I hope Kelsey doesn't feel bashed by the negative comments about the blue! Picking a color can be really stressful and sometimes you just gotta try something to see what works and what doesn't. You both have an amazing sense of style and at the same time I'm impressed by the way you don't shy away from revisiting projects like this.
@@emilymulcahy this is straight up untrue. Their color schemes are so often on point. Also I will unironically defend the bathroom brown paint until the day I die
The arch doors would look cool in a white washed wood colour or black! I feel like the door is too warm with the cool tone of the walls! But I do like the texture and lime wash look! I think the grey tone works with the floors and kitchen as you said :)
Completely agree. The cream color just doesn’t fit with the industrial/modern look of the rest of the space. It’s retaining too much of a traditional look that just isn’t blending in with the overall style.
I'm going to start off by saying I was one of the few who actually liked the blue wall. I thought it was a bold, cheery choice for that entryway! I also love the lime wash. I've always loved that technique. My only issue now is that I LOVED the beige color the wall before that final coat! Now the doors look dingy and like they should be painted black to match the cool tone of the paint?⁷
I agree about the blue! I always get faked out when they start to hype a "crazy" color and it is just a new version of brown or beige 😁 I love watching their videos because they are inspiring, boss, diy babes but I know their style isn't for me. The blue wall was absolutely my vibe but not really their's.
The lime wash kind of looks like a cement wall now. I don’t think it’s a bad thing but maybe painting the doors and window framing black would make it all feel more cohesive. Design is a process for sure, love seeing all the different iterations over time
For sure- black or a pop of color! Loving the look of the wall but the brass door handles look odd / dated with the wall update. Maybe time to update them too!
I feel like the door could be a cool toned green or like a burnt sienna color, or even gold! It feels like the space isn't finished yet. It's difficult because it's a transitional space. Maybe some large curtains with tie backs can tie the spaces together by breaking them up enough with a different texture and weight
See since a lot liked the blue still I’m wondering if they should paint the door blue! Not the same blue in my opinion, the color wasn’t exactly my taste personally. But Benjamin Moore had a new dark blue, almost black, color for colors of 2022 and it would look amazing as a pop of color for the door frame.
I loved the blue, but I agree that it didn't really go with the rest of the space. I hope this doesn't dissuade you from taking risks in the future! Love the limewash in the end
To be honest, I like the first coat (the lighter version) much better. The final result looks like a concrete wall, which is great. But since you have such tall ceiling and tall white walls around, it seems like you have a concrete wall wrapped in a regular white walls. It looks a little weird.
I really like the limewash technique, and I really liked how the slightly beige look fit so well with the door, but the final wall color feels too cold and cement-like and doesn't really go well with the warm tone of the door. But I love that you try out new things!
Beige definitely looked better, blended in with the door so well. I think the problem with gray and blue previously was that door is warmer/yellower color, which makes door look completely separate from the wall. They don’t blend into each other nicely, but look like 2 different objects from different projects. Especially in a space with so many textures, styles, colors, tones, it’s important to tie everything together. Colors aren’t complimentary in my opinion. Beige was perfect with that interesting texture.
I think the windows and door would look good in a charcoal black (something similar to the cabinet next to the wall) as they still don't quite go with the cement gray (maybe the gray looks different in person). But it's better than the blue. It looked like a lot of work to redo this wall. Wow! Colour is so hard to pick out so don't be hard on yourselves. We've all been there repainting the same wall two or three times!!! LOL
Limewash is amazing! I wish you kept the “wash” colour as is and not add any more darkness and gray pigment to the finishing coat cause it matched the warmer tones of the door more, the grey is more cool toned and the door is not :((
Agree, but now that the choice has been made there’s a learning opportunity for everyone on talking about why the warm neutrals of the door (color and handles) aren’t working with the cool wall! Lots of ppl suggesting painting the door. I’m excited to see the next stage in the design problem solving process :)
I have to agree with some other comments. That the wall looked good right before the last coat and looks like concrete now. From the screenshot on the video I thought it was going be a lighter color and there was going be hand painted vines and flowers... I think that must have been the marbled effect from earlier. 😅
i would have liked it a lot more if you didnt change it so much with the final coat, but it still looks great! the blue wasn’t bad either. maybe that wall will just be your new version of the pegboard in the loft getting changed up every so often 🥴
I liked how Becky explained how limewash works. That was so cool! I'm a bit sad the final colour is grey and not beige. Personally I liked the test colour better. But grey is unobtrusive too.
