Dr. Dray' is quite opposite to majority of the bloggers society who promote expensive products from Sephora and ULTA and proudly declares how those products made them look 20 years younger. She is a unique, smart, witty, and quite direct. Thank you for taking your time, Doc, to educate us in an honest and intelligent way! Thank you for being you!

Tretinoin is a miracle. No prescription needed in Greece and it costs around 8-9 euros for 100 gr. They also prepare it up to 0.15%. That along with sunscreen is almost all you need for lustrous, baby skin. Don't believe the hype about miracle broths and 300 dollar creams. Thank you, dr Dray, excellent video!

Thanks so much for sharing your knowledge. I began using Retin A about 3 yrs ago, and am truly enjoying the effects. I got sucked into the anti-aging rabbit hole for a time, but have since been sticking with what truly works. Gentle but thorough cleansing, religious sunscreen use, and Retin A. It feels good knowing I'm doing the best I can.

I’ve used retin A .05% for almost 10 years now, along with sunscreen every day. I originally took it for acne, but now I also use it for its anti-aging abilities. I always get told my skin looks youthful, and NO ONE believes I’m 45. I always get told I look like late 20’s, early 30’s- and I get told my daughters look like my sisters. My oldest daughter is 21. Retin A WORKS! look at my profile pic....no editing, and no work done, ever :). Retin A and sunscreen rock! Oh, the secret to no skin peeling and flaking from Retin A, is to not apply it until at least a 1/2 an hour after washing your face.

Hi Dr Dray. Firstly, thank you so much for your fun and informative videos, I really enjoy them. I love the way you push home the importance of sunscreen, something that I didn't take seriously enough before but now do and am educating my 15 year old daughter regarding that too. She also enjoys your acne advice videos as that is her skin concern at the moment. I am approaching 50 next year and and decided a few months ago that it was a good time to take control of and re think my skincare routine and found you on UA-cam as a result of researching retinoids. I started on Tretinoin 2 months ago (0.025% month 1 and 0.05% month 2) and was able to build it up from every other night to every night within a few weeks with very little irritation. I adopted your suggested routine and wash my face in the morning using Cerave Hydrating Cleanser then apply Neutrogena Hydroboost Gel Cream to wet skin followed by Cerave Moisturising Lotion with sunscreen before any makeup. In the evening I cleanse my makeup and/or sunscreen with Clinique Cleansing Balm followed by washing with Cerave Hydrating Cleanser and applying Cerave Moisturising Cream. I then apply a pea size amount of the Tretinoin which seems to go on much better after the moisturiser. I do this every night and find I am lucky to be able to use it without letting my skin or moisturiser dry completely which is a bonus and fits in with the time I have available in the evening and means I'm more likely to keep up with the routine. I'm also able to use it on my neck without any irritation. Any small amount of peeling I have I tackle by gently cleansing with my Cerave Hydrating Cleanser on a wet muslin cloth in the shower and I also use a Tinkle razor once a week which seems to help too. These are the only products I use on my face and the parred down routine seems to work really well for me. I'm so glad that Cerave is now available in the UK from Boots and I get my Tretinoin from Dermatica via their online prescription service (similar to Curology in the US, £20 per month subscription). I'd also like to offer a suggestion for those on Tretinoin who use foundation, as I found I had to change mine and my Clinque foundation no longer seemed to work for me after starting my retinoid treatment. So I recently tried Maybelline Dream Satin Liquid Foundation with Hyaluronic Acid and I love it! It's perfect for my skin, goes on smoothly and evenly, great coverage, build-able and doesn't clog my pores. It also has SPF and is really inexpensive too, only £7.99 here in the UK! My only criticism is that it didn't come in very many shades in the Boots store that you can test to find the right shade (I think you can get a lot more shades online though), but for me the Sand is a perfect match to my skin anyway. I am finding though that as my skin condition is improving I am quite often happy to go out without any make up on my skin which is testimony to how well the new routine is working. Anyway, rather a long comment but I'm excited about my new skincare; after only 2 months my skin is already the best it has been for years so can't wait to see even more results in the coming months. Anyway, it's thanks to you so I wanted to share that! :-) x

Dr. Andrea, you rock!!! You sound exactly like my own dermatologist, and you are so appreciated because the 15 minuets in the doctors office is not always, shall we say, fully comprehended and retained information. This information you provide to us encourages us as we go through the effects of Tretinoin, which then results in the full benefit of Tretinoin. I know that Tretinoin works tremendously well because I have seen and experienced it firsthand Sunscreen and moisturizing is a must have! Thank you so very much for this video and for all you do and share with us!!!💕

On the advice of my US dermatologist, I have been purchasing retin-A in Mexico, where we have a small vacation home. It is an excellent product, available without a prescription from a pharmacy, and costs about $25 per tube. It is available in the whole range of strengths. Frankly I dont understand why it needs a prescription in the US, and certainly it is subject to a huge profit mark up here.

I used Retin A for almost 2 months, but I could not keep going- I too live in TX, and the sun exposure w Retin A was horrendous, no matter how much sunscreen I applied! My skin was ravaged! Plus I get my face waxed and my skin literally peeled off, plus even my sunglasses rubbed off my skin!!! So I’ve switched to Rose Hip oil. Oh geez, what a difference! It’s gentle and my skin feels great! I use it under my Cerave face cream after washing my face. Pores look better, fine lines diminished, no prescription needed. Oh, and it’s cheap!

