During the Norman fight, you should give your Dustox or any other protect user a leppa berry. That way, you get 20 uses of protect, which is definitely enough to stall his Slaking. Anorith can do this with rock smash. I know this video is kind of old now, but it would be cool to see you do Emerald again with more knowledge.
Something to note, when accidentally crit that Tentacool to death in Dewford Town you still had 3 more opportunities before Slateport! If you walk all the way east in Dewford you can fish in Route 107, you can also stop in at Route 105 on your way back to get the exp. share and fish there, and finally when you get off the boat on the beach south of Slateport that is Route 109 and you can fish there. So thats 5 total routes you can fish on to get Magikarp/Tentacool basically as soon as you get the old rod :)
I've found it helpful to delay my New Mauville encounter until after catching the Aqua Hideout electrode to guarantee magneton, especially if I already have an electric type like manectric or even plusle or minun for Winona.
I've been saying all this for years. Electrode, Magnemite with 50% chance for Magnet Pull for a 55% chance at Skarmory. Ultimately, this process leads to approximately a 26% chance for Skarmory. However, I have historically found Skarm to be less than useful after Aqua Hideout. So instead, I've been repel manipulating my Whismur encounter to be level 16 for an approximate 14% chance for Skarm, since Skarmory can only be found at level 16, unlike Spinda and Slugma. The odds are worse, but Skarmory is so much more useful during mid-game.
This is what I did in my latest run as well. Plus, you can use the master ball you just got on the electrode so it doesn't explode and kill your Pokémon/lose the encounter.
7:39 for some reason the Emerald AI will only use moves like Rock Tomb if you're faster than them. Once you're slower they won't use rock tomb anymore.
Currently going through an emerald nuzlocke and may I just say, grumpig might be the most underrated mon in this game. Being immune to luvdisc’s confusion and setting up to +6 SpAtk with Calm Mind let her OHKO every member of Juan’s team ✨ Also learns psychic quite early
AI in Emerald likes to send out the pokemon with a super effective move on your pokemon, but is also weak to its typing. I have no idea why, but that is why Gyarados comes out on electric types for Wallace.
25:09 you get 3 chances for those encounters in that area. 1. Dewford Town water, route 106 water and route 107 water. So you might have been able to get Tentacool in your 1st run (when you accidentally killed the one on route 106, could get another chance on route 107).
This is true but I do not allow rerolls on pokemon that I have killed in my ruleset, so that's why that happened. I probably should have mentioned that at the time.
Outstanding GrumpyG! I love watching your series! This sure was one of the best Emerald series I've ever watched so far! Your voice sounds pretty cool too, what makes hearing you speaking through the challenge delightful! You really managed well the Pokemon emerald challenges! Nicely done! Btw yesterday at night just the UA-cam suggested me your challenge in Emerald, can you believe it? I don't know why it didn't before. Anyway now I gladly watched it. Thank you bro! I wish more and more success to you! See ya 👍🏻
Thank you for so much great information. Just a note for anyone running emerald, don't lose your Walrein to the Banette that has thunderbolt. Thought it was the Banette that didn't have thunderbolt, didn't check the level. Had only Gyarados left heading into the champion. Sad. Godspeed fellow runners.
Thanks for making this I enjoyed watching it. I am on attempt 6 of my nuzlocke right now. 3 have wiped in the elite 4 all on glacia, while I have lost 2 to Juan. Thanks for going over the items that I have missed.
Also follow up tip xatu and lunatone cant hit dark types so if they are the last two left just switching to dark types and stalling/slowly killing them works which is good with mightyena and sharpedo
Excellent video! I loved watching it while I’m playing my own Emerald Nuzlocke. One seriously important question though: Why didn’t you nickname your Pokémon? It’s one of the most important rules, because the trauma becomes so much more real 😂
I've been watching a lot of your videos and got me excited to try Nuzlocking again. I tried once years ago and got destroyed by Wattson. But one thing I was wondering, when you level your Pokemon I've seen you do a lot of manual leveling getting EV's as you do. A lot of other Nuzlockers just hack in a bunch of Rare Candies to avoid the grind. Do you always EV train as you level?
I don't always EV train, at least not every single Pokemon that I use, it usually just depends on the run. Im also always thinking about swallowing the rare candy pill one of these days. I know nobody would care, it's more of a personal thing for me. Some grinding is good in my opinion, it makes the world and the story/journey feel more alive and meaningful for me. There's nothing wrong with using rare candies either, it just makes the playthrough feel more like.. just a game I guess, rather than an adventure. I think I'll end up using them at some point just for the Pokemon league mostly I think.
What a journey! Edit: in terms of challenges, considering that Johto might be a difficult nuzlocke region to complete (aka win against Red), you can try the hgss for hardcore nuzlock and if you still find it easy, try it with only Johto pokemon :) Thank you for your effort mate!
I know it would have been a massive pain in the ass, but evolving Magikarp to Gyarados for Rival 2 would have been massive. edit: Oh, you said it 2 minutes later.
The beggining of emerald riding in the back of a moving truck, my childhood in a nutshell lol if youve bever riden in the back of a uhaul have you even lived?
im grinding using swellow breloom & vigoroth combo since i acquired them and it ended up successfully. i just left grovyl because i got him very bad nature tho.
You can buy more from the Mauville City Game Corner! It's 4000 coins to buy Ice Beam, Flamethrower, Thunderbolt, etc. Which is 80,000 pokedollars to buy the coins. It's amazing!
I like to go to route 122 to catch wingull then route 123 to catch shuppet then the mt pyre encounter is forced duskull if your looking for ghosts types all of this is almost forced as long as you get all the early encounters
I am very late but if you allow trade evolutions machamp will absolutely destroy the normal gym (mine one shot everything except the slaking who got 2 shot even with a low roll)
I play pokemon emerald nuzlocke today Sadly I almost to defeat menetric the last pokemon in 3rd gym leader and my grovyle is defeated by manetric but luckily I have gloom who defeat manetric and I win I receive the 3rd gym badge. Still I feel sad and disappoint after my grovyle fainted I thought grovyle would make it.
not gonna lie, leveling your mons to the champions max level is kinda cringe no wonder this was so easy for you your 6 level higher then the first memebers ace lol
Should have just used rare candies to level pokemon to the next trainers ace every time, or else you just completely trivialize the hardest part or the entire nuzlocke
@@Gormungandr nothing wrong with using rare candies to grind up hardcore underleveled Pokémon. I allow myself to hacck rare candies in emerald once I get the xp share because at that point grinding is free and literally risk free. Take a lvl 20 Pokémon and go kill lvl 5s for 12 hours straight while your level 7 Pokémon holds the xp share or just rare candy it. I also don’t rare candy until I’ve fought every trainer up until I’m ready for the next gym. Nothing wrong with that and an incredible amount of people would disagree with you
Pokemon emerald is no longer a game to me. It's a lifestyle. It's a fact of being.
I wish they would remake it on switch! And add mode immersive components / AR would be incredible but they need to make it seamless
why does this comment have so little likes 😭😭😭