There was nothing wrong with the color, but some people just don’t like blue. It’s almost a Caribbean blue. I didn’t hate it. I’m so sick of neutrals they’re nothing new it’s the paint color cycle. Excited to see what you’re going to do.
I agree with the sea of beige everyone is doing. What is going on?? It's like 1970's office cubicle colors all over and I hate it. Beige is great in moderation but right now everyone is wearing it and decorating with it so it looks like some vintage movie about what a future space ship should look like. or maybe the cave house Luke Skywalker grew up in??
I love the texture of the lime, I would have liked a smidge more beige (greige if you will, I remember that makeover haha) toned if it was up to me, but I still like it. I think painting the doors a more greige colour would really help. Plants and voile curtains would also look beautiful
The grey is ok I guess. I think beige would have looked better, and as others have pointed out there’s def something off about the color of the door with the grey. I would say make the wall more warm toned or paint the door (and maybe the bars on the window) black!
I loved the lime wash before that final gray patina was put in. Really through the beige looked great! And now it just looks like cement 🤷🏻♀️ idk maybe painting the doors and window trim a charcoal gray would help
I honestly loved both paint jobs…they both brought something different to the space! The blue really made it pop, but the grey really tied into the rest of the environment…also loved learning the science behind the lime wash! Great video 😊
I also really liked it. I didn't think the color took away from the doors at all, I actually thought it brought more attention to them and made them stand out....
I actually like the warmth of the door with the grey lime wash. I wouldn’t do black or stark white, I think it will be to much contrast and heavy in the space but this makes it look very airy even with the cement look of the paint
The lime wash is such a unique texture and technique. The result feels very old world, and it looks great with the doors and the other colours in the space! Well done! Thanks for the lesson, too. Very cool to learn how you achieved this look!
I actually loved that blue. I think the reason it didn't fully work was because the windows didn't have any trim. The door was so contrasting against that blue, that the windows got lost and fel like holes, and there was no transition between the bright wall and the muted tones from the other room. Becky, it was a good color!
I actually love the grey wall with the cream doors. I understand where people are coming from but with it seeming off but I think if you carried more of that cream color that way into the space it would make every more sense. Love it.
I love the look of the lime wash. The colour however was looking great but the grey addition changed it totally. Not much point in voting on colour when it’s not used.
I feel like the blue would have been so awesome if the rest of the space also had deep, jewel tone colors throughout it. But because the rest of the space is mostly neutrals, it didn’t match quite as well. I think this matches better. (Though I do prefer deeper colors throughout than neutrals, but that’s just me)
Hi ladies! I love everything you guys do! The "blue" was a bold piece statement from all the neutrals that you are working with at the studio. I worked at an office were the front door was yellow, the working bench was that type of blue and every time I came to the office feeling down; those colors made my day so much brighter.... I love bold and bright colors so I thought that that blue was perfect. But yes that lime color looks good, and the explanation even better... hopefully you guys dont shy away from trying more bold colors...
The blue was a great color, but just didn’t match the space… so then they went grey….. It’s just boring. It’s like they got scared of trying new colors and just gave up. I LOVE grey/black/white.. but I seriously think they should’ve tried a different bold statement color instead of just going safe again. Kind of disappointing but still looks good.
I would like to personally thank Kelsey and Becky for introducing Milanote to me lol. I use it to organize and plan my D&D campaigns primarily and the editor features let's my players have their own boards to add their character mood boards, thoughts, and session notes. I also use it in my day to day life just to function. I don't know what I would do without Milanote at this point.
It looks like a cemented wall due to the texture & color. For an industrial themed place, I think the new color works. My eccentric side actually likes the blue one (I am not complaining against the change, just a matter of preference). I like this video being educational ^_^
I just downloaded Milanote and I’m already obsessed!! I’m using it to organize my Christmas shopping list and it has completely subdued my anxiety of having different lists, screenshots on my phone and computer, random links in my notes app etc.
Is it just me or does the mix of frosted and clear glass bother anyone else? I think framing the windows and frosting would make it look a lot more cohesive. Love the new color though.
yea overall the mix of the different glass finishes, the arch vs square glass, and the warm yellow tone of the door/window frames makes it all look unfinished/uncohesive. i love that they're trying to hard tho.
been wanting to do limewash for ages indoors (I already do it on my chicken coops) but wasn't ready to figure it all out on my own. thank you for doing the work for us so we can renovate our living spaces in a non-toxic earth-friendly way!
