  • We finally get to let loose in the high-performance new electric Ioniq 5 N, the most powerful and most expensive model ever released by Hyundai, in Aussie spec on Australian roads.
    Editor Tom Baker takes a deep dive into the over-boosted 478kW and 770Nm-capable hyper-electric to assess the fruits of years of Hyundai polishing and finessing the powertrain, chassis and character.
    We also look at the novel ‘artificial dual-clutch’ and fake engine soundtrack to see whether they’re true enhancements or mere gimmicks.
    Our first drive of the $111,000 wunderkind on local roads is ahead of the full Australian launch where we get to uncork the Ioniq 5 N’s fullest glory on the racetrack.

    As a very long time Hyundai fan boy (from the 90s), this almost puts tears to my eyes. How far as Hyundai come is amazing. And now the fact that they created something like this, a truly innovative product in a relatively new sector is breath-taking. Years ago, any hyundai review video would be mostly filled with "It's still a hyundai" or "I would never buy that POS", but nowadays, there is a clear shift in brand perception. Kudos to Tom for bringing this honest review to us!

    With near-stock version of Ioniq5 N, it recorded 7m45s at Nurburgring and proved by German press, not by Hyundai themselves. (consider they changed only tire for track)
    The car wasn't tuned or light weighted for specific test at all.
    Porche or Tesla never did it... Though Porche or Tesla has better record on Nurburgring, it's tested by the manufacturer themselves. I don't believe the car they tested was stock version because they refused to provide stock car for test by others... it's lack of its authority.
    And even after the test, the car endured two more laps by the tester. It's insane. 😨

      That would be a good time for a hot hatch, but this thing is so much faster in straight lines, which is where it's making up its time.
      So the fact that it's not obliterating the fastest hatches proves its cornering sucks.

      Stop the propoganda Porsche thrashed the Korean hatch. Also did you say the Hyundai used non production tyres? Non production tyres means the car isn't production spec and ineligible for production records. The Porsche was production spec. The press will get to drive the Porsche when the tri motor version makes it's public debut.

      @@almac9203 Bruh, that's not the proper answer to my words, at least Prosche should have provided their stock cars for testers but they refused and it's so obvious.
      Tesla, whatever model Y or Plaid X, we all know well their break boils even whithin several full breakings because their stock car is so heavy and their cars have relatively vulnerable break system but they have Nurburgring record of 7m 20s... is that possible?
      Porsche at least must provide their cars for some authorized test drivers and it can prove their genuinity it's so simple.
      In EV era, Porsche looks like a dork as I see....😨😨😨😨
      And you can say like this 'But this is still Hyundai and Prosche is still Porsche.' But Where does the Porsche's value come from? Their drving dynamics. Porsche is not Mercedes.

    • @almac9203
      @almac9203 5 місяців тому

      @@billyjean2905 car journalists can play around with the production cars after the cars make their official reveal. You are the only person that expects manufacturers to interrupt their record attempts to let journalists have a drive. No one does that. Journalists can drive the cars after the official reveal. No one but you writes this nonsense. Porsche behaves no different than Mercedes or Audi or BMW. Porsche has been setting records for ages and I don't recall any controversy with any of their records. Many independent testers test Porsche's and there has never been any controversy. You come across as a Hyundai fanboy. I am not sure what you are even claiming. Are you saying that the Hyundai lap time was achieved by the German press? You also say they only changed the tyres. Does that mean that they weren't using production spec tyres because that means it is ineligible for any production records. Where can I read more about the Hyundai lap time and testing by journalists?

  • @billyjean2905
    @billyjean2905 5 місяців тому +67

    I gotta say, Porshe, Tesla must provide stock cars for test drivers to prove its genuinity and authority, to test on the track. Can’t believe the lies people are spreading about $50k cost of Ioniq 5 battery replacement charged by an unscrupulous Hyundai dealer. First of all, the battery costs $30k USD. I looked it up. The Ioniq customer who damaged his battery didn’t just scrape the cover. He damaged the internal battery cooling system, so it couldn’t be fixed. And he caused the damage so it’s not covered by 100k mile warranty. Before Hyundai corporate could get involved, the greedy Hyundai dealer upcharged the true cost and the incompetent insurance adjuster claimed the car was a total loss, when the rest of the car was fine. Hyundai is working with the customer to fix the issue last I heard. $30k cost is in line with other EV manufacturers. Tesla is cheaper because it makes its own batteries. With time, battery prices will come down. Stop spreading misinformation.

    It has been a year since Hyundai released the Ioniq 6 in Australia. In that time they have released ONE update via their OTA (over the air) update mechanism - they refuse to stay what was actually added or fixed when they are contacted on multiple occasions via their Customer Service or Bluelink team - this can only mean that nothing of note was changed. At the same time, UK and US customers have received OTA updates consistently nearly every month adding MANY MANY new features and fixes. They even fixed the broken EV Route Planning functionality, while for Australian customers this continues to be broken. Their new Kona 2024 has EV Route Planning in a working state. The Ioniq 6 is the Hyundai “flag ship” car. Hyundai Australia are f**ked. Think long before you buy their EV cars. They may be in the EV space now, however they very much behave like an old school ICE company - at least in Australia. As a reviewer, you should call them out on this disgusting post sales service.

      Only based on reviews I have seen. But this goes to the bigger question of carmakers and car brands. Take for example a car brand such as Alfa Romeo. There is a certain image/driving experience which the brand exudes which is tied into the old petrol combustion engine. When electric is adopted in more brands I suspect they will all sound the same. I mean an electric engine is an electric engine whether its Kia or Porsche. So an element that distinguished the driving experience from one brand to another is lost. @@JohnLee-db9zt

I do get that the 5 N has extra bulk with an indicator stalk, dash, HUD, sunshade and the fact it's held together with welds instead of cable ties.
