1. Jim carrey has 2 golden globes, williams has 4. Jim Carrey has 0 Grammy awards, Williams has 5, Jim carrey has 1 Emmy, williams has 2.
Unlike revenue from films (which comes from a multitude of factors, writing, production, cast, advertising, etc) awards to actors illustrate the ability of the individual in the chosen fields.
Granted both are great actors, yet Williams achievements surpass Carrey's.

@@gettingpolitical awards do not equal success. It’s important to note that Jim Carrey’s personal life made him less likely to receive awards. The Oscar’s are voted by an elite club of like minded people, winning mainly means you know how to kiss ass, Jim Carrey would never be considered because many famous people don’t like how crazy they find him. Also Robin Williams has

You'd never wanna be on the receiving end of one of his jokes at a standup show if you heckled him because he would DESTROY you! He knows that heckler game well and is so refined at handling them. He's quick, witty and funny and you're better off just sitting there in silence than shouting at him.

When I was a kid I was obsessed with Jim Carrey. The only celebrity I ever wrote a letter to. I had Ace Ventura (both) and The Mask memorized word for word. I believe I'm undiagnosed Autistic, and Jim Carrey taught me facial expressions because they were so over-exaggerated.

I absolutely loved his performance in Sonic 2. It was sooooooo good. I think the reason it was so good was because he played it as though Dr Robotic's experiences in exile changed his personality so much he played him as almost a different character. In the first film he was methodical and daunting, but in the second film he was just a mad unhinged lunatic. Honestly, it was a pretty good joker portrayal.