I am absolutely in love with the lime wash, fits great to the space. Also, the idea that every color is unique and comes out differently through the process while also being more environmentally friendly is just great! Would totally try out myself in the future!
I'm blown away that so many people hated that color. I loved it :3 -- and I know you can't please everyone but that wall was so much more fun/vibrant/alive before. :(
I know there are a lot of people saying that the warm tones of the door doesn’t go with the cool tones of the lime wash but I really like the contrast of the two together and think it looks nice 😊
thank you for this video, I live in the UK and proud to live in a house that was first built in 1400s which gets a yellow lime wash every few years, This video was so interesting so thank you.
Honestly, I like both the blue and the gray, just in different ways. The blue looked really fun and quirky (and it's the same color as my kitchen cabinets), but the gray looks very lux and mature. Nice job on both!
14:36 I actually LOVED the way the wall looked when some of the paint was dry, and some of it wasn't - like marble, but not really. I love the final color as well, but it would have looked *amazing* if you could make that same effect but in a way that's permanent!!!
I do prefer this colour and the texture. The only thing is the edges of the wall, unrelated to the colour. Maybe quarter round as a border to help the edges look cleaner and the wall to look more integrated
Am I the only one seeing hints of the blue at the edge of the door still? I think they need to take the doors off and paint them a cooler color to match the wall better and when they do they can detail the door frame
Color is my jam. My living room is now a bold blue and I love it. Every room in my house is a different color or shade and flows nicely. I thought the blue on your wall was fun. Beiges and grays to me are so depressing, but it's your place and I'm happy you like it. Looked like a lot of work! Good job!
I totally agree that there's nothing wrong with the blue, it reminds me of Turkey and my Turkish ex for some reason tho, but yea some people just simply don't like blue but it doesn't make blue a bad color!~~~
The lime wash is a really neat technique. I agree with a lot of the commenters that the beige doors need to be painted black. I love the use of colour and really like when you two add colour to a space. 💖
My OG team! i love how you really took the time to explain the process. Its unfair to be bashed for the paint color considering how you made that wall and door partition. Keep then coming! Always excited to see your videos. 👍🏻
I really don’t think it was the blue that was the issue but it just looked unfinished, probably because how wide the makeshift windows were and it took away from the awesomeness of that door!
@@LarrietDarling If she had painted the door and the window trims, frame out the windows, I think it could have been a great pop of color and still fit in…just needed a little more to complete ☺️
I didn't hate the blue as much as some people did. I just thought it didn't go too much with the door colour. I'm loving this lime wash technique you did!! i tend to prefer cooler tones to warm tones so I definitely like the outcome 😊
I actually like the blue.. It's the POP statement of the space.. Like an accent wall or something... (but I guess you have your abstract mural wall for that inside the meeting room?) Maybe some think it doesn't belong in the space coz there's not much that relates to the color overall.. Anyway, to be honest, the limestone is giving me kind of cement vibes... Maybe because of the gray tone? I don't know.. Maybe you can make the door and the windows contrast with the gray? Just a suggestion... But you guys are the designers... So your call... 👍🏻👍🏻
Omg I love how concerned Kelsey sounded when Becky said she cried on the floor!! You could hear the love in her voice!! True Friendship goals right there!!! ❤️❤️
When you first did the blue I didn't like it but the more I saw it in videos the more I got used to it. I think this suits the style of the rest of the space better. It flows a lot better.
I REALLY like the visual texture of this. Like you, it's also just a titch bit too grey, particularly with the warmer/yellowy shade of white on the doors. The sort of putty colour of the original swatches was brilliant. I really appreciate you showing how to do this and breaking it all down for us, as I can really see doing limewash on a wall of mine.
I'm glad the end result leans more cool tone grey because I thought the warmer beige was clashing with the cream color of the door! Only change I think would make it pop even more is painting the window pane bits black like the wall in the studio space!
