Does anyone else find that the flesh coloured bumps become worse when you moisturise?
My dermatologist was so uncaring and dismissive when I got emotional at his clinic last week. He just shrugged his shoulders and said it’s KP there is nothing you can do. That cost $270
    What an asshole.
I have scarring all over my legs and arms because of KP.

If this helps anyone, I successfully addressed the KP on my upper arms in my mid 20s with the below steps every single day:
1 - shower in lukewarm water only, even in winter. Dry skin exacerbates KP = hot water dries the skin = avoid hot water. I also kept my showers as short as possible as I was paranoid about water stripping away the natural oils from my skin.
2 - use a natural loofah with QV body wash (the loofah should feel soft once wet, not hard or rough) - rub very lightly (think about how you exfoliate your face, its no different for your body imo) for a maximum of 10 seconds on affected area in circular motions to remove top layer of dead skin. Remember to sterilise your loofah regularly, leave it near an open window and/or exposed to sunlight to dry out daily and completely replace it every 3-5 months at a minimum.
3 - immediately out of the shower - lightly pat dry the affected area (it should still be slightly moist to the touch after towelling) and apply a 'treatment'. At the time, I used Neostrata Ultra Smoothing lotion.
4 - 5 to 10 minutes after treatment as been absorbed, apply QV moisturising cream.
Results: Saw improvement at 2-4 months. KP cleared after about 6-8 months. Admittedly, I got lazy after 2 years and switched to the regime below which I still use now (I'm currently mid 30s and the KP that has returned is very mild):
Maintain step 1 and 2 as described above.
3 - apply body oil in the last 30 seconds of the shower before exiting. Keep a spray bottle (use one of those travel sized pumps so it takes less room) filled with a neutral oil in the shower (I use Neutrogena Body Oil). On each body part, apply one spritz of the oil and rub it all over, letting it rinse off slightly before exiting. You could potentially use coconut oil in the shower as an alternative however in winter it hardens up so its a pain to scoop out. Also, I find the coconut oil can make the shower floor feel a bit greasy compared to the current method.
No additional steps after I finish showering. Hope this helps someone.

I've had kp my whole life. I remember being a child, and always concerned of my upper arms showing in fear of other people seeing my arms up close. And would ALWAYS wear long sleeve shirts or sweaters (even during the summer months 😪). I never knew what these bumps were! And even doctors couldnt tell my family what I had and a majority of the time I would be misdiagnosed and would have to take supplements that wouldn't help my arms and face at all. So I grew up thinking that I would never be able to get rid of it, even the slightest bit. I had my last son this year, February. And while I was pregnant, I developed it on my chest all the way to my neck. I've always had it on my cheeks, chin, neck, and arms. And somewhat upper legs. But I feel my kp has gotten worse since becoming an adult. I even get it on my eyebrows and my peach fuzz on my upper lip. Now, all 3 of my children have it. And I am finally going to do something about it, not only for myself but for my kids. I dont want them to feel how I always my entire childhood. UA-cam and google have made a tremendous difference as it is with getting general info. And I thank you so much for making this video.

I’m 19 and have been suffering with KP for 4+ years but was only diagnosed under 2 years ago. I have it badly on my chest and shoulders and my doctor described it as the worst case he has ever seen. It is painful, mine have formed as scabs and I have awful scarring. It came out of nowhere and I have no family history so I feel like the unlucky one. It has greatly impacted my self esteem, on holiday I put makeup over my chest because I felt embarrassed to be in a bikini. It regularly clears up and then just as it’s under control flares back 10x worse. I’ve always had a skincare routine regarding my KP but after watching this video I am going to try a new routine as it is only my KP that impacts my confidence. Thanks as always Dr Dray!

I just found this video. It is as a godsend as I was just stressing over how to control the KP on my jawline. I can't thank you enough for such an informative and compassionate video on KP. I have suffered from this disease since I was a child. Years of wearing long sleeved tops and slacks for fear of someone noticing or worse touching me. It can take over your life. I am so glad it is part of the conversation now bc for years even dermatologists I visited just shrugged their shoulders and changed the subject. I will definitely look into the face washes and creams. I have found a terrific product for the KP on my arms and thighs, Bioderma Atoderm PP Baum. It's a miracle cream and is the first moisturizer I have tried, and I have tried countless ones, that really works. I am in my 60s now so perhaps as you said it will soon improve. Finally, something to feel blessed about for aging...lol. Thank you again Dr. Dray for truly caring about both the physical and mental health of your fans.

I have had KP since my teens and was often embarrassed by it. Throughout years of seeing many different derm docs for various things like mole checks or removal of small pre-cancerous growths not one derm did anything more than shrug off my mention of the rough bumps on the back of my arms and all over my thighs. I learned to live with it and never went sleeveless or wore shorts. On my own I discovered AmLactin, at age 50, and have been free of the condition ever since. It only comes back if I skip a few days of moisturizing with AmLactin. BTW, I buy it at Costco in a large 20 oz bottle for around $17 or $18. It has been a miracle for me for the past 10 years. Thank you for your video...I hope it will help many other people!

4 years ago I went to a private dermatologist paid by my insurance and could never officially tell me the condition of my skin until I searched up through various sources.Yup- It's called Keratosis Pilaris. What is wrong with these kiddos graduating from medical school and not being able to come to terms.
Keratosis pilaris brings insecurity to my body. upper lower arms and butt cheeks.

