I tried your lime wash product once and it didn’t work like it was supposed to. It looked like a solid color all around, as if I just painted regular paint. I used your Portola primer, and tried 2-3 other primers and in the end it just looked like regular paint. No cloudy variation. Saved the day by switching to Roman clay and client loved it. Just wanted to know if I did something wrong or maybe a defective batch?
Hi Igor! Give us a call at (323) 655-2211, and we'd be happy to chat about it in more detail and give a thorough explanation. Can you tell me what Lime Wash color you used?
Hello Natalia! Please give our team a call at (323) 655-2211 or email us at info@portolapaints.com for more information. There are quite a few factors that effect price like square footage coverage needs, primers, etc. Prices are also available on our website - portolapaints.com/ - if you'd like to take a look around. Roman Clay is sold by the Kilo and Lime Wash is sold like a regular paint, by quart, gallon, 5 gallon.
If you are a renter, and need to return walls to their previous look (white, slightly popcorn walls) upon move-out, can you easily paint over the Roman Clay or Lime Wash? Seems like the Limewash specifically leaves a pretty grainy wall feel so maybe that option is not very renter-friendly? Is the Roman Clay more renter friendly? Can you talk about the paint removal processes?
Both finishes can easily be primed and painted over once it's time to move! The texture of Lime Wash is fairly minimal and is easily hidden by the coats of primer and paint that would be used to cover it.
Roman Clay has slightly more sheen, but is typically more durable and lifeftyle-proof. Roman Clay can also be cleaned and touched up easily. Lime Wash has more of a matte, slightly chalky finish and some colors can be more temperamental with touch ups.
@@network54sales You can roll on an Ultra Flat color match of the same Roman Clay color as the first coat, and just do one Roman Clay coat as the second.
Is Roman clay waterproof? Usable in a shower? As I’ve seen one couple use it, in their van’s shower. Also, ok to use in a van? Won’t crack or anything, when in motion?
Oh- DANG, just heard you get to the part where you said you can’t use it in the shower! I guess the van life folks didn’t read the fine print 🫣 … I wonder what would happen if you used it in the shower? I guess they’ll find out.
I remodeled my bathroom and used Roman Clay. I know how to use it and have used it several times. You absolutely NEED to seal it. At least with 3 coats. Any stray water splashes on the wall that doesn't have enough sealer or isn't sealed, will automatically stain. Hes being very generous about how practical it is in a wet environment.
You can with proper preparation and priming. Ensure that your primer is properly adhering to the wallpaper, and if it is, you can apply right over top as you would on primed drywall.
Roman Clay is a paint/plaster hybrid material that is similar to Venetian plaster but with a more matte, organic finish. Specific to us, we’ve been developing and producing Roman Clay in Los Angeles for over 20 years.
Nice! I'll have to try this
Such a great video, to the point and full of tips and info. Thanks!
To cover popcorn walls, my understanding is lime wash is better? Would either cover the popcorn completely. Thanks for your great video!

What colour were you using in this video for the Roman clay? Can you recommend a gray green colour?
Thanks
Can I use a protective coating on the Roman clay
Yes! The Roman Clay Topcoat is a protective sealer that provides additional durability.

Is the roman clay more matte than limewash? Which one would you suggest that’s more kid/lifestyle proof?
Roman Clay has slightly more sheen, but is typically more durable and lifeftyle-proof. Roman Clay can also be cleaned and touched up easily. Lime Wash has more of a matte, slightly chalky finish and some colors can be more temperamental with touch ups.
Can u do the whole room with light lime wash?
Absolutely! You can "color drench" a room in light or dark Lime Wash. It's becoming more and more popular to do so.
Is there a way to apply Roman Clay faster, if you don't want too much variation?
Like with a tinted primer?

Weird question, can you use it on top of wallpaper?

What are those boards you're sampling the paints on called?
These are 1/4 inch MDF boards that have been primed.
Sounds like Roman Clay is best for a kitchen hood?
Roman Clay is typically the more popular option due to its durability, though we have customers that swear on either finish for vent hoods.