Thank you, Dr. Drag for videos! I have changed my approach to skincare as a result of "taking your class". I have a question. I began using Tretinoin 0.05% a little over a month ago and per your recommendation, I moisturize prior to applying it (Cerve SA cleanse, Hada Labo HA gel, Cerave Moisturizing creme, Tretinoin). I dot a pea-size amount all over my face and spread it no problem. Recently, I began applying the Tretinoin immediately after cleansing, followed by my remaining regimen. Now, when I swipe the dots the product is immediately absorbed and I don't even get a chance to spread it. I have to use an additional 1/2 -1 pea to cover my entire face. What could account for the rapid absorption rate with my new method? Thank you for your time.

Dr.Dray, what are the long-term usage recommendations for Trentinoin? Once a daily routine at a maximum dosage has been established, is there such a thing as "maintainace" mode? In other words, can you cut back on the application frequency or strength and maintain the sun damage repair and cell "invigoration" achived after years of daily application? What are your thougts on "Treinoin Peel" (aka Dr. Lim of Lasers and Lifts) that intentionally trigger irritation and peeling? And lastly, does Trentinolin NEED to trigger peeling to show that it's working? So, if there is no more peeling is it time to increase the application frequency/dosage? Thanks for this series!! Ciao, L

Such great information - thank you so much! You mention that a lower percentage of tretinoin can be just as effective as a higher one. I found a study that is consistent with this, with the finding that there's no significant difference between the effects of a 0.025% tretinoin compared to 0.1%. I cannot find any information, however, about the efficacy of a 0.01% concentration. Are you able to comment? Thank you again.

Just a note - I have health insurance (Blue Cross/Blue Shield) through our public school system which is known here in Louisiana to be pretty awful BUT they cover Tretinoin gel (.01% and .025%) at 100% for hormonal acne. Once I paid my $100 deductible (which happens within the first week of January since prescriptions are so damn expensive), it was exactly $0 for every tube afterward. I wish I had every penny I ever spent on any other stupid retinol from Drunk Elephant, Sunday Riley, etc. because they did not do a damn thing and while it took me almost a year to get to using Tret every night with no side effects, I have yet to have a break out and my skin looks better than it ever has. It’s truly one amazing product. I don’t know if it’s related but I’ve yet to have an outbreak of eczema since I started it, either. 🤷🏼‍♀️

I am so confused, does granactive retinoid (from the ordinary) do the same job as retin-a?

    • @naomievlahogeorge7958
      @naomievlahogeorge7958 4 роки тому +6

No - prescriptive Tretinoin is up to 100 times stronger than any OTC retinol including this one. It doesn’t mean it’s not going to work - it will just take FAR longer to see any results.
From the Deciem site regarding Granactive Retinoid: “this product uses next-generation retinoid active technologies which have been shown to achieve better reduction in signs of aging than retinol without irritation. These technologies ***cannot be compared directly with retinol itself in terms of concentration because they include a different retinoid molecule, in a similar way that Retinol cannot be compared with Retinoic Acid in terms of concentration.***

Fabulous video! Thanks so much. Two questions (perhaps for a future video, since I know you get so many queries): 1) Do we have any robust data on whether the delivery system of the microgel/microsponge formulation is more efficacious than the emollient (cream) delivery mechanism? I know that there is reported and documented evidence that the microgel is less irritating than the gel or cream formulation, but since most of the long term studies (perhaps all?) have been done on the cream, I was wondering about those studies which have claimed that the microgel formulation allowed for the treitinoin to be more "stable" (even more photostable) and hence potentially more efficacious than other delivery mechanisms. 2) Just out of curiosity, is there a biological reason why there's a lot of concentrated peeling around the chin area? I have experienced this both personally but also have seen it reported a lot anecdotally among retinoid users. I was just wondering if there were a biological basis for why that skin area might be so prone to peeling.
Thanks again for your wonderful videos. We learn so much about skin and healthy living!

Thank you so much for this video. I am a person that tends to jump at all the new cosmeceuticals. I saw my dermatologist in the spring for my annual screening and he prescribed me Tretinoin. I asked him about over the counter retinol and he said, with a smile, "please stop wasting your money" At the time I had been using over the counter retinoids and also differin and also every thing under the sun :) I used Vitamin C serum and a growth factor serum, essences, etc... Between my dermatologist and you, I realize that I am most likely throwing money away. When I simplified my routine, my skin started looking better.
Is there ever an indication to use Differin one night and Tretinoin the next in a regular rotation? That is what has been working for me but if I am spinning my wheels, whats the point? My main concerns are anti aging and congestion in my t-zone (I am 48) Thanks so much for educating all of us- it is a treat to watch your videos. Have a great weekend.

I’m loving the science of anti-aging. What brand of moisturizers would be good to mix with Retin A? I have the .1% and want to start using it at a lower strength for my face, neck and chest.
I use 12% glycolic acid in the morning. And Retinoids at night. The glycolic acid (at 12%) is amazing at speeding up healing. I have no signs of aging yet really. It’s all about prevention for me. I avoid the sun like I’m a vampire 🧛‍♀️ too. I’ve been using Retinol for 9 months and added differin to my nightly routine. I`m only 35 years old and began to form small fine line around my mouth (smile lines) and around my eyes. I have oily skin and i had suffered from severe vulgar acne in the past 3 years. I cleared up once i started using benzoyl peroxide in May exactly how my doctor told me NOT to use: all over my face. After 12 weeks of benzoyl peroxide i stopped using it and now i`m continuing with Paula`s choice 1% retinol treatment. I`m not breaking out, and my fine lines are gone. Even my pores and overall face looks better, healthier. I guess, maybe, retinol products work for less severe wrinkles. But they do! Maybe with age i`m going to switch to a prescription retinoid, but till the i`m sticking to this one!