My stomach just dropped, I got the sickest feeling. That blue wall was my absolute favorite part of your studio. I was so happy when you painted an actual color, a beautiful color in there. I'm an artist and have been an art teacher for over 27 years and I am so tired, exhausted of neutrals. Beiges grays tans browns pale yellows. The world is full of such beautiful colors and it's like they've been killed. It breaks my heart it literally breaks my heart. My bedroom is the most beautiful purple you've ever seen, my bathroom is the most beautiful ocean blue, my kitchen is an aqua that just makes you feel alive. The rest of my house is white bright white all the trim is white all the crown molding everything. I live in a world of color. My art room is so full of color all my students over the years have just loved that room and feel so good in it because it's full of colors that turn on your imagination that makes your heart feel good not blah blah blah depressing neutrals. it's like shutting your brain off. Okay I'm venting. And someday this neutral palette will go away and people will have color again. But that wall made me happy and now it's still a beautiful door and beautiful windows but now it has sad color. I don't even think of neutrals is being color anymore they are the lack of color the absence of joy. When I moved into my house the entire house ceiling walls everything was a light tan. If it wasn't such an amazing house I would have shrieked and ran away. But I fixed it it's alive with color and life. Oh and all the carpet in my house is green. And to those of you who can't imagine it every single person who comes in my house absolutely loves it and wishes that they were brave enough to paint their house like mine and choose a beautiful Green carpet that goes with everything!
The limewash texture is great and it was cool to learn how to DIY it. Thank you! I think the door needs to be repainted now. A fresh cooler white or creme, black/charcoal, or maybe one of the colors from the new meeting room mural would be cool. To be honest, I'm over warm-toned everything.
I loved the extra science details and that's so awesome you included information about the primer (once upon a time when reading about limewash, I only read the "to avoid" surfaces) 😊. This is now filed into the "I think I can....🤔" Haha.
I thought blue would go over so much better. Yknow Bridgerton vibes and all that. Maybe the color pop is a little intense but I thought the blue was cute. It's your wall though! Do what makes you happy! Update, it reminds me of bare concrete like before it's plastered or painted... Maybe it looks better in person? Overall it looks fine, and blends in well.
Researching clay plaster, lime mortar and finishes, natural building in general, and this is so cool to see TSGs doing limewash paint, dipping their toes into the world of natural materials!
I honestly don’t know how social media hasn’t driven us all insane. You’re literally never going to be able to please everyone. It’s your space, paint the wall whatever colour you want, you’re the ones who have to live with it all day every day.
Wow! you are so right, the blue color might have been a good color, but not on that wall, I love the lime wash and love that is has a texture that you can see, it really looks so beautiful and it does go with the kitchen cabinets so much better. I hope that there are not anymore negative comments on the blue color, because with paint if it is not liked you can paint over it so easily. Thanks for sharing this wonderful video, sending love and hugs, bye for now.
I’m in the minority I believe, I liked the blue. It maybe wasn’t the best choice based on your colour scheme everywhere else but, since I don’t love the mustard, terracotta tones (I’m a colour chicken 🤣) this choice is awesome! I love the texture it added.
I literally was hoping for them to make it a textured wall like a stone wall or something because of the door. Cottagecore vibes. So satisfied with this makeover. But I hope Kelsey doesn't feel bad. Don't stop, Kelsey!
I like how it looked before you added the grey at the end. Doesn't go with the color of the inside door and doesn't blend well with the colors in the next room. Sorry! It looked better as a warmer tone.
I really like the new color! I liked the blue too! the new color does fit better tho. I never heard of limewash before you guys so I am glad you guys did another video talking about it.
I LOVED the blue color, but I agree the contrast between it and the doors and the rest of the area was probably too much. Thank you for this informative video. I loved all the background info on the lime process.
I Was not against the blue colour...I was just wondering "why???" Didn't Kelsey paint her own front door green because she didn't like THAT specific shade of blue...?
I found this supper helpful. I was really interested in doing this in my house but found it hard to source the paint, or even find out much about it. Thanks for the inspiration.
I love how earthy it feels! The gray is great also. ALSO I want to say I really loved the blue shade, the only reason I think it didn’t work was it was such a bold color to have nothing it the space in its color family. Either way y’all always do a beautiful job. ❤️
It turned out great! I think this fits so much better in the studio! When you said it needs a porous surface to paint first, I thought, "Oh no, she's going to plaster that whole wall." Glad to see you just needed a certain primer! lmao You did a great job!
i really love how it turned out! and it seems like not something too difficult for the pretty finish you get. i think i might've liked the sample color a bit more but the grey also looks good
Oh picking paint colors is HARD. As I recently found out with my house reno. Sometimes you gotta try some options, go through mistakes before finding the one that works. This result is beautiful :D such a compliment to the door
IMO it's an improvement over the blue. However, it looked way better before the final coat. Now the warm cream of the door is fighting with the cool gray of the wall. Sometimes you just need to stop while you're ahead. That is a problem I have, so I can empathize.

