  • A lot has changed and been updated since my last flight simulation cockpit overview. In this video, I’ll go through all the recent upgrades and some of the mistakes I’ve made along the way. As well as some tips for building your own at the end of the video.
    If you have any questions about my DCS or Microsoft Flight Simulator setup, leave it in the comments section. Also, if you have any recommendations for upgrades or are looking at it think this is just wrong. Call me out! I’m all ears and I love learning and improving.

    Great setup. Also kind of interesting how the HOTAS part of it is the weakest link: the Warthog joystick base is by now highly surpassed by so many alternatives, it really is kind of in the same league as your rudder pedals by this point. Those are the weak links. But if you really like the feel of the Warthog grip in your hands, just plonk it onto a Virpil base, or VKB with an adapter, or RealSim if you want to specialise it for DCS.

    • @g-locmedia
      @g-locmedia  6 місяців тому

    • @karnyvekz
      @karnyvekz 3 місяці тому

      I fully agree to this. Honestly, I think the Warthog is a disappoint. Only the metal grip makes it okay. It is so clunky and inaccurate in my opinion. I would also recommend the VKB base. Virpil probably as well, but no personal opinion. On such a great set, I'd almost say you deserve a better stick solution.

    I have the Thrustmeter TPR pedals, and if they're within your budget, wouldn't recommend anything else! The pivot point is at the _top,_ so they more closely mimic the operation of most real-world aircraft, and they just plain feel better than the sliding pedals or pantograph style pedals. Beyond that, the spring tension is easily adjustable as is the brake pedal angle. There's also a mod available which adds hydraulic damping if you're so inclined. The downside? 1) Obviously the price. 2) I use the TPR on a carpeted floor and found that they slide around all over the place. I _totally_ solved it though by attaching a couple of carpet spikes to the bottom of the mounting plate and now they don't slide _anywhere!_ If you want to move or reposition them, you _literally_ have to pick them up and then put them back down in the new location! 3) If you have a nice hardwood floor, you're on your own I guess... 🙂

      @@g-locmediaI have the Crosswind, absolutely love these pedals, and added the optional damper. Beautifully fitted into the design and works very well to improve the feel to be more realistic against cammed springs alone, and very tunable for feel. Definitely worth the small added expense and well made. Also just swapped in the new optional "combat" pedals from the big stock ones (Messerschmidt?) and find them better for me. Love MFG products, also have his extension tube for the Warthog joystick for longer throw, more precision and reduced effort. Just bought a pair of MFG Cross winds with the optional damper - as a real life private pilot, it’s the closest feeling I’ve had to using real pedals. This is especially true when flying as the force to move the pedals require quite a bit of force to get the full range - but will smoothly return to center instead of snapping back to center like other spring peddles which causes instability with fine rudder inputs. The silky movements are second to none and you won’t find a better set of pedals at its price point.

      @@g-locmedia I have the thrustmaster pendular ruder pedals and they are of good quality and work well. But they have the same issue as every other set of rudder pedals I have used which is that they just don't represent what a real plane is like. For the exact same price I have found that the redbird flight pedals are actually a lot better. Better build quality and they are designed for FAA certified simulators. And they are the exact same price.
      Now if you want to go more for the budget set. By far the best bang for your buck is the vkb rudder pedals. They do not have toe breaks, but to be honest I didn't really miss them that much. I did think it would be an issue, but it wasn't as big as I would have throught. Though that being said, I would consider that to be the budget option for those looking for a good set. The logitec and the cheaper thrustmaster pedals are just not good at all. Especially when considering the price of the VKB. But obviously the redbird pedals and the brunner are the 2 kings when it comes to the best of the best.

    Well so far I have only seen one video just a couple days ago that tops your Flight SIM Rig and hardware. The guy has a home Rig that simulates a Boeing 737 airliner. At first I thought it was a real cockpit or something that Boeing would have to train their pilots, had numerous switches above him, and all over - it looked like an Airliner.
    Your flight SIM Rig is also awesome what you have put into the hardware and actual layout of what a cockpit should look like. It is amazing how far you guys can go to make a 50 dollar Flight SIM game and turn it into a living, breathing, flight experience.

Honeycomb Yone will mount too but can also be under-mounted using the two of the top screws/bolts. If you are having the Honeycomb And Bravo throttle side by side they won't fit. They will mount but the bravo throttle quadrant can only get one mounting point attached to the plate. The solution for this and it's what I did was to get 20mm MDF. Cut it to the shape I needed and Is about 120cm wide. I screwed this onto the deck of the Flight Stand Pro and then hard-mounted all of my electronics from there. On a side note: The bravo throttle quadrant feels way more solid when hard-mounted rather than using the included clamp. Hope that helps.

    For the audio, try using an open back headphone with a mod mic attachment. The open back headphone will let sound through while still hearing the ATC from the headset. This is how I run my audio and it's amazing

      Phillips SHP 9500 are some of the most comfortable ones I've ever used and they don't break the bank. They are my daily driver for work and play...however they are wired. They work well with the modmic and trackIR (delanclip with a sunglass car visor holder)

    I honestly think that the best immersion is in VR...I'm building a 6DOF from motionXP for the moment. This with my crystal will truly bring me as close you can get to the real thing.😉 small tip..get those rubber screen connectors that get rid of the screen bezels.

      I love VR but have to disagree with that. I can see any of my physical controls or buttons and using the mouse is a real killer. The resolution has come a long way but it’s still nowhere nearly the clarity you get from a display. For me the only way I’d co aider VR would be for DCS or IL2 as here it’s seems to make the most sense until they have mastered pass through or finger and hand tracking. VR is definitely the furore though

      @g-locmedia actually there is no longer a visual difference. (Cristal) and there is a app out there that let's you see your gear in AR . Works like a charm you look down and you can see your devices and hands. But expensive for now..

    In other videos, you had your gauges on a separate panel above the yoke. Do you have a video detailing that setup? Thanks!

    Thrustmaster TPR for the pedals definitely. It feels like real rudder pedals (stepping instead of those sliding up and down pedals) and it doesnt slide on the floor when u are using the pedals (heavy enough with rubber grips at the bottom).

    Awesome setup. Im running a somewhat similar set up. Pc is all custom built by me. 7800x3d with a msi suprim X 4080. 32 gigs ram. Running the NLR flight sim chair. With winwing hotas orion 2 and the MFG crosswind pedals. Currently running a LG C2 OLED evo 42" but will be going to a single 55" LG OLED C3 soon. I wish i had room for tripple monitors. Very immersive!!

      @@g-locmedia yep it's definitely never ending I think for at least the next several months I'm pretty happy with my setup I may only upgrade my monitor closer to the end of the summer maybe I'll wait I don't know it's pretty amazing right now and I've got it to where it's my dream setup but with PC stuff you're always upgrading and there's always new games that come out that you want and so I know within the year I'll be upgrading again but that's part of the fun.

    You sold me on the Hisense televisions. Did you mention in this vid or a previous one what mounting system you were using for the 3 TVs? Looks like many of the known brands top out at ~50 inches short of Monstertech.

    • @g-locmedia
      @g-locmedia  8 місяців тому +2

      So I’m using two standard floor mounted TV stands for the side monitors. Then I have a tv wall bracket fixing up the middle one. Fairly cheap way to do it.

      I went with the LG C2/3 can’t remember single display thinking about upgrading to 2 more but don’t know if my 3080 video card can handle it. I have the Pimax crystal but it makes me motion sick