I just got the results of my leg biopsy and it confirmed KP. The ONLY advice I got was to moisturize. I complained about the similar issues on the rest of my body including my face which fell on deaf ears. Ty for putting the pieces of this puzzle together, and thanks for all your advice for various treatments. Every time I go into a doctors I find myself extremely disappointed. Dr's like you really make huge difference in the lives of neglected patents.

I do what I want to do when I want to do it. People just got used to seeing me the way I am. Or, I'd get asked if why I have freckles all over my body. It's mind over matter. Don't let it destroy your life, it's just something apart of you you'll have to love.

Thank you for the information!! I have had KP since I was a baby. I finally went to the dermatologist when I was in high school because I was so self conscious about it. Classmates would ask me ‘what’s wrong with your arms!?’ or say I had chicken skin all of the time.
The Dermatologist told me there was nothing you can do to help or get rid of it because it is genetic. She gave me some lotion that was very expensive and it did not work for me. Maybe after 5+ years later I can do something to help it, especially for my wedding in October.

Pretty sure I have this on my face as I have it on my legs after shaving and find during Winter (now for me) my face flares but isn’t so bad during the warmer months. It’s currently going a bit crazy with a flare up. I was beginning to think I had Rosacea because of the PIE or red base they’ve caused only localised on my cheeks. My Doctor prescribed me a Hydrocortisone cream for this and it really helps with smoothing my face texture and any itchiness. Although I am careful not to over do it but it’s the only thing that breaks down those stubborn bumps when it gets so bad. Thank you for all the information, I follow all your skincare regimen tips daily but really thinking of buying a humidifier for my bedroom. I’ve also noticed that if I take biotin supplements (that hair/skin/nails stuff) it makes my KP worse (I think because it increases keratinization apparently) so I have to be extra vigilant about treating it every day!

My whole life I’ve been teased for it. “Do you got sunburn?!” “You need lotion, alligator.” I wore hoodies and long pants year round no matter what temperature it was, and I live in the south. I had no clue why I had these bumps. My dad, my mom, and siblings had it too. We called it chicken skin, or “Ryan” bumps. Thankfully as an adult I know what this condition is. I aggressively started to treat it last year, and now my skin is looking better and I feel better about my skin. Thanks to your product video previously i found Amlactin. I use it daily. Hi Dr. Dray! Wow! I'm so glad I found you, I can't believe how in depth you go into... I've had KP since I was 11 years old, I'm in my 30's now. I have KP in my upper arms, but I also have acne prone, sensitive, and oily skin on my face. It's crazy. I was diagnosed with hormonal acne 5 years ago and it's been a roller coaster since then. I've been on spironolactone for a while, but my dose was increased to 100mg 2 months ago; I'm starting to see a difference. I haven't been getting the cystic type of acne I would normally get around my chin, cheeks, or jawline. I was using the regular Cetaphil soap for my body, thayers witch hazel toner, and Vanicream on my KP. Not sure if I should change my routine. I have used Amlactin in the past, but I don't think it worked for me. My doctor mentioned that I may seem to be developing eczema. I guess that explains some dry, patch red, itchy areas I get through out my body sometimes. Is eczema due to weather changes too? Allergens? Just curious. My skin care regimen (my face) is simple, I'm going to follow up with my Dermatologist in 3 months. I know you mentioned salicylic acid for KP, I unfortunately have never been able to use this. My skin tends to have some sort of a reaction to it, but I do fine with benzoyl peroxide in a lower concentration. Thank you so much for your videos; I'm hooked. I've always had problematic skin.

I'm really noticing and feeling a great difference after two weeks of using Cerave's salisylic acid wash and cream! I use the wash every other day with exfoliating gloves and go over the areas very, very gently. This is essential. If you scrub too hard it will just flare up the skin. Use almost no pressure at all. I apply the cream immediately after showering. The cream I use daily. My arms are looking so much smoother and the redness has subsided. I love it!

I have it on my arms and something that helps me is using neutrogena body clear body scrub (not the wash one) with salicytic acid in it. I put it on my arms in the shower with a wash cloth for extra scrubbing. Then after the shower I use amlactin lotion. My dermatologist suggested this when I was a teenager and I haven't found much else that has worked to smooth my skin since then so it seems pretty good. If I stop using it the bumps come back so you have to be pretty consistent I only do it once a week and that's enough for me.

Thank you for the fast reply. Yes, I did... It is for sure a seborrheic keratosis! At the time of diagnose my dermatologist said that it does not require treatment. But because the plaque does get itchy, scaly and bumpy from time to time I thought treating it with a mild keratolytic could potentially help, but with these things it is probably better to play it safe and just leave it alone.

I have KP almost everywhere that hair grows, even on my eyebrows and upper lip, so I've developed a few tricks to improve the texture of my skin. 1) Try shaving the area. I have a warm shower and scrub my skin gently with an exfoliating glove, then shave in the opposite direction of the hairs. Use shaving cream and a very sharp razor, or else you might give the bumps razor burn and make it worse. Moisturize *after* doing this. My arms, which I don't shave, I simply exfoliate and moisturize after the shower. 2) Use Salycilic acid and/or glycolic acid cleanser. Helps a lot with removing the excess dead skin cells. There is no miracle product to remove KP completely, but using these acids over time aids in stopping the bumps from turning into scaly flakes. 3) To hide the appearance of the red bumps on large areas of pale skin, try tanning, self-tanning or spray tanning! The darker the tan the more the redness disappears.