I agree wirh you! The Blue had personality and swag. I am sooooooo bored with neutrals
LOVE the final result, the grey tone makes it look more cement-y and I’m obsessed
I love it! It doesnt compete with the beautiful door and the color is the perfect tone to make natural plants pop.
Yeah maybe that's what looks weird so the paint looks weird too
yea overall the mix of the different glass finishes, the arch vs square glass, and the warm yellow tone of the door/window frames makes it all look unfinished/uncohesive. i love that they're trying to hard tho.
@@rocioiribe5841 I know. I want it so bad to be good because I see the effort but it looks uncohesive still :(
been wanting to do limewash for ages indoors (I already do it on my chicken coops) but wasn't ready to figure it all out on my own. thank you for doing the work for us so we can renovate our living spaces in a non-toxic earth-friendly way!
Suddenly we all loved the blue! lol
I agree. It added personality
same! loved it. agree it didn't *totally* match the colors everywhere else, but it was a nice change and they could've worked with it
Me, too!! This one is just meh. Such a drastic change from wow!
Loved it too. Just needed a little finessing.
I LOVED the blue. I actually was really hoping/guessing she would pick blue!! 💙💙💙💙
I love this style and colour too!!🤍🤍🤍🤍
I know there are a lot of people saying that the warm tones of the door doesn’t go with the cool tones of the lime wash but I really like the contrast of the two together and think it looks nice 😊
thank you for this video, I live in the UK and proud to live in a house that was first built in 1400s which gets a yellow lime wash every few years, This video was so interesting so thank you.
I think you need to add trim to the windows painted the same colour as the door!
I really like the blue. It looked awesome. But limewash is always amazing
Maybe it reminds you of Turkey because of 'evil eye' charms!
I think it’s polarizing because it doesn’t mesh well with their established aesthetic.
The lime wash is a really neat technique. I agree with a lot of the commenters that the beige doors need to be painted black. I love the use of colour and really like when you two add colour to a space. 💖
for the record i loved the vibe of the blue 😌
My OG team! i love how you really took the time to explain the process.
I think it was the blue. And it wasn't a bad color of blue, just not the best fit for the whole space.
@@LarrietDarling too much of a contrast with the wood I think
@@LarrietDarling If she had painted the door and the window trims, frame out the windows, I think it could have been a great pop of color and still fit in…just needed a little more to complete ☺️
Agree completely. Just needed played with to perfect the look.
I loved the blue! It maybe didn't go with everything else, but I loved it. Becky, some people like cool colors!
The way becky do a presentation about the painting process is so freaking adorable 😭😭😭
I really loved the blue. The new color looks great as well. It was super fun to learn about chalk paint and the origin of "lime light".
So much better than the boring beige that I was expecting! Color is not the enemy!
I love how it turned out! It was nice before with the blue and this grayish is more minimal.
The way it looked at 14:35 looked awesome! 👌 wish it would've stayed that color and texture 😕
Looks mouldy
It was BEAUTIFUL! Becky did an AMAZING JOB! I like her AND HER ideas better anyway!
I loved the extra science details and that's so awesome you included information about the primer (once upon a time when reading about limewash, I only read the "to avoid" surfaces) 😊. This is now filed into the "I think I can....🤔" Haha.
The blue was one of the few wall colors y'all have used that I actually LIKED.
Loved the blue. So sorry to see it go!
It looks SO much better than the blue, like wow thankfully you redid it
I thought blue would go over so much better.
The gray is originally what I loved based off your mood board!!!! So happy with how this looks!!!!
I did love the blue wall and felt "Oh no!" when it was to be repainted beige/grey. But the end result looks good.
Wow! you are so right, the blue color might have been a good color, but not on that wall, I love the lime wash and love that is has a texture that you can see, it really looks so beautiful and it does go with the kitchen cabinets so much better.
Same girl! I think if they painted the doors it would have changed it all
I actually really liked the blue!! I don’t know if it worked with the space as a whole but it added a bold touch to the office!
I love the color blue but it looks so much better now. It looks more cohesive with the kitchen.
I LOVE IT!!
The door and windows could be black like the cabinets to make it chefs kiss 🤌
yall... the jewel toned blue was so much warmer and even fit better then this cool gray. imo
I found this supper helpful. I was really interested in doing this in my house but found it hard to source the paint, or even find out much about it. Thanks for the inspiration.
I feel like the only person who was happy to see a new colour. I'm sad it wont be blue.
I love the cream and grey together!! It’s a really gorgeous color combo!
