I JUST got your plants in the mail. They look really good and I hope they grow well in my betta's 10 gallon! A snail was packaged with one of them, it didn't smell bad so I'm not sure if it's dead. I already have food for it I haven't been able to use it yet.
Update: the snail is alive and well! I haven't had a snail friend in with a betta fish for over a year. 🐟🐌

I love Val. I have all three mentioned here in my 75 gallon. I have just a sand substrate and use root tabs. They just look so natural and my angelfish swim through them with ease.

Ronald Broussard do you just use sand from the pet store? I’m gonna be setting my 75 gal up soon and I’m trying to find a good sand for it

I collected a Vallisneria near my house at a local pond and it turns completely red under bright light. Is there anything like that already in the hobby?

I got some Ruby Red Val more than a year ago from you guys. I tried it with my goldfish and it was just the most expensive of salads, but no matter how much they munched, they never killed it. Now its thriving in my divided 10 gal betta tank and its significantly less abused lol. Val is really hardy when you dont used flourish.

Jungle looks great as it turns into curled ribbons across the surface of the tank. Italian Val is easiest plant to grow. If you have plenty of light its rampant and I wouldn't put it in the substrate..but in a pot buried in the substrate to keep it where you want it.
The contorted is a little tricky. Slower. Lots of light is all I can say. Not easy to get it dense and "show" like.

Great Vid. How tall does a corkscrew val grows! Using a substrate, do u recommend to add root tabs for this species of val?

I just got 8 jungle val and was dosing with fluval excel. Thanks for the tip, didn't know it would target it saved me like 30 bucks in plants. Needed some larger taller plants to break up fish territory. Great video!!

I dose Flourish Excel on my tank with Jungle Val, it did melt before when I was using full dose but when I rescaped, I just used 1/4 of the recommended dose and it did not melt at all. So I suggest just dose half the recommended dosage if you a re using Floyrish Excel

Got a val gigantea. It took root.. and a few babies popped up. Then it all got holes in the leaves amd died way back. Was told that it must have used up all the nutrients in the tank and thats why it died after initially growing. That sounds impossible ad i have a 36 with 4 inches of establised muck filled gravel .

Same here. I just acquired a jungle val today and then had my first dose of Excel right before I watched this video! I quickly had a 25% water change just to dilute its effect. Lolz.

Thoughts on one dose of Algaefix for newly planted Italian Val? Introduced the plants yesterday and dosed Algaefix today not thinking about it.

Got some Val at the LFS last week. Was priced at $4.99 each but the employee decided to give me two for the price of one. Not sure what type it is but I like it so far

I've heard from someone else who made a video that by trimming the tops of val with sharp scissors will stimulate new growth from the base & also promote propagation of runners but your saying not to cut the tops, don't know who to believe ?

How long does the Italian Vallisneria live? I have some in my tank, and a few in the background are slowly turning yellow from the base of the leaves and then finally melting off. They produce runners very fast. I also have the corkscrew Vallisneria, which I added last month, but they are growing very slowly. My tank has tropica soil that is going to be a year old soon. Is it time to add root tabs?

Is there anyway I can contact you? I have a 125 gallon Rainbowfish/Corydora tank and it’s been up for about two years and I just can’t figure out a good scape. Also, it seems like my plants grow, then die off. I could tell you my equipment and stocking and lighting schedule - I just really need some help! Thank you very much!