Very helpful!
You can go an extra step and delay the spinda/magcargo/skarmory route to use magnet pull to try to get skarmory.
I've been saying all this for years. Electrode, Magnemite with 50% chance for Magnet Pull for a 55% chance at Skarmory. Ultimately, this process leads to approximately a 26% chance for Skarmory. Yeah those Banette's are sneaky
Never knew I needed Ray Romano pokemon content, thank you 🙏🏼
I got you!
53:53 it became a tourist attraction
You can actually get a 2nd try for Tentacool by going east of Dewford to route 107.
Thanks for making this I enjoyed watching it. I am on attempt 6 of my nuzlocke right now. 3 have wiped in the elite 4 all on glacia, while I have lost 2 to Juan. Thanks for going over the items that I have missed.
That battle against Tate and Liza was a turkey shoot. It defies explanation.
Looked up this vid because my team got wiped by manectric (blind run never beat emerald before) glad to see I'm not the only one lol.
Amazing video, the information and entertainment for 2 entire hours is insane
Glad you enjoyed it!

Never did it in the past so I didn't think about it at the time haha. I'm actually going to start doing nicknames in the next series I do!
@@grumpygengar22 I’ll be looking forward to it!

It came as a surprise to me that The May fights were optional, but they're were made to mandatory in ORAS

Loved the video thanks for the information i am very nervous for my run
Hell yeah
Tonight, movie night!
Don't mind me, none of my encounters learn protect so I'm going into Norman's gym with a Sandslash that knows Dig 😅
is there any chance of making a fire red hardcore nuzlocke? love the videos, keep 'em coming!

Great tips!
Can someone summarise what all pickups we can get at what places and what are the major ones.
Great educational video!
My biggest mistake is mainly not playing around crits.
Happens to all of us!

This was great to listen and watch! But bro says Nom-el instead of Numel.
im so lost stuck around verdanturf
3:50 ralts isn't great for the second gym??? Ralts can take down machop and makuhita without issue.
Haven't tried with Kirlia yet, it just seems so frail, but I could be wrong

There is no physical/special split in Gen 3
If you haven't tried it yet, play Emerald Cross. It has an auto nuzlocke mode. Plus other cool features. ❤
Cool, I'll have to try it out someday
How to download?
Should be able to Google it real quick
jus use rare candies bro. grinding is cringe 🤮 lmfaooo🤣
One day
not gonna lie, leveling your mons to the champions max level is kinda cringe no wonder this was so easy for you your 6 level higher then the first memebers ace lol
Yeah depending on the type of run you're doing it can be pretty easy if you're not restricting yourself further.
Should have just used rare candies to level pokemon to the next trainers ace every time, or else you just completely trivialize the hardest part or the entire nuzlocke
Just use rare candy cheat if your on emulator brotha
Thinking about it
Using cheats undermines a core aspect of what makes a nuzloche a nuzloche.
