Great video! I once saw an article about a very early mid-engined cycle car with a German name. It had what looked like a wing mounted high up, it had not bodywork but apparently raced at hill climbs and and so-on. I can't remember it's name so can't look it up. Do you know what it could have been?
Thank you for your coverage of Edmund Rumpler. You included quite a few photos that I had not seen before. I think his work is greatly underappreciated. Because he was Jewish, the Nazis, in an effort to suppress his renown, destroyed his technical and personal papers upon his death. I would like to learn more about his work, so if there is a particularly good source that you used for your piece, could you share it here? Thanks for the good work!
Very interesting to say the least, if it wasn't for the internet I'd have missed out on this. Living in an Anglo Saxon world a lot of European technology and achievements are overlooked.
Almost every article and video about mid engine race car says that Cooper built the first mid engine race car. But Auto union type C was built before WWII.
Yes, you can say that. And it was a long way for Audi with multiple attempts over the years before they actually produced the R8. Maybe potential for another video...
Actually they all worked at Deutz in Cologne: Otto, Bugatti, Daimler, Maybach. Later Porsche worked for Austro Daimler and Daimler before he started his own business. August Horch (Horch and Audi) worked at Benz before he founded his companies...
@@BSport320 okay...I knew they all kinda sprouted from the same group. I'm a huge Porsche fan but it's been awhile since I dove into it's early beginnings.

Nowadays everyone is so obsessed with the latest cars, thank you for catering to historic car enthusiasts. Love the quality of your content!

It looks like your explaining Tatra suspension and aerodynamics..

Very interesting. So the R8 was basically audi returning to the roots of their design

Seems all the current German car manufacturers began from the Daimler Benz entity..
Did Ferdinand Porsche?

Modern AUDI's still use the engine-clutch-differential-gearbox arrangement?
They do, but since 2007 the clutch is behind the front axle, which reduces the front overhang by more than 100mm.
Don’t forget the Cisitalia
🔥
How can you talk about mid-engined cars without even mentioning the Muira?
Well, this video is about the beginnings. The Miura came 40 years later.

The very first car was mid engined
Very true, but these first cars were converted horse carriages in a way. I focus this video on cars that were designed to be cars.
